I got the cider on draft (forget the name but it was 6.7%) and my boyfriend got a beer (also don't remember the name). This place has a really great vibe and vast adult drink selection, but the service and food need to step up. Our waitress never handed us menus and continually ignored us throughout our meal. We got this chicken and cream soup from their "pop up" and the pepperoni pizza. The soup tasted like it came out of a Campbell's can and the pizza was extremely greasy. So, if you plan on just getting drinks from the bar, you're good to go here. read more

Very quaint little spot love the huge window that faces the street. Definitely somewhere I'd travel more too in the summer time or spring. This is a good place with great sausage and cheese, however some of the beer portions are short, I ordered a beer and the female bartender tells me it comes in a 10 oz glass because they're "trying to keep cost down"... I don't get it either, though the beer still sells for regular price. The place has a great atmosphere and some of the chairs came from quiznos, Don't ask me about that one. In conclusion this is a nice place, with a nice atmosphere, and good food it's worth a shot. read more

I'm almost hesitant to even rate this place, because I don't want it to get crowded. Hands down you will not find a better beer selection in RVA. They also have pretty good food (with vegetarian options!!!) And a really lovely atmosphere. I LOVE coming here when the windows are open in the summer. The Cask is truly a hidden gem of Richmond. The beer selection is on point and always goes so well with the menu. The menu is small, but so well done. We always get a cheese and sausage board when going, selecting a variety of succulent craft sausages and rich, creamy cheeses. I loved the cask, but horrified by my recent visit. I had a front row seat to the open kitchen. As tickets came in the cook literally would roll his eyes that he had to get up off his seat on the steps and put down his phone and do his job. The worst is that he didn't wash his hands or put on gloves between handling his phone, touching the railings that lead up the stairs and outside and running his hands through his hair, before touching the food. All of those germs went straight into the bread, cheese, and other food he was preparing. Norovirus and other illnesses transmitted via the oral route are no joke and I wouldnt be surprised if somebody gets sick from the unsanitary conditions of his cook/kitchen. I wanted to drink liquor. I was greeted by a friendly bartender that pointed me to a beer that was exactly what I wanted, but no liquor. No, I didn't want "shots", just a couple of upper end Martinis. Mildly disappointed, but read on... I'm an all-around alcoholic, so when there's only beer and wine available, I'm ok stumbling down the available path. The beer selection is across the board, and a crowd pleaser in general if you aren't some douche wanting a frat-boy light beer. I was greeted with a black lager, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout (if you don't like this, I hate you and will kick you in the balls), and a delightful Czech Pilsner that had a very cool tap. A beer geek would be thrilled with the taps here. If they felt like getting gnarly, there is also a good selection of bottled beers. A pair of side-by side garages turned into a beer joint, with a small food selection quickly heated up with a friendly crowd and a very attentive bartender (who remembered my name). As the windows steamed up, this little joint on the outskirts of Robinson St. turned into a very cozy establishment. Wish I could be there all night, but alas, I'm semi-adult and have stuff to tend to. You know, responsibilities and the like. Regardless, I look forward to next time. Interesting cafe/bar, with a limited menu and variety of drinks. The menu was heavy on appetizers and German foods, something different for a quick bite or a meal to go well with a beer. Has garage door type windows that can go up in nice weather, giving dinners exposure to the outdoors - although the view could be better with a construction project for a large building or something right across the street. Service was friendly and helpful, and they have various specials for the day. I had a daily special - Cuban sausage special with sauerkraut, all good. Parking on a weekend afternoon was surprisingly easy, especially compared with Cary Street, a short distance away. Easy distance from Maymont Park, if you are relaxing after some sightseeing. A few spaces behind the building and some street parking, was all free when I was there. Would say try it, why not? read more

I can't wait to enjoy this spot during the Spring and Summer. We got a little taste of the open air atmosphere when The Cask Cafe first opened up in the Fall and really enjoyed checking out the art displayed across the street at the old GRTC bus depot while throwing back some tasty beers. The beer selection is always good and I hear the wine is great too but haven't had any interest myself. The sausage selection is great, man I love the delicious kraut, German/ Czech potato salad and cheese here. Locally sourced products and great service. A+ guys. read more

Nice job. We came in with kinda low expectations (kinda out of the way, even tho reviews are great) and you all nailed it. Great beers, cool industrial ambiance, tremendously knowledgeable staff, fabulous cheeses & sausage plates. Love the doors up, feels outside. That whole end of Robinson St will do nothing but get better. Suggestions- convert some parking to add patio tables, put up a flatscreen or two & some cool art and have a few more 'regular' local beers on tap & i'll be a believer. Great, cozy environment slightly off the beaten path to enjoy one of the many carefully selected craft beers on tap as well as their savory locally sourced sausages and international cheese boards. Friendly staff and it's especially nice when the weather's pleasant as they can open an entire wall with their large garage style windows... it makes for a patio experience without having to worry about possible rain falling on your head. The space isn't huge, so it's comfortable and busy all at the same time. Beer selection was great, had several beers that I wanted to try so that was excellent. Interesting little place off one far end of Cary Street, but potentially worth the walk if you've been shopping down that way. We were excited for the cheese and sausage, though it turned out to not be charcuterie, but instead warmed sausages like the fantastic soft German-style bratwurst we got on our plate. Atmosphere-wise it's not really a bar and not really a cafe, and I think over time it'll evolve. Beer selection was well picked, both tap and bottle, though being from out of town I would have loved to see more local selections. My favorite beer joint in the fan. Great draft and bottle selection. Cozy atmosphere. It's in an unexpecting part of town, which is nice because it usually keeps the uneducated beer drinkers away. Although the small cafe can become busy, I never feel rushed to give up my table from the wait staff. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will not be returning. My friend and I weren't greeted and had to wait several minutes just to be seated. We ordered a couple sandwiches (paninis) and they were just ok. They come with these little pickles :( and we were not told of any options although they have chips in the next room (for purchase). Waiter comes over doesn't really ask us how our meal is although you can tell both of our plates are picked over. I got a beer, that he recommended (Stone something) and did not like it. I informed the waiter of my dissatisfaction and was not offered anything else. Not "oh I'm sorry" or " can I offer you something else". He just stared at me. Literally!
