I split the Proscuitto and Arugula Flatbread and wow- I was so inspired that I made this at home too *chef's kiss* Continuing on my gluttonous journey, I ordered a Chardonnay with my San Carlos Burger. Can't quite remember the name of the wine but I remembered it was very crisp and more on the dry side. Although I should've paired my burger with a beer, sometimes ya got to get a little fannccyyy. The San Carlos Burger was HUGE. Maybe its because my appetite shrunk, but this burger was so filling and there was a huge mound of fries (or you can opt for a salad). If you're a fan of beef and avocados- this is by far the best burger to get here. The servers here are super friendly and ensure to check in on your party. Tables are adequately spaced out and the eating area is enclosed so you have some barrier and privacy from others. Would definitely recommend this spot! read more

Came in on a Saturday between 3-4 and the place only had a few table of diners. Yet, service was pretty slow and very subpar. Ordered a red and white wine tasting, both flights were decent enough. Also ordered a cheese platter which was actually pretty good. Reason for 1 star is several days after when checking my bank statement they overcharged my card with more tip then I actually left. I emailed Cask with pictures of my customer copy of credit slip and bank statement line showing overcharge. Absolutely no response after emailing and calling several times. read more

Having reservations across the street and arriving early for my birthday dinner across the street, we decided to grab a quick glass of wine. Although not dining here, The Cask menu feature American and California cuisine that is potentially complimented by their extensive wine selection. We simply had a bottle of wine. As we walked in, there was some confusion and not so friendly opening remarks. Briefly later, we remedied the situation and hopefully it was simple miscommunication. It was five of us and we sat at the bar. The bartender was more cordial and served us immediately. We ordered the Heinrich Vollmer Riesling from the Pfalz region of Germany. This is an excellent wine if you prefer a sweeter Riesling. The ambiance here is very relaxed and not at all snobbish. I really love the outside seating area, but tonight was just a tad chilly to thoroughly enjoy it. If you love wine and drink it frequently, especially out and about, you will be thrilled to know that they offer wine memberships. We brought our daughter and her husband out to enjoy a little fresh air after my daughter had 33 days in the hospital. The hospitality was amazing! The owner was VERY accommodating and made sure we were comfortable while waiting for a table. I noticed he was spending direct attention at every table! It is very apparent he wants his patrons to have a nice dining experience. The menu had many options and the wine list is extensive. Came here during the San Carlos Art & Wine Festival. We were seated right away since it wasn't too busy. Cool that they let us bring in our champagne from the Art & Wine Festival into the bar. Food: Cheese plate (3 cheeses) with bread. You get to choose your cheeses. The aged cheddar and brie was good. I forgot what the other cheese was that was similar to blue cheese or cambozola since I've been drinking champagne all afternoon. Seafood pasta- they split the dish into 2 plates evenly, which was nice. Drink: A bottle of Piper Sonoma Sparkling wine for $35-40? Yummy champagne. Service was fast and friendly. Nice place. This is a great spot on Laurel, especially because it's usually not crowded. I came here twice in one weekend, once for dessert (cheesecake is huge, good deal!) and then for brunch on Easter. We had a reservation elsewhere for brunch, but weren't told we'd have a $40 prix fix menu due to Easter. You must come here! We had the best Thanksgiving ever at Cask! Normally we spend the holiday with family and friends, but this year my husband and I were on our own. We decided to give ourselves a break from preparing a big dinner for only the two of us. My husband decided we should go to San Carlos because we love the small town feeling and the great restaurants. Turns out most places were closed for the day (who knew? Lol me), but Cask was open. They sat us right away which amazed me. Everybody was so welcoming and kind. Thank you to Paul for making us feel at home. The owner, Kamal, definitely cares about his community! We were completely blown away to learn (after we ordered 2 additional meals to go) that the owner was feeding people for free! Obviously everyone loves a free meal but seeing how this place supported their community was amazing! We saw it in action, this is a place we're everyone knows your name. And the meal was delicious! I like the burgers and lamb burgers at this place. They are really tasty. However sometimes they have gluten-free bread for the burgers and sometimes they do not. They are inconsistent with the gluten-free bread but they do offer lettuce wrap. I visited another time and had their house salad with skirt steak which is delicious! read more

So happy to share this very unfortunate situation. Last night we decided to order food for a family of 6. My son over ordered as usual. When we got the food from Door Dash we were in shock, the food was not at all how we have come to LOVE Casks food. I explained everything in detail over the phone to the manager and with out hesitation he offered to give me a Gift Certificate above and beyond my total. He even offer to remake order as well. The meat was less than a quarter pound, extremely dry, and tasted like it came off a low budget gut truck...Seriously! The Au jus had zero taste which at least would have disguised the poor taste of the beef. You seriously should not be serving this bad a dish to your customers. My very first experience with The Cask was on Thanksgiving many years ago. My guy was sick and couldn't attend our traditional brunch at the Palace in SF. He asked me to bring him something on the way home. The only thing open in San Carlos was The Cask. I was boggled when they wouldn't take any money for the lovely plate of turkey and all the trimmings. Turns out the doors are open that day to feed everyone - their gift to the community. Outside by the windows were bags of vegetables for anyone to take. I cried all the way home. What an amazing thing to do. But I don't go there just because they're kind. The food is fantastic - my favorites are the salads and the wonderful salmon on focaccia. My fiance gobbles down the sliders. When we're with friends for dinner there, we order much more extravagantly, and have never - never! - had anything sub-par. And this is the kind of staff that recognizes you when you walk in the door. Kind, fast, sweet. This is clearly not just a job for them. When the pandemic hit, we did our best to support many of our San Carlos restaurants. We'd be sad to lose any of them. But The Cask got most of our business by far. Ok, I was not a huge fan of this particular dish, I found the sauce too heavy, the shrimp taste was totally covered and overwhelmed by some specific spice in the sauce that I wasn't able to identify. Perfectly executed dish, right amount of saltiness and sweetness, perfect sticky textured, great smoked after taste. 5 stars and even more if possible! - Humus with Pita, kalamata olive tapenade, extra virgin olive oil for $ 9, that was very good too! delicate but flavorful, another well deserved 5 stars. As a desserts we shared :New York Cheesecake, Chocolate Lava Cake,Creme Brulee for $10 each, all very good, my personal preference goes to the creme brulee, rich and creamy. SERVICE 4 stars it could have been 5, since our waiter was very professional, experienced, polite, helpful and competent. Unfortunately, after only 1h and half they needed the table (but nobody told it when we were seated) so they started to rush us, brought the check to the the table even if we didn't ask for it, we still had wine in our glasses and we were still eating the desserts. I found it very odd, considering that it's not a fast food, you expect that for a party of 4 at least 2h are considered standard. Plus, we spent a lot of money between food and wine. We were excited to come across this wine bar as it had great reviews. However, when we came in (exactly an hour before closing, just for a drink) the bartender looked at her watch disapprovingly before we had a seat. When the two of us sat down for whatever reason she only gave us one glass of water to share?? We asked her for a second glass of water and next thing you know we look up and our 1 glass of water is gone! Our glasses of wine were plopped down with little enthusiasm and we were never checked up on again. Extremely Disappointing. Update: while we still had a glass and a half of wine left they plopped the bill down and walked a way.. not a word. As we were still enjoying our last glass of wine they came back up, not to check on us, but to ask if they could take the bill from us that we hadn't yet signed. Went to Cask last night to celebrate my bday! Everything was perfect, nice table by the outside heater, the Caesar salad was good and the romaine was very crispy, the fish tacos were excellent with just the right amount of spices, the Grilled octopus was cooked to perfection, served with a tasty bell pepper purée, watercress, baby corn and tomatoes. They have a 3 course lunch special during the week for $20 a person. It includes a salad or soup, entree and dessert. They also give you a discount on two glasses of wine. I've been going to The Cask a long time but with the steep increase in prices, especially when it comes to the salmon dish, I have been very disappointed. I know covid took a hit and inflation set in but with the salmon in particular, not only did the price go up exponentially but the portion went down by about 30%. That's a double whammy to increase price 30% and reduce portion by same. This place is thriving with the hugely extended outdoor seating. There's no reason to double the hit. The San Carlos burger has also been one of my favorites and still large portion but up 30% from a few years ago. The service is usually quite good, most entrees are quite good. Portions on some items has decreased while prices have increased 30%. Doesn't seem right . Bring back larger portions of salmon and spinach. It actually looks measly. read more

Adorable wine bar with generous pours! I got their bubbly tasting flight, and I wound up with three full size flutes of quite satisfactory champagne. Came in for a drink and a small bite after shopping the boutiques. The place only had a couple people in it but it's a Monday around 11ish so it is understandable. They have a great deal for lunch. 3 courses for $15. Soup or Salad, half portion of select entrees and gelato. We decided on Kobe beef sliders. Salads was meh. Dressing was so faint but it had candied walnuts and dried cranberries which saved it from having no taste at all. The Kobe sliders were cooked well but under seasoned. Where is the secret sauce you speak of and in an otherwise empty place no server to flag down immediately, ketchup it is! Fries are ok, nothing special, just your run of the mill frozen shoestrings. The sangria is ok but probably on its last run as you can start to taste the slight bitterness of fermenting fruit. Finally, we chose the salted caramel gelato for the final course. They literally sprinkled table salt over the top of caramel gelato (A LOT of It), interesting technique choice. After the first bite, I was done. I further inspected and salt is all over the plate and surface of the gelato. It was just too much. Service was functional not exceptional. I think when it's really slow sometimes servers forget to change their pace and provide the same energy as if it were a busy. So there is great potential here and probably an off day.
