Read the reviews and was excited to try. We ordered the combo specials. French toast special and the rib eye special. The price is reasonable. But I guess you get what you pay for. Service was polite and friendly and greeted with mostly smiles. Short review: if you're looking for something to blow you away, this isn't the place. It'll get the job done for a meal and clean shelter. But this is only limited to the breakfast combo items and coffee. Longer review if you care to know: Overall, our very straight forward breakfasts did not hit the spot for us- taste and quality wise. The coffee was not strong and in my option, watered down. The hashbrown barely had any crisp, and again.. LOOKED like browned hashbrown but tastes like mash potatoes. Ribeye was mushy in the parts where it was rare and tolerable? in places it was medium rare (ordered it to be med rare). I did not want to go through the trouble of sending the dish back so I sucked it up and ate as much as I could. My dumbass went back for seconds in coffee hoping it would have gotten stronger; it didn't. There were free daily newspapers/ posts. News was broadcasting from the tv in the background. I enjoyed those aspects of the establishment. Quirky fruit/ veggie art pieces that hung around the walls. First I thought they were cute then as my meal went south, they started to feel disturbing to me. There were a handful of locals/ regulars that seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was not a horrendous experience given that the staff is friendly and the place is clean and organized, but definitely not an enjoyable one for my tastebuds. Will only go back if there's a zombie apocalypse or if I'm in a dire need of a cheaper meal and I'm somehow in the San Carlos downtown area. read more

A no frills place to come to for a hot meal to either start your day or come in for a mid day break. We came here for breakfast - you order at the counter and they give you a number tent. You go and choose the table of your choice and your food will be brought out to you. We had ordered a coffee with our meal and didn't realize we were supposed to grab the mug off the counter ourselves and fill up until the server told us. The prices here are very reasonable considering inflation nowadays. We can get a full omelette with hash browns and toast for only $12.99 which is pretty much unheard of nowadays. You get a good portion of food that will fill you up without causing you to overeat either. Food is basic quality but it gets the job done. read more

I've been coming here occasionally for the last several years when I'm in the area. The daily specials are a good value. You get a full meal with entree, soup or salad and a drink for under $20 but you get what you pay for. It's nothing spectacular to write home about. In the past I had their fried fish, steak, breakfast and it's just meh. Today's special was fried cod or roast turkey. Getting fish dishes from a diner is always a mistake so I got the "roast turkey". I was appalled when the "turkey" was a thinly sliced processed deli meat turkey that was browned on the flat top similar to a Safeway Buddig brand lunchmeat. They could had at least gone with an Oscar Meyer Carving Board thick sliced lunch meat. I asked the cashier and she said they only have real turkey at Thanksgiving. This was a total disappointment! They really need to remove this item or stop calling it "Roast Turkey!" It's NOT! I won't be coming back for a while. read more

Initial counter experience leaves a Lot to be desired. I adore pastitsio. That is what brought me here - seeing it on the menu was exciting so I came right here and in spite of the cost I was willing to give it a try. The best part of the meal was the acceptable iceberg salad. The zucchini was nicely roasted and the bland potatoes were also nicely cooked. Everything else? Hard pass. Seriously. The supposed-to-be creamy and unctuous pasta dish was. Quite literally. Burnt. What an utter disappointment. Tatziki was plain. Little to speak of but strained yogurt. Which was fine. Hummus was grainy and yet somehow flavorless. Pita was toasted but hard. Gentleman who brought me my food was nice. He smiled and was courteous. Then again. If he was responsible for serving actual burnt inedible garbage then that gives me pause as well. The place is clean and kept up with. The menu is almost formidable in length but makes some level of sense. Telling the folks who told me about this place to avoid this dish. We had talked about it and I was raving about it generally and noted I've been trying to find a local place that served it. I will keep looking. If I were to return. I would try a sandwich. I thought I was asking to many questions but then we equally asked things. it's like I was a newbie because it's been awhile but holy moly that menu is like a Disneyland of food. The best spot on Laurel Street, hard stop. Seriously though; if you've got a need to "be seen", you can have your stroll down the block and then get yourself a great meal (all day long I might add) at this joint! Broad menu; heck yes! this has become one of my go to places for brunch with my peninsula friends! we stumbled upon it randomly one day, and were impressed by the selection and variety of options on the menu...in addition to breakfast served all day, they have all the usual american comfort food favourites like burgers and sandwiches, as well as a selection of greek favourites. on our first visit, my friends noted how reasonably priced everything was, and sizeable portions! the food was very tasty as well...something you don't often find in the bay area...usually, we see overpriced items with a small serving size and mediocre taste. i ordered the veggie omelet with peppers, onion, tomato, mushrooms, avocado and jack cheese. as usual, i subbed for egg whites, and chose the fruit cup and whole wheat toast for my sides. the meal was very filling and i couldn't even finish everything so i had to take part of it home! the bill? $16.74 including tax + tip! i'd normally pay $20-25 everywhere else in the bay area for a similar meal! on my most recent visit, i brought my friend who is actually from greece (now living here) and she commented that the vegetarian pita wrap was very good. i'll definitely be trying that on my next visit! there is indoor and outdoor seating (covered with a canopy). restrooms are in the rear. plenty of street parking just outside or anywhere in downtown san carlos, be mindful of the 2 hr limit monday-saturday. read more

It's fairly well-priced, too, so it's great for a cheap meal on Laurel St. They have ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, and they're open fairly late, both of which make it a convenient option at pretty much any time. The vibe and atmosphere really harken back to the 80s and 90s, like the kind of diners you'd see in a John Hughes movie, and it seems like most of the decor and aesthetics are original. Even so, they're kept up pretty well, so it avoids the kind of dated dinginess that a lot of other places with old-school designs can have. I'm not as big a fan of their breakfast food. Their options are pretty basic in ways that are easily reproducible at home, not exceptional in the ways other breakfast places can be. read more

It had been so long and I thought what a fun and nostalgic thing to do! Let me just say...nostalgia was the perfect word. This place has not changed one bit. The menu board is the same. Oh heck yes!! Had never been here before, kinda figured it was dumpy (no idea why?) but wanted a burger and my friend suggested Broiler. I am an old soul and tend to gravitate to and enjoy older-style things/music/people (sup my silver foxes)/food/decor. When I walked in it reminded me of one of my fave childhood chicken pot pie places in Fresno so immediately I felt comfortable and excited. Soup is 50% of my diet (veggies? meat? somewhat healthy? not too expensive? can fill my belly with it? checky check check) and I saw they had two soups on the menu - an Italian Tuscan tortellini and 20-bean w/beef. Ordered a cup of each *and* a mushroom burger with added Swiss since that was initially what I was craving, the reason why we came here. Everything was very good, especially the 20-bean soup!! I was expecting a chili but it wasn't, wish I had only ordered the bowl of that. Tortellini was fine but had a spicy kick to it and I'm a wimp. Thrilled to find a new not-overrated-$20-Town-burger and a new soup place =) Been sad since Bianchinis added giant terrible textured balls to their meatball soup and is charging like $9 for their smallest cup so this truly couldn't come at a more perfect time especially with the cooler fall weather coming up! read more

1-star for the food, -10 stars for customer service! I ordered a breakfast special that includes 1 egg, 1 pancake, and 1 bacon. It was great until I encountered a dime-sized eggshell in my pancake in one of the the last bites of my meal! I went up to the counter to show them and let them know. The owner (I'm guessing by his presumptuous and less than friendly attitude) stepped in and said that they can make me another pancake. I told him that I didn't want another pancake, I wanted my money back. He started to get upset and telling me that he could make me another pancake instead -- if I wanted 2 pancakes, I would've ordered 2 pancakes! I told him that I didn't want another pancake because I'm full, I just thought it was disgusting that there was an eggshell in my pancake! It was in the last few bites of my pancake, so the chances of me even finding it were low but thankfully I did. He fianlly said, "I'll give you a refund because that's what you want, whatever!" This place is not hard to miss on the corner. Inside there is comfortable , no-frills seating and a very large menu with breakfast,barbecue, sandwiches, Greek and more. I didn't know if they had non-breakfast items before 11:00, but that is when the lunch specials were available. I tried a blueberry waffle. it did not come as a combo, but since it was more expensive than many of the burgers, I thought it might be huge, so I didn't order any side dishes. The waffle was not too big but was very good and had lots of blueberries in it. It was perfectly golden and slightly crispy as well. read more
