Have eaten here many times and never a bad meal. Bowl of fish chowder tops my favorites. Order this. You won't be sorry. Better than the clam chowder and is a meal in itself. Even the complimentary bread is good. Baked haddock, haddock Au Gratin, fish and chips, fried clams and lobster pie are all great as well. Other menu options look great too, but I usually stick to these core seafood dishes. I can't give an accurate opinion on the steak, pork chops or some of the other Italian dishes, but they always look good on their way to other tables. They advertise daily specials on their Facebook page. Check them out. You can't complain about the portions or prices. A great value on top of the great food. Service always very fast particularly convenient for lunch. This is not fine dining, however. Very casual and more like a diner than a typical seafood restaurant. This is a place to get your feed on, not for the ambiance. If you know that ahead of time, you won't be disappointed. read more

Don't miss the fish chowder. Light broth and flavorful and loaded with fresh fish. I only found two little chunks of potato. I ordered a cup and what came was as big as what many places would serve as a bowl. Fried clams were also good, fresh, and not greasy. The mussels and calamari marinara thing looked amazing. I had the baked haddock and it was also light and delicious. The only thing I'd skip is the fries. Pretty mundane, but that's almost a good thing as I was stuffed about 1/3 of the way through my haddock and eating potatoes would be a waste with all this great seafood. read more

So disappointed. This was our first time in Gloucester after living in MA for almost 10 years. We were here celebrating a special occasion and spending the night in town. We looked up the Causeway and saw that it had incredible reviews. When we walked in there were many tables open. We were seated and received a phone call which resulted in us ultimately having to request our meals to go. We were just starting to eat the bread and had requested drinks we were waiting on. The waitress heard we needed to take our meals to go and basically kicked us out of our seats. We were told to get up and go pay at the register and wait at the counter. We were hoping given to go cups for Our drinks and literally ushered to the cash register. We then waited, standing for 10 minutes for our order. This was so rude. Our meals came to over $80. I am disabled and have a hard time standing for some time. I'd this typical!?? We are so disappointed!! read more

Came here 15 years ago & it's still as good today. That being staff, selection, and FOOD! I had the mussels & if the bowl was a little smaller, it was worth coming from the West Coast to the East Coast to visit again. First night in Gloucester and I found this restaurant recommended on Yelp so our party of 10 decided to give it a try. So very very glad we did. We had to wait for about 30 minutes before our group could be seated which was more than reasonable given the group size and how busy they were. Most ordered the haddock which was a huge portion covering most of a standard dinner plate. My wife ordered the fried shrimp and my mother in law ordered the baked salmon. I went with the seafood marinara. Out came a platter with 20 mussels, tons of calamari, and at least a dozen scallops and shrimp covered in the best marinara I have EVER tasted (sorry grandma) on a bed of perfectly cooked linguine. Every protein was expertly prepared to be melt in your mouth tender. We all took home leftovers. Trust me, don't think, just go. You can thank me later. read more

We came here today on motorcycle with three other motorcycles. There was absolutely no parking for any of us. There is a huge parking lot for White Farms Ice cream, which to me makes no sense. We nearly got hit from cars pulling into the parking lot as we were trying to pull out. The restaurant and ice cream place are connected by the building and appears to share the same parking lot in front. There was so much traffic in a congested area that we left. But because there was no parking primarily. Wished we could have stayed. Perhaps this restaurant can make an arrangement with the ice cream business to open parking spaces. They lost business today. Instead, we drove to a favorite of ours and spent over $150 for the group. That could have been business here. read more

The garlic and white wine mussels stole the show! We ordered way too much food as they have large portions. They have outside seating, hand sanitizers, sprays and plenty of paper towels to clean the tables. Service was great and I couldn't have asked for a better first experience of eating out since this whole pandemic happened. We love the Causeway. They have , by far, the best fried scallops and fish chowder on the North Shore. The fish chowder is loaded with haddock, unlike some places that provide more liquid than fish in their chowder. Additionally, the price of their chowder is unbelievable given how much haddock they put in the chowder. The fried scallops are wonderful. When our kids visit from out of state, they insist on a visit to the Causeway for the fried scallops. The scallops are always perfectly cooked along with a large serving of French fries. Being a BYOB establishment only adds a positive to the experience. read more

I had Shrimp Scampi! OMG so good! the shrimp was perfect and the noodles were just right. I normally go with the fisherman's platter but I felt daring this time and need to venture away from my norms and try something new. Every-time I go here the food is the best. I hardly notice the server and there service but its always been good and we've always been taken care of. I'm also too busy looking at everyone elses plate to figure out what Im going to eat to notice the server. This place is small and always busy. This place fills up fast. So glad we were able to get a table! The food tasted delicious, was reasonably priced and the portion sizes were VERY generous. They do not skimp on the meat either. My husband ordered the Seafood Marinara (shrimp, scallops, calamari and clams over linguine in a delicious Marinara sauce). I ordered the shrimp scampi. Everything tasted fresh, authentic and home made. Great choice for dinner, hands down. If we were locals you would catch us here regularly. read more

If you are gluten free BEWARE!! Asked for gluten free fisherman platter and was sick in less than a hour! I was glutened! The owner was not helpful at all..he said" well it looks like you need to go to the hospital". This has always been my favorite spot in Gloucester but will think twice next time. I'm really upset by the owners lack of empathy. I was in a lot of pain and he just didn't care. read more

It's pretty much the ONLY place I will eat seafood, and I live in Florida. Yes, I have been flying 1400 miles just to eat here. So that should pretty much tell you all that you need to know about this place. And all that you need to know about seafood joints anywhere else. MUST ORDER: The Peters Platter and the Fish Chowder. I always get the same thing. But I imagine that everything they serve is top-notch. I hope I am dead before this place ever goes out of business. Great seafood. Quality & quantity. Busy place even at 5pm. We had to wait over 30 minutes for a table. No reservations. Locals line up well before 5. Seem to be very popular with the seniors. Older decor from the 90S. Drop acoustic white ceiling. Simple chairs & tables on tile floors. Large bay windows gives it a feel of a 60s dinner. Decent size, could hold about 40 people at a time with a bar that could hold 10 more. My father is 85 and has a hard time standing for any length of time. There is no waiting area inside. Outside there is only a small wooden bench that can only hold 4 people at a time. Luckily we found seat for him. For appetizer we had the mussels in garlic wine sauce. It came in a 1 gallon bowl filled to the brim with big fresh succulent mussels. I had a ceasar salad that was perfectly made. Dressing that was not too creamy or tangy. Just the right amount over crispy romaine. Enough for 2 people. I had the baked stuffed lobster. Must have been a 2 pounder stuffed with scallops, shrimp under some deliciously buttery, crunchy bread crumbs. My wife had the lobster casserole. Large chunks of lobsters baked in the same buttery, crunchy bread crumbs. More than enough for her with a nice portion left for metoo. My sister had the baked haddock. It was very tender inside with a crunchy layer of breading. My father & mother had the seafood diavolo. IT WAS GYNORMOUS. could have fed 4 people. Lots of scallops, shrimp & mussels over pasta in a mild tasty marinara sauce. They manage to make a small dent before giving up & calling for a doggy bag. Great tasting foods. Large portions. To say that the service was rude wouldn't be enough. To say the food was cold after waiting 45 minutes for a cup of clam chowder (which had very few pieces of clam in it) and I had to ask for dressing for my salad for which I was told to "wait a minute " which turned into 10 minutes. I have been coming to this restaurant for years because of the fresh seafood. But, after being yelled at to "hold on" when I asked for utensils.. this experience has turned me off completely from every coming back. The other people in my party got their food 15 minutes before mine came out and I waited and waited for a cup of chowder and a salad,(not a difficult order).
