I have been waiting a year to try this place! I have heard nothing but great reviews, but unfortunately we never were given the opportunity to order. We were not greeted, just seated. The hostess had a MAJOR attitude and that was putting it nicely. We were served water but after ten + minutes of idling waiting to order we decided to leave. Rude staff, no eye contact and the girls stood staring at us talking the entire time. We will not be coming back. read more

We arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait some time to be seated. We chose a bottle of wine from the menu but was told it wasn't available. We asked about a Malbec that was available by the glass and asked for the bottle price but they said no discount. We ordered a scallop appetizer which was good but there were only three of them. I called around 7pm to put in a pickup order. During COVID times, I don't go out to eat. They told me they do not accept pick up orders until 8pm. I promptly called back at 8pm and was then told they were too busy for my order. It's nice to see The Cellar does not care about their community in pandemic times and prioritizes customers who dine in. read more

I sat at the bar, was ignored for 10 minutes while one employee chatted with the woman next to me and another put away glasses and napkins behind the bar. I left. I'm not sure they noticed. There are other places in Owego to eat. Can't imagine I'll be back. read more

The food was fantastic , the Beef Wellington was delicious.. my husband had a burger it was juice and full of flavor. The waitress was excellent and even sang me happy birthday.. the only down fall was the hostess.. a blond haired girl with a terrible attitude. We had never been to the Cellar but the first few minutes were very uncomfortable.. she asked if we had a reservation.. we had not .. then proceeded in rudely grabbing menus and placing us in .. kinda like the section for bad customers .. I really wanted a better more private seat .. but then she again rudely gave us water and our small plates with wrapped silverware.. just attitude all over her . I said thank you for my water and did just went off . my husband and I looked at each other like maybe we should leave .. very unwelcoming.. but the waitress came and she was wonderful.. we didn't get a refill from water from this blond either.. but the food was fantastic and that made Us give a 4 star over a five star . Came from Binghamton to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Nursing school on the Friday before Mother's day. We studied the menu online and so looked looked forward to the ribs, caesar salad, rib-eye steak we'd likely order. We had 7 pm reservations,which I amended a few times, so I asked for Sandy when we arrived. She barely looked up at me to acknowledge our connection. When we were seated, our server gave us all " weekend menus." (I would later come to find out that these were Mother's day specials with a limited menu. 5 starters and 8 entrees were the offering). The food was overpriced. It was meh, at best. The river views seen on their website page, were completely blocked by a wall. Our server told my daughter she could go outside for a photo, but that's as far as we would get to a view. They employees did not make us feel welcome. I felt very much like an " other." The festive evening we had been looking forward to, was such a disappointment. Our bill came to $300. They added a credit card surcharge of $6.95. I hope you get the picture . . . . read more

We went for Mother's Day brunch - what a disaster! We had reservations, but were seated 15 minutes late. Our waiter was nice enough, and he brought us drinks promptly. That was about the end of our good time. We waited for 55 (no, I'm not exaggerating) minutes for our food to arrive. During that time, our waiter became more and more scarce. When he finally brought our food, he acted like nothing was unusual. The food was just fine, actually - but it was just breakfast food. A diner cook could have made our entrees in their entirety in six minutes. Admittedly, the diner wouldn't have had the ambiance that the Cellar has - but then again, we wouldn't have had to look at for long. I would have expected the owner to stop over and apologize, or for us to get a break on our bill for such terrible service - but we got none of that. This rating is based on previous visits. Normally the food here is excellent. Always freshly prepared with fine ingredients. This time I ordered the duck and I was disappointed. The duck was brought to me undercooked. After sending it back to be cooked more it was very good. The staff is always friendly and efficient. read more

I went to the Cellar for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The crowd was about half old timers and half business people on their lunch break. The dining room was indeed nice. My wife and I got salads and sandwiches. The menu had a nice range of selections, from the more rustic, meaty dishes, to something a little more refined. They use quality ingredients and get the food out pretty quickly. My sandwich (a rather unadventuresome - by my choice - combination of unhealthy meat, cheese, and barbecue sauce was just perfect. I'd love to check out the place for dinner. I'd imagine they have a pretty good wine list. read more

mmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! Went here for lunch not expecting too much based on the previous reviews. But I was thrilled with my $8 sandwich (and sad to see it go!). I got the chicken and pesto sandwich. The chicken was very tender, topped with spinach, tomato, and a fantastic pesto. We went as a party of 8 and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. Everyone's plates were totally cleaned. My second choice would have been the first item on the menu -- a sandwich with chicken, granny smith apples, sharp cheddar cheese, and an apricot sauce, sounded interesting -maybe next time. Dinner is much pricier (I've never gone here for dinner before). I would save your cash and go for lunch! read more

We just moved to Owego and The Cellar was highly recommended so we went for dinner. Everything was wonderful from the wine to our steaks. The waitress, I said her name is Sandy but my husband says it's Stacey lol so whatever her name is she was great. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and even though she was busy she took time with us and was attentive through our meal. We definitely will be back. read more

This was amazing. I'm actually angry at myself for not trying this place a long time ago knowing now what I've missed out on all these years. The lobster Thermidor...though expensive....is worth every, single, red cent. It's quite possibly the most amazing thing I have even eaten. And my fiancée's beef Wellington literally melted on the plate it was so tender. I had the cranberry and walnut salad for an appetizer and it was also amazing. The atmosphere was good. Our waiter Jake was very attentive and polite. The steaks were really good. We thought the sides were mediocre. The steak sides were potato croquettes and broccoli soufflé. I would never pair a deep fried potato thing with a good steak. I didn't like the broccoli side but my friends did. Personal taste I guess. I met my sister for dinner at the Cellar having had two pretty good experiences there in the past. This time I was quite disappointed. Maybe it was because we dined on the eve of the annual Strawberry Festival and on the night there was a "block party" event going on right outside. The service was pretty terrible for a so-called "fine dining" establishment. It took about 10 minutes for our server to greet us after we were seated. I must say that the strawberry daquiri's that were recommended by our server were delicious - made with all fresh ingredients and not overly sweet. We decided to order our meals when we ordered our drinks because we were very hungry! It took another 10-15 minutes after we ordered before I flagged down the server and had to ask where my salad was. She checked on it and came right back with it. It was a nice salad with cranberries, walnuts and feta but it could've been a hell of a lot bigger! The meals took another 15-20 minutes after that to arrive. I had a hazlenut-crusted duck dish with a cherry sauce. This is the second time I've ordered this dish and it was a lot fattier this time around. For a $22 entree, it was not worth it. My sister had a 4 oz. filet and portobella mushroom fritters from the tapas menu and she seemed to enjoy both. After 3 meals at the Cellar I'm not sure if I'd give it another chance. It is pricey and the service did not impress for this expensive a restaurant. read more

The Cellar is a quaint restaurant in the middle of downtown Owego. While the exterior gave the impression of a senior citizens hangout, the interior was quite nice. They have a great paneled bar. And their dining room is very well decorated (again, I'm a sucker for tin ceilings). We went for brunch. We started off with some homemade danish, which was the BEST cheese danish I've ever had. Amazing! It came out warm and gooey, and was delicious but not too sweet. I had the Eggs Benedict, which was not amazing, but solid. The waffle was pretty good and came with a choice of different fruit options - always a plus. So I would recommend The Cellar for brunch. I haven't been there for any other meal, but give it a shot! read more

I made my way over to Owego for the first time today and had brunch at the Cellar. They have an extensive brunch menu with multiple omelets, eggs benedict dishes, quiche, french toast, pancakes -- the works. I went with the Mediterranean omelet (tomatoes, feta, spinach, basil) and I wasn't disappointed; it was on par with some of the better omelets I've had in NYC. Their home fries were quite good as well. A guy at the table next to mine ordered the pancakes, and they looked and smelled amazing. The menu noted that they hand make their own syrups, so I think I'll definitely have to give those a try on my next visit. They also have a tapas menu on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights, with some really interesting menu choices. All in all, this is a quaint spot (as noted before, the tin ceiling is great) with unique menu choices, good ingredients, and very reasonable prices for the quality of the dishes. My brunch for two with coffee, a mimosa and a shared dessert frankly wasn't much more than what it would cost to have breakfast at a standard Southern Tier diner. I expect that Sunday drives to The Cellar will be a regular routine for me. read more

We stopped here for dinner Friday evening on our way to the Finger Lakes for the weekend. We were fortunate to get a table without a reservation - the restaurant had a good stream of customers even early on Friday. Cocktails were inventive and really good! Fried oysters appetizer was probably the best I've had with a FANTASTIC sauce. I shared a cheesesteak with one of our dining companions and we each got a salad. We actually bought a bottle of the house salad dressing because it was so great! The cheesesteak - just a simple cheesesteak - was fantastic! Glad we decided to split it because between the two of us and with a salad we couldn't eat another bite. My husband really enjoyed the slider plate. We will definitely come here again! The blue cheese oysters was the only dish that really disappointed, as they are not served on the half shell, and didn't seem very fresh, plus it was served cold. The mixed berry pie was excellent. The ambiance is cozy and classy. The menu is a mix between seafood, French/Italian and American. The service is very friendly and fast. I am not a big fan of their wine list -- mostly wines on the very cheap side. The food menu is extensive but I was never wowed by the food there. I would like to start out with saying the rating of 1 star is to much. My friend and his soon to be wife had their rehearsal dinner here. Needless to say it was very disappointing. The orders had been sent into the "chef" the week before and the bride to be was given assurance that they would be prepared, they in fact where very unprepared. We had 26 people in our party and arrived around 6:30pm orders where take again for some reason and placed about 45min after that. We finally got our food at 8:40pm. It's the night before their wedding and they had to wait until 8:40 pm to eat? Really? So I sent my food back, I ordered beef wellington. I know beef Wellington is to have a pink center and cooked evenly. Mine was gray all the way through so I guess they nailed it on the even cooking. The side was rice with some sort of brown sauce all over the plate. It tasted like boiled meat. No seasoning in the one bite I had. Totally gross. I was not they only one with this complaint but at that point everyone was so hungry they just needed to eat. I noticed one of the other members of the party asked to speak to the owner so I joined in. The owner gave an excuse that she normally plans the parties and that she let the chef do it and he's " not good with the details", that is no excuses for what happened. Also don't belittle your chef, husband and co owner in front of disgruntled patrons, it's not very classy. Then my favorite part of the encounter, she said I tried to call the bride to be but she didn't pick up. Really blame the patron for your downfall. Blame the cook, don't take the blame for messing up the dinner, just blame those who don't own the the place. It was bad business, that's the long and short of it. So after speaking with her and the cook the bride to be and groom spoke to her and they tentatively paid for their dinners along with their child's and the mothers. Everyone else was still having to pay for what the owner agreed was a less then desirable experience. I was not impressed and would not recommend this place to anyone trying to have a good time. If you want good food travel away from there, you will be glad you did. read more

I had a really bad experience at The Cellar. The food is fine...not great but fine. The prices are high for the area. It's the staff that makes this business so extremely unpleasant. They were rude from the hostess at the door, to the waiter, right up to the manager. I found out from reading other reviews on here that the staff are all part of the same family, that explains a lot because any place other than a family run business would fire employees who throw as much attitude to paying customers as the family that runs The Cellar dish out. If you want overpriced food and a staff that makes you feel like your an annoyance then try The Cellar, otherwise take your money to another business that will appreciate your patronage. read more

Took my daughter out for her graduation meal because she likes the burgers here. They were out of everything I wanted, informed after sitting down that the owner/cook/manager (bad combo there) was going on vacation so there was a "limited menu". Might be good to post that shit on the door in big letters so ppl know what they're getting into, duh. When we did order we waited 45 minutes for our food. I got the chicken Oscar. The chicken was dry and tough, the crab was FULL of shell and instead of the special "hand churned hollandaise" their pretentious menu touts I got a greasy, wobbly, pile of split eggs and butter sitting on top of everything. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed but it's sure as hell going to be the last. The last time I was there I ordered the smoked salmon and my son ordered ribs. Both items were smoked to the point of crumbling and tasted like pure chemicals. Then the waitress had the audacity to tell my son that he should like the bbq sauce after he had said he didn't. For how lofty they like to advertise themselves their food and service fucking sucks and is insultingly overpriced. $8 for a tiny garden salad? Usually those come WITH a $27 meal, along w bread and butter lol. What a joke. Ditch the "French bistro" crap because you obviously suck at it and just stick to sandwiches and beer. read more

Went here for dinner one night with a friend as a recommendation. Absolutely fantastic family owned and operated place. The staff - as I mentioned family owned - was very attentive and spot on. The same can be said for the food (highly suggested the Whiskey Medallions). The only downside I can think about this place is that the tables were somewhat wobbly and small, but manageable. If you want to enjoy some great tasting very fairly priced food head to The Cellar. read more
