Looking for a place to eat with my cousins and boyfriend, and not one place would seat us do to being booked for the rest of the night! What a relief to find the Channelside who agreed to seat our party of five within in 15 minutes on the porch so we could have a nice view of the river. After being seated, we all ordered ourselves some cocktails (found mine to be more on the eh side) but were nevertheless happy. Our table ordered garlic/parm wings and the mac n cheese that came with shrimp & meat to start off as appetizers. We all loved their wings and ended up asking for bread just to mop up all the delicious sauce. The mac was good but I personally found it to be a little dry----but the flavors were all there and the shrimp was cooked well. For dinner, I ordered the chicken sandwich which I really regretted ordering because it had absolutely no flavor and the chicken was pretty dry. My boyfriend, my much better half, went for the roast beef sandwich which was phenomenal so I ended up stealing bites of his meal throughout the rest of our dinner. The bartender suggestions were spot on delicious and fresh - thank you very much and thank you for the sincerity and fresh attitude. Portions were great as well as the atmosphere and cleanliness. This is in a great location. It was ok, has the foundation to be better, but just didn't meet the mark. We visited on a Friday (today), at 5:15pm. It started with the hostess asking if we wanted inside or outside, if we wanted outside we could be seated immediately. Inside had a 30 minute wait and she noted we couldn't change our minds once we were seated. it looked like rain and a bit breezy so we opted to wait. She took our number and told us she'd call when our table was ready. 25 minutes later she called. We were then taken to our table...outside. The person taking us to our table apologized. She was headed to find out what happened when we opted to keep the seats since they were under cover. Our waitress was very friendly and overall she did a good job. I ordered a dirty martini, with extra olives. My husband ordered beer. We ordered the cheese curd appetizers, my daughter ordered the kid's cheeseburger, my husband got a fish fry with NO coleslaw, and I ordered the tuna rice bowl. The drink took some time and my martini missed the mark with zero olive juice. The waitress got some for me, crisis averted. The deep fried cheese curds arrive with a spicy raspberry sauce. Unfortunately I forgot a picture, but these were very good. We were all a bit hesitant on the spicy raspberry sauce, but this was excellent. The cheese curds and breading were also very good. My daughter's cheeseburger was average. My husbands fish fry...it came with coleslaw on the plate. Luckily not Mayo based or he would of returned it. It was vinegar based so he pushed it away from the fish...the damage however was wet fish...and the slaw was sweet, so not so good. More disappointing was the fish was cod, not the advertised haddock, so about as good as cod gets - flavorless. The breading was good. The fries were hand cut, crispy, well salted and very good. My tuna bowl...disappointing. The rice was crunchy and cold. The tuna was good. But checkout the picture. There were three different Mayo based "drizzles" which were waaaaay too thick, waaay too much. I had to scrape it off and still had too much. The fish and shrimp were nicely cooked and the sesame crust on the tuna was also good. This dish could really be good but the Mayo, Mayo, Mayo just killed it. We got desserts to go. They are all handmade at the restaurant and these almost deserved giving another star. So don't miss out on these, very yummy. Overall, I might give this place another try. It's a beautiful area. Hopefully they make a few tweaks and make this place what it could be. read more

The front receptionist was AWFUL! Kept telling us 5 minutes...it ended up being 1 hour and 45 minutes. She gave no explanation and was extremely rude. Almost left when we were finally seated. Again another 15 minutes and no service. Then Jake came and saved the day. He was amazing. Most of the food was good (ribeye overcooked along with steak on steak salad...but Jake's service saved the day. read more

A very unpleasant experience today. I called 2 hours prior to arrival and made a reservation. Arrived 15 minutes early and checked in. We waited outside. At 6pm, I went into the restaurant to see where we were with getting seated. In 15 minutes, they lost my name and reservation that they had already confirmed. Utter chaos at the check in desk and not just with me. Dysfunctional is not even close. After me not backing down, we were seated. It was very obvious confusion was everywhere. We had drinks, then were served our entrees, then the salads came. How very European....or is it a new trend in Clayton, NY? 2 stars is a gift. read more

Our first time in Clayton, we decided to grab a drink and a nosh at this friendly place. Despite it being busy, we were able to grab the last two seats at their beautiful bar which has a view of the river. Friendliest bartender the entire vacation - he was able to wait on scads of people while still maintaining a kind 'how are you' chat with us. Recommend the Bang Bang Shrimp and super yummy stuffed Peppadews on the appetizer menu. WOW! This will be our new regular when we are in the 1000 islands for sure. read more

First of all they do not take reservations. You call and give your name and show up only to find out it's an hour and a half wait. With that said we sat at the bar. Big mistake. The bartender had MAJOR attitude. She should not be working with the public. She checked her watch every 10 to 15 minutes as if it was closing time and it was only 730. It's a shame. We try to stay local and support local businesses but the quality of help is a lot to be desired. Everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the servers has an attitude. Can't say I was as wowed as I thought I'd be. This was a place that a local told us about. Perhaps it was due to the holiday weekend but I was surprised that the mashed potatoes were "instant" rather than real potatoes. Staff were courteous and hard workers. Nice lively restaurant in this small "antique" town of Clayton. Dined by the water and it was chilly but enjoyable. Good ambiance and overall decor. Busy on a Friday night but didn't have to wait for a table. The waitress (Lori) was nice and attentive albeit a bit forgetful. Complimentary bread with butter was nice. I've had better bread though. Butter seemed locally made with chives. Tasted good. Crab cakes for appetizers. Very good. House salad with one of the best thousand island dressings I've ever had. Got the special of the day for my entree. The NY strip steak with mushroom glaze. Cooked like I wanted. Well done. Very tender. Could have used a bit more flavor though. 6/7 out of 10 on my steak love scale. Garlic mashed potatoes were good but could be warmer. Side of veggies was good. Will try the Thousand Island Inn steak next. Might come back to this place but will probably try their burgers instead. read more

Glad we found this place. Staff was friendly and very organized and attentive. It was a extremely busy night and the staff outdid themselves providing great service. We couldn't get outdoor setting but atmosphere was still great! Burgers were amazing, well cooked, flavorful, great toppings and huge size. Local special of the perch dinner was to die for. We ate here in celebration of our anniversary while on vacation in Clayton. We were VERY disappointed in the service to say the least. There were parties that arrived after we did that received their meals before us, our waitress wasn't very attentive and we had to wait forever to get drink refills while waiting for our food. When we finally got our food, the waitress brought the wrong entree to my SO!! The waitress barely apologized and took his dinner back like it was our fault she screwed up. He had to wait another 30 minutes to get his dinner while I ate mine. We should've been compensated in some way. A free drink while we waited for his meal or SOMETHING!! Watch the sunset over the St. Lawrence from this great little spot! Menu includes yummy appetizers (wings, tuna, poutine, etc), as well as salads (try the Yum, Yum, Yum salad) and sandwiches. All goes well with a pretty extensive wine and beer selection, plus full bar. With not too many spots in Clayton to grab an evening cocktail for sunset, this tends to be a 'go to' for us when we are in town. Beware though - they tend to close early on the weekdays! read more

We visited the Chanelside today. We were seated inside and saw an outside table and were rudely told they couldn't seat us there with no explanation given. Shortly afterward another party was seated there.. We were then greeted by our waitress (Tay) in a very impatient manner. We then waited for over an hour for our meal! We asked what the problem was after we saw another table receive food (they were seated after us) and was told they were short handed and that was the way it was. We finally received our meal and one salad was missing the chicken. We were told it was her mistake with no real effort to make it right and no apology. SAD!!! read more

I never really leave yelp reviews but our server was so lovely I had to find a way to show my appreciation. We came in with a group of nine including 3 kids and a newborn on Sunday night. One of our kids had a meltdown because her zucchini pasta was green (if you have a five year old you understand) and Katie was so kind and patient with her and ran through a list of options until she heard one she liked and calmed down. Thanks for the great service! I will comment that my chicken sandwich was very bland but it feels wrong to take stars off for personal preference. What a great view! Right on the river!! The fish was very fresh. The fried cheese curds were delicious. I ordered a Cordon bleu panini which was served with a fabulous dipping sauce. We were all very please with are entrees. The best part was being able to see a large ship pass us by as we were eating. Great Night! read more

Service was very good. Waitress said she was new but you would never know it. Very efficient. Caesar salad was very good. One tip. If you are expecting real haddock in the fish and chips, which is advertised as haddock, then don't order the fish and chips because it isn't haddock. Probably cod or some other cheaper white fish. Mother's Day and the wife wanted to eat overlooking the water...so off to Clayton we went. Walking through downtown, the Channelside had a sidewalk sign promising free stawberry shortcake for Moms. Sold. We were seated inside, with a gorgeous view of the water. There were specials, but no prices! If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. So we went with sandwiches from the regular menu. We started with the Bang Bang Shrimp. Fresh and tasty, if not a little less spicy than at other places. My wife enjoyed the Philly Cheese steak. I had the tasty Bronco Burger. It's very juicy. Try to keep from dripping on yourself. Both came with house fried chips. They were fine, but don't spend an extra two dollars to upgrade to fries. They're nothing special. My daughter had an order of very good wings. The service we received was excellent, and the view is spectacular. read more

We reached Clayton NY during late afternoon and were looking for a quick place . I was skeptic when we saw this place and thought it would take ages for them to get our lunch out, however, they were very quick and the food was very good. I had ordered a glass of local wine and a vegetarian panini and my husband ordered a plate of wings , panini was made with fresh ingredient and the bread was perfect. I cant say that I tried the wings, but they looked and smelled amazing. We asked to be seated outside on the porch, from there you get a nice view of the St. Lawrence river. read more
