Sunset on the St. Lawrence River

BEAUTIFUL VIEW ON THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER IN CLAYTON, NY ==================================================== My husband and I rented an Airbnb in Clayton from April 7, 2024 until April 10, 2024. It was a miracle we found a place, not too far from Fort Drum, because the total solar eclipse happened on April 8th. Lots of Upstate New York was under the direct path. My son and daughter-in-law stayed with us the first night and we scrambled to find a place to have dinner. My son and daughter-in-law had been to The Channelside before so we called to make a reservation. Definitely ask for a table closest to the river or sit on the outdoor patio if the weather is nice. We all liked our dinner. I had a great salad with chicken and possibly a moscow mule. I was too tired to keep track of everyone else's meals, but everyone seemed content. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, open at 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. On the weekend they are open at 11:30 a.m.. Definitely go for lunch and sit outside on a nice day.

May 2023 Experience. Friendly staff, great food, beautiful view, and amazingly flavorful API. Let's see if it lives up to it in October 2024.

We happened to come on a Sunday evening and it was packed. We were lucky to grab some bar seats and avoid the long wait. We were lucky that the bartenders were wonderful and very attentive because about 5 mins after we ordered our food the power went out in the whole area for the rest of the evening. We were very lucky because somehow our food still made it out and was pretty good. The prime rib was a big healthy portion and was cooked pretty close to medium rare. The scallops were a little chewy and didn't have a char on them but they weren't bad considering what just happened. At that point we were just happy to have food. The bartenders let us enjoy our meal and took down our credit card for when the power went back on. They even texted us a copy of the receipt. We appreciated the hospitality while we were traveling.

Excellent location Excellent place! From the girl who seated us to the waiter "Barry" who waited on us. Don't let the front fool you..in the back is an outdoor seating area cooled by ceiling fans and right on the water beautiful comfortable clean area with a great view . The drinks came quick ..our waiter Barry was spot on even with his knowledge of the River. Food came pretty quick, and was delicious ,maybe the best around the Alex Bay and Clayton area. Plus the area Clayton is such a cool vibe. Price was reasonable, and will definitely go back while we are in the area. Even the inside is great if you can't get outside. Don't miss out give it a shot you won't be sorry.

    The view. Gorgeous.

The Channelside is a must stop if you are staying in Clayton or nearby. They have a very nice outdoor deck with seating areas in the sun and shade overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The indoor dining area was also lovely, but we chose to eat outside. Great service and great food. We shared the stuffed peppadew peppers and then had the Blue Crunch Steak Salad and Bang Bang Shrimp as entrees. We were very happy with everything we ordered and this will absolutely be a stop anytime we are in Clayton. The stuffed peppers were full of cheesy goodness, the steak was incredibly tender on the salad and I definitely stole at least half of the candied walnuts from my husbands salad, they were just too good. Loved my shrimp, they came sans tails and the sauce was delicious. This is definitely a spot where you could lounge and spend some time having drinks or a long meal.

Good food. Good service. Nice balcony in water. However dining area in back left hand corner far too loud. Rest of restaurant is fine.

Great atmosphere and food was good. However, for only two couples in the restaurant service was slow and waitress wasn't friendly.

Go only if you care about location. The management is haughty, the service is slow, food is just ok. The mojitos are awful.

The "fresh baked" Mac and cheese suggested by the owner had no flavor. Not even cheese. Just mushy elbow macaroni. But worse, I asked if the battered haddock sandwich was fresh or frozen and the owner - who was sitting in a booth working on a laptop, lied and emphatically said it was. No, it sure wasn't. You know flat haddock strips that are breaded and frozen and sold in bulk? And the restaurant then just heats it up in hot oil? Kinda like a Tops fish fry? That's what it was. Slapped on a slightly toasted hoagie roll with a plastic cup of tartar sauce, no lettuce or tomato. Plus my $3 Diet Coke arrived in a little juice glass, lol. Lots of empty tables but still a 15 min wait, and they didn't seem to have enough staff to keep up with bussing dirty tables. All in all a poor lunch experience for two with bill over $50. Something is really wrong when a restaurant can't keep enough staff to run properly. I miss Koffee Kove.

When we told her we only had 3 people vs. 4 in our reservation, she was kinda rude, saying, "so we're down to 3 now.? Really, does that really matter as most tables are for 4 anyways. Our waitress Jocelyn was great, but too bad she had to deliver the food we ordered. The steak and Gorgonzola flat bread was missing the steak. When I asked about it, our waitress age and quickly took it back to the kitchen and subsequently returned with it. She was told the steak is in there, underneath the cheese, NOT! They didn't offer to take this off my bill or offer anything else, instead they gave me takeout container of extra meat. I guess I'm supposed to make my own flatbread with the leftovers. Another person in our party ordered the coconut shrimp salad, which came with 3 shrimp at a cost of $22. I really wanted the special, 8 oz. filet mingon with 2 scallops, $68. Had to pass on that. Sorry, won't be going back anytime soon or recommending sadly.

And excited to check it out. I studied the online menu for a week perfectly plotting my culinary attack! I wanted the seafood tower with buttery Avacado, ahi tuna and pinnaple pico. My god I'm still thinking about the potential. My server quickly let me down saying the online menu is vastly diffeent then the current menu and she often has to tell people the bad news and she doesn't know why the online website hasn't been updated. ****ALERT ALERT***** management, take care of business here! Why do the low level staff member have to deliver the bad news and possible lose compensation. Step up, alter the online menu....contact your website builder or utilize an AI menu importer. Anyhow, I had to pivot and I went with my go to in most places and it was the calamari appetizer (which does not appear on the menu). I can't even recap what the description says because it's not listed On the menu. But, I truly HATED IT. It was those jumbo rubbery calamari rings instead of the lovely delicates smaller rings and tentacles. So, not only are they tough and chewy but they were soooo oily. Like you could ring them out. Several were stuck together in a clump and the the breading was mushy. Also, then reading was weirdly sweet and I strongly disliked that surprise. Lastly there were fried hot peppers mixed in. I think there might have been mention of this in description but I couldn't point them out before eating them so it was like little time Bombs I would have tried to avoid. The dipping aioli was okay. The guys got Reuben's and Liked them. Kids meals are $14.99. Choices: Buttered pasta Grilled cheese Hot dog Chicken tenders Fried chicken sandwhich I can't be believe anyone would have the audacity to charge 14.99 for the first 3. Ps, drinks NOT INCLUDED. I guess they don't want chicken at their establishment. At least that's the signal they're sending me. Overall not rushing back. Will only be back if there is zero parking in Clayton for any of the other restaurants.

The coffee was slightly bitter for my taste, but overall it was good and I enjoyed it. I also ordered an almond bear claw. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it contained raisins, and I'm not a fan of raisins, so I probably wouldn't have chosen it had I known. That said, the pastry itself was fresh and tasty, and the raisins were more of a personal preference issue than a problem with the food. My wife ordered an iced chai latte and absolutely loved it. She often finds chai lattes to be watered down, but she said this one was perfectly sweet, full of flavor, and one of the better ones she's had. The cafe itself is cute, very clean, and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The prices were also surprisingly reasonable. Here's the pros: small quaint setting with nice clean high top tables and chairs. The bar was small but stocked well. Here's the cons: very slow service, overpriced menu items. When we came in, we ordered our drinks which came fairly quickly. Since the server was also the bartender, we were waiting a while for her to take our order. I ordered the turkey club sandwich while my wife ordered a BLT sandwich. Both sandwiches did not come with a side..those were extra. We ordered a side of fries to share. Those sandwiches and fries should not have taken long to make and be served. However, we waited at least 30 minutes while the server was eating pizza with the folks at the bar. We were the only dining customers in there at the time. When the order came out, the toast on the BLT and the bacon was cold. She said she would go "warm it up". We asked for new toast. I will say that the food tasted fine. My club sandwich would have been worth the menu price of $16 if it came with a side. However, my wife's BLT, even if it came with a side, would still be overpriced at $14. Overall, for the value, the food delivered was a bit pricey. Would we go there again to eat? No. But if all you want is to stop in for a drink or two, it would be fine.
