Great atmosphere and food was good. However, for only two couples in the restaurant service was slow and waitress wasn't friendly.

I went to channelside for the second time after going with a friend of the owners. When I arrived with her, we were seated immediately, treated wonderfully and our service was quick. I thought this was a new GEM (since my hometown is all waterfront restaurants, it was nice to have something familiar) and boy was I wrong. This time, being someone unfamiliar and arriving at 6 PM a woman who I THINK was the owner promptly told us "If you want to sit outside its an hour." We said "we will take whatever, not a problem." Then we sat down to wait. In the time we waited she sat an eight top, sent two couples to the bar (which was never suggested as an option for us), and then came to ask us if we were the "Petits." I responded "No you never asked us for a name..." So then she wrinkles her nose and writes down our name TWENTY TWO minutes after we sat to wait. Then finally after 35 minutes of waiting I had had enough, the owner/hostess was nowhere to be found, and then when I stood up to head to the bar, she saw me and returned to the front. I asked how long and she said "well we have to clear some things off, but about 5 minutes." Thankfully it was five minutes, where we were walked to our table. Now there were two things about that walk, one good, one bad. The first is we were surprised to be given a seat out on the patio, which we had though was not an option. HOWEVER, we were walked past a total of 8 open tables that could have accommodated two in the bar and dining room. Our waitress was very friendly and she took our orders immediately. Our drinks came. We waited..... and waited.....and waited.... and 30 minutes later we got our appetizer, which was the cheese curd. Now the curd is their SIGNATURE dish, which usually is great, but this time it was just a mess, the cheese had melted all over the dish and oozed oil. There was no remaining shell on the cheese, it had all been crushed or gotten soggy. After eating our appetizer because we were starving, another 10 minutes later we got water and bread (shouldn't that have come out first?!?!?!?!). Another 20 minutes after THAT we got our food, which was luke warm, the potatoes had clearly been sitting under a lamp or in an over for far too long and they had NO garlic flavor what so ever. The chicken was pretty decent, as was the sandwich, but not astonishing for the price. We were uncomfortable with the entire night, and quite frankly the fact I wasted 75$ on a special evening with my husband makes me so angry I will never return even though I had plans to with friends next week. I understand circumstance, but to be treated so poorly by presumably an OWNER, and to be given such a drastically different treatment because I was not one of the "locals" is unacceptable. The service, was unacceptable, the condition of the food, was unacceptable. This might be a gem to the locals, but it is a nightmare to anyone they don't know or recognize. read more

We recently dined at the Channelside restaurant and had another fantastic meal. The nightly specials are always top picks, and their patio offers majestic views of the St. Lawrence River that can't be beat. This place is a must for fabulous outdoor dining in Clayton. Great menu, great prices and friendly staff, we will definitely be back. read more

Right on the water, so try to get a seat on the patio. The food and ambiance is otherwise pretty forgettable. We sat at the bar and had a sassy barkeep who mixed a mean martini, but the bar is central station for the servers too, so be prepared for commotion on a busy evening. The fried cheese curd is a ridiculous absurdity, but it's worth a try for the regionality and it sure doesn't taste terrible. read more

We arrived before 6 pm and got the last small table in the shade on the patio. River views are great, and we enjoyed watching the variety of boats go by. We both had pannini sandwiches - California for me and steak for hubby. Both were good. Mine (on sun-dried ciabata) was so big I brought half of it home for lunch tomorrow. His was smaller (on plain ciabata) but the steak was cooked perfectly and he was happy. Our waitress didn't tell us we could have onion rings instead of potato chips for $2 more - we heard another waitress say it later. We recommend you arrive early for a seat on the deck, as it was full when we left and tables inside were starting to fill. read more

We came for lunch and were seated outside on the deck. There was a race in town so it was very interesting seeing tankers go by with racing boats and pleasure boats all over the place. Service was very attentive. Cheese curd appetizer was okay. Fish and chips okay. The fries were not hot and they immediately replaced them. Really wanted perch but they didn't have any. Salads looked very good. So view is great and food is okay. read more

Stopped in for an early dinner with a friend after an afternoon of sightseeing. We were offered a choice of an indoor or outdoor table. Since it looked like it might rain, we chose an indoor table by a window that overlooked the St. Lawrence. We glanced at the menu and found things to be a little pricey. We both ordered the haddock. This came with choice of mashed potatoes or rice, plus salad and vegetables. Salads were attractive and fresh. I had the balsamic dressing and my friend had the ranch. Both were good. The waitress brought us rolls with the salads, rye with soft butter pats. It wasn't long before the dinner entrees were brought out. The haddock was perfectly cooked, broiled with lemon-butter sauce and sprinkled with lightly toasted Panko crumbs. It was delicious... no "fishy" taste at all! The potatoes were pretty good. Mixed veggies were so-so, as I found the cauliflower to be a little too firm. Saw that many customers who were also in the restaurant were ordering burgers and fries. Portions looked very generous and appetizing. Hope to go back again! read more

The food was okay. Not worth the prices. My husband and I got the burgers and they were good. Not worth the 13$ pricetag. View is awesome. And restaurant itself is nice looking. But the food needs to step up to match the prices. Wine is mostly out of state which is a little upsetting since the fingerlakes region is so close! read more

My husband and I went on a Wednesday night and there was live music playing outside. Although we sat inside, we had a window seat so we had a view of the river and we could hear the music perfectly. Both the hostess and the waitress were both very engaging. We ordered the seafood mac and cheese, fried cheese curd with raspberry sauce, and the shrimp taco appetizer. The appetizer servings were huge and they were all delicious. The fried cheese curd was the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese was creamy with a perfect blend of flavors. We also ordered a chicken sandwich but could not eat it (too full). I was very impressed with this restaurant and will return. The signature drinks were very good as well, although we did initially have to wait for several minutes before getting served. We had 3 appetizers, a sandwich, and 4 drinks and our bill was about $70. read more

We ate at Channelside because it was a beautiful evening to sit on a deck and enjoy the River. Based on some of the reviews, we were aware that there may be issues, primarily with getting bread. I'm happy to say that we did not experience that! We were seated and served our drinks and bread really fast! I had the Blue Crunch salad, which was yummy, and a glass of Coyote Moon River Time White. (Hey, when in Clayton, why not drink from the local vineyard?). My husband had the Haddock dinner, which was equally delish! Both meals were served quickly and at the right temp. We would definitely return! read more

I went here once before and had a lovely evening, however, last night was not nearly as wonderful. After being seated at 6, our food did not come out until 7-7:15. Not only were four of the six orders wrong, but one of the particular orders was wrong three seperate times. Our waitress was rude. I was extremely disappointed. For a place with an amazing amount of potential Channelside routinely disappoints. The first time I visited in November of 2013 I was delighted to eat at the only place in Northern New York that seemed to be in the 21st Century. Since then, I have been back a handful of times hoping to repeat that experience. I have been disappointed every time and promise to never go back. Pick a flaw and the have it. Inattentive staff, slowly prepared food, poorly prepared food, etc. My last visit on June 6, 2015, it took over an hour to get our food after we sat down, and it was cold when it arrived. Now I am sure that I will not be back to overpay for overpriced bad food and poor service. read more

The service of this place is atrocious. I ordered poutine for an appetizer and it came out cold not once, but three times. The waitress hardly ever came to our table and we never got our food because we waited over an hour for it and just decided it wasn't worth it and left. These people need to get their shit together. Horrible...Service was incredibly slow. 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us, 12 minutes for coffee to arrive after ordering and 55 minutes for two Panini sandwiches to arrive which were not good. Last time I will waste my time and money in that place. There are so many more places that value customers in and around Clayton to give your business to. read more

The food might be good but we never found out as we sat for 20 minutes waiting for even water. Waitresses came and served the tables around us and avoided us like the plague while walking away. Didn't hear a word as we got up and left either. Not going to be returning. read more

While the view is amazing, the service and food lacked tremendously... our family of four stopped by to just look at a menu, at which time the hostess convinced us to stay and eat there because the "fish tacos were amazing." We love fish tacos, so we decided to stay... once seated and with partial drinks (husband and I never got our water), we were told that there were no fish tacos that night... shouldn't the hostess have known this prior to baiting us in on that recommendation alone?? Anyway, we ordered three appetizers and two dinners. My scallops were raw on the first attempt, and the four small to medium-sized scallops, even after recooking, were definitely not worth the $32 charged for that dish alone {total bill was over $160} - they were still barely cooked. The only side with the scallops was a mushroom risotto with no visible mushrooms and which had little taste at all. We were never brought bread for the two dinners, and again, no water... While the waiter was very nice and trying very hard to please, he accidentally tipped a cup of oil salad dressing onto my daughter's new crocheted purse leaving some noticeable staining... all of this with no offer to compensate for the dissatisfaction with the dinners, or the damage done to personal property.
