This is a tricky review. First, happy one year anniversary and congrats on all the 5-star reviews. But readers, be prepared. This is not a standard taco shop. It's a $$$($) taco shop and the debate will rage about cost. We arrived early for lunch with a party of 4 plus a small child. We said, bring us what you think we should get. That turned into a one of everything approach. We got shrimp, chicken, and steak tacos and an order of marrow bones. We added 5 Jarritos. Everything is served on quarter-sheet hotel pans. There is cutlery for eat-in and plastic cutlery for to-go orders. The tacos come 2 to an order with a scoop of rice and a bowl of beans. The marrow came with grilled yellow squash. The squash was INCREDIBLE! It may have been the very best bite of all. The shrimp tacos were very flavorful and the smaller shrimp used were easy to eat in the taco format. The chicken and steak tacos were equally good. We were cutting them in half and passing them around. The marrow was enjoyed more by the guys than the ladies at the table. But you scoop the marrow, which is mixed with chimchurri, into a a piece of tortilla (for some reason the tortilla was different than the tortillas used for the tacos). It smelled great and the marrow was very rich. We ate at noon and that was the last meal of the day. Now the question: what are 6 tacos, 5 drinks, and two marrow bones worth? the bill was $100 + tax + tip. There's not a lot of service involved as you are ordering at the counter and no one's really checking in on you. The very basic interior had six tables (enough for a dozen diners) and they were all full when we left. The food was generally delicious, but were the 6 tacos (let's leave the marrow bones out of the equation) worth whatever we paid (there is no pricing on the menu board)? We come from the land of tacos and I lean toward "We really enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't repeat it at the price". It was really good, too. We ordered without asking about cost. The Char Market is a delicious fast sit down restaurant. I ordered the shrimp tacos. When I took my first bite I immediately understood why they are called the Char Market. The young man at the front counter was very nice. I came in close to opening, so I was surprised to see the table I sat at was dirty. Means the closing crew left it dirty overnight which was disappointing. So, the food. The good was the you could taste chat with the chicken. Also the elote was very well seasoned. I've done takeout here probably 5 - 6 times now and I have to say that it's worth checking out. My go to is the taco plate: two tacos with varying meat choices, charro beans and rice. To me, this guy has all the markings of success. He's been around the world and has great food instincts. He's confident - he knows his lane and he stays in it. The food was awesome! I was sad I that I have to wait to try all the other delicious dishes that were coming out of the kitchen! We had the Char Steak plate that came with beautiful hand made tortillas, delicious lime rice, grilled squash (my favorite part) and delectable charred steak chunks (also my favorite part) The entire dish was very very tasty and I ate ALL of it. Service was very friendly and wait was not long. We will be back to try the other dishes and concha sandwich!! read more
