Way too smoky and mixed with other smoked stuff so you can't taste any bone marrow. Serving size was ok (2 filled halves) but basically inedible. * (2) Steak Taco - $10: Plain, greasy. Toppings standard. Nothing special. Small servings. * Elote - $7: The only thing I liked but have had better elsewhere. All of that for over $60 not including delivery since we didn't want to deal with the non-existent service. We came in on a Friday to check out the bone marrow everyone has been talking about. The interior is small and simple, but the food and the service ate amazing. If you like to eat out, try this place, get ready to get your hands dirty! I mean when we opened the food ware we said that's food for two days but bone marrow was gone in 10 minutes! No wonder why it is their specialty! My boyfriend who is not a bone-in meat eater was regretting not getting a bone marrow, sad for him good for me and our pup! I have to mention the grilled veggies come with the bone marrow, they are also highlight of the meal! I saw this Mexican place in Carmichael had 4 plus stars so I hit directions and followed them, without reading the reviews. The directions led us to a weird tiny strip mall. We pulled in to see a place with mirrored windows that didn't let you see in. It looked more like a dive tattoo place, or a smoke shop, than a market. We almost drove away, but I was hungry and wanted to see what was inside. Yelp almost never lets me down! Upon opening the door, it was obvious The Char Market was an eatery, not a market that also offered food. OK! We grabbed a menu and noticed limited options. The place was almost empty, with one small family eating in the corner. We studied the menu AND the prices ($18. average) and almost walked out again. We ultimately decided to try it. OMG! The food came out quickly and was so good, we were blown away! The beans! The rice! The tacos! The meat! We kept talking about it. We called our daughter Aimee to tell her and her hubby about it on the way home. When I got home, I wanted to research it more. Upon perusing the menu, I noticed that the offerings were predominantly centered around complete meals featuring rice and beans or grilled vegetables. However, I was in the mood for something different - individual tacos sans the typical filler. I requested a mix of Shrimp, Chicken, and Steak tacos (as those were the only meat options available) and also opted to try the Bone Marrow on the side, not as part of a combo plate. As the dishes arrived at my table, I couldn't help but be drawn to the Bone Marrow, which was the standout highlight of my meal. The meat was out of the world and just perfectly cooked. Sometimes when you order Mexican, you can tell they used the cheap cuts. Nope, you can tell it was the good cuts of meat, well flavored, and put on perfectly grilled veggies. I was in heaven. My partner got the shrimp tacos which she LOVED so much she wanted to keep half for lunch the next day. However, we discovered our dog also LOVED the smell of them and even though we hid them well under other things in our hatchback, attacked them the minute we stepped out to run another errand. Plenty of fresh lettuce on top, with a sauce and I think some cheese too. I inhaled it so fast, plus I was talking while eating so now I'm forgetting the details. But it was delicious and nicely put together. They gave me some salsa verde on the side which I enjoyed. The beans and rice were both tasty sides - not an after thought for sure. They can stand by themselves. Another worker bee emerged from the back kitchen and as he worked I made some comments and we started talking. His name is Noah and he's the owner, along with Shane his business partner. I was intrigued by his story of how he got his start in the food industry, how he learned from his experiences and never gave up. As a food want-tre-paneur myself, I was very inspired by Noah. To me, this guy has all the markings of success. He's been around the world and has great food instincts. He's confident - he knows his lane and he stays in it. He's works like crazy (he told me his hours). He has good values and character (we talked for a while!). He's all about his customers and making them happy (I watched him interact as I sat there eating). He's in it to win it - full of passion and at the restaurant full-time. Show me a talented owner that is fulling invested, on site 24/7 and I'll show you a successful restaurant with a line out the door.
