The absolutly worst place I have ever been. And I have been to sit down resturants in Cambodia. The waitress was rude and didn't pay any attention to us. Most the meals that were brought out were wrong. My wife and I in the group we were in sat there for an hour and a half and didn't have our food brought out. My wife had a grilled cheese sandwhich. How hard is it to make a grilled cheese sandwhich? I would never recommend this place. In fact I recommend the place just close their doors cause they are absolutley horrible. read more

I have been a returning customer to the Charleston for many reasons, the atmosphere and the good food and great location. I have had a Mother's Day event here, a baby shower, and planned girls night out. I have recommended them. I now have to say I will never return again and will be spreading the word how they treat customers. My sister made reservations the same day and shortly after her son started to come down hard with a fever and was sick. She is trying to be conscientious of the pandemic and not go to dinner when her family potentially has a bug they could pass in going to dinner so she called in an hour after she placed the reservation to cancel and the snobby hostess said they refused to refund a $50 hold fee. What would the prefer have her come in when everyone is telling you to stay home if your sick? What kind of customer service is that? She then asked for the manager and they were rude and would not be willing to even come up with a solution or be hospitable. At this point she was frustrated and said fine I guess we won't cancel and we will come in and potentially spread whatever my son has if you rather. They then called her back and left the rudest voicemail and said she would get a refund but would be BANNED from their restaurant for a year for trying to throw the COVId threat! That isn't a threat it's legitimately what everyone is saying everywhere to stay home if you are sick! What awful customer service! I will never go back with that treatment of customers we can take our business elsewhere!! read more

I have mixed feelings and wish I could give separate reviews for service and food. We've eaten here twice and liked the food very much. Things we've tried include the bruschetta, and cheesy artichoke souffle appetizers. Both were delicious. Corn chowder was light (not a creamy base) and well seasoned. The chicken salad is tasty and made more interesting with the addition of tarragon. The ham and cheese panini with apple was good, but I would have preferred a little less cheese and more apple. I haven't tried a dessert yet. I would give the food a solid 4 and look forward to trying more things, but the service needs improvement. The hostess is very pleasant, and the waitress was nice enough, however she took the orders from a table that were seated about 10 minutes after us before she even brought us water. We ended up having to flag down the hostess for that, and also had to ask for drink refills. We split the panini and told her that was our intention when we ordered, but she didn't bring another plate for one of us to use. Had to ask for that, and also had to ask for our appetizer plates to be cleared. i think this place has a lot of promise; the chef clearly knows what he's doing. The location is charming, and such a nice change from chain restaurants in the area. I hope the service will catch up with the food soon. read more

We found Charleston on Yelp and decided to give it a try Saturday night. The great rating is right on. You need to try out this restaurant. Parker was our waiter, the service was impeccable. We split the Lemon-Pecorino Romaine salad. The lemon-pecorino vinaigrette was amazing. We both had the Herbed Roasted filet of salmon. It was cooked to perfection and served on a bed of currant, pine nuts, and couscous. Typically I only eat half and take the rest home for lunch the next day, but I ate the entire entree. Fine dining in Draper? - yup. Not far from the Draper Trail, my wife and I rode our bikes to the Charleston for dinner. The food and service was great - I had the Brazilian Fish Stew and a strawberry tart for desert - and the ambiance is very quaint and relaxed; some people were in ties and others in shorts, like us. Their Rib eye was the best I have ever had! But I was disappointed with the cauliflower soup, far too lemony for a soup. I come to Utah often for work and this place has become a must! The service was excellent, the food is just above that and the overall experience and ambience was exquisite. In an area full of chain restaurants this is a breath fresh air. Marco came out and personally visited with us for a moment which made The experience even more memorable. My husband came to this restaurant and talked with the owner about having a medical condition and not being able to wear a mask. The owner stated that that was fine and he would seat us at an outside table. We made reservations and came to have our meal the next evening. When we showed up the owner came out to meet us and said he would not serve us unless we wore a mask to walk around the OUTDOOR area to our table. The owner wasn't even wearing a mask and when my husband pointed that out he grabbed it from his pocket and put it on. He continued to tell us he wouldn't serve us even though my husband has a medical condition and had brought his prescription to show him. In my opinion this is just plain discrimination. Located in a quaint residential neighborhood the Charleston Draper certainly delivered on a fine dining experience. Chef Marco's artichoke soufflé was so good that I wanted to lick the bowl. The salmon, filet mignon, and chicken pillard were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Natalie our server was second to none and described the dishes so enthusiastically that you certainly wished you had more room. Despite being stuffed you must try Chef Marco's dessert each one was more decadent than the other. If we lived closer this would for sure be at the top of our list of favorite restaurants. read more

The Charleston is a gem. Let me begin with the amazing ambiance. This restored 1878 home has been decorated to the hilt of 1920's nostalgia. The beautiful wood moldings, the gorgeous chandeliers, the phonograph giving an illusion that it's indeed playing the classic music; all sets the stage for a charming dining experience. The owner Naomi, has made a point of using local fresh ingredients. She shared with us that, "it's worth paying more" for good local produce and coffee. I agree! She clearly takes pride in her business. As we dined she personally spoke with us and answered questions we had about the history of the home. She was running around the place, clearing tables, taking orders and asking how everything was. For an owner to work this hard, you know they care about their customers. Now onto the food... The coffee is from a local roaster and was very delicious. In reading others reviews, I noted that many said the portion sizes were small. I couldn't disagree more. I was not able to finish my meal. I was totally full. The paninis were delicious. The soup was delicious. The salad was delicious. The service was a little slow. But honestly I didn't mind, as I would have sat and enjoyed the atmosphere longer either way. The owner came to our table to apologize for the delay, explained they were short staffed and offered more coffee on the house. This was a great experience. They are open for brunch and lunch. They just started doing dinner and just got their liquor license as well. I took a peek at the dinner menu and am looking forward to coming back to this fine establishment. read more

If you plan on coming to this restaurant, understand that they won't even seat you within 45 minutes of posted closing time and will be extremely rude about it. Our experience was similar to other bad reviews on here where the patron arrived near close, except we came in the afternoon around 1:45pm with a posted closing of 2:30. We were turned away in what I consider a very rude manner. Service seems to have gone way downhill under the newer management. Also, if you have a hard close at 2:30, you need to post you are closed 30-45 minutes earlier (word of advice to the restaurant). Most places will seat you as long as you arrive by close, so to not follow that same standard makes your service look poor. Would not recommend, not worth it anymore due to poor service and just ok food. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants to go for a family dinner or small get together with friends. Its close to our house and we love the ambiance of the place. Service is usually kind of below average for the kind of restaurant it is but food is always amazing, so somethings we can ignore. However, yesterday we had a bit of a rough experience. Our son has celiac and usually every time we have eaten here they have accommodated to his dietary needs very well. However, yesterday in-spite of us explaining to the server about the gf need and allergy and her telling us that they will be able to accommodate and that she will double check everything, our appetizer order of anti-pasti came with bread on it and his order of salmon came out with cous-cous under the filet. For anti-pasti the explanation was bread is on one side of the dish and not touching the rest of the items on the platter and for cous-cous we were told that it is gluten free and usually for customers who request gluten free get cous-cous anyways but client you have celiac are given without cous-cous. They redid both items but it sure took away the fun out of it because we all ate while our son had to wait for re-dos, it totally messed up the fun of eating together. Now, as much as I appreciate them accommodating for allergies and re preps, I feel staff needs to be trained a little better. If I had not noticed my sons plate, he would have ended up eating the fish with cous cous and it would have turned into a nightmare evening for us. The server apologized for the mess up but it only takes one bad experience for people to never return. read more

VERY disappointed. was so excited to go there, but it was a BIG let down from the beginning. They messed our reservation. Then our dress shoes did not meet the chef requirement, so they set us in the sun on the patio. several minutes after placing our order, our server returned to tell us two of our entrees were not available (this was at 5:30 dinner). evidently the chef failed to inform the servers about the shortage. Now two of our orders were started and two of us had to find something else to eat. Service slow, even by European standards. Food was fair. And then they had set us at a table on top of an ante hill - so we had ante bits on our feet. The server apologize, but the chef never made an appearance. Most high end restaurants usually offer to comp a dessert when things like this happen, but not here. Over $400 for a disappointing experience. First visit was today and I wish i could go back tonight! Anyhow, Charlston has the most delectable salads in town.

Hearing about this business's new dinner option, we decided to check it out. There wasn't any menu info online so we called ahead to see if they had anything vegetarian and they said they could make many things vegetarian so we headed over. We were seated immediately by a kind older lady. The place was described to us as "a smorgasbord" where you order multiple plates and share. We ordered the blood orange salad, the sweet potato gnocchi, and the arancini. To be honest, each dish was pretty bland. The salad was okay, and the sweet potato gnocchi came out with bacon (even though we requested to have it removed) and the arancini was basically deep friend mushroom balls. Nothing was terrible, but nothing particularly stood out either. For some reason each dish was decorated with radishes as well... weird. I don't know if I'll go back with the prices being pretty high for what you get. If it was 1/3 of the price perhaps it could be justified. But $42 for a salad, 5 mushroom balls and a small plate of gnocchi that doesn't taste great is not worth it. The service was good and everyone was friendly, but our waitress made us feel slightly uncomfortable. read more

It was Friday evening and my husband and two kids (12 and 8) drove by and decided to stop for dinner. The ambiance is charming with the big trees out front to provide shade for the outdoor seating area. It's the perfect dinner spot if you're looking for something different from the usual chain restaurants. This was our first time eating here and they recommend sharing plates, family style. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the sweet potato gnocchi, steak and fritz, blood orange salad, drinks (glass of wine, a beer, sodas for the kids) and one dessert to share. Everything was prepared perfectly. The lower score is because it's pricy for the portion size. We spent nearly $95 and left wanting more. Also, there weren't many kid friendly choices. It's fancy food that most kids don't enjoy. Also, we sat outside and had to fight off tiny spiders and other little bugs throughout the evening. Not a deal killer, but took away from the experience. Overall, we're planning to give it another shot but without the kiddos. read more

Last Saturday we celebrated my wife's birthday at The Charleston Draper. Lovely setting, felt very warm and inviting. Well decorated. We were greeted by the friendly staff that was attentive and informative. We started with the Artichoke Souffle- needless to say we were battling over the last bite. My wife had the Charleston Salad and I tried the Salpicao. Both were fresh, well presented and had a wonderful mixture of flavors. We both ordered the Filet Mignon. Juicy, cooked to perfection. Sauces and veggies were also on point and cooked with care. We could not be more please with our dining experience. Chef Marco has created a "world class" dinning adventure, in a beautiful pocket of Draper, UT. Can't wait to try the lunch menu! read more

We went as a group with the Wasatch foodie group, just this last Wednesday night. The food was fine, but the prices and mandatory 22% gratuity added on, was just not right. If the service had been wonderful or even O.k then maybe................but we waited a full hour and 1/2 after ordering to even receive our meal!!!! Then when we did receive it, it all got to us at different times. The first guest got hers 20 min before the rest of us and then had to decide whether to eat it while hot or let it cold waiting for the rest of us to get ours. A couple of us also belong to the Utah wine club and when Angela asked about a Rose on the menu, the server that was supposedly from La Caille, just said that he had never tried it. He had no recommendations. We looked at each other, like Really?? This was a very nice restaurant. One with very steep prices and the server had absolutely no recommendations about the wine. Nor did he ever give us the correct wine list. Also the Rose was room temperature and not chilled. She was told later by the manager that there was also another wine list that showed many more wines. This wine list was never offered or shown to us. The meal that I had was fine, but very pricey. It was the waiting an hour and 1/2 for it to arrive that was just ridiculous. And then the owner calling up my friend and complaining to her about us complaining, I believe that was the last straw in my eyes. Shouldn't he have at least been apologetic?? My meal for one would have been $65, however it was comped. Overall, very pricey and the service very, very, very slow. don't go if you are hungry and don't want to wait. read more

LOVED this place! We went for lunch at 2p and they closed at 3p but never made us feel like we couldn't just sit and talk all day! Met the chef from Brazil and praised him on the food and presentation. I cannot find the menus online since they were just updated so I will do my best to remember what was ordered. We got the Bruschetta for appetizer and the bread was so crunchy with warm tomatoes, garlic on top...YUMMM!! I ordered the Prawn salad and you'll see in the pic it came out with a beautiful orchid in the center and the prawns were grilled to perfection, the dressing they used was also light and delish!! My cohorts ordered a steak sandwich and I think the roast beef?? But everything was AMAZING!! For dessert, they ordered the chocolate truffles with vanilla ice cream and their texture was creamy and not too sweet...perfection! I cannot wait to go back and try the dinner menu. Our waiter, Caden, was also VERY accommodating as was the hostess that checked on us multiple times and made everything a wonderful experience. read more

Great service, wonderful ambiance, ridiculous prices. We spent $17 for crab stuffed shrimp over asparagus and got 5 medium size shrimp with very little flavor. We then ordered the steak frites for $19 and got maybe 8-10 slices of steak the size of a half dollar and a pile of shoestring fries. The fries were really yummy, but the steak lacked oomph. I would pay these kind of prices for the ambiance and quality of food, however, there was just nothing special about these meals and my husband and I both left hungry. 6/16/2018 I was so disappointed in my experience at Charleston Draper! We were enjoying their outdoor dining when I discovered the chair I was sitting in had mulberries on the seat. I unfortunately had on new, white pants! The server initially reacted as if I had spilled food on myself...then quickly realized no one at the table had berries in their food. I waited til the end of the meal to see if someone would say something about what had happened. I thought mgmt should be aware and I finally went to talk with the host. He said he would inform the owner/chef. I observed the host talking with the waitress and then the owner. I was not expecting a free meal...only an acknowledgment and apology....I got neither. I was so surprised and disappointed that in leaving the restaurant we walked right by the waitress, host and owner without any of them saying a word to me. Such an incredible lack of concern for customer satisfaction and care! Not to mention....failure to do the right thing!! read more

We went dinner on Saturday night. We've been greeted and seated nicely. After checking the menu and as I am vegan, I asked the waitress if the Cauliflower Soup had milk, as well as if the chef could create an appetizer for me. She took 3 back and forth to the kitchen to find out the answers. When the appetizers arrived, the Artichoque Souffle my husband order was nicely presented, taste was Ok. The 'Chef creation' that I got was a dish with 6 boiled green beans, 3 boiled asparagus and 2 boiled carrots. No balsamic, oil, sauce, sautée or anything to enhace the dish. Barely 5 minutes in the appetizers, the waitress came to tell us that the main dishes were ready and she started to move things in the table, including the unfinished appetizers. She took about 5 minutes after that to bring the main dishes. I ordered Ratatuille, it was Ok. My husband ordered Halibut. Again, the presentation was nice, but the halibut was very dry and it looks like it was cooked on a bed of pepper. The pepper was glued to the bottom of the fish. We did not order dessert, instead I had an expresso that was good. My husband ordered a Martini. The liquid level was low, way lower than a regular Martini. We received a check for $180+ for below average food and questionable service. For that money he have had amazing dinner at first quality restaurants as Log Haven. We won't be back, don't recommend this place either. read more

I had the Coq au vin. No aroma or flavor of any type of wine (Burgundy or otherwise). I didn't taste any mushroom flavor or even garlic (I know garlic is optional). It was just kind of weak chicken "ish" soup. For the price it is a definite skip. read more

I went there a few weeks ago because I drove past it and saw the cool, outside vibe. I was expecting it to be fine dining with superb service, but I got just the opposite. It took around 10 min just to get acknowledged after we got seated. The server dropped the waters off and left without asking any questions like if we were ready to order or letting us know the chefs special. When we did finally order, we were ignored until the food got to our table. Before the food got there, I asked a busser for a drink menu, because our server was nowhere to be found, so I can enjoy it while I eat, but the menu didn't even come until after I was finished. The food was really good and I'm glad I tried it, but I will not be returning just because of poor service. When you spend over 100$ between 2 people, you'd think the manager would at least check in on you to see how your service has been, but he didn't. Disappointing! read more

This place is almost there but not quite. I got the prawn salad which was good but it was really difficult to get a complete bite because the vegetables where not chopped and the shrimp still had the tails attached. The serving size of the soup seemed quite small, but the flavor was there. I think more pastry options would be beneficial, and the service needs a little bit of help. Overall, the food is tasty, however a few tweaks will take this place to 5 stars. read more
