I have been to the Chart Room a few times in the last five years. Before my first trip to Maine in 2021, a colleague recommended this restaurant to me as a must try in the Bar Harbor area and she was not wrong. From my first time here five years ago to 2 weeks ago when I was last here, it has not changed. I came here with my family and dog, and like many places in the area, it is dog friendly when sitting outdoors. Shortly after taking our orders, the appetizers came out quick. The clam chowder, lobster stew and calamari all great choices. I also liked how there was a big portion for appetizers. For the entree, I had the lobster carbonara and the portion was so big I only ate half of it. My son had the Lobster Newberg and he said it was excellent. Overall, the Chart Room is an excellent choice for dinner. The views, food, and service are all worth it. Only comment I had is parking is limited. Besides that, this is a great choice to get food at after hiking at Arcadia. If I come back to Maine, I will absolutely come back here!

The good: Friendly bartender, great location on the water, decent happy hour drink specials The bad: Some staff were not very welcoming, the happy hour menu only includes oysters and house-made potato wedges for food options. The oysters were very small and the potato wedges dry and overcooked. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoying the drinks and atmosphere, though!

I thought this restaurant was in Bar Harbor, but it was a little out of town - great location right on the water with outside seating. The food here was phenomenal - possibly the best meal we had on the island in terms of the flavor of the food itself. I can't say the menu was all that inventive but we all enjoyed our meal and the view. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and the spice level was high - exactly what I wanted. The fries were perfection as well! Great service, very attentive and our order was placed without error. We would definitely go back for dinner because lunch was so tasty. Good space with plenty of seating and beautiful ocean views of course.

I came here because I wanted a nice restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday while on vacation visiting Bar Harbor. It does have a water view and the inside is very nicely decorated. We took a table outdoors to enjoy the view. It took a while for a waitress to come. We were told they changed tables so it did take some time before one finally took our order. But we did get our water and drinks. They do lots of choices on the menu. We started with the clam chowder , which was good. It wasn't very hot but warm and tasty. I ordered a chicken that came with rice and vegetables. But you can change your side to baked potatoe or French fries. I ordered baked potatoe and it comes with butter and sour cream on the side. My daughter ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. I had two chickens that were on the small side but good. Then we ended with an ice cream that the waitress put a candle on. It was cold at this point so we went inside so the candle wouldn't blow before singing Happy Birthday. Then we brought it outside to finish. This place has a small parking lot and it is always crowded. I see they rent cabins on their property as well. It was a good evening and I would come back.

We were able to sit out on the outdoor patio. Beautiful view! We all enjoyed the spinach artichoke appetizer that came with tortilla chips. I ordered the lazy lobster soaked in real butter oozing with garlic!! Incredible. It came with carrots and a baked potato. Wish we were here longer as I'd love to duplicate this meal. Also great service even though they were pretty busy.

One of the places I was able to get a reservation for right before our trip and across from where we stayed. Cute, old school, supper club vibe on the water. It was cool to see the bay at low tide and you can access it from their deck. Lots of outdoor seating but it was chilly so we sat inside. The host put us right by the window which was great! Our server was really nice! Attentive and accurate. We were in and out in 45 minutes which might be bad and might be good depending on what you like. We had the bread (delish) bang bang shrimp (decent), halibut (just ok), Alfredo pasta (good!), kids burger (he said good), and the scallops (decent). I just feel like it was just ok food, my halibut just seemed frozen and not fresh as listed. Everything was ok, but probably won't return.

The Chart Room is in a beautiful location. If the weather allows you should dine outside. The food service and views are wonderful.

    Beautiful view

Loved that the patio is dog friendly since we were traveling with our pup! The waitress was so friendly and even brought our doggo her own water. We had the crab dip, the clam chowder and a Caesar salad!

I'm convinced this is one of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. We wandered in on a random Thursday afternoon to get a very late lunch. It was close to where we were staying, and we noticed it had a deck overlooking the water when we drove by. We had just come into town and were trying to get our bearings for the start of our trip. We were lucky enough to get Missy as our server. She was so incredibly with a big, friendly personality. If you choose to visit, I'd highly recommend you ask to sit in her section. We realized through her conversation with others, that there were several tourist regulars eating around us. She said one couple had been in town for two weeks and visited The Chart Room daily. There was another couple seated next to us that only ordered blueberry pie and coffee, then told their server they'd see him later as they'd be back for dinner time. That really says a lot about how good this restaurant is in my opinion. Obviously, being in Maine we had to try everything blueberry. The blueberry marg recommended by Missy was great! The real stand out though, was the blueberry pie. Truly, my husband and I agree, that it was the best dessert we've ever had. I can absolutely understand why people were returning and ordering just pie. We ended up coming back for dinner one night with the pie being our main motivation for dining here again! The food was also really good. I don't eat seafood and that's the bulk of most restaurant menus in Maine so unfortunately, I can't attest to how good it may have been. My food choices were more "boring", but still good. My salad was huge and tasty! My husband ordered the scallop special and while it was more expensive than he would've liked, he said it ended up being in the top 2 favorite meals he had during our vacation.

I liked the view, cocktails and service. The food was not a good value. If you charge $40 for seafood stew put some seafood in it! No clams or shrimp . Just tiny pieces of white fish and a few mussels and calamari. Sorry I meant to take the a picture. We were so shocked by the amount of food it slipped our minds. Also the toast was stale. On a positive note the broth was tasty. It was the only redeeming quality of this dish.

Very nice staff and efficient service! The oysters and drinks were good. The menu had a little too much fried food for my taste but I was still able to find a good option with the mussels. However, the sauce was a bit bland. There was a great view of the water and sunset even though it was too cold to sit outside

Excellent local place for lunch/dinner. PROs: Our server was Abby, and she was excellent. She had awesome service and professionally juggled multiple tables without missing a beat. We had crab cakes, baked haddock, & lobster Mac. All were amazing. The views and vibes were awesome as well. You can sit either inside or outside. Plenty of full bar options as well for you libations. CONs: Parking is a challenge during peak meal times. Bathrooms could get a slight update.

It has a…read morequiet charm in the dining room that perfectly compliments the town it's in and they serve the best fish and chips in town. As stated above, the fish and chips is the thing to get here. The fish is clearly fresh (not frozen), cooked to order and has an almost unbelievable level of perfect crisp on the batter that coats it. It's also wonderful to see that they're serving it with some fresh-cut fries as there's such an overwhelming improvement in both taste and texture that you get with fresh (never frozen) fries. The fries are also perfectly cooked with a good crisp on the outside, but still fluffy potato in the middle. They then went the extra step and have house-made tartar sauce and slaw to go with it. It's a simple dish in concept, but this place goes the extra mile to make you something that's both delicious and worth coming back for. The dining room is on the smaller side, so if you have a large party it would be a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation to be sure there's a place for your entire group when you get there. I came a little later in the evening (maybe around 7pm) and found it to be pleasantly quiet, though not empty. I was greeted quickly by the owner and seated quickly. I also found the staff to be pleasant and fun to chat with while I waited for my food (I sat at the bar). It's also worth noting they have a full bar and a good choice of local draft beer to choose from.

No. But it's a nice healthy option if you want to lay off the butter and lobster for an evening or just want more veggies in general. I personally wasn't a fan of the customer service. The waitress looked very annoyed with our questions and had to repeat one things to us about an entree. We felt like an inconvenience and when we wanted a side or water, it was very difficult to flag our waitress down. When asking another waitress-- they also appeared annoyed. Potatoes and veggie shareables: The best it can get. You can tell the chef really put his heart into these recipes. I should have just ordered more of this. Pizza: It looks great but lacked so much flavor. It fell apart so quickly, couldn't even hold. The crust was also overly burnt. The pepperoni is "local" but way too spicy for a typical pep. They need a sauce to help cool down the spice-- I'd say ranch-- but maybe the chef can come up with one better. It was one of the worst pizzas I've had. Cocktails: Tasty and refreshing. I wasn't drinking but went with Hop water. Adding a lemon to it helped brighten it up-- surprised that's not offered. A great one time experience!

Once we were seated, our waitress let us know the pizza would also take quite a while. It ended up being another hour before our food arrived. Waiting nearly three hours from arrival to being served is simply unacceptable. From what I could see, there were only about eight staff members working, including the host, bartender, dishwasher, and servers. It was obvious they were overwhelmed and the restaurant was severely understaffed for the number of customers coming in. While I don't blame the employees they were doing the best they could the business clearly wasn't prepared to handle the crowd. It's disappointing because the property has a lot of potential, but poor management, extremely slow service, and inadequate staffing completely overshadowed the experience. Until they can properly staff the restaurant and provide realistic wait times, I can't recommend dining here. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else.
