The Barnacle was such a lovely and fun experience. The servers were amazing, you could truly tell that they loved what they do. They knew all the locals and celebrated all of their customers with the bell they had behind the bar. The pub itself is very quaint and cute with moody lighting. The oysters were unbelievable and the house-made mignonette was delicious, we were literally dipping chips in it. The smoked trout dip was also very tasty. No complaints at all, we had the best time there. Highly recommend!!! read more

Quaint little pub & eatery with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We had their daily selection of oysters on the half shell, and one of the new caviar options. Served with kettle chips and la crema, it was really good. Prices weren't too bad, service was excellent - would visit again. read more

20 stars. Zhanna slinging drinks and oysters must have been an octopus in another life, her hands never stopped moving and yet she was calm, fun, and as hospitable as it comes even with a bar stuffed as full as it could be in the heat of the day. No one wanted for anything. We were truly in awe of her. Fun place with good patrons and a far far better waterin' hole than any other option. Loved our drinks. Stayed at the bar due to limited seating. The bar tender was the only person working the entire front end. She was friendly and efficient. Ordered the local oysters and dip. Food in the Main Street area are all expensive so be prepared for that. read more

These were the best oysters I have ever had in my life!! I really wanted to try this place out when I was planning my trip to Acadia and I am so glad I stopped by. I was here in the summer (August) and although Bar Harbor gets pretty busy during this time, there was little to no wait when I came around 4pm. The bar is quite charming, nothing fancy but feels very welcoming. The oysters were so sweet and fresh, and the mignonette was soo darn good! BEST MIGNONETTE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY!!!!! I would bathe in this mignonette Ohhhhh man, you knew I'd be back! This bar has such a great vibe! No bs just straight to the point! Stopped in for our anniversary from wayyyy downeast, we had the swan island oysters and they were spectacular. The bartender was so amazing! She was so cool and super knowledgeable about where to grab some oysters to bring back home! I absolutely love this place! I will continue coming back for many many years! So much fun, and a rare non-tourist spot in a bustling vacation town! We visited in the evening after sunset on Cadillac, and we enjoyed a lovely spread of Oysters and apps (plus tasty drinks). I had a dirty martini, my husband had a negroni (both perfectly made), and we loved our food. The mackerel dip is amazing, and the oysters are fresh and fantastic. They are participants of the Maine Oyster Trail, so make sure to log your visit! Very casual and friendly service across the board. This is not a restaurant, but it is a great bar. The bartender was informative and helped direct us to the food or drinks that best suited us. The place was relaxing and definitely was craving more oysters after trying their house mignonette with the half dozen we ordered. Also the kombucha was delicious. Outstanding oysters and even better service. Oysters are a little more expensive but, the bartender explained they are the best of the best. He wasn't kidding! Best we had on our Maine travels. We were hesitant about the wine on tap but, it turned out to be a really good match for the oysters. It's small and gets crowded but, worth waiting for a seat at the bar. read more

Came here on 11/16 which I guess was their off season. We came mostly to try their oysters, but unfortunately, during off-season their kitchen is closed and they're really only a bar. We still ended up sitting down and grabbing two drinks while we were there. They had one bartender which was fine since they weren't too busy anyway she was really sweet and kept in conversation with us the whole time we were there. The place is rather small, but I imagine during peak season that this place could get really busy . read more

Waited outside while they opened and there was already a line of people waiting so I thought this was going to be good and I was not disappointed. This place is small but cozy with vibrant food and spaces. The menu is limited but oh boy the food is great so that proves you don't need a big menu to get good food. Today we had the oysters and the Manchego panini, everything was so tasty, fresh and well presented. The host/bartender/waitress is very friendly and upbeat. DISTURBING EXPERIENCE. We came here while in town for a friend's wedding and were shocked by how we were treated. The bartender was hostile and yelled at us from the moment we walked in. The situation escalated when a staff member snatched my drink out of my hand very aggressively which also caused her (whether on purpose or not) to ash her cigarette into my hair. She then went on to kick all of us out including the groom on his wedding eve out of the bar. If you're looking for a safe, enjoyable night out, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. This was one of the most hostile and unprofessional experiences I've ever had at a bar. read more

We stopped in for cocktails and tried the oysters recommended by the bartender -- and they ended up being the best oysters we had on our entire Bar Harbor food tour. I'd give 6 stars if I could!!! The ambiance was fabulous. Felt like I was in a hole in the wall bar in the middle of Bar Harbor. They're open later than many restaurants in town and have a limited menu but the best oysters I've ever had. The vinaigrette sauce they were served with was top tier. They purchase from island-based oyster farms in Bar Harbor and buy fresh every day. I'd go back 100x over! read more

Fresh oysters with AMAZING, non-traditional mignonette that rocked our socks off! We truly could have easily each eaten a dozen on our own and been very happy! He had never had a New England oyster, and he was stunned at how delicious it was! I have had my share of fresh oysters, and these were TASTY! Zana, the bartender, was so kind and works with such calm energy while she keeps up a full bar in a very timely manner! She is kind and impressive! We both HIGHLY recommend! It is a narrow bar, but if you get the front window or a bar seat, there is room for your oyster plate! A small ledge along the wall is available with seating, and that is good for ordering drinks. A few larger tables create a cool environment in the back of the room! The restrooms are clean, and there is a sweet metal spiral staircase going down in the very back of the restaurant (for workers, I presume). ENJOY your experience there! Warmly. read more

I asked the folks in the service industry what are some of their 'go to' joints and The Barnacle consistently made their list. That's good enough for me. Absolutely the best oysters I have ever had! Huge high fives to the oyster shucker, absolute perfection. Smaller place, but if you can get a seat grab it. Very good cocktails too, but the oysters are the star. Stopped in for an appetizer and cocktail prior to dinner! Bartender was the only one for all tables/bar seats...so service was a little slow as expected. Cocktail and beer we ordered were both delicious! We ordered a pretzel to snack on while we waited for our dinner reservation and it was very lack luster. Was very dry...no butter or anything. All the salt didn't stick to the pretzel and was at the bottom of the pan. And it took SO long for us to get the pretzel (roughly an hour or so). I would probably come back for drinks and maybe oysters (when I can afford them lol)! read more

This was the most "normal" feeling bar we could find in Bar Harbor, aka not as much of a tourist-trap, and they had a nice selection of beer on tap as well as cocktails. We got some oysters and a pretzel - the pretzel was fantastic, I don't know how they make the cheese sauce, but I could have easily eaten two of them! The bartender confidently told us these were the best oysters around - they were probably the second best oysters we had in Maine, but they were by far the most expensive. It was a sticker shock compared to all of the other spots we tried in Maine which was surprising since it's more of a bar - probably taking advantage of tourists wanting to try an oyster for the first time. There's no escaping the Bar Harbor tourist mania, but it's one of the better scenes in town. read more

If I lived in Bar Harbor, I'd be a regular here. Good draft beer and wine on tap selections. It's got a good vibe and the bartender was aware of anyone needing anything - despite being the hardest working bartender I've ever seen. We were sitting at the bar when another patron spoke with the bartender and complimented him on his service and professionalism. The bartender is a great source for local restaurant recommendations too. Also a full liquor bar. While we didn't order food, the bartender was very excited about their local oysters. They seemed to sell a lot of them. We'll be back next time we're in Bar Harbor. read more

Our server was all over the place, at one point serving half my table drinks while leaving the rest of the drinks on the side and walking to another set of tables to take their order and get their check. While I completely understand the struggles of being understaffed, it was very odd to have someone leave midway through several times. This behavior continued when we tried to order food as well. The food was subpar, and there weren't many items on the menu that didn't feel heavily fried. I will say the nachos were my favorite as they felt the most flavorful, but everything else we ordered met my pub food expectations.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The service here is the worst I've had in my entire life. I've never been so taken aback by unprovoked rudeness in my life. The woman that works here is the human embodiment of misery and aggression. She needs to be medicated before SERVING the general public ever again. Experiences like this make me never want to return to Bar Harbor ever again. I'm beyond disappointed and disgusted. Don't work in hospitality or service if you have the decorum of a barn animal. Our cocktails, the Grand Royale, a gin based cocktail with champagne, and the black and blue Manhattan, both $15, tasted ok. Nothing special or unique than what we could mix ourselves at home. We ordered for appetizers the sea scallops and the beets and carrots special. It took about 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. The sea scallops were the best executed dish of the evening, perfectly seared, crisp bacon. The beets and carrots tasted like prepackaged beets and some fresh carrots sandwiched in between. It was bland and missing a creamy element like a cheese, disappointing for $14. For dinners, we ordered two halibut entrees, a stapler chicken special, and buttered orechiette. We arrived at 5 pm, ordered shortly thereafter, and our entrees didn't arrive until 6:20pm. Our kids were both complaining about slowness and were starving. The tables around us made comments like, well, at least we don't have anywhere we need to be... There was zero apology for the wait, as if this was normal. Overall, we were so disappointed with how long the food took. It all tasted fine, overcooked, not great. I felt like they were trying hard to be more upscale dining, charging upscale prices which I don't mind paying, but missed the mark.
