After spending summers here for many years, and driving by this restaurant many times, we decided to give it a try, after all, the parking lot is always jammed, and the Yelp reviews aren't all mediocre. Unfortunately, it was less than we expected. I think that the best thing about this place is the great setting and the very friendly wait staff. The food was very disappointing, almost cafeteria quality. My husband and I both ordered the char broiled halibut, with wild rice and asparagus. Everything was overcooked and flavorless. The fish was dry, the asparagus water filled and the rice was barely eatable. Because the food came out so quickly, I almost wonder if it was pre-cooked and just reheated prior to service. The restaurant was packed. Perhaps this is the way they are able to serve so many. Not a valid excuse. At the healthy prices they charge, we really expected more. read more

The atmosphere and our waitress Val made this a new favorite spot in Bar Harbor. Views were great, staff was friendly, and service was quick. The macadamia nut fish was 10/10 and so was the prime rib. The appetizers were surprisingly hit or miss. Loved the bang bang shrimp though. Would definitely recommend and go again. I am blown away. My girlfriend and I were on a hunt for the best lobster around, with other food options as well. She is picky with what she likes, so choosing the right restaurant is crucial. I was skating on thin ice choosing a seafood restaurant as it was... the previous night's dinner was a little iffy. We decided not to make a reservation, which is risky in these trying times. However, the moment I walked in to see what the wait would be like, the hostess was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. She gave me multiple options of tables for us to choose from. It was cool out so we decided to eat downstairs in the screened in patio. The view was wonderful & the table was comfortable. I felt at home. Our server was Chelsea, an absolute gem of a human being. She was funny & kind, helping my indecisive mind choose what I wanted for dinner. She recommended an excellent IPA and an EXCELLENT soda for my girlfriend (who would have known that "Sierra Mist" would taste so delicious!?). I ordered the lobster. My girl ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo. I ordered the Clam Chowder. She ordered the French Onion Soup. It was like the scene in Ratatouille when Remie eats the cheese and grapes together & sees fireworks in his mind. The lobster MUST have been high because it tasted WONDERFUL!! Save your time and money. The hostess couldn't have been ruder. She was rude to the lady before me and then to me. She told me it would be 45 minutes for my husband and myself and our small service dog to get a table on the patio. After an hour and 15 minutes we checked because couples with dogs were being seated who came after us. She said she personally called our name 2 or 3 times. My husband called her out on it, telling her we watched from their seating area every time they called for people. A flat lie. Turns out they turned the page on their wait list and forgot about us. Promised us to be next. They continued to seat people after us. When approached, the girl with the tattoos all over her body told us she called us 3 times that our table was ready. We were sitting on one of the benches by the door the whole time I told her. She lied right to my face. After exactly 8:45pm, 1 1/2 hours later, we were finally seated. They had just ran out of what we wanted to order. So our alternative order was good and our waitress, Hanna was very sweet. However we will never come back because of the other staff. read more

We had a wonderful waitress named Julia who was not only super nice but was well informed about all the items on the menu, was able to make good recommendations and checked in on us often even though the restaurant was busy. The inside very nice, roomy lots of windows looking out over the cove (outdoor seating also available) For starters a side salad, crisp lettuce with vegetables to go with. Great! Service is great! The food is good, but we didn't find it to be anything spectacular. My husband had the special, scampi. It was not great, and was a small portion. I had shrimp and clams, again small portion but my meal was better than the scampi, the shrimp and clams were fresh. We went here because the reviews were so good, but I was not that impressed. We just ate lunch here- myself, husband, and 3 boys ages 6, 5, and 1. The food was out of this world. Highly recommend the Bang Bang Shrimp and the lobster stew! The fried haddock was amazing, as well! We were so pleased to know all was locally caught, as this was part of the reason we were drawn to the area. A true Maine seafood experience. The blueberries all fresh from Maine, as well in the delicious blueberry pie, blueberry cocktails, and blueberry ice cream! Yum! The most important part that solidified this 5 star rating was the outstanding service. We had Sarah as our waitress. She was so kind and patient with my overly talkative crew who wanted to chat forever. Our orders were all correct and quickly put in. She recommended the perfect food for us. We dined here and had a good meal. I had fried halibut, french fries and a side salad, my husband had the 1.25 lobster special, both had very fresh seafood. My garden salad was made just the way I like it, very tasty and fresh. The one downer was the lobster special didn't include two sides, so Bob didn't get any potato and the waitress never asked until too late. But I had too much halibut and Bob got to eat some of that and we both tried the blueberry pie and it was wonderful. I also tried Atlantic Brewing Company's (the local brewer) blueberry ale--it had a taste of blueberries and a bitter aftertaste to make up for the little bit sweet the blueberries added. I liked it, it was a little like Red Hook. Bob liked his Stella Artois on tap. Service was really good, we were seated immediately, our orders taken quickly and the food delivered up quickly. Bathrooms were fresh and clean. The Chart Room is on the waterfront and even seats away from the windows have wonderful views. read more

Asked for a extra lobster roll for our troubles of having to make another trip and messing up our family dinner. His answer was that's a $28 meal. When you factor in the actual food cost it was almost half of the tip I left from the 1st time I picked up the food. So the other night I had a truly awful dinner in Camden. Add a lobster roll our first day that was a sad memory of its former glory, and I was not optimistic. We were leaving Acadia yesterday and The center of Bar Harbor was mobbed- couldn't even find a parking space. We started back on the 2 hour drive to Camden. Stopping here, the parking lot was mobbed- I wasn't hopeful about getting a table tbh. The hostess told us 15 minutes. It was 8. (And they let you wait outside by the picnic tables). In the hour it took to even get food at the Camden restaurant, we had soup, entrees, dessert, check paid, and back in the car. The French onion was excellent. Lobster stew was delicious, but be aware it is not a bisque (not as thick). I am betting their chowder would be excellent as well. Two of our group got burgers and one a chicken Caesar (I know, I know... why burger at a seafood place?) Those burgers were amazing!! Perfect medium rare, great tasting fresh beef, good rolls, great fries. Caesar was not outstanding, but plenty of good chicken breast and good salad. A good choice if you are wanting a salad. The fried clam strips, though. These were epic. Calling them strips frankly does them an injustice- there were bellies galore. They were fresh battered, and melted in my mouth. I didn't realize that was a thing that clam strips do. Came with asparagus and I got a baked potato. Next time I would opt for fries and an extra side of tartar sauce. My only regret is not getting the combo fried plate, because I will be haunted wondering about the fried sea scallops. We got blueberry pie and the lemon cheesecake for dessert- two were plenty for a table of four. Pie obviously fresh made, with the tiny Maine blueberries. Cheesecake had raspberry in it, great shortbread crust as well. The service was eerily quick and excellent. Never had to ask for more water, everything came out in the proper order and with great timing. This had the feel of a military operation. Parking in front, and across the street. Don't judge by how full- the lots were packed when we got there. Was a way better choice that trying for something in the logistical nightmare of downtown bar harbor, especially if you are not staying directly in downtown. read more

My wife got the prime rib was just average and I got crab cakes as a app was not good and for dinner had the stuffed lobster with crab meat. I couldn't find the the lobster or the crab. It was covered in some sauce with no flavor the meal was not good! For dessert we shared blueberry crisp with No crisp and peanut butter pie that was frozen solid so both were not good! The good: nice waitress, good chowder, fast pre-prepared food.  The bad: low quality, over-priced, and they need a chef!  The chart room has more bad than good for us because it prioritizes speed over quality.  When on vacation, I wanted excellent food and a great experience, but I found the Chart Room lacking in nearly everything from outdoor lighting (there was none) to portion sizes. The food is pre-prepared and over-priced for the quality.  Additionally, the portion of the seafood medley entree was an appetizer disguised as an entree.  It only had two scallops, two shrimp, and a very small piece of fish.  It says it was haddock, but it was covered in a salty cheese sauce that made the fish imperceptible. There were actually more french fries than seafood on the platter and the four pieces of asparagus that accompanied the "entree" were boiled or microwaved, all of which suggests that the owner is more interested in profits than making great food.  The meal was meh, and I spoke with the manager and he only said "sorry," but did not try to remedy anything.  You could tell he was not being honest when he said he has served 40,000 seafood medleys and only had two complaints.  The manager/owner confirmed what I felt, which was that they just wanted to close up the kitchen and go home, and the "experience" reflected that.  Also, I would not get the lobster.  This place badly needs a chef who cares about the quality, and not serving 400 people per evening.  Too bad that this is all you get for $100+ dining now. read more

We rented a cabin nearby for our anniversary. Without looking at the reviews, we'd chosen the Chartroom as the place where we would have our dinner. It's hard to destroy a steamed crustacean so that was a decent fare but I'm a steak and potatoes guy so I ordered the prime rib which is "certified black angus". Needless to say, I'm certain this restaurant isn't known for it's steak. Perhaps, as my Wife stated, I may be spoiled by sous vide which is how my elder Brother and I prepare ours. Tough, gristled and poor in quality (virtually no marbling) the steak was flavorless and the aus jous tasted watered down. According to my Wife, the Chatroom is good with their seafoods (she had rice rather than a baked potato as I chose) which resulted in a great meal for her. My baked potato, about 2/3rds the size of a hardball was overcooked. They did provide ample portions of butter and sour cream for a normal sized potato though. Was I impressed? For her, yes. Would I recommend eating here? The service is exemplary, the ambiance is too but, unless you're having seafood and have the finances to support a $100+ dinner tab, I would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

The hotel we were staying at recommended this place but honestly the only nice thing was the view outside, which there are nicer waterfronts on Main St. We ordered crab cakes, lobster stew, French onion soup, and two lobster dinners. The lobsters were super chewy, maybe overcooked around 1 lb was the biggest they had. Our waiter checked on us only after we were done eating, so I could not ask for extra lemon or butter. Overall mediocre experience. I think most people would go for other entrees but not for lobster. read more

We ate here many times during our vacation and loved it. The staff are super nice and the food tasty. They also have a pier where you can explore the bay when the tide recedes. Check out their lobster roll, halibut, clam chowder, and of course blueberry pie! They also have a kids menu. Plenty of outdoor seating - a plus during these crazy times. read more
