Popped in here for a light bite after a rousing game of mini golf. First - the view from the deck here is hard to beat. And it's so much more peaceful than the hub bin of the Harbor down the road. And - they've added seats lining the dock. Very cool! Mom and I ordered the haddock bites (which had a fancy French name I don't recall) which came with chipotle mayo and pineapple salsa. The haddock was perfectly cooked and the light breading was on point. The combo of the dips was amazing too. My Dad got the whole belly clam app - he said they were great - no grit and the tartar sauce had a good kick! As always - I asked to see the dessert menu, just to look. But wow - it was loaded with so many of my favorites. We went with a cheesecake (raspberry today) and a peanut butter pie. I didn't try the pie - but my cheesecake was top notch! Silky, light and delicious! And the raspberry sauce was very good!! Lastly - I had a blueberry mojito that was delicious. Mom had a blueberry lemonade mock tail and was very happy. Three part review. 1 star for the host who was RUDE. It's wild he works in the service industry. He must be a peach when it's actually busy. I still don't know why we stayed but the kids were hungry and we needed to just eat. With an empty restaurant behind him, the host replied "Eight!? I can't seat eight without a reservation!" To which we replied, "Can you check and see?" (It was 4:45pm, we thought we would catch happy hour oysters and drinks but) "no kids on the pier!" (There were kids out there but whatever). We get seated a few minutes later. 3 for food mediocrity. Nothing special. Really we were kind of silent after being scolded upon entry. (Full price) oysters we tiny. Food came out REAL FAST for a place with such a huge menu, which made us wonder if the salmon was cooked or warmed up...oh yeah it wasn't busy!5 for the service. Our waitress was wonderful. Came here for happy hour and the oysters were so good and fresh! They were also only $2/each! The blueberry lemonade was made with fresh blueberry syrup and blueberries as garnish, also very yummy. The staff was a little slow at the bar but very nice! The restaurant has a deck overlooking the ocean and I would definitely come back here for dinner! read more

We visited the Chart Room a few times our second visit to the area. Honestly, the service and food are still great. So the reason for the new review is that while the management and the servers care a lot about allergens, the kitchen doesn't seem to care. If it comes out wrong the first time, it'll likely come out wrong the second and the third time. If the management and kitchen could get on the same page about allergens, it would be great. And if you don't have any allergies, it's a great place with great food and a wonderful view. read more

For a final dinner in the area we sought out a restaurant with great lobster for a member of our group. We found the Chart Room because we all wanted to enjoy a lovely patio. What a meal we all had in a lovely setting. Our party of four ordered two risottos and a shrimp linguine as well as the lobster. The lobster was delicious and velvety soft. The risotto was creamy with just the right touch of corn that added sweetness. The linguine was perfectly cooked with an ambitious amount of shrimp. The portions were ample for all of us. The highlight of the evening was our server Missy. She was a delight. She was charming, funny and knowledgeable about the food and how it was prepared. Her service was beyond first-rate. Her fellow server, Val, was also fun and sharp as a tack and to say we were well taken care of is an understatement. The highlight of the evening was when Missy de-shelled the lobster. She shucked with impressive speed and accuracy all the while narrating what she was doing and why. Anyone seeking lobster but not knowledgeable about how to shuck it would be well taken care of by Missy. The chart room was terrific , definitely sit upstairs, the downstairs does not have the same decor or ambiance (bad vibes). Andy our server was great, very attentive, my water was always full. I don't know how this place got 4 stars. What!! Andy our server was excellent no problem with him. He did an excellent job bringing out the bad food. The only thing good was the bang bang shrimp. The crab cake starters were all bread, no crab to be seen. Maybe a crab ran through it! Then I asked if the stuffing in the Haddock was the same as the crab cake , he said no. But when my Baked Haddock came it was dry and the filling was the same as the crab cake, not as described, no crab to be seen . The other table mates were also disappointed with their food . I want to give them a higher score but here's the deal: the management, cares. The wait staff, cares. The kitchen does not. What does this mean: it means that if your food comes out wrong, it will stay wrong until management watches the kitchen remake your food on attempt 3. This especially applies to food allergies. We've eaten here a few times, and while the management is really trying hard, the kitchen just does not care. The end result is tasty food, that comes out wrong and takes multiple tries to correct which leads other food to go cold. The French onion soup is delicious, the lobster comes shelled (mostly) and drenched in butter, the crab dip is amazing, the blueberry ice cream is amazing! I do have to say if you have patience, the view is outstanding, to sit on the pier at high tide while eating is a lovely meal! read more

I think they are able to stay in business because of their location. There are many, many good restaurants in town. I recommend going somewhere else. Granted we come from a fresh fish area.... But this meal was unimpressive at best. The fried clams were pricey for the amount and a little over breaded and greasy. Halibut crust was great but fish was small and just sub par for $39 and no salad, no bread. Chopped rubbery carrots as the roasted vegetables and the wild rice was chewy. We are used to small portions at gourmet restaurants but this was not the case. Scallops looked grey and seemingly boiled. Everything came out in like a cafeteria style dinner plate reminiscent of a meal you would receive at a convalescent home. $160 meal would have given an extra star if they didn't place us in the downstairs, heated porch instead of the empty and beautiful indoor restaurant area that at least had a view. Amazing view right by the water, as it was chilly on the Memorial Day, we decided to sit at the heated patio. Fast service we had half dozen oysters, crab cakes as well as the sword fish, fish stew and Mac n cheese. The oysters were ok, crab cake was a bit burnt and the fish stew cioppino though had generous amounts of seafood including scallops did miss the mark unfortunately. Recently visited Maine and stopped in this restaurant with friends who live on the island. I had just recently had a lobster roll in Eastport Maine and it was phenomenal! The one at this restaurant was not so good. I'm not even sure it was lobster? Could've been crab, not sure anyway wouldn't do it again. My husband's burger was fabulous and so were our friends' fish taco dinners. I guess I ordered the wrong thing. The ambience was lovely although there was a very steep outside entryway to the deck overlooking the water. Definitely not for a wheelchair or someone with a walker or a cane. 3.5 stars We came here last Thursday for dinner. There really was no wait for a seat, even though the restaurant was somewhat full. Our waitress was friendly. My dad got the fried halibut plate for $21.95 with the vegetable of the day (asparagus) and a baked potato as another side. I got the lobster roll (market price at $31.95 and slightly more than other lobster rolls in town). It was a cold roll with a little mayo- I had to add a little butter to it, as the flavor wasn't incredibly strong (probably would've preferred a hot roll instead). The broth for the mussels was great, the lobster was average for the area, and the clams (generally all Maine clams) were a bit tough and briney, with a bigger muscle than normal (kind of chewy, takes up half the clam). Would recommend trying your hand in Bay Harbor proper instead, where there are lots more options within walking distance from each other. If you have a car, the Southwest Harbor and Tremont areas have far better lobster. read more

So to the consumables. Beer 5/10 Decent beer selection but it wasn't very cold coming from the draft so kinda ruined. clam chowder 7/10 initially I was nervous as the smell kind of reminded me of canned like Campbells. I was pleasantly surprised though as the taste, consistency and level of clams and veggies to broth was great. Fish tacos 8/10. Simple and Americanized as you can get but they were crispy and delicious. Could have used a touch more sauce. Fish sandwich 8/10. Crispy, well cooked and delicious. Fries were really good too.
