My husband and I both ordered different flavors of old fashion cocktails but the server got them mixed up, not a big deal. The food was good but for the price, we were expecting exceptional. My favorite part of the meal were the crab cakes. The fisherman's stew was good also. Friend (a local) told me about this spot. They don't take reservations they said and promptly seated us in their outdoor space overlooking the water. The view is gorgeous and quite peaceful. Service is super fast. They have a variety of wines (and beers and cocktails). I chose the one that said would go well with lobster. I ordered the lobster stew which came in a small cup and had lobster pieces in it. It was decent but idk if 9.95 was the right price, especially considering everything else is so so reasonable priced. I also had the macadamia crusted haddock with the lobster sherry sauce. They don't swap rice or potatoes with salad they said but did give me asparagus. Big piece of fish and nicely done. My partner's seafood pasta was very nice and had a grandma sort of taste to it :) His clam chowder was exceptional though. If I could go back I'd rather order the chowder instead of my stew. Overall, the food has a homemade feel to it. The view is amazing. I would definitely give this place a chance if you're visiting. read more

We recently enjoyed two very good dinners here while staying down the road for a few days in the Acadia National Park area. We had seen their sign that they served lobster dinners and fried clams, but it looked like they were only open til 6 pm and we were never done in the park til after 7. But after a fruitless search in Bar Harbor for fried clams with the bellies on, we decided to eat an early dinner and try this place before 6. We interrupted our hiking to have dinner at 5 pm, figuring it's summer and we could hike again after. We were easily seated at that hour and chose an outside table with a view of Hulls Cove, which was at low tide. The menu is pretty extensive with all the typical fried options - clams with bellies, shrimp, scallops and local fish - plus a variety of lobster dishes, surf and turf, steaks, burgers, salads and pasta. And, they serve well past 6 pm...though I still maintain the sign out front is misleading. On that first visit I had the fried clam dinner which comes with choice of side (baked potato, fries (which I chose) or rice) and the seasonal veg, which was asparagus. The clams were perfection - tender, lightly battered, a good portion (way more than a dozen), not gritty or greasy and served with a good size quarter cup of house-made tartar sauce; the fries were fresh cut with skin on and crispy, served with ketchup (and I asked for malt vinegar which they brought out on a small cup). The asparagus was cooked perfectly - crisp tender - and there were 4 spears. It was a big plate and very satisfying. My hubby had the prime rib special and described it as 'fantastic'. He ordered it medium and it was exactly as expected. He went with fries and then also got the same veg/asparagus. Also a great portion (he got the 10 ounce piece) and he was super happy. The meal was so good, we decided to return again for our final dinner before heading home. I had the clams again but with a baked potato (served with generous portions of both butter and sour cream), and I started with a cup of clam chowder which had all the flavor but was mostly potato (versus clam). My hubby had the lazy man's baked stuffed lobster - a whole lobster de-shelled, stuffed with crab and bread crumb stuffing, smothered in their lobster newburg sauce, baked (so rich and decadent) served with asparagus and side, and he also got a baked potato. Though the menu says the portion of lobster is 'only 1/4 pound', it was definitely a whole lobster - both claws and tail - and, I'll say it again, totally rich and decadent. On both visits we were served by Jared, who was friendly, efficient, knowledgable, and attentive. Some notes about dining during covid: - all diners must wear masks to enter the restaurant, and then whenever moving around to use the bathrooms, etc - when seated/eating masks are not necessary - servers are wearing masks - there are bottles of hand sanitizer all over for customers to use - tables are well spaced to maintain social distancing - if you don't want to dine in, curbside pickup/take out is available Some other notes: this place may seem a little dated and touristic with it's location right on the edge of HullsCove and the wooden tables and chairs, but the food is fresh, service is great, there are many menu options, and we found their pricing to be in line with all the other 'finer dining' places in Bar Harbor, though with The Chart Room you also get the view! read more

The service was attentive but when he cleared the plates he never noticed there was 3/4 of the food not eaten Maybe because that is the norm. Great but small portions! Staff was lovely but the take out order of 2 clam chowders was obnoxious. They should be ashamed to serve such a small portion of soup - about 6 oz - an 8 oz container filled 3/4. My young kids finished it off in minutes and wanted to know where the rest was. The chowder was tasty and we did get oyster crackers but $7.50 each was completely overpriced. Even the West Street Café gave a HUGE portion of clam chowder for the same price. the food was the worst I think ive ever had. I never write bad reviews but I thought i had to share this because it was that bad. The main courses were terrible. The lobster mac and cheese was mushy and overcooked. the cheese tasted like velveta and the lobster was either frozen or they used dead lobsters because the lobster was mealy and mushy. My husband is a lobster fisherman so i know my lobster meat. They only put lobster on the very top of the overcooked pasta . which overcooked the lobster even more. causing it to literally mush apart when trying to pick it up with a fork. The Lobster was honestly not even edible. my daughter got the seafood scampi and that was soooo strong of wine it tasted like vinegar and the shrimp were rotten. My daughter ended up getting sick when she got home. overall terrible food . used to be good but they must have switched cooks or owners. read more

Came in after a long, wet day hiking in Acadia and were looking for an Alagash White aka "best beer in Maine". There are picturesque views from the outdoor dining area, which gave us a relaxing setting to watch the sun set over the water. There are three dining areas: upstairs, downstairs, and outside. I would recommend either sitting upstairs or outside if you can! The downstairs felt a bit like a dining hall, and the other areas are nicer. We started the night with cocktails, oysters, and mussels. The oysters were wonderful and fresh (although difficult to mess up). We were BIG fans of the mussels. They are served in a butter sauce filled with garlic and herbs which heightened the flavor. The butter sauce was so delicious, we even used it to dip our entrees in! I ordered the shrimp, rice, and vegetables which were very flavorful. I would order it again! The lobster roll was a bit disappointing. We found it to be a bit soggy. Overall, I think the 3.5/5 star review for this restaurant is accurate. I would go back, but it is a bit underwhelming - specifically for the price. read more

We were really hoping to enjoy a nice dinner. Unfortunately this was not a good experience. First, while Happy Hour is from 4-6, it's only at the bar or on the dock. They would not let me order a cocktail at the bar and then sit at a table. The difference is $4 off their $14 cocktails. Then we ordered the cheesy spinach and artichoke dip which was good, except the chips, which were stale. We told our waitress just so they wouldn't serve them to anyone else. Nothing was done to remedy the issue for us. We ordered the halibut for dinner and the flavor was good, not great, but it was raw. Overall we are disappointed with the food and service. We should note that they removed the halibut from our bill. The setting is pleasant but with the food quality issues we will not return. read more

Where do I start.... My wife initially had a feeling we should leave since it was 100 degrees inside. Unfortunately our party were hungry and we didn't go with her gut. Let's start with the good, appetizers: oysters and mussels were good and hard to go wrong with Atlantic Blueberry Ale. Long wait in the sweltering heat. Other patrons opening the front door for relief...asking if can keep open but either there is an archaic Maine law or just moronism that mgt said was not possible. So only occasionally would we get a nice breeze when people were leaving. I think I may have lost a couple pounds before meal. Main courses: Swordfish = over cooked and a little burnt; high hopes for cioppino x 2 based on price was okay not great...and had to pay more for more dipping bread...really?!? Shrimp Scampi x 2 - pasta overcooked and had no taste. For $285 I would have thought it would be a lot better. At the end main concern was flagging down the waitress (she was nice and only reason not given only one star) to get out and get some cooler air and hope we didn't get sick from the food. read more

The breading fell off the instant I picked it up and it was extremely wet. The fish also didn't have any seasoning, hot sauce was needed to give it any semblance of seasoning. Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Chart Room. We know that Bar Harbor is closing many of their establishments along with a high volume of hungry tourists & lack of employees so we got there by 4:30. It was unseasonably warm so we sat on the back deck overlooking the harbor. We went all out with our dinner since we are touring from Wisconsin. I ordered the crusted halibut, asparagus & whole grain rice with my husband getting the 2lb lobster & potatoe wedges. Both choices were locally caught seafood that were both pleasantly presented & very tasty & satisfying. My husband also got a signature cocktail & I got a local brewed blueberry beer. To top it all off my husband got their tasty peanut butter cheesecake & I got their chocolate molten lava cake with ice cream & whip cream. Have to update my review. Went back this year with a couple friends. The food was HORRIBLE!!!!! It wasn't even just an "off night" type of deal. Or that we ordered the wrong thing. Every single one of our plates looked like absolute dog food. There wasn't a single edible item on any of our plates. We each finished our night with almost completely untouched meals. And the server didn't even question if like he was used to seeing that. I had just got done raving to my friends about how great it was here when I tried it two years ago. I was so embarrassed to go back. And spend over $200 on an inedible experience. The fact that the big guy at the host stand (which the server told us was the GM? What a joke) spent all his time flirting with the hostess so we had to wait twenty minutes after being seated just to get a water from anybody was a second nail in the side. But that food was easily the worst food I have EVER had served at a restaurant EVER. Does anyone even look at the plates before they leave the kitchen? read more

We loved it here, we came twice during our stay. It's only a couple miles outside of town. The scallop and shrimp pasta was my favorite! Really decent portion sizes and everything we had tasted great. The strawberry butter with the rolls was unique and tasty. If you don't make a reservation, you'll have to sit in the more casual section down below (which wasn't bad though!). But the ambiance and view from the upstairs dining room was more amazing. We also got crabcakes but they were over cooked and cold and we're not good, we felt they were microwaved many times. Let me start by saying, I never write reviews, but this needed one. I ordered the hanger steak which is described as an 8 oz steak cooked to your liking, served cut on a bias. No mention of sauce. I was served extremely chewy meat that was in chunks similar to a steak tip (which are on the menu), definitely not sliced, and it was covered in a sauce that tasted like a sweet and sour. My waiter never came back to check on us for me to ask about it so I ended up eating most of it as I was hungry after a 6 hour car ride. When a different waitress came to clear the plates I mentioned that it wasn't what the menu described and it seemed like steak tips. I wasn't looking for it to be comped or anything as I ate it, but I wanted some acknowledgement that yeah that's not a hanger steak. She argued it was the hanger, but when I pointed out the sauce she said oh yeah that's weird. Then said well I can't really tell how it was cut since I didn't see the other pieces, and then said well did you like it? I said no, I didn't, it was very chewy and covered in sauce I didn't want. Also you can tell how it was cut as all sides are charred and cooked which would not happen if a piece of meat was sliced. After I responded I didn't actually like it, she said well I can bring you a dessert. Which I declined. I didn't want anything else. Our crab cakes appetizer was also served lukewarm at best and was mushy. The view is fantastic and our host James was lovely and accommodating. That is the only good I have to say about this experience. Way overpriced for that level of service and crappy food. I get it's a tourist destination and towards the end of the night you may run out of things, but just say that. Don't swap it and not acknowledge it. Definitely do not recommend read more
