I have to admit: the food here was delicious, and I love the idea of a daily prix fixe menu, but my experience at Ad Hoc was slightly underwhelming. The menu for my visit was akin to something that a nutritionist might suggest for a gym bro. The appetizer was veggie crudites (which were fresh and delicious). The entree was chicken breast with spinach... There was a light charcuterie board and chocolate mousse to follow. Maybe we were a little unlucky with the date that we chose, but I definitely felt a little jealous seeing the other photos posted on Yelp. We made a reservation in advance, so there was really no way to determine what the menu would be. tl;dr: This is a great restaurant if you love a little gamble!

Buttermilk Fried Chicken & flat iron steak with tarragon sauce

Prix fixe menus can be a hit or miss, so we were especially excited when we saw it was fried chicken day at Ad Hoc. From the first course to dessert, the meal was thoughtful, comforting, and beautifully executed. The green goddess salad was an incredible starter. The fried shallots really stood out, adding both texture and flavor, while the creamy dressing complemented the fresh ingredients perfectly. It was one of those dishes that immediately makes you want to try recreating it at home, even though you know it probably won't quite match the original. The fried chicken lived up to its reputation. It was crunchy, juicy, and perfectly crispy. While I would have loved a little more heat or seasoning, I suspect a side of hot sauce would have solved that. Unfortunately, we were rushing to make a wine tasting reservation and didn't think to ask. The steak was cooked well and had great texture, though the tarragon wasn't quite to our taste. That's purely a personal preference, as the dish itself was prepared beautifully. To finish, we enjoyed the peach crisp cobbler, which was absolutely delicious and the perfect dessert for a summer day in Napa. Warm, comforting, and packed with flavor, it was a wonderful ending to the meal. Overall, Ad Hoc delivered exactly what we hoped for: elevated comfort food in a relaxed setting. The thoughtful execution of each course made for a memorable dining experience.

Dining at Ad Hoc can be a bit of a gamble if you're a picky eater. Their menu changes daily, but I've recently learned that they have off-menu fish and vegetarian options for their entree! You can view their daily menus on their website, or by registering for their daily newsletter. Reservations don't hurt, but there were plenty of walk-ins available when we arrived on a Saturday morning. The daily add-on options usually come in fairly large portions. It might be hard if you're just 2 people. I've heard rave reviews about the french onion and kettle chips and couldn't resist. It was totally worth it but the plate was absolutely massive and we ended up taking a little bit more than half home. Since we ordered 2 different entrees, chef didn't slice up the pork chop (as you'll see in other pictures). I think that ended up making the pork a lot juicier. It was a massive portion and extremely tender and juicy. I opted for the fish (as the pork is typically cooked slightly under). It was a pan fried branzino with a kimchi buerre blanc served on top of some gingery porridge. This dish absolutely blew my mind. The fish was so soft, flaky, tender and paired perfectly with the tangy and creamy kimchi sauce. The porridge was a 10/10 base to soak everything up. I cleared the plate and even soaked up extra sauce with their complimentary bread. I honestly wish I knew about their off-menu options in the past, as I do tend to prefer fish over other animal proteins, so don't be afraid to ask!

I celebrated my birthday by eating dinner here and had a fantastic time. The staff was so friendly, and Dan was especially accommodating to me and my mom - he even specially made us some chocolate milk to add to our coffee as we requested some chocolate syrup and they had none. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy, relaxed, and intimate while still feeling elevated. The menu for the day included: * Charred Corn Salad * arugula, pickled red onions, piquillo peppers garlic croutons, romesco * Grilled Flank Steak * roasted brocollini, rancho gordo pinquito beans spring onions, chimichurri * Point Reyes Toma * picholine tapenade, fruit bread * Silverado Trail Strawberry Panna Cotta * pistachio brittle, garden mint and we opted for one of the add ons: * Garlic Baked Gulf Shrimp * parsley, crispy breadcrumbs lemon butter Overall, everything tasted great and my favorite was the grilled flank steak and the strawberry panna cotta. Loved the hospitality and service, the pig designs (pigs are my favorite animal), and the beautiful location of the restaurant in Yountville (just across the Napa Valley Trail).

French Onion Dip & Kettle Chips

This one was a hard one to review, expectations and recommendations from friends were very high. We came here for my birthday dinner, seating was very quick, initial service was prompt and we were looking forward to the pre fixe menu. We ordered a couple drinks from the bar which were brought over to our table, our waiter went over the menu and how the pre fixe meal would proceed. For our starter, we had the Garden snap peas salad. The idea of fresh ingredients of carrots, frisee, arugula, and the Hobbs bacon was going to create a bounty of flavors, but fell short as our salad was doused heavily with dressing. The dressing completely overpowered the vegetables, did not compliment them as anticipated, leaving a very sour/bitter taste after every bite. Even the table next to us felt the dressing was overpowering. For our next course, we ordered the French onion dip and kettle chips appetizer, this was a solid pick! This appetizer was more than enough for two people, actually way too much for both of us, but enjoyed the dip very much. This is where the service began to slow down. We were almost done with our appetizer platter, needing some water refills and a fresh beverage, and felt like a very long time from when we received our appetizer until our waiter came back to us. For context, it had been almost an hour since we initially sat down, ate our salad and appetizer. I know this may be a slow paced meal, but felt overly long before we even got to our main course. For the main course, we had the pork chops. Well portioned for both of us, very tender, but lacked that nice grilled char we personally like. I assume the pork chops were sous vide and then finished lightly on the grill top to give the char and grill marks. Overall good, but not the wow we were anticipating for tonight's meal. Next up was the apple, crisp, dessert, which was OK and underwhelmed. We skipped the cheese and pretzel plate and asked them to put it in a to go box as we were already approaching two hours into our meal. Our experience may not be typical, but for a very expensive Friday night dinner, we felt it could've been spent elsewhere and would have had a better value overall.

Fried chicken (gluten free & dairy free)

First time visiting, make sure you make reservations, it was crowded on a Mon night. They had friendly service, a prix fixe menu with delicious comfort food & they were accommodating to our dietary needs. The green asparagus salad was surprisingly good cold with balsamic vinegar (gluten free/dairy free), they even gave us seconds! The GF/DF fried chicken was delicious, crispy on the outside & tender on the inside, the rosemary added nicely to the flavor. We also enjoyed the roasted garden squash. The jalapeño-cheddar polenta & the cheeseboard with GF cheese biscuit was only ok, the DF option of seasonal fruit was much better, it had almonds & honey. We also enjoyed the GF/DF dessert banana sorbet. My only complaint was that the food took a very long time to come out, we waited over 30min for our fried chicken & 20min for our dessert, the whole meal took 2.5hrs, but overall a good meal.

Branzino is the best I've ever had
    Ariana M.

Stopped in for lunch with my family and I was not disappointed. Impressed really. Can we talk about the branzino!? Seasoned to perfection and the artichokes are *chefs kiss*. My daughter had two orders of pasta with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. The brussel sprout salad is a bit heavy on the dressing. Would probably order light dressing next time. Servers and staff very attentive and pleasant. Highly recommend!

A Masterclass in Napa Comfort Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc continues to set the gold standard. We were deeply impressed by last night's masterful, multi-course menu, which featured both a perfectly grilled pork chop on a bed of rich, smoky bean fricassee, and a delicate, golden-brown veal scallopini. The veal, with its flawless, crisp breading and a hint of lemon, was a stunning counterpart. The accompanying wedge salad with its green dressing and sharp radishes was a vibrant, texturally perfect triumph. Every detail, from the caramelized cabbage side to the fresh garnishes, was expertly executed. This is not just a meal; it's a destination-worthy experience.

We came specifically for their burger at the bar, (not on menu) but unfortunately we came on a Friday when the shipment of the meat had not arrived in time. It was a letdown since we came for hubby's birthday and had been wanting to try it for over a year since the last time we were here. Guess we'll have to try again another time. We still decided to sit at the bar. You can either order à la carte from that day's offerings or do the set menu. Thanks to the group next to us, we found out you can also order just the sides if you don't want the main. The main that day was a pork dish with a jalapeno cheddar polenta, but we skipped it since we thought you had to order the whole thing and were already getting the fried chicken add-on. Luckily, we were able to order just the jalapeño cheddar polenta side which was very delicious. Sadly, I think we've officially given up on the fried chicken. I really wanted to like it since everyone seems to rave about it, but it just wasn't for me. The coating was beautifully crisp, but overall it tasted pretty bland and lacked flavor. The hot sauce bottles definitely helped and kind of saved it. The bartender brought out bottles for everyone. Interestingly, the last time we tried the fried chicken (a few years ago), we weren't offered hot sauce at all. The bartender mentioned they've always had it, which makes me think our server back then just didn't bring it out. I remember that visit too, we came for a Friday lunch, sat on the patio (we were the only ones out there), and still weren't offered any. The chicken was also bland back then. That said, the bartender was a nice kid, friendly and welcoming. He said normally he's a server but that day he was at the bar so I'll definitely look out for him again and request him. For drinks, I had a Diet Coke, which comes in a can. Since they're doing cans, I do wish they offered Coke Zero as well since I'm not really a Diet Coke person, but I also didn't want to just stick with water or iced tea with my meal. It was our first time sitting at the bar, and we really enjoyed the experience. I'd definitely sit at the bar again. Ordering à la carte also worked out better for us, especially since dessert that day was a chocolate mousse and I'm not a big chocolate dessert person. We still got one since it was hubby's birthday, and they brought it out with a candle, which was a cute touch. It was $10 and perfect to share, getting a second one just for me would've been a waste.

Fantastic place for a solid meal at a nice place to get a taste of what Thomas Keller can do without breaking the bank at French Laundry. Ad Hoc is a beautiful, fun place with plenty of pig decor. They change their prie fixe only menu regularly. We had a nice salad (great green goddess sauce), did the chips add on (maybe the best sour cream dip and chips I've had), veal (decent), the fried chicken add on (a must, tender and perfectly fried and seasoned), and a panna cotta was a wonderful finish to end the meal on a nice note. Service was excellent .

Ad Hoc was the first meal reservation I booked to kick off our weekend Napa trip, and it ended up being such a memorable start. We arrived about 30 minutes late, but the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. We were seated right away and greeted warmly, which immediately made the experience feel relaxed despite us running behind. The one thing I knew I had to try here was their famous buttermilk fried chicken. Although I probably should have checked the menu more carefully beforehand, I was a little surprised to find out that Ad Hoc offers a fixed $69 menu, and everyone seated has to participate. I was even more surprised to learn that the famous fried chicken is actually an add-on to the set menu. The whole thing kind of felt like Hermès, where you have to buy all the other restaurant offerings first just to get access to the thing you really came for--the chicken. Lol. Regardless, we went with the set menu and added one order of the fried chicken, which was more than enough to share among four people. It ended up being a great lunch before a full afternoon of wine tastings. The meal started with crudités, and the vegetables were beautifully presented and very fresh. The dip leaned more like a hummus-ranch sauce, which was lighter and not as thick as I personally prefer, so this course was probably my least favorite. Still, it was a nice, refreshing way to start the meal. The main course was pork, which I initially wasn't too excited about because I was still mentally waiting for the chicken. But honestly, it was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked to literal perfection. It ended up being one of the best pork dishes I've ever had, and I would happily order it again. The fried chicken was, of course, amazing. The batter and skin were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, while the inside was juicy, moist, and cooked beautifully. It's genuinely impressive how they manage to make fried chicken taste this perfect and consistent. Dessert was peach cobbler, and even though I'm not usually much of a dessert person, I really enjoyed it. It was warm, comforting, and a sweet way to end the meal. Overall, Ad Hoc was such a fun and satisfying way to start our Napa weekend. While the fixed menu setup and chicken add-on were a little unexpected, the quality of the food made the experience worth it. The pork was a surprise standout, the chicken lived up to the hype, and the service was warm from start to finish. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxed but elevated Napa meal--especially if you're going for that famous fried chicken.

Disappointed for sure. Cabbage soup was actually really good but that's where it stops. It was family style prix fix, which is fine, but leaves you and your group with no flexibility. The loin was OK portion was small. Buttermilk chicken was extremely dry super disappointed since we had to pay extra for this. Mousse was good but again expectations were set way higher. I wouldn't come back and in fact I'm less interested in trying French laundry now.

    Pork Milanese

Came in on a Saturday with my wife. Surprisingly, it was easy to get reservations the morning of. I remember when it was really difficult to get in. I noticed that the format is now pre fixed. At $70, didn't seem too bad. As a result the restaurant seemed a bit less hectic and more upscale casual. Creamy Sunchoke Soup - 5/5: this was very good. Rich and creamy with the perfect level of seasoning. Tasted like a corn chowder but more smooth. Would definitely go back for more of this. Grilled Hanger Steak - 3/5: this tasted a bit too salty with a high char on the outside. It was good but was not juicy as I expected it to be. The salsa verde did cut the salt a bit but not enough. Would skip this next time if there was an option. Pork Milanese - 5/5: this was an additional to the pre fixe menu and glad that we did. This was crispy on the outside but juicy pork on the inside. The beurre blanc sauce was excellent over the crispy skin. Perfectly seasoned. Sautéed Green beans with almonds - 4/5: this was a very good side. I liked the texture contrast between the softer green beans and the toasted almonds. Very good. Beemster Gouda - 4/5: by this time I was pretty full. The Gouda was more dry and crumbly vs Gouda I have had in the past. Pretzel was nothing special. The beans ton pickle came in a sauce form. It was very different. I could not decide if I liked it but was very intrigued by it. K+M Chocolate Pudding - 3/5: this was ok but did not taste anything spectacular. This was ok. Overall, the service was excellent. The food is on the upper scale and I liked the pre fixe format. I would recommend this restaurant to others if you have not been here. Worth a try.

Ad Hoc & Addendum Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Ad Hoc & Addendum

I'm eating at this establishment for dinner this coming Monday (7/20/2026). Does anyone have any idea of the pre fixe menu and the cost of the meal for that evening?

Buttermilk fried chicken and without adding more than what the prefix menu offers it should cost $69 per person.

Is there a set day for steak?

Typically Thursday is some sort of steak! You can stalk a couple weeks of menus to see

Are there specific days that they make fried chicken?

Generally Mondays- breakfast on Sundays have chicken and waffles often. Addendum opens in June and they offer chicken on the weekend.

Is the Sunday brunch fried chicken white meat (breast) or dark meat (thigh)?

It is a whole chicken cut, so you'll get two pieces of each, like 2 breast, 2 wings, 2 thigh and 2 drums.

Is the add on option priced per person or per couple?

You can do add on for the table.

Do they serve their "famous" fried chicken for Sunday brunch?

Some times, yes as an "add on", or it may be part of the "chicken and waffles" dish. You can go to…

I heard that there's a window in which you can order the famous fried chicken to-go and there's almost a patio like area with picnic tables that you can eat at...is this correct?

Yes, it's called Addendum and is a shack/shed behind the back parking area. Check for hours. They have their chicken with sides and sometimes BBQ or lobster rolls for special occasions. It's more like a park than patio area.

How long does lunch (3 courses) take?

Depends upon you & if you pause. We've usually found it to be an hour to hour & 1/2. If you have a mimosa or other cocktail it's closer to 1 1/2, if not, closer to 1. Enjoy!

Being that Addendum is temporarily closed, does this place accept to go orders/phone orders?

I heard they just started doing takeout.

Do they accept walk-ins or are reservations required?

Walk-ins are accepted, but you may have to wait a while if they are busy. I have found the hosts to be very flexible when trying to accommodate walkins, and eating ala carte at the bar is always an option.

We are visiting in April. Will the fried chicken be available every Monday? Thanks

Fried Chicken is now offered every night as an add on. Although it is not depicted on the menu, you can ask your server to place the order.

Do they not allow groups with uneven numbers to dine?? It appears to be impossible to book a table for 3, but you can book for 2 or 4...

Interesting! They do allow odd numbers of guests, including one. I've certainly dined with three and five before. But I'm not sure whether I initially booked for the odd number, or booked for an even number and then called to add or subtract one.

Are you still open? Haven't been able to reach by phone or email

They're open. We just went in February.

I've been trying to contact the restaurant without success. I want to make a dinner reservation for a party of 7. Tock limits it to 6 guests. Who can i contact?

Correct - it's been really frustrating to try and contact them (they don't pick up the phone). To try and reach them, if you have questions about your reservation, contact them at info@adhocrestaurant.com. If you are having difficulties reaching the…

I've been trying to call their number for a few weeks now but it always says the mail box of Jeffrey Wilson is full. How can I let them know that I will need a pescatarian/vegetarian option for my reservation?

Yes, when I went recently, they were very accommodating and flexible--I'm sure they'll be able to do a fish/vegetable option for you

Are we able to add/swap in the fried chicken to the pre fixed lunch menu? I wasn't able to see this information on the website on whether the fried chicken was available for dine in. Thank you!

Yes you can add the fried chicken to either the lunch or dinner pre fixe menus. I've done both. There is an up charge of $35 for the table

Hi, I would like to make a reservation in online. Is will open on 5/8-5/9?

They were closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as of my recent visit, and you should go to their website to use their reservation process. They'll forward you to 'Tock'. I had to be patient to make my reservation, seems like they opened up for…

For lunch, is there only fried chicken menu? Can I have 4course meal for Saturday lunch?

Yes, you can have the 4 course at lunch

Is this business taking reservations further out than 2 weeks in advance?

No, we've been able to get last minute reservations lately. In fact, we are on their daily menu mailing list, so we have on occasion seen the morning menu and made a reservation for that night.

During Covid19 period, can we eat at their outdoor areas (I remember they have a community garden next to the restaurant)?

Not yet, just open for pick-up

We also had the Wagyu beef carpaccio, which was excellent, the octopus, which was perfectly prepared, and the raviolo, which was rich and flavorful. Every dish we ordered was outstanding. If you're visiting Napa Valley, I highly recommend making a reservation at Bottega. It's located in a beautiful town, the restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the food is exceptional. We would absolutely love to come back on our next visit.

It has been rebranded to offer an Asian inspired food menu and I am definitely not mad about it. We came for HH and tried their entire food lineup as we came back from Japan and Hawaii only months before. Between the black truffle egg salad sando and pork katsu sando, it was the former that left us wanting a second order. However, the truffle flavor that made it shine during the first visit was much more subdued on our second. Between the Big Eye Tuna and King Salmon Chirashi Bowl and Snake River flat iron steak bowl, the chirashi was the one we duped as the tuna and salmon was super fresh that it took self-control not to devour that entire bowl without saying a single word. The royal caviar bump was surprisingly the one thing that was underwhelming considering it is formerly a caviar bar. I probably should've just gotten the osetra with the uni toast instead. The Hokkaido uni toast is on par with the uni we had in Japan, sweet, creamy, and oh so delicious. With the addition of the uni toast, the bill does add up even if you're only there for HH but it was worth every penny.

The Chef from Chicago (wish I could remember his name) really killed his sauce and there was a Thai one I like especially a lot too. Only down side is the pork belly flavor, smoke from what I gathered over powered the sauces flavors. So that was a bummer. Maybe each chef doing their own version of the pork belly and not just the sauce would show case their particular style and twist on it. I'd go again though. Keep it up guys!

The few other tables around us had the same experience. By the time the food got here my glass of wine was already done. They brought up my wife's salad but no utensils. That took another few mins. Why not bring it up at the same time? You're already 40 mins in to this? Then the chicken sandwich comes up. Looks great but the bottom bun is wet like it's been soaking in water. My wife walks it back and they give us a new one. But again, more time. We're 55 mins in at this point. I expect a restaurant in Yountville to be run a bit better than this. Management, you all need to step up on this one and fix this.

Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. The woman at the counter was cold and barely spoke, and I couldn't shake the feeling that she was silently judging my order. Not exactly the welcoming energy you'd hope for. The woman working in the back, however, was a bright spot. She kept a warm smile throughout and moved through her tasks with care. As for the drink itself, it was genuinely good, a solid 3.5 out of 5. Would I go back? Only if the group I was with wanted to stop in. Accidentally deleted my pictures

Once I approached the counter, I could feel the lady's energy wasn't going to be excellent. She wasn't warm and welcoming in taking my order. I ordered a vanilla latte with carmel and she said to me "you know that is going to be very sweet!" which came off a little condescending, like I didn't know what I was ordering. The latte itself was a solid 3/5. I left feeling a little disappointed because the service didn't match the charm of this cute little Yountville spot, which is really unfortunate.

For appetizers, we ordered black truffle oil deviled eggs and a butter lettuce leaf salad. The eggs were sooo rich. The truffle was not over powering too. For our main meal, we had the special Veal tongue which was tender and melt in your mouth goodness. Places that offers tongue do not always serve it right. It tends to be rubbery. At Jeanty's, it was not rubbery at all. The caramel ice cream and lemon sorbet was yummy. The caramel was sweet and super caramelly. The lemon sorbet was such a great palate cleanser. Good lemon flavor and not too tart and sour. The patrons next to us had the beef cheeks. Lots of patrons ordered bone marrow too. I know I want to order those two next time! Service was great. My sister had a meeting that she had to step out for. During the time I waited, our server made sure I was ok, refilled my water glass. I will definitely be back!!

We ordered their famous tomato soup, crispy pig's feet with mustard sauce, and bone marrow with escargots and bordelaise sauce. It was such a great selection of appetizers and more than enough to hold us over for the rest of the day. The tomato soup was truly to die for. It was incredibly rich, comforting, and full of a unique flavor that I already know I'll probably never be able to recreate at home. The crispy pig's feet were also cooked beautifully--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and basically melted in your mouth. Same with the bone marrow and escargots, which were rich, savory, and so satisfying. Everything was so good that I completely forgot to take photos, which is a rare occasion for someone like me. After getting a taste of how amazing each appetizer was, I'm even more excited to come back and try their main dishes.
