The Chateau Italian Restaurant is now Jim's #1 food spot! I have to admit, I like their food and menu myself. I've had everything from steamers and stuffies, to New England clam chowder and minestrone soup. Yesterday I had shrimp cocktail followed by Tuscany Styled Grilled Shrimp with grilled vegetables over rice -- fantastic! However, I really like their Lobster, Shrimp, & Scallop Diavalo -- I've had this dish more than once! Papa Jim has only had fried scallops and hamburgers, but he swears by them! This is classic Italian American Family dining at it's best. The chicken parm is juicy, and breaded perfectly. It's not over or under breaded and they don't try to do too much which I like. The sauce is delicious. Simple and has a very rich tomato flavor but not bitter. It doesn't taste sweet but it's not bitter either. I love a good Italian restaurant and I'm always looking for something that tastes like my grandmother from Italy's cooking. I stopped here when I was staying in the area for some lunch and decided to order a trio with lasagna, chicken parm and fettuccine alfredo. When it came to the table I was shocked by the presentation of it as the chicken parm and lasagna was smothered in sauce and the Alfredo barely had any at all. The lasagna tasted ok but there was very thick layers of ricotta with chunks of meat sitting on the very top which was odd. The chicken parm had a weird texture to it and the cheese was burried underneath the sauce. The Alfredo tasted like plain fettuccine with very little sauce at all. The worst part of the meal was definitely the sauce. It tasted watered down to me and in no way would I say this is authentic Italian cooking. We used to visit for the Early Bird special, where a soup or salad, entree, dessert, and coffee were served at a reasonable price between 2:00-4:00. We were disappointed to find a few months ago the meal prices were increased and dessert was dropped. Now, prices increased again and Early Bird is offered only from 3:00-4:00. We won't bother anymore. We had lunch yesterday and were disappointed with the food and the increased prices. A small chicken parm cutlet with 3 ravioli was $19. A fried fisherman's plate, at $27, was filled mostly with fries and the seafood that was on the plate was dry and not tasty. The presentation was sloppy and unappetizing, looked like the food was thrown on the plate, like a cafeteria line. We ate at the Nocera's Stoughton location last Saturday and felt that the food there was slightly better but the service was poor. Stopped for dinner busy place for a Tuesday night around 8pm. Ordered the bolognese pasta, nice heaping portion but they didn't drain the pasta well enough or let it cook in the sauce long enough so slightly watery and a bit light on the amount of meat in the sauce but solid. Italian food for people who don't know what well prepared Italian cuisine should be. Everything I ordered and tried was inferior..and I'm usually not fussy. Specifically: The Minestrone was not fresh tasting and probably came out of a vat prepared days ago. The chicken parm was a tough, overcooked piece of chicken that was microwaved. The meatball was small, dense, and also didn't taste fresh. The dessert, a lemon raspberry cake, had an off flavor suggestive of Mr Clean. Very unimpressed. A family owned business selling Pastene products at the door. My husband stated the calamari was the worst, the sauce for his pasta was partially water. This place has staff that is more rude than any other restaurant I've been too. My family and i called in a reservation a few days prior to going and when we get there "they changed their system" so our reservation did not show up so we had to wait (without and apology). After getting seated they refused to serve alcohol to my 21yr old brother (who was there celebrating his birthday) because he had a paper ID. Really?? We asked to speak to the manager Brian and he came over and had no people skills or anything and was choking up trying to give us an answer of why they couldn't serve alcohol to someone with a valid I.D. Food is okay...definitely better than what you will get at Olive Garden. Nothing spectacular. They seem new to online ordering and open table. They let you order and book tables online until 9:30 but act totally put out and tell you they are closed when you do so. We put an online order in at 9:10 and we got mulitple calls asking us if we knew they closed at 9:30. We get there at 9:29 and our food isnt even ready for another 10 minutes. We get home only to find our order was wrong. We wrote to company directly and have been completely ignored. I am so disappointed. The parking lot was packed so you would think this place had the best Italian food around. Why, why,why. please someone tell me why this place is packed? Do people no longer have taste buds? For this location and Italian focus I was expecting a killer sauce and a Italian dressing that you'd want to buy a bottle of to take home. The sauce had no flavor and the dressing was worse than bottled and I am sure it is bottled. The toasted ravioli sounded good, crunchy outside filled with hot melted cheese... but they came lukewarm, and soggy. I've been to the Chateau at least a dozen times and I've always had great service. The last 2 times I went, however, we had the same bartender who just couldn't be bothered. Last night we decided not to go back. I asked the bartender if he could recommend a dry white wine. At first he said he was busy (it didn't look it) and then he looked up and said he didn't know much about wines. I asked him if he could ask someone and he shrugged it off. Next, I asked if I could try one of their Rieslings. He said "In a minute - " and it did return a few minutes later with the Riesling. He then took our orders, I just wanted a side of meatballs and spinach. My friend ordered stuffed mushrooms and cheese manicotti with sausage. He asked for extra lemon and was told, "We have lemon here at the bar.". Fine. When the food came, I asked him (the bar had cleared out) if I could get some fresh parm (I hate the shaker stuff). Before I could get all the words out, he said, "No.". Then he continued, "We don't have any.". Wait. What? He should have just said "no". You can't tell me an Italian place doesn't have fresh parm cheese. But, I didn't want to spoil my night. I just made do. When I was getting the check, he apologized for the night. He said, "You know how one person can spoil the night?", and I replied, "Yeah, actually, I do.". And he said, "Well that's what happened to me.". I ordered a cup of clam chowder and their grilled chicken teriyaki which came with penne pasta. the clam chowder was really good, if you like a thick creamy broth and lots of clams, which I do. my dinner then came out on two separate plates, one bowl with the pasta and one plate with my chicken. It was really awkward on our small table but whatever. the pasta was good... although its difficult to mess that up. the teriyaki chicken was really overcooked and chewy. I barely ate any of it.. NOT worth nearly $15.00!! my friends got a mix of pizza's and eggplant dishes. They all seemed happy but not overly impressed, "mediocre" is definitely a good word to describe this place. The atmosphere could use a little sprucing up.. overall it was just kind of blah. if I ever go back I'll just stick with the chowder. read more

The Chateau was close to my hotel and didn't want to drive in traffic so gave it a shot, despite mixed reviews on Yelp. Atmosphere is nice. Wound up sitting on the bar side. Service was fine, typical when sitting at a bar because you can catch their eye easily. Got a house merlot, nothing great but drinkable. Wide variety of choices, specials, so plenty to choose from. Ordered the toasted ravioli and chicken parm combo. Plenty of food. Ravioli was good, but not outstanding (have had better in North End and other true Italian food hotspots) Chicken parm was ok too, tasty and plentiful but almost felt it was pre-made and then reheated with sauce thrown over it. One major complaint, echoed over and over in reviews of this place, is food comes out lukewarm. Not cold, but barely hot enough to start and by time you are done it's getting cold. I don't understand all the negative reviews of this place. I have been here on numerous occasions. I prefer to sit in the lounge/bar area which is always packed, so get there early unless you don't mind waiting for a seat. You're not going to find authentic Italian food here. It's definitely more Italian American cuisine; however, I must say that I have never had a bad meal, the service is always great and the prices are fair. My favorites are the chicken parm, turkey tips w/ grilled veggies and the pizza (although, the margherita pizza is not as good as others I've had elsewhere). First time here was a good experience. Cheese garlic bread appetizer was delicious. We ordered the Cod Piccata and the Chateau Special Pizza for entrees.
