I haven't been compelled (or had the time) to write a review on Yelp for quite some time, despite how heavily I rely on all you fellow yelpers as I travel the country quite extensively. With that said, here I sit, clattering away on my iPhone (ok ok, the clattering is imaginary) composing this review in the restaurant to assure you the freshest possible details of my experience (perhaps the freshest thing in this restaurant). Let me start by asking, you the captivated audience of this post, how long would you expect it takes to cook chicken parmigiana, toasted ravioli and fettuccine Alfredo?.. Now I'm no chef, however I (and assuming you as well) may have expected some estimate greater than 5 minutes. I was taken aback by the speed at which my entree arrived I could only assume that my dinner was assembled from heated trays akin to McDonalds methodology. I was surprised to find out that their chef was actually none other than a retired superhero!!.. Ahh, I lied. In (disappointing) fact, as I sampled my "trio" entree I came to realize that I've had better microwaveable TV dinners. I'm sure the restaurant founders (a charming Sicilian couple) would roll over in their graves, zombify, return to the land of the living, see their portrait on the menu, and with a disgusted undead groan, proceed to rip apart and devour every person working in the kitchen. Extreme? I know! How's this for extreme? There's a Chili's next door and I'm kicking myself for not eating there instead. At least they cook their food to order. I expect my dinner may have been plated by a blind person before a quick "nuke" in the "micro" then enjoying a rest under the heat lamp for 4 minutes, prior to being brought to my table. Ok, so the food isn't good. Clear? Any redeeming factors? Well, an attentive waitress and a couple glasses of wine... Sounds about accurate. Even the host staff was miserable (I should have taken the hint). When I walked in there were three hosts, two of which were having a personal conversation about someone (likely a coworker) that they mutually disliked, and didn't get so much as a "yo" from either of them. I've had better Italian food at Caraba's or Macaroni Grill. I know there aren't a lot of choices in this particular part of MA, but in retrospect I may have been more satisfied with chicken Mc nugglets... If you feel I might be a little harsh, biased or what-have-you I'll leave you with this concise final thought: the restaurant is called "The Chateau - Italian Family Dining", so WTF is Chicken Teriyaki doing on the menu? read more

Was looking for a place to take my mom out for dinner. I've been here before and the food is pretty good but nothing to make the drive for. We happen to be at my Aunt's house in Andover and was looking for something close. Got seated right away but it took awhile to get the waiter to make his initial visit. Nice guy but quite on the ball. The menu is HUGE. Too much with way too many options. Made my head spin trying to decide. And of course my luck the first thing I chose after reading this "book" was not available. Can't remember what is was so I must not have been too impressed. I ended up ordering the baked haddock which was good but a little on the small side. Thankfully they had Heineken Lights to save this review. CONS The small tvs at the tables are great but kinda worthless if I can't watch the game you have playing at the bar. just sayin... read more

The food is rather bland but what will moreover keep me from coming back is the heinous service. From the minute we walked in the rude hostess very snootily said "30 minutes" and let me tell you - it was an hour. And as we watched parties of people pay and leave and plenty of clean tables sit uninhabited I questioned when my turn was and I was told "there are still people ahead of you" and a deep sigh ensued like as if I was bothering her. I you like canned tomato sauce (or bottled), rude service and HIGH prices - this is the place for you!! Started out with frozen butter and 5pieces of whole bread pulled from a grocery stir bag not warmed up. Two of us had cheese ravioli with Alfredo (bottled, I know this taste as it's my kid's favorite at home and the waitress didn't deny it - $17.95 for eight pieces, no garnishing. One had Chicken Alfredo - noodles hard, hardly any sauce and a half cut up chicken on top- O flavor and lastly the canned puréed tomato sauce on the stuffed shells for $30 which was awful to say the least .... We were traveling for hockey and when the food can't even fill up teenage girls and they paid their own money they were hoping for leftovers but it was so bad they didn't even take it to eat as a snack. We've passed this place on the highway a thousand times and tonight we finally tried it. The word that comes to mind is mediocre. The atmosphere was crowded and noisy. The menu selection was basic Italian from the 1960s. The service was slow. The bread was basic store-bought Italian white from a bag. I had the chicken parmesan and a salad. The salad was small with iceberg lettuce predominating. There was one tomato wedge in it. I got a single overcooked chicken breast, probably already breaded while frozen and about 1.5 cups of overcooked ziti. The marinara sauce was undercooked and watery. We won't be back. read more

I don't want to write a bad review because this place doesn't deserve one, however the last few times I have been the chicken parm was just ok. The sauce is always tasty, but the cheese was barely melted on top the last time I was here, not all melty how it should be. The past few times the chicken was so thick and tough to chew, almost like it was overcooked and dried out. The only part I could eat was the pasta and breading. The servers are friendly however I would recommend they write down the order as some times they try to remember it and bring out the wrong pasta choice. I won't complain because pasta is pasta, but it is nice to get ziti when you order ziti. The service is always quick and the dining area always looks clean. We went to the Chateau last evening. There was six of us. The booth was a little tight, but okay as we are all good friends. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was cold. The manager told us he would take it off the bill. Four of us ordered sirloin tips, surf and turf style. I ordered the tips rare and they were cold and medium. Another guest had to send the cold Haddock back. Sour cream had to be requested three times, same for napkins. Two people ordered dessert and the manager also took them off of the bill. We went for the prime rib only to discover it is not on the menu any more. It was a fun night with friends, but cold mashed potatoes are not enjoyable. Didn't even take the leftovers home. If you like cold food, then I recommend this place. read more

So disappointed with the takeout food I ordered last evening. I spent $200 on 2 half trays of Turkey Tips to feed about 20 guests at my home. The tips weren't ready when I arrived to pick them up, so I had to wait. I returned home just in time to beat my guests, but when I opened the tips, I received less than half of the 40 pieces per tray that were advertised, and the tips themselves were small, chewy and cold. The lady said the wait was 25 minutes but it turned out to be more that 45mins then when we got seated we order our food & that took another hour overall we lost our appetite cause of the wait. But I gave it one Star cause we had a great waiter. She knew that we was pissed so she got us the Manager & he took off the appetizer & one of the entree so we paid for the kids food, drinks & one entree. read more

We've been here a few times with family friends and have enjoyed every experience. Saturday, my family made a reservation for my dad's birthday. There ended up being 7 of us, and we were seated quickly. For a place we'd consider on the fancier side, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. This is the kind of place you end up staying longer than you plan on, because you never feel rushed to leave. I wish I remembered our waiter's name, because he was phenomenal: the perfect blend of professional, funny, and a touch of sarcasm. He made sure we always had enough drinks, food, and made the overall experience great! The food itself is delicious, and the portions are satisfying, with enough to have a leftover snack the next day. I had the Classic Italian Trio #1: Toasted Ravioli, Chicken Parm, and Fettuccine Alfredo. The Parm had that perfect crispy edge while the chicken remained perfectly moist. The Alfredo is thick and creamy, and the Ravioli are true perfection. For dessert, my boyfriend and I split the tiramisu, and despite being stuffed full with Italian goodness already, I probably could have finished one by myself. They stuck a candle in my dad's apple crisp (which he quickly devoured) and the night was a rousing success. Definitely recommend! read more

Our first time here it reminds me me of a time gone by. Food is abundant flavorful and well prepared. Our drinks overflowing made perfectly. Our wait minimal server was the best even though we were not prepared to order. So nice to be greeted by someone who doesn't ask "just one" when you are clearly one. Bryana was awesome and I appreciated her professionalism. Sat down and was not thrilled to see a Keno screen at my table. BUT WAIT! Fran, my server, came over and said I did not have to see it. Football games were on so I changed the channel to football. There are not many stations but enough. One also had the option of turning it off. To the food!! The very generous broiled seafood platter was as expected. Stuffed shrimp, scallops and lightly breaded haddock were all perfectly cooked. The scallops and haddock had a bread crumb topping and the stuffed shrimp had a bread stuffing. Not exactly a completely low calorie option but I'm sure I could have requested it without the breading. They cooked with very little butter, at my request. The crunchy, slightly sweet, fresh coleslaw was a bright complement to the rest of the meal. Since this is an Italian restaurant, my guess is many come for the Italian specialties. Some nearby diners were dipping their bread in olive oil so it was a good sign they were here for the Italian food. I heard the toasted ravioli were delicious but it would have been too much food for me. You might want to check them out. The Château was everything I expected it to be. This place should be called "Déverser" (look it up if you don't speak French) mass produced Italian food with little character or taste, Appetizers resemble the frozen ones you can buy at warehouse stores, Restaurant Depot, or the like. Sauces tasted like they were out of a can or plastic JUG, the chicken in the fettuccini was DEFINITELY out of a CAN. The service was adequate, the atmosphere feels like a banquet hall and seems to attract a Geriatric, Bingo crowd. If you like frozen Pizza you will be perfectly happy here. I have to do a shout out for the bartenders. They are attentive to everyone but there is an extra shout for Christy. She is wonderful. The Chateau has been a staple in my travels over the last 6 years. The food is better than average and the staff is quite attentive. I recommend it to my clients while in the area. However my experience tonight was most upsetting. I informed the young server i didnt want carbs and what were my options. She said to double up the veggies or a side salad. I chose the salad. She then asked what other side. Confused, I responded I'm having veggies and the salad. She said there is an additional charge for salad, so I said cancel salad and double up veggies. Aggravating, but no biggie Much later the same server took the order of another. I wasn't paying to much attention, but when order came, the woman said she ordered clam chowder and not French onion. The server said she didn't but would exchange it. The woman said it was ok l, but anyone with half a brain could tell she didn't want to be a trouble. Anyone with a quarter brain could have observed she only picked at the soup. So as I was paying my bill, I told the server to give her the clam chowder, and again the woman didn't want to be a trouble. I repeated to the server, just do it and the server asked her again. I regret I didn't reach over and tear up my signed bill with 20% tip to get another bill and leave server 0%. This server was not attentive to her customer needs. If she were, she'd noticed the lady was picking at the soup and only ate a small portion. A smart server would have just provided the clam chowder to insure customer satisfaction. I will go back and ì will seek the server out to tip her with only words of wisdom, which she obviously needs more than money. She was much more attentive to the bar help than customers at the bar, as ì waited better than 10 minutes to get her attention at 8 pm. I will still tell my clients of the Chateau, but also this story. Be aware, you will see positive comments on how great the staff is after this post. It is a pattern I've noticed in Yelp. Has gone completely down hill! My husband and I went there today for early dinner. Our son wanted the chicken parm and so did we. We have gone to The Chateau for the chicken parm for years! Always on point. Today, not so much. Have you ever bitten into a piece of chicken that was fibrous? Chewing through grainy layers of meat? Just puts thoughts into your head, "Is this chicken old?" Then the odor of seafood wafting through your nasal passages. You sit there thinking, "wow! I hope this wasn't cooked with shrimp. I'm allergic to certain shellfish." We sat there thinking these very same thoughts. It's pretty much validated after you spit out a huge chunk of fatty grainy chicken. Then you start to take note that the sauce is different from ALL the other times you've eaten this very "same" dish. It's a shame that restaurants can't become consistent with their meals. The Chateau has lost the consistency factor and therefore will lose their many customers that used to frequent the place. My husband and I will not be visiting The Chateau probably ever again. Such a shame. But at least we got to endure this horrible early dinner so that we may share our experiences with our many friends and family that I'm pretty positive, after hearing about our experience will no longer visit them either. Just a quick note. Our waiter Elio was attentive and friendly. Showed concern for the situation and professionally apologized for the meal. Been eating here for years, used to be fantastic, busy, guaranteed wait. Stopped in today for late lunch, ghost town, wondered why, sauce now straight from a can, penne pasta, totally overcooked, chicken parm (my go-to meal here) room temp even though it only took minutes from order to table, greasy, like oil was not at temp when chicken dropped in, also too thick and fatty, it's usually pounded to just under 1/2 in thick, this wasn't touched so the difference thicknesses led to three different levels of doneness. The meal explained the emptiness of a place that's usually pretty busy. All in all its my second bad meal here in a row inside of two months. I'm done, save yourself the trip. As I sit here now within the half hour of leaving there, I'm left with a $70.00 lunch tab (only one glass of wine on that bill) and the most foul taste in my mouth. Never again. read more

OMG so so good. Don't look elsewhere. We are visiting and after searching many places and menus we ordered from here. The food is fantastic. I got broiled scallops with rice. Scallops are so tricky and easy to overcook. These were perfect and a nice portion. Sauce was tasty but light. Also got the strawberry shortcake and they packed it up nice and separately so it didn't get soggy. They have a wonderful and varied menu. We will eat there again during this trip. My girlfriend and I went to The Chateau multiple times, and we've been satisfied every time we've visited. On one occasion, she ordered the eggplant parm and I got the chicken parm. The eggplant parm was we-seasoned, not too thin, not too overcooked, and tasted crispy. The chicken parm was very tender and the sauce and cheese tasted fresh. Overall, we look forward to coming back again. read more
