My husband and I have lived in East St Paul for 22 years We don't go out to eat very often because we can't afford it Yesterday was our 29th anniversary and I had a Groupon gift certificate so we decided to try The Cherry Pit. The service was bad and the burger that was to have just bacon and cheese on it had blue cheese or some other mystery white chunky sauce all across it and the french fries. My husband had a packer jacket on and we are not "regulars" to The Cherry Pit so I don't know if that's why we were treated so badly...? We left very disappointed as it wasn't what we had hoped for a special treat for our anniversary. read more

I have readily recommended the Cherry Pit to my family, friends and neighbors. It has a friendly and familar atmosphere, excellent food (especially burgers and salads) and quality employees. The owner, Nicole, is very personable (she's also very attractive) and takes care to greet her customers whether they are regulars or new. Also, "The Pit" likes to try new stuff to enhance it's customers enjoyment: altogether a very enjoyable place to have a burger and a beer (or two). read more

I recently held a fundraiser at The Cherry Pit and was pleasantly surprised at how polite and efficient the staff was, from the owner to the bartenders. They were always concerned, asking if we had everything we needed for our group and if there was anything else they could help us with. The food was fantastic (especially the Cheese Curds lol), and they gave us a great deal on food and beer. There were multiple things to do and keep interest throughout my event; pool tables, dart boards, they allowed us to set up a beer pong table. It was AWESOME! I LOVE The Cherry Pit. They have awesome food and great prices. They always have specials when the Twins and Vikings play. The staff are great. I call this place the local "Cheers". dropping by with family member for karaoke nite since this is my first ever going and last there from out of town, getting there at 3 hours before closing, family member ordered 2 beers gave me one, by 12 order another mug for myself, though a little time to get it because it was a little busy for the bartender which I considered. By time trying to purchase me another mug of beer by 1:15 I was being ignored of service for amount of time and end up not getting one, though I was by my fam member through the nite, fam and i left after that ordeal knowingly I did not do anything wrong aside we were in a process of leaving anyways prior from closing, the 2 bouncers were right there besides us as we sang couple songs and I asked if there was any problem they had no idea after trying to figure out themselves..I wasn't being obnoxious or anything, bartender was pointing towards us (in my group) and I didn't realize she was pointing at me..heck I even looked back who she was pointing to, I asked the other bouncer in a manner whom she had escorted me what was the problem/reason "there wasn't any" as he lifted his shoulders up like duh "dunno, i'm just here to be told to escort people out". however it turned out to be that I was to be escorted out for no apparent reason...just bec. she said so! Perhaps the mug order I've made that evening.. I did not leave a tip which made her rude attitude mode to give any reason and I'm very courteous/generous tipping wherever I go to... depends on customer service! read more

My husband and I stopped by for Pitgo last night. We sat at a table and there were menus for food. My husband grabbed a couple of bingo cards and we began playing while also trying to read the menu between numbers. We didn't realise there was no server, so we were trying to decide what to order. Meanwhile, my husband happened to win that round of bingo. As soon as he got back to our table with his winnings (a tshirt) the ponytailed bartender rudely said that we had to order a drink from the bar if we were going to play bingo. Apparently he didn't notice that we had been perusing the menu for the last 5 minutes? We each ordered a drink, which we had been planning to do, and decided to leave after we finished. We did not order food or additional drinks, as we had planned. We have been customers before and enjoyed the food, but we didn't appreciate the rude service (or lack thereof) on this visit. Bingo was fun and we would have loved to stay, but clearly we weren't wanted! read more

I'm giving one star just for there food. I live in the neighborhood and my boyfriend likes to get pulltabs so I come along and have a cocktail and some food. The food is great don't get me wrong. This bar seems to be run by drug dealer's and the bartenders and servers either don't care or just are oblivious to it. Every time I come in there are the same guys stationed at the corner of the bar looking for people. The guy in the wheelchair is actually the one that distributes the drugs to the people. I came in with my boyfriend yesterday to get some food and pull tabs and I witnessed a drug deal happen right in front of me. He guy actually dropped the small ball of white stuff and picked it up without any care. He didn't even care to see if anyone was watching, I have never felt so uncomfortable in an establishment ever. This is a gang, drug run place and I feel so bad because the owner is very kind but wow, not great to always see drug deals going on when you come here. Yikes. read more

It's just ok. You pretty much have to flag down a bartender to get a drink as they are usually talking with the drunk regulars at the bar. Once it gets dark, you basically have a group of drunks just looking to start a fight. read more

The cherry pit is my favorite place to go! Burgers are delicious and chicken oriental salad is a must try. Last time we were there, Savannah was our waitress and she was so accommodating and went above and beyond to give us excellent service! read more

We went here because we had a groupon. It was alright. The later it got the more people came in. Then came the Karaoke which made it more fun, pull tabs. They have really good burgers and chicken wings. Ice cold beer. I would definitely come back. read more

The Burger Wars winner!!! I'm a parent of an 11 year old baseball player. After games the families of the team will often go to a local eatery for a little food and beverage. Somehow the topic of "best burger" always seems to work its way into the conversation. Without specifically naming other restaurants, this season we've had the opportunity to taste burgers in White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi, Oakdale, Woodbury, and St. Paul. I don't think any of us would have ever bet money, but The Cherry Pit has unanimously come out on top. I highly recommend the Quesadilla Burger, top notch! read more

Great burgers and salads - huge portions of fries. Been here a couple times since March of 2013, which makes me think it has changed hands, but maybe should change names! The bad reviews seem fairly old. Much better inside and out than anything named "pit". Have been in for lunch, happy hour but not late night so cant speak to that. I'm new to the East Side and wanted to go somewhere new for dinner was disappointed with the atmosphere and harassment of asking for an ID when there were no tables occupied. The Cherry Pit is a nice East Side bar to hang out for drinks and/or dinner. The drink special's are great, the staff is very friendly and the food is very good and very reasonably priced! I am usualy there for happy hour and the "regulars' are very nice, there is always someone to strike up a conversation with. The patio outside is probably one of the nicest patio's in the area with the water fountain, fireplace and the new outdoor bar. It's become my Tuesday hang out for happy hour, they have a meat raffle, double up for a buck drink specials, free taco's and free bingo. Sounds like a fun way to unwind after work! read more

I went there a couple weeks ago to grab some lunch because I had heard from a friend that they have really good food and great prices. I Got a burger for $5 and it was really delicious! I ended up going back there again just last week for their happy hour. They have awesome drink specials, meet raffles and Bingo! To top it off, I ended up winning at Bingo! And not to forget, they have a new patio with a fire pit and Bar outside. It is really cool out there! I highly recommend the Cherry Pit for great food, great prices and a great time! read more

Ugh ...Service was not so good young female bartenders to busy chatting to take your order or on their phone. I finally was able to get a drink and ordered wings to go with a side of fries that sat up at the cooks counter until I asked 35-45 min later if our food was ready yet? Who knows how long it was sitting up there ? the wings were a bit dry even with that small amount of sauce on them but not bad, fries we could not eat because they were throw on the top of the wings with out any paper or foil between them so they were soggy and limp. read more

Whenever I go to this bar I have fun, whether it's only half a dozen people in for lunch, or a full house on a weekend night. They've made HUGE changes to their restrooms, which used to be just ok, but c'mon really? I'm here for the food, drinks, and atmosphere! The owner has always seemed like an awesome lady who tries hard to make sure her customers have a good experience, whether it's your first time or your hundredth time. They've also recently made some changes to their menu, and I highly recommend getting the Bleu Cheese burger with a side salad. A lot of the other food is pretty good as well. You can play games upstairs, or have good conversation with people on the main floor. They also have a private party room available, in case you have an event coming up that you'd like a nice space and a private bartender for! They usually have some kind of food / drink special happening, so make sure you check this bar out. Sit on the patio if the weathers nice! read more

Ok now I go there ummmm almost everyday so I know a lot about the place. I love the atmosphere dayside/night side be it it's an older crowd by day which is cool. The food is above average, Nikki the owner revamped the menu sometime back and the wanton tacos are orgasmic. The wings are on hit as well, the burgers are good as well, now I love heat in my food. Just don't feel there's too many spicy hot food options (like the east side inferno sauce @ St. Paul Saloon) but good food nonetheless. Security has been vastly improved in the last month on the night side. It was a bit hood a few months ago on the night side. But really has gotten better. Now the 2 reasons why I gave the pit 3 stars is because there's no happy hour food menu, some days they have $1 burgers which those are mehhh because of the diff meat used which is ok I understand they are only a buck. But then again that's not everyday that the pit has $1 burgers. A consistent HAPPY HOUR GOOD MENU would be the hook as most establishments have them. And the bone I have is OMG the bartender genie is an awesome person but she short shot drinks all the time. I myself bartend and yea I stick to beer when I'm there with her. Again she's a nice person but I really think she has to get out of bartending. There's not a time I go there and she's super slow and it wouldn't even be that busy. And then the bartender Chris always has to help her catch up. The service then is honestly a 1 star when Genie is working. I try to steer clear of that place when she is there. A sweet old grandmother is great but a fast paced bartender with good service she's not. read more
