The Chimneys is the most upscale hashery in Gulfport. Their crabmeat casserole is "to die for," and the drinks are mixed with precision, authority, and skill. At lunchtime, it seems to be a sort of "ladies of the club" environment. During a recent visit, my partner and I saw two other gay guys, and I jokingly said, "Well, they fit right in!" If you're on a tight budget, go there for lunch. For the more extravagant who can open their billfolds wider, dinner is very nice. read more

Major restoration after Hurricane Katrina and relocation as the orginal Chimneys had been in Long Beach. I have eaten here several times and have enjoyed the creole, fresh seafood and steak menu. Lunch is a particularly great value and my choice today was the the red snapper topped with fresh sauteed lump crabmeat along with a fesh salad and a cream artichoke and crawfish soup dujour. Have tried many items on the menu and have not had a meal I did not like. Ambiance, excellent service and fine food.....what more could you aske for ....Plan to return here real soon. Visiting the area and was looking for a nice seafood restaurant that did not serve fried food. This was it! We had crab stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer that tasted wonderful! Husband had Oysters Chimney , oysters baked with mushrooms & scallions in a hollandaise sauce. He scraped the plate clean. I had broiled trout with slivered almonds. The fish was perfectly cooked and tasted great! The restaurant was originally an old plantation house that had been renovated. Perfect ambiance for a quiet dinner witH my bestie. We ate indoors but they have a beautiful front porch that also has dinner seating. Our server Christin was attentive but not overly. She did a wonderful job of taking care of us. This place is a joke. They make themselves out to be a fine dining restaurant but they are understaffed with mediocre food. Hostess was hard to understand and rude. Just had an incredible meal from salad to entree to desert to coffee and a great conversation on Paul Jackson art and life with Pete The Creole salad dressing was great, the pecan crusted grouper was amazing, the Key Lime pie was awesome, and the coffee was very fresh great end to meal. The waitstaff was excellent, very attentive to all our wishes and recognizing our interest in the local artist, bringing over a book of his art. Go for brunch if you do go. The place looks really beautiful and it's an aesthetically pleasing place to celebrate something special or just to treat yourself. I've gotten steaks twice here and they tend to be a little underseasoned but still very good. On the weekends the place gets packed so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. My only qualm was with the dinner service. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was almost empty, however, service was quite poor. The mojito I ordered for my friend tasted like flavored water and the food came so slowly people were getting frustrated and hangry. I had recommended this place because of my past experience but unfortunately I won't be recommending it for dinner again. I still think their brunch is pretty good and would be back for that. read more

Adorable place! I suggest making a reservation for Sunday's. We arrived 5 minutes before opening (waited in line outside) and only tables open were outside on the porch. I not only insist my reps take us to dinner there when I asked where I want them to take us for dinner during market but I tell everyone to go there at least once during their visit. The Chimneys is the perfect choice for a special evening, whether a quiet dinner for two or a rousing celebration. Tonight, it was just my husband and me out for a quiet dinner. The service was fabulous, and the food was delicious! The warm bread is a must eat, and the wine is generously poured. I had the seared tuna with lemon vinaigrette for appetizer. It was delicious and such a grand serving that I could not finish my main course. But that's ok, since I love to take home a box. My husband had the crabmeat Chimneys, which was a divine combination of crabmeat, cheese and white sauce. The house salad was fresh and the creole ranch dressing was perfect with it. I had the Godchaux, my oh my! Lump crabmeat, beautiful shrimp, avocados, anchovies, and lots of other healthful stuff. So so good! Don't pass this up if you're on the Ms Gulf Coast! read more

Best place for a nice dinner in Gulfport. Inside looks like a country club. Staff is very nice--great southern hospitality. A full bar with some unique drinks. I recommend the Orange Crush or Pickle martini. Seafood dishes are amazing. The Tuna Steak is fabulous. They also make their own salad dressings. Don't miss the Creole Ranch. Deserts are fantastic. Try the creme brûlée. Casual but one would probably feel most comfortable wearing preppy clothing to this place--khakis and polos. Not a good atmosphere for kids. Great view of the Gulf. read more

The food and atmosphere was great! The Trout 1640 was delicious!!! The crab cakes for an appetizer were also very good. They do take reservations. I would recommend getting one, because the restaurant isn't very big. We are from out of town and found this restaurant on Yelp. We will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more

We were gifted a meal for two for Christmas and I lost the certificate but I called, gave them my name and the name of the person who gave it and they pulled it up no problem and we were able to use it. I had beef tips that were cooked in a wine reduction sauce I believe. It was probably the best piece of beef I have ever had. Their potatoes are fantastic as well. WOW! What a great find! Fine dining with a full house and no reservation on a Saturday night - the first Juneteenth after passage into a federal holiday- With my hat in hand, literally, the hostess listened and somehow found us a table for four with only a 7 minute wait. The rooms were packed and the crowded tables were all in a great mood. Our waiter was gracious, catered to our every request and made sure we could hear him above the celebratory background noise. Drinks arrived just as ordered (the local ale and IPA were great), food specials expertly explained, appetizers quickly appeared and orders followed in proper order. The tuna steak entre' was possibly the best I've ever had anywhere, the filet with shrimp was reported to be great as was the sautéed vegetable pasta. In sum, a fantastic evening made possible by the hostess and our waiter. Our only regret is that we were not able to repeat Sunday evening but we'll remedy that on our next visit to Gulfport in a few months. Can't wait! read more

Fantastic brunch! The prices have gone up recently so for example my eggs benedict with champagne or mimosa was $22. Rather steep for brunch but you are paying for the intimate feel of the house turned restaurant, the wonderful service and of course the lovely view of the coast made better by patio tables. When we dined here the French Toast was so wonderful that my elderly and ill father finished his entire plate plus beignets...this is the 1st time he's done this in years! We also ran into a friend that also lives a ways away and she said that Chimneys is their Sunday treat every week. It is this kind of place, wonderful! read more

Best comment I have is that this is a lovely place to look at. We arrived for dinner at 5:30 and no hostess. Our dinning guests were already seated so we just walked to the table. Waitress was attentive and on her game. We ordered Calamari and stuffed mushrooms for apps. Nothing special about the Calamari. Your basic run of the mill, battered calamari with a side of marinara. The stuffed mushrooms were well cooked, and the stuffing was nice and moist. But for a place that is suppose to be a top class dinning experience they might think about using baby portabella or something a bit more exciting for the mushrooms. Salads, exactly what Randy T described. One of the worst salads I have eaten to date. The dressing of Balsamic vinaigrette was so lacking in flavor I wasn't even sure what the heck it was. 1 small grape tomato cut in half, one slice of cucumber, one ring of red onion and the rest was extremely dark mixed greens. For meals our table ordered the whole stuffed flounder, the Ahi Tuna and then 2 orders of the special of the night, which was a blackened Mahi topped with shrimp and crabmeat, some sort of heavy garlic butter something or other, resting on top of asparagus. The mahi was way over cooked and dry as could be. No blacken spices that I could taste at all. I'm a garlic lover so was not offended by the large amounts of chopped garlic atop my fish, but my dinning partner was less then thrilled. Asparagus and the app of stuffed mushrooms claimed to have holidanse atop them. I think they dragged out the teaspoon to top these items and measured it exactly. They managed to get a dollop of holidanse on 2 of the 5 pieces of apsaragus. For the price you pay here you do not get what you are paying for. Me and my BF left hungry and visited another dinning location for coffee and desserts. Would I give this place another try? not a chance read more

Decided to visit Chimneys after craving my favorite dish this weekend. This is the first opportunity that I had to visit Chimneys since it has re-opened. The restaurant was rebuilt at the old location in a southern style with lots of windows overlooking the gulf. When we arrived there were less than six tables occupied but you wouldnt have known that by the hostesses actions. Hostess was pre-occupied and kept us and another party waiting while running back and forth. For the calibur this restaurant tries to achieve first impressions can make or break you and having a hostess confused when your slow sure doesnt make a lasting one. When our menus arrived I was disappointed to see a scaled down verison of the original menu with my favorite dish omitted. Our waitress was on top of her game and probably one of the highlights of our visit. The food unfortunately was a little disappointing. I settled on the Grilled Chicken and my partner the Sauteed Vegetables over Pasta. Our salads were mixed greens with only 1 grape tomato and 1 slice of cucumber each. My partner and I found this a little ridiculous and very stingy for any restaurant much less an establishment considered to be a 4 star restaurant. My Chicken dish was good but my partners Vegetable Pasta was disappointing. Although the vegetables were fresh and crisp and the Pasta cooked Al dente there was way too much vinegar used giving the vegetables a pickled taste. Although we enjoyed the ambiance of the evening I would not have made the trip had I known my favorite dish was no longer on the menu and was disappointed that my partner was not able to enjoy her meal. read more
