If you're looking for a local place away from the buzz of casinos, try The Chimneys. IMO, when on the coast, skip the beef selections. You're there to enjoy the delicious gulf seafood and how it's prepared. (Assuming you can eat seafood.) The fried oysters are probably the best my date or I had ever enjoyed. Fried with a light and well-seasoned coating, they were tender and moist. The stuffed flounder was perfectly cooked with the fish flesh easily flaking. If the weather permits, sit on the front porch and enjoy the gulf view. TIP: Heading west on US 90, turn right just after the turn and parking lot for the Courtyard by Marriott but before entering 15th St. You'll see the blue sign for The Chimneys at the last minute and it comes up fast. It's nice to find variety, as many options in the south tend to be the same. We sat outside for dinner. The ambiance was great. Love the beautiful old home this restaurant is located in. From our window table we could see the gulf across the street. As usual we had already looked at their website food/drink selections. Our server Eric S was delightful ,helpful and cute as a button. Of course we had to ask his opinion on our choices. We had a delicious cup of soup and for our entrees Laura had the 8 ounce filet(cooked perfectly) and I had broiled trout meunière almandine(wonderful). On Eric's recommendation we had crème brûlée. I was thirsty to try this place out. So this restaurant only takes reservations for Sunday brunch. I was about 25 minutes late and thankfully they saved my requested seat by the French doors and windows, for a closer view of the water. I must say that the breakfast menu is limited and prices do not reflect what is advertised online ‼ We were welcomed with a fresh bread and softened butter. Off to a great start! I started with the spinach and artichoke dip, something unusual to eat for breakfast, but I can never pass on a spinach dip. It wasn't bad, but not great. It was more runny and composed of thin artichokes. The toasted bread that came with it was good. For my entree, I got the seafood omelet, roasted potatoes, and goat cheese & cheddar grits. The seafood omelette was definitely not amount the top omeletes I've had in my 25 years of existence. The potatoes were so bland, I don't think they put a pinch of seasoning on it, at all! The goat cheese and cheddar grits weren't all that. It had this funny texture, which I am assuming is from the goat cheese. Oh, my meal did come with a glass of champagne that I substituted for a mimosa. If I ever come back to this place, I will definitely try something else because that seafood omelete was not it! We arrived at 11:15 on Friday and were seated immediately, by a window facing the ocean. (Photo of view) The dining room is elegant, the view is the prettiest part of the Gulf of Mexico, due primarily to the giant oak trees and bright blue sky over the beach. I had the stuffed flounder, it had a very strong fishy smell, it was palatable non the less, but not as tasty as expected. The steamed veggies we more raw than cook with no flavor. My partner had the filet mignon steak topped with shring top with shrimp and crab meat The steak was tender, but had a distinct Worcestershire taste infused in it , so distasteful. We went here for my husband's birthday last year and had a lovely experience, so we decided to go back this year. I made a reservation online, requesting a table by the window. I never received a response so I followed up via the website. No response again. When we arrived at the restaurant I mentioned that I had requested a window table. She said none were available and they were not able to reserve specific tables. We were seated in the middle of the room. My husband then spoke with the hostess again to ask if we might be able to be seated at a window table we noticed was vacant. She then replied, "that table is reserved." What!? Either you can or cannot reserve a table. Which one is it? We were moved to another table which was a little more out of the way of traffic, but still not a window table. Dinner was okay but nothing like the first time we dined there. We won't be back. read more

Our appetizers crab cake and calamari were tasty, only thing I felt like presentation of the food could've been better (remember we eat with our eyes first!) Entree was delicious as well had flounder and filet mignon. Another thing that prevented me to putting 5 stars in the review is the happy hour hours. When we went on a Wednesday, it says on the sign that happy hours were 5-8 but the server told us that we can only get these prices if we're sitting in the bar or outside which is strange, when it's written happy hour it should be happy hour no matter where you sit. Such a lovely discovery for lunch after leaving NOLA & heading towards the FL Panhandle. Beautiful Gulf views from the front porch & restaurant. Our service was excellent & our meals were delicious. I ordered the Twin Chimneys just because - large lump crab in a wonderfully light cheese sauce, topped with cheddar & baked. We dined here last night, and what anyone failed to mention in all the reviews I've read is the noise level. It was so loud! I felt like I was eating in a frat house or a high school cafeteria. Our server was good and efficient, but sitting across from my wife, I hade to lean in a cup my ear just to hear her. I had the oysters chimney, and it was good. My wife had fried flounder and she was disappointed. I tried a bit, and it was chewy, which is odd. The salads were very good, fresh, with no funky tasting shredded carrots. The carrots were fresh. The asparagus was cooked tender crisp as I like it, but was cold. Our cocktails were perfect. I don't think we will be back, mainly because of the high noise level due to all the other talking customers. I wanted to relax, but it was anything but relaxing trying to eat in that din. We made a reservation for my mother in law bday at 12pm but wouldn't get seated 30 min later , reason for that because that group wouldn't leave the table. I understand its sunday n its crazy time but i just don't understand why would i make a reservation when you have to wait 30 min to get seated still ?? The Chimneys used to be our family's go to place for fine dining on the Coast. Not any more. Last Friday on 10/1/21, we had reservations for Noon for a party of 5. It was my birthday celebration hosted by my sister, an annual event for us. The hostess, who was rude and condescending, would not seat us when we arrived, stating the restaurant had a "new policy." We arrive at 11:45 and the restaurant had more empty tables than filled. Being familiar with the restaurant, my daughter and I went to the bar and found my sister, who was visibly upset. The hostess was rude to her as well, telling her she had to wait in the entry area, where it was hot and humid with no place to sit. She went to the empty bar instead, as we did. This apparently infuriated the hostess. There was no bartender. We were told our waitress would bartend for our table. It turns out not only did our waitress have to bartend, she had to do everything for our table, the services most good restaurants hire other wait staff to provide. Our waitress did a outstanding job, and she was the only reason we didn't walk out. We were literally bullied by the hostess and the owner/manager, Sophie Nord. Both of these angry women came to our table several times during the meal speaking condescendingly to my sister about their "new policy" of not seating anyone until the time of their reservation. Each time one of these women came to our table I asked them politely to leave, that they were ruining my birthday celebration. At one point Sophie Nord, with her arms flailing about, screamed at me telling me I was not welcome to ever come back to "her" restaurant. What she didn't realize was we had already decided we would never be back. While our service was great, the food was not. The asparagus was not cooked and cold, and the meunière sauce was basically colored water. In fact, most everyone's food was cold. The gumbo, which is typically excellent, was watered down and had a bit of rice and hardly no seafood in it. The key lime pie was We spent over $400, tipped our waitress well, and were treated poorly. The two angry women not only acted unprofessionally, they were dressed inappropriately. The hostess had on a skin tight denim jumpsuit with spiked heels and Sophie Nord was dressed in what looked to be her pajamas, a tie-dyed off the shoulder tee with shorts. Me and my family will never go back to The Chimneys. It is obvious Sophie Nord is not following in the footsteps of her mother and father, who were gracious hosts and who knew about southern hospitality and that the customer is always right. read more
