I stopped by before 4 pm closing yesterday to buy breakfast pastries & special gift desserts. Having tasted both items on prior visits & very happy with flavor & quality I felt certain this would be the same. The almond croissant pastry was like biting into cardboard....tough with no flavor. I tasted the apple fritter....dough was better but very small amount of tiny diced apples. My review rating is not only because of awful croissant but the response from 'help' when I called and complained this morning. I stated the above about croissant and the employee apologized 4 times without offering a refund OR invitation to stop in for a FREE replacement. I would have to speak with "Vanessa" was her only reply when I asked "aren't you going to offer a free replacement or refund?" My God! Vanessa the owner needs to better train her help in customer service. It's a pricey place and customer satisfaction should be a top priority but sadly from reading prior reviews it's not. read more

Vanessa created the most beautiful and delicious cake for my stepmom's surprise 80th birthday party. I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience from start to finish. Both Jason and Vanessa were friendly and professional. We were able to plan the cake over the phone along with some email pictures to give them ideas. I was doing a piano theme, and Vanessa created the perfect cake. It was a huge hit at the party, a beautiful work of art and so delicious! The Chocolate Rose is by far my favorite bakery. Vanessa is a sweetheart and is 150% accommodating. I first started using this bakery for my wedding. She was professional, kind, and gave me exactly what I wanted. Since then, I have used this bakery for every special occasion and for weekend splurges. My 8 year says her cannoli cake and chocolate chip cookies are the best in the world. This business consistently produces high quality products that are beautifully and artistically presented. I started writing a review previously and decided not to publish it due to the negative impact it may have on The Chocolate Rose (TCR) for what could have been a bad day or bad outcome. Recently I told the story of the wedding cake from TCR to a friend and they urged me to post so I'll try to keep it as kind as possible. I purchased a wedding cake from TCR for my niece's wedding. The cake was relatively costly, a cost that would have been justified if it were perfect - but it was not perfect. The cake looked great. TCR was on time. Had we never cut the cake, it would have served as a fine display cake. The first issue came with the bride & groom cutting the cake, as it crumbled apart, making it difficult for the bride & groom to feed each other. One problem with the cake was that it was dry and crumbly. Since I paid for the cake as a special gift to my niece and her husband, I also paid attention to the cake and what people had to say. One guest (who didn't know I had paid for the cake) said she thought it was not on par with a cake from one of the local grocery stores. Other guests overhearing the comment agreed. One wedding guest told me he liked the cake because it was on the dry side, but that was a minority comment. I am not a cake eater generally but after hearing these comments I tried some. Though it was dry and crumbly, the taste was fine. Though I would never use or recommend TCR based on our experience, I recognize that the best chefs can make mistakes. Despite the mistakes, the cake still looked beautiful despite the problems with dryness and taste. If the owners are reading this - next year I look forward to hearing from my niece and her husband that the anniversary cake top was scrumptious. If that happens, I'll be sure to update my review. read more

I seem to be drawn to the Chocolate Rose because I've had four different celebrations in the last four months and I'm compelled to order a cake from them. When it comes to all their cakes, the decorating of these cakes is extraordinary...you can't wait to show it off to your recipient (in my mind, it's as good as a gift!). I will say that the cake frostings aren't as sweet as I'd like them (they definitely don't skimp on the butter but I would prefer to taste more sweetness to the butter...they explained they don't use confectioner's sugar, I'm not sure why and didn't think to ask). My son just had a birthday and since he doesn't like cakes but does like cheesecake, I requested one from them. When I picked it up, I was in awe...it was so beautiful (adding large chocolate shavings on the top, nice touch) and when we tucked into it, the flavor was fantastic...without a doubt the best cheesecake I've ever had!!! I must also add that, when I was picking up the cake, I ordered a latte and a few pastries, all delicious! And the place is really clean and extremely well decorated, very inviting! So I would recommend you visit their shop, it's worth the trip! read more
