This restaurant is above most when it comes to decor and overall atmosphere. When me and the wife just want to have a nice date night this place is always on the list. The portions and quality of food is spot on with the price. I gave it 4 stars because you have to be in the mood to go here. The reason I say that is because of the location. Parking comes down to pure luck. You can find yourself walking a good amount of distance just to eat here. Other than that I cant pick this place a part to much. The drinks, steaks, service and atmosphere are all to my liking. Went here for dinner while we were visiting FT Gordon, was real convenient being next to a mall. We opt to sit on the patio which was just great, perfect weather. I ordered the 8oz prime rib with cream spinach I ordered my steak med well. My friend ordered the same thing except her steak was ordered rare (ewww) with some shrimp scampi. Waitress was great kept checking on us, just awesome. Fast forward to when our food comes out my steak was delicious only complaint was that it was more med done than med well. The cream of spinach was so delicious I could of ate and ate the entire pot if they allowed me to. My friends food was perfectly blood like she likes it, yea what's the point of even cooking it at all lol. They forgot the shrimp scampi but when they finally did bring it out the manager came out and apologized and gave it to her free. If your expecting a shrimp scampi similar to red lobster ummm yea not the same. So we get our check and to our surprise it's Military Monday woohoo perfect!!! I like to judge the overall quality (food/service/experience) of a restaurant during two times: During peak hours, and when ordering take-out. During Peak Hours: Yes I went to the dreaded AUGUSTA Mall on a Saturday afternoon! I had a reservation, but still ended up waiting 15minutes (that was expected). Everyone (party of four) ordered an appetizer and pork chops for the main entree. The service was adequate and responsive. The restaurant was definitely staffed to handle ' rush hour ' traffic! OMG they actually used romaine lettuce for their Cesar Salad!......The Chops were cooked to perfection.....and the alcoholic beverages arrived on time! The ambiance was a little on the dark and gloomy side, however the bar area was nicely configured to allow for patrons to either sit at the bar (for food, drinks, and television), stand at the Island nook (for food, drinks, and TV), or sit at the two/four person booths (for food, drinks, and television). There was an insulated patio section and an outside eating area. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND parking on the LOWER DECK near the I-can't-remember-the-name-of-that-store-that-is-so-non-existent-that-you-assume-couldn't-possibly-turn-a-profit and entering Chop House from the outside eating area, and not the main entrance! Their main entrance is poorly...AND I MEAN POORLY configured to handle incoming and outgoing traffic! This is totally unacceptable for this caliber of restaurant! Take-out: This is where ' the magic happens'...this is where you usually get screwed, shorted, and cheated. HOWEVER, none of the above happened to me! I walked in from the outdoor patio entrance ( yes, this was the Saturday before Super Bowl) and avoided the obscene conglomeration of patrons waiting for their seats to become available! We are talking standing-room-only-barely-enough-oxygen-rock-concert-with-free-beer type of crowded! I stood off to the side of the bar. There were only two employees working the bar, but maintained a con state of awareness and kept a lookout for anyone needing any assistance! I did not have to flag the waitress down, she smoothly disengaged from the lame conversation from 'that guy', the one who-already-had-his-food-and-drink-but-insists-on-taking-up-all-of-the-waitress'-time-because-he-wants-to-feel-entitled-and-important. She took my order and said the food should be ready in 20-25 minutes. I was veeeery skeptical that I could get my food that fast with the current volume of patrons. By the way, I ordered the 20oz T-bone dinner, 9oz Filet Mignon, 1/4 slab baby back ribs dinner, and two salads. I returned 25-minutes later. Yup, you guessed it, my food was not ready. However, the waitress said "let me go check on it", and she actually went to the kitchen to check! No "wtf do you want" attitude! She came back two minutes later....and get this... she actually removed ALL my food from the plastic bags and ensured my order was correct! You can't beat that....however, it wasn't all roses because the ran out of baked potatoes.....fail! She quickly offered up some mashed potatoes in its stead. I'm glad they acknowledged, checked, and served me quickly because I wasn't exactly parked in a 'legal' location...hey it was AUGUSTA Mall on Super bowl Eve in the afternoon...so you KNOW the deal. I really wanted to give them five stars....I really did, but the food compelled me to give it three stars: 1. Running out of baked potatoes (management fail) 2. Main entrance sucks. I get it that you have a spacious area that could be used as your de facto pre sitting area, but Noooooo! These areas have their own purpose.....Dark and gloomy main, carefully and skillfully TV bar scene, screened/insulted area private party configurable, and outside patio. This leaves the OFFICIAL PRE-SITTING AREA IS A MEAGER THREE PERSON BENCH THAT LEADS INTO A ONE-WAY-ROAD-RAGE-INDUCING-INCOMING AND GOING configuration. This screams renovation! (AUGUSTA seems to have issues in regards to city planning/roadways) 3. Okay, here's where I get picky....screwing up the lamb chops (maybe this is their their technique that doesn't suit me). These are Lamb Chops man....you are the Chop House.... 3 Lamb Chops for $50, tasting more like they were pork chops with embedded imitation lamb meat....come on, you must bring your A game in regards to the Lamp Chops! I will lament that the T-bone was better than the witchcraft that they perform at T-Bonz, and their ribs were better than the if-it-wasn't-for-the-sauce-your-ribs-would-suck Shane's Rib Shack. If this was a Denny's-esque restaurant, I would have given them five stars, but for an establishment that presents itself as being high-end (yup, I spent a C-note on my Carry-out) it falls a little short. Second time here. I was here last year and did not care for the prime rib. It actually ruined prime ribs for me and I haven't eaten prime rib in over a year. Went here with a co-worker tonight and it wasn't all that bad, but it wasn't all that good either. I got the pork chop and she got the lamb chop. The portions were small for the price, in my opinion. For appetizers, we got the crispy ribs and the deviled eggs with bacon and brown sugar. The deviled eggs were honestly the best thing we ate out of everything. Our meals weren't bad, but it was nothing to rave about either. They're drinks aren't very well made. I believe they had a new bar tender, but we were not impressed. Our server was excellent. Sadly the rest was much more disappointing. First our sweet tea came out unsweetened, not a big deal for me so I drank it and on the second round it was actually sweet tea. I ordered an appetizer. Big mistake. The Ahi Tuna (seared raw fish) came out of the kitchen after a few short minutes. Something struck me as off but I couldn't put my finger on it so took a bite. Ice cold and dry. The consistency of a flaky rubber. The bed of couscous below it was a solid clump. This appetizer had been made in error the day before, refrigerated, and served to me at 5pm the following day. There's so many things wrong with that picture that my brain wasn't sure where to begin. The restaurant was prepared to charge me full price for what should have never made it past the nearest trash receptacle. They served me raw fish that had been exposed to a heat source and then almost certainly improperly cooled and stored overnight. I'd be lucky to get away with a mild case of food poisoning. I've worked in commercial kitchens, so I have a good understanding of how these things can happen and how I'd like them to be handled. I resisted the urge to walk out. I understand that bad food from the kitchen isn't the servers fault, a great server might have caught that, but responsibility falls on the cook that let it pass through the window. So I informed our server of my objections when she stopped by to check on us. She looked horrified and apologized. I was genuinely nice about it and asked her to bring it back to the kitchen. She offered to bring out another. Not on your life. Another server approached our table, she was wearing an apron, and if she was a member of management I didn't know it. She informed me that we wouldn't be charged for the appetizer (I didn't need to be told that, and truth be told, I was mildly annoyed that she felt it necessary to inform me as if she was doing me a favor) and asked if we wanted anything else. I politely said no thank you. At this point I was doing my best to move on, I'd eaten here several times and despite some bad reviews I had yet to have a bad experience. The main entree's came out, eventually. Everyone had ordered the sirloin salad, which is typically the best salad I've ever had at a restaurant. Faced with the choice of small or large we had ordered large salads and yet they came out medium sized at best. Not only were they smaller, they had been sloppily thrown together, drowned in salad dressing, and the steak was piled in a clump at the top. Not what I expected for a $20 salad. Total lack of effort, but edible. I'm not sure if the line cooks were mad that I sent the appetizer back or just incompetent, my guess is both. On that note, I understand turnover in a chain kitchen is nearly constant and they're certainly under paid. That's why someone has to watch the window and more importantly management has to prioritize quality over waste. What happened to me was not only insulting to my intelligence, it was greedy, and dangerous. When that does happen you don't send a different server to apologize, you find a manager and you make it right. It's your restaurant, don't ask me what I want you to do about it, just fix it. Even if the table doesn't ask for it I expect some sort of gesture that indicates a bit of remorse and effort to make it right. Far below expectations, for a high priced chain restaurant they left me extremely disappointed. They'll continue to have lines out the door because there's enough people in this city and not enough restaurants to make them work for it but I'll swing by McDonald's the next time I'm hungry by the mall. I won't feel great afterwards but at least there you get what you pay for. read more
