I have a feeling this place is going to be among the tragic stories where heavy investment in decor and location will be overtaken by poor service, bad planning and over estimating the patience of a tourist crowd that has plenty of choices. We came at 2:30 on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There were at least 25 EMPTY TABLES between those inside and outside on their covered deck. We were greeted (after making our way through line of a dozen potential customers) by a confused chorus of at least eight young ladies, all very eager to help. When we asked for a table for three, we were told it would be a 45 MINUTE WAIT. We were finally given a table ON THEIR UNCOVERED DOCK/PIER area....a picnic table we'd have to share with strangers. Think about this...a traditional PICNIC TABLE...shared with strangers, under an umbrella! Needless to say, we asked for a different table. The hostess apologized when I pointed out the DOZENS of empty tables inside and she said "we just don't have enough waitstaff to appropriately service all the tables! They found us a table inside! Shazam! We then tried to order crabs and we were told "we can't serve crabs at these tables, only those outside!" You have got to be @&$%# kidding me? Anyway, Diego, our waiter was GREAT. I thought the food at Choptank was really good. We had the fried oysters and wagyu meatballs for appetizer. I then had the single crab cake for dinner. Lastly, I got the passion fruit crème brûlée for dessert (it's very good but very tangy). My party and I went on a Friday around 5:30pm. You definitely seem to need reservations as they were packed. FYI - it was extremely loud inside the restaurant. I felt like I had to yell for the people sitting across from me for them to hear me and I had to keep asking them to repeat what they said. It's a nice location though with views of the water. You can either find parking on the sides of the restaurant or very close by. My only issue was our waiter, Greg- I'm not sure if he was having an off night or if there was miscommunication due to the noise level and his low talking but we had an issue with him understanding our order correctly, refilling water and checking on us and correcting an order where the food wasn't cooked all the way. The Choptank is a great addition to the Annapolis waterfront. It's a large venue with seating and a bar upstairs as well as downstairs with nice views of Ego Alley especially during the boat shows. But don't take the large space for granted and try and make reservations as the wait list gets long fast. The menu is full of great seafood options and everything our group ordered was nicely portioned and tasted great. I'm originally a MD girl and have had MD crab soup all over the state but The Choptanks' MD Crab Soup is by far the best I've ever had and it is really good when paired with the cream of crab soup for the half and half. The crab cake was full of jumbo lump and not overly breaded. The blackened catfish sandwich has a nice blackened flavor without being overly spicy. The peel and eat shrimp were enormous! And there were some really good oyster options and they were super fresh. But the star of the show was our server, Sammy. This guy is a Rock Star! He made the whole dining experience a huge success. Everything you want in a summer lunch meal with good drinks. If I suggest anything it's the mussels with lemongrass coconut sauce. You won't regret it - we basically drank the sauce at the end. Love this location! Choptank is located in the heart of Downtown Annapolis. The restaurant sits on the dock of the Chesapeake Bay, which provides stunning sunsets for date night. Onsite parking has increased, so expect to pay about $15 to park out front. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They also have a rooftop patio where the outside of it overlooks the Bay. We were not blown away with their cocktail program, but they made up for that with the food. We LOVED the crab dip. The charred cheese was amazing & the baguettes were perfectly toasted. You can never go wrong with their crabcakes. I got the platter and opted in for a side salad. The mustard vinaigrette was delicious. I'm not a big fan of coleslaw, but Choptank really showed out with theirs. It wasn't too sweet & it had the perfect crunch. We visited this restaurant on a Saturday and had a wonderful time. We had a reservation for 5:00 pm and were seated immediately which is always a plus. The restaurant is by the water and has a great view of the water so very relaxing and calm. The menu is one of the best I have seen in a long time with many great options. Our server was very attentive and nice. We started with the peel and eat shrimp which we're probably some of the biggest shrimp we have ever seen. The shrimp were also flavorful and seasoned. My Fiancée enjoyed the diver scallops for her entree which was also huge, flavorful, but still fresh. I ordered the Bronzino and got it blackened, which was a great choice. Nice size of fish also cooked to perfection. We also shared the fingerling mashed potatoes which were great. It's a dreary afternoon in Annapolis the day before the the Military Bowl. Virginia Tech and Tulane battle it out tomorrow. The city is full of great fans and spirit for tomorrows game. Went to Annapolis to do a few rounds at local restaurants for Oyster week and although they weren't doing at Choptank we decided to stay and were able to snag a great table outside without a reservation with just a 25-30 min wait, but wasn't bad because of the views with the boats. We had the mussels which were my favorite the herb-garlic white wine sauce was so flavorful and oysters with crab we yummy. Along with some really good wine the GNON unoaked Chardonnay and the MIRAVAL Rose. Definitely is on my list of restaurants to make a regular spot to visit. read more

Let's just say we went here 3 days in a row! The weather was perfect and the orange crushes were flowing so a lot of the reason for three visits was for the atmosphere and the drinks. We did eat some food and all were quite good. The Crab Cake sandwich was very good along with the French Fries. The chicken wings and artichoke hearts were also very good. We had our two small dogs with us so that was our only option. They turned away about five sets of people in front of us. It was as a 2 hour wait for anything.
