This really closer to a three. Thank God, we went on a very slow Monday evening after Mother's Day because it was manageable. I can only imagine what this place becomes on a weekend or a busy time. This is right on the Square in Annapolis and I think an institution. My friend's husband used to Barback here years ago and upon their visit, we decided to go for a quick dinner snack. It's actually quite large and there's a lot of different types of seating. You can sit at the bar. You can sit at the inside courtyard with a tree in it. You can sit outside even! The food is nothing really special they do have a dollar oysters which I think is really fun but like I said they're dollar oyster so they're not that delicious. I did really like their cocktail sauce and mignonette that is kind of a travesty. But again, this is an Irish pub with a little bit of a diverse menu. The crab dip is classic. I feel like no one messes up a crab dip in Maryland. My husband and I decided to give it a try because the local online news outlets rated their crabcakes in the top 5. We were amazed at how good the food was. The crabcake is definitely one of the best in Annapolis. It is all lump, not overly seasoned. I asked to substitute the bread with crackers, and they knew exactly what I wanted: saltine crackers, great. The coleslaw was the best, not lettuce and cabbage from a bag with some mayo thrown in. The hamburger was awesome, seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. This restaurant will definitely be in our rotation. The day after my best friend's son graduated from the Naval Academy this year, we had brunch/lunch at McGarvey's on May 24. Ended up being a mix of briney and more sweet oysters but they were large and very fresh. Now for the food, I did not care for the bland tasting gumbo (which is usually somewhat spicy) that I ordered as well as the crab ball that I tasted from my counterpart. Plus I didn't like the fact that my butter packets for my bread were in my soup along with the long hair. This restaurant has also been a daily dining resource for these future Naval officers. My favourite is their local oysters for $1 each , great seafood selections . I had the seafood combo today that featured oysters , clams , crabs and boiled shrimps $38 , in addition I ordered another a dozen oysters for $12 and blackened seared tuna for $16 just for myself . All the seafood was super fresh especially the oysters . The price is reasonable considering the center of the tourist spot . It's alright for a "bar/saloon". Just make sure you ask to be seated in the inner room. Sobering had apparently "spilled last night" in the front of the restaurant which left a whiff of hot garbage every time the door opened. At least the staff was nice enough to move us to the inner room. It's also nice that the staff has overheard us talking about the soft shell crabs and had made an effort to explain they are currently out and it's out of season as well. For food, my salmon fresco was lackluster. I thought it would be more like salmon mixed into an orzo pasta and something.. well, refreshing.. instead, you get a deep plate with a layer of olive oil... Followed by the orzo, asparagus, tomatoes, and small cubes of butternut squash. The dish is topped off with a salmon filet, feta cheese on top and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette all over. The dish, besides the heavy overkill of olive oil is grossly sweet. The only paletible item is the filet, and it's short lived. I definitely should've ordered the Atlantic salmon instead, but I don't I'll actually be back. read more
