As a South Asian, I'm pretty tough on other South Asian restaurants because I grew up with such amazing food. The Cinnamon Club is a posh / white tablecloth service restaurant. We were here after work with a large group and the service did not meet the image it gives. Understanding our group was large but the food didn't come out coordinated. Their lamb had mentioned that there is a 25min wait.. but I would expect them to leverage appetizer time to cook it and coordinate with the rest of the meal. Two of our party got their meal as the rest of us were finishing. When we all finished dinner, we realized another one of our coworker was just getting his dinner (fish)! We enjoyed the Cinnamon Club our last evening in London and it was a great way to end the trip. Such a staple establishment and with rich history that it is a fine dining experience you dont want to miss. Prior to becoming a restaurant it was an actual library, and they include the story and imagery to show it's history. I love that they have kept the essence with the library shelving and books.. your check even comes in a book. The food and service here were exquisite.. it felt improper to take out my phone or I would have more photos to show, but I did take a few at dessert time. The staff was friendly and helpful in providing recommendations. The wine and cocktail lists were plentiful. They also had a nice tea list, some beer options, and plenty of non-alcoholic spritzers (as was pretty common in London). The menu has a selection of meals from another chef, for those who can't handle even the mild heat of Indian cuisine. There is not a kids menu and as expected with Indian food, most of the food has a kick to it. I ordered tandoori chicken and a side of rice for my children, and they provided a tomato sauce (similar to a tikka masala sauce) for the kids to dip into; my son enjoyed the cucumber yogurt sauce to cut the bite of the spice. The food was spectacular. I had a scallops dish as a starter, then the lamb curry which was wonderful. My husband had the prawns with vermicelli, and my in-laws both had a chicken dish. We also enjoyed a selection of naans. We all polished off our plates with ease, and continued into after dinner drinks and dessert. The bathrooms here are downstairs in an area seemingly without heat.. bc it was freezing in there!! But there are additional seating areas as well. It's usually difficult for me to give that final star, but this place really has a way of sneaking up and surprising you in the most pleasant ways. The space itself is located next to the Education Centre near Westminster Abbey- yes, that Westminster Abbey- inside of the old Westminster Library, complete with bookshelves galore, but minus the musty scent. The menu is impressively varied without being too overwhelming. As the name suggests, this place is known for its spice-laden food; however, the spices are used to enhance the flavor, as opposed to hiding any lack of freshness to the food. They offer a modest selection of wines, gins, cocktails, and whiskeys, all carefully selected to pair well with their unique menu items. If alcoholic beverages aren't your thing, there is also a nice variety of teas, non-alcoholic cocktails, and high-quality coffee from Italy to give you something other than water to wash down your meal. I went with the epic Balmoral Estate Venison medallions and mashed potatoes, with a side of potato-filled spiced naan bread. Let me tell you, that thing was worth every penny. Perfectly-spiced, tender meat, well-balanced with the small portion of carbs... nothing left to be desired. The chewiness of the naan bread paired with it perfectly. Usually, dessert is never necessary for me, but with a main this good, I had to see how they were outdoing themselves with the final part of the meal. My server highly recommended the Passionfruit Brulée with a glass of French dessert wine to pair. A fruity twist on the classic Crème Brulée, topped with a crispy peppercorn pastry and deep-fried dough mixed in for that delicious chewy texture. It is, easily, one of the best desserts of my life. And, the wine washes it all down perfectly; not too sweet, not too dry. With food this good, I wouldn't care if the service had treated me like trash. However, even that was as good as it gets. Every server I encountered- and I encountered many- was as sweet as one could hope for. The experience was worth every penny. read more

Well worth it for the food - yum! We visited The Cinnamon Club on our first night in London (must have reservations). Everything was delicious. For Americans, and especially southerners, the portion sizes are huge so feel comfortable ordering 2 small plates/starters if you want variety. The aubergine was my favorite of the starters - smoky, sweet, crisp GF batter, and perfectly tender inside. The chicken breast was really flavorful and cooked to perfection. Drinks were just okay. They're supposed to have a gin and tonic cart, but when I asked for it, a pre made cocktail showed up to the table. It seemed most diners opted for a la carte rather than the tasting menu option. Ambiance is also incredibly unique; the restaurant is in a magnificent old library filled with high ceilings of books. A lot of the walls are mirrored and make the room look even more grand and spacious. The restaurant is on a very quiet street at night and easy to miss. Service... this is where there were misses and confusion that drop my review to 4 stars. First, we arrived about 5 min early for our reservation. The host walked us to the downstairs bar; he was very friendly and we chatted for a few minutes before he left us with our drinks. 20 min went by without updates and so we asked the bar host, who then checked the computer, went upstairs, came back, and told us our table is ready. Our server seemed nonchalant at best. The food came out pretty quickly but there was very limited friendly interaction. And finally, the state of the restroom was more of what you'd expect in a bus station than a fine dining establishment. Eek. But its worth looking past these things - the flavors are truly excellent and some of the most delicious modern Indian dishes I've ever had. read more

Used my Citibank to pay and was declined so I paid cash and did not get a receipt. Called Citibank out of California and they said that there was no transaction recorded as declined and that my card was not blocked due to travel to UK and had sufficient funds. I had the pleasure of dining at the Cinnamon Club in Westminster on Friday July 12th. This restaurant located down the street from the Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament was absolutely amazing. The building that now currently occupies the Cinnamon Club used to be the Westminster Library. The Westminster Library occupied the space between 1872-1996. When the Westminster Library vacated the space there was some debate about what should replace the Westminster Library. There were talks about replacing the Westminster Library with a bar but ultimately it was decided that a restaurant would be a better fit for this beautiful space. In 2001 the Cinnamon Club moved into this space and has occupied this gorgeous space from 2001- present day. When the Westminster Library vacated the space a large number of the library books were left for the next occupant of this beautiful building. These library books line the walls of this beautiful space on beautiful shelves really adding to the amazing ambience of this beautiful space. The owners of the Cinnamon Club bought more books to fill the empty spaces on the book shelves. The beautiful decor, amazing innovative creative Indian food, our attentive servers Akaba and Fawaz really made for a wonderful dining experience. Our dining experience started with us being offered an absolutely delicious complementary starter by the manager of the Cinnamon Club Sachin Nagar. The manager was very attentive and accommodating and gave us so many mouth watering suggestions for our starter and entree. After much delibration I decided to order the Grilled New Caledonian Obsiblue King Prawns, Alleppey sauce and rice vermicelli. I am so glad that I ordered the Grilled New Caledonian Obsiblue King Prawns, Alleppey sauce and rice vermicelli. My shrimp was cooked to perfection and coated with a delicious sauce and placed on a delicious bed of vermicelli rice. It was absolutely delicious! The ambience and the food is a winning combination. At the end of the meal your bill is brought to you in one of the library books from the book shelves in the dining area. We were recommended this restaurant by an acquaintance of one of the owners. The service was embarrassingly bad. I gave it two stars as the food was good. It started off with one of the oddest service encounters I have ever had dinning out. Our reservations were 7:00. We arrived at 6:55. We were told that our reservations were at 8:00 and we would have to wait in the bar. As my wife started pulling up our open table reservations, they sent us an email stating that they changed our reservations were 8:00. This is documented in emails. We decided to wait in front. The hostesses were snotty about it and sat us in ten minutes. We got the wobbly table in the corner. This table should have been removed and is not suitable even in a coffee shop. The waiter was condescending in what my wife ordered. He tried to up sell her in the specials, and she pointed out that she does not eat what he suggested. He was not happy about it. When I asked what kind of alcohol was in a house drink, he did not know. He did come back with a bottle later to show me. At one point the table on our left and the three other tables to our right were all trying to get anyone to come over. Both tables next to us were done with no food and could not get a bill. Another table a few over had the bill and started tapping his credit card on a glass trying to get a waiter. Both our table and the one just over had no water, the other table was trying to get a chiller for his wine and water. It was brutal trying to get anyone over. Then there were other small items. We had naan bread. It was crispy so there were crumbs all over from eating, not a big deal, they did not clean up until we were about to leave. At one point my wife was bumped in the back very hard by one of the servers while they started setting up the table next to us. Nothing was said by the server. As said in other reviews the waiter was very pushy for a tip. We did leave one. My wife was surprised at how low the bill was. Then I reminded her that we were going to order another starter, another drink and more water. About 60 pounds more in orders that were could not get in due to the poor service. At least this place will be memorable from our trip. The person that recommended it asked the next day how it was and was mortified about our experience. At least it was worth a laugh. I really enjoyed my solo trip to this restaurant. Service was certainly the highlight, but the food was fantastic as well. I selected the Summer Festival tasting menu. It was great! The food wasn't too heavy, which was perfect for the mood I was in. As long as you don't expect fully 'authentic' Indian food, you won't be disappointed. The food here is more of a hybrid haute cuisine (French-style) and Indian twist, and it was outstanding. Upon arrival, I was offered a seat in the cocktail bar, a really nice library room with great chill ambiance. I had a wonderful Old Fashioned. When my table was ready, they came to usher me to the table. Service was really outstanding - it was attentive, professional, and helpful. I chose the items on the menu suggested by the head waiter, and I don't regret a single choice. I started with a chutney sorbet, which was really nice and refreshing. It followed with the trout and then the lamb - both were outstanding. Finally, it ended with the crème brûlée, which was amazingly good. Odd and Slow, that's how I would describe this place. As others have noted, The Cinnamon Club is a well-regarded restaurant with a great history but our experience was not what we expected. We arrived at 7 pm on a Monday evening and the restaurant was more than 75% filled, we had a party of 7 people and were not offered drinks while we were waiting for our table to be readied. Here's the odd thing, there is a fixed-price seasonal menu that is inserted into the main menu like a flyer. Some of us wanted to order from the fixed-price menu (60 GBP) and some wanted to order ala carte but the waiter insisted that everyone at the table had to order from the fixed-price menu or none of us could. This is very strange because restaurants will make more money from an ala-carte order (typically) than from a fixed-price menu. Our waiter was rather rude and uncaring and didn't explain why we had to do this even though we were all perplexed. The service for this 5-course meal was extremely slow, with more than half an hour between some plates. For one of our group they got the order incorrect for the main, and the wait was so long that everyone had finished their mains that the person had to skip in order to get back in sync. The worst was the last dessert course, it was sliced carrot cake not even made on premises with a 30-minute wait. We were appalled and couldn't get out fast enough to get to bed. Four hours for dinner is fine on a Saturday night at a top French restaurant but not Monday night at an Indian restaurant. I am sure there are better places in London, we won't be revisiting. read more

I was really hoping to love this spot after so much research on Indian Food in London. Most everyone was friendly but there were several food runners that just did not provide the level of service expected when you chose the tasting menu. No descriptions of the food for half my dishes and my drink sat empty several times before getting another beverage. The food was below average and it all seemed pre-prepared and not fresh. The venison dish was WELL DONE and mealy. I would have mentioned it to a manager but not a single one came to my table to ask about my experience. For $155 I could have enjoyed a much better meal in many other places. Contrary to what you read online this is NOT the best Indian restaurant in London and I will never visit again. read more

I had a last minute cancellation and had some free time to grab a quick bite to eat. Since I wasn't from the area I solicited a recommendation from the hotel staff at Park Plaza for an Indian restaurant. They suggested the Cinnamon Club which was within 15 mins walking distance. Who has not gone to the Cinnamon Club or Kitchen in London? I suspect everyone has been. I know this is not supposed to be Indian French but it felt that way to me. Modern Indian food with excellent bread and dessert selection. Great selection of appetizers followed by very generously portioned entree with more French than Indian in presentation. Do NOT miss this London experience! The Westminster library setting is gorgeous, the food is fabulous and the staff is incredible! This was our first time to try Indian cuisine and it was wonderful. The flavors were amazing. We loved everything we tried! But the treasure of the Cinnamon Club is the staff. Simranjeet took such good care of us. He answered questions and checked many times that we were enjoying our food. The rest of the staff was also kind and welcoming and professionally attentive. The atmosphere is beautiful, yet lacking. Yes, there are a lot of books, but it doesn't feel like a library in any way -- none of that cosy feel. The downstairs with the facilities was terribly under-maintained. I don't mean it wasn't clean, but the finishes were truly worn out visually and effectively. The introduction to service was wonderful -- very attentive. This decreased greatly as meal progressed and when it came time for the bill, we twice had to get up and seek someone out. There were approximately 5 different people serving us which also made things difficult, as we did not feel watched over by anyone in particular. The mains were fabulous, no question. The cocktails were uninspiring as they tried so hard to be inspiring, and I had to amend mine with a few ingredients brought from the bar to make the thing potable. The desserts were so awful sounding, that despite it being my son's 20th birthday, we skipped this course. We dine frequently on fine food, but/and this trend of trying so hard to use unusual or "surprising" ingredients is getting annoying. Using strong savory notes in a dessert is off-putting. If I wanted a non-sweet finish, I'd order one. Cumin and saffron, for example, do not belong in desserts. I just now looked and it appears that in the last 3 weeks they have fully changed their dessert offerings and have moved away from this nonsense, so that is good. I don't know. As I say, the food was good, but somehow the whole evening was *less* than the sum of its parts. read more

For my first trip to the UK, I was really looking forward to trying some LEGIT Indian food. A co-worker recommended Vivek Singh's Cinnamon Club, so we made a reservation. It sounded conceptually awesome! As we jumped out of our Uber, it was hard to tell we were at the right place, as the entrance is a bit unwelcoming. The atmosphere was very contemporary. From the bright lighting and modern furniture to the service, we were set up for a fine dining experience. But that's not actually what we experienced... We started with a selection of chutneys. 3 arrived... one was delightfully spicy and the other two were siiiiiickly sweet. I've had my fair share of stateside naan and hoped my UK experience would be even more flavorful. Not at all... all of the bread was fine at best. The varieties were lost on me. My tablemate and I decided to share the "Old Delhi style" butter chicken on the bone which came with, black lentils, pilau rice and more garlic naan. We added the chilled bitter melon, pickled shallot and cucumber salad, and the home-style split yellow peas with cumin. First up, the sides were mediocre. The only thing that stood out was the bitter melon salad, which had an incredible flavor and texture. Everything else was surprisingly bland! Like, scratch your head bland, why is there no salt on the table bland. And for the chicken? The sauce and flavors were INCREDIBLE. Deep, dark, full of mouth feel and just... wow wow wow. But... for some bizarre reason, as it was prepared table side, I was served only wing parts, while my companion got thigh and white meat... cutting through and trimming meat off the bone when I just wanted to eat was beyond disappointing. We only realized the strange serving error as we shared notes after the dinner in our cab. Will I be back? More than likely not. For the price and flavors, it's just not worth it. Visited the restaurant with my hubby to test out the late night menu. The food was really good and it wasn't crowded at all. I guess I was mostly surprised by how different their sauce taste and look like as opposed to what I am used to the kind of Indian food in US. I am used to the bright color and heavy sauced Indian food so to have similar taste but presented in a completely different way was very pleasant. I also recommend the early or late dinner set menu. It's very reasonably priced and great for healthy eats, if there is a such thing as healthy eats in Indian cuisine :p read more

We could tell this place would be wonderfully delicious just walking down the street before we ever got there. The aromas wafting through the streets of London were absolutely sublime and we were literally salivating by the time we got there. I cannot tell you the names of all the dishes we had but as there were a group of us suffice it to say that we pretty much tried one of everything on the menu and a couple of dishes we re-ordered and they were all absolutely fantastic and flavorful! Such a wonderful pairing of spices and seasonings and again the aroma was absolutely divine and I recommend you go to what I think is one of the few Michelin starred Indian restaurants in the world:-) read more
