I've worn my Tag Calibre 5 daily since 2015 with zero issues until the dial shifted. Took it to The Clock Doctor and was told it needed a full service. Paid just over $400 expecting a solid fix. About two weeks later, the watch stopped working. I brought it back and was told it was still under warranty, so they "resolved" it, but also mentioned I'd likely need to replace a faulty part soon. If that part was faulty, why wasn't it caught and addressed during the original service? That's what the service should have covered. [[HIGHLIGHT]]To make things worse, user negligence was subtly implied, despite the fact that the watch had run flawlessly for nearly a decade until the service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It has now stopped working again and doesn't run at all. Also noticed the dial isn't properly aligned after the service. It's subtle, but definitely wasn't an issue before. So, I've had a Grandfather Clock for over 19 years. I purchased it out of state and it's gone through several moves and several repairs over the years. Most recently, we made a local move and for some reason, this clock just didn't want to continue to function. Several months of missing that beautiful sound of the chimes, I did some research through Yelp.There are many repair shops to chose from however, some had not been active with reviews for several years and a few low star ratings for others until I came across Clock Doctor. This location has been in the Valley since the 60's and they have rave review from past and present customers. The process was super simple. When I called on Friday of last week (in the evening) ; I spoke to one of their clock repair guys. Explained my situation and he told me that he would have their office staff get in touch with me to see the next time the service tech would be in my area and they could then schedule an appointment. I received a call back within about 10 minutes and it just so happened that the tech would be in my area on Tuesday, so a timeframe was scheduled. I felt extremely fortunate as generally (as the service tech told me) they're booked out at-least two weeks in advance! Yesterday (Monday) they called to confirm my appointment. Today, my repair man Chris was suppose to be here at 2:00 PM. He was a head of schedule and called me to see if he could arrive earlier which was fine with me! He arrived about 1:25 PM and started right in. He was impressed with the age & stage of the clock and what great shape it was in. That said, he knew it had been some time since it had been serviced. Took him a total of about 30 minutes (or less) to determine that it just needed to be balanced, fine tuned and oiled the bearing points on the front and back plates. Was so relieved to know it was nothing major and that no parts were missing as that is what my husband and I initially believed. Chris was super professionally, knowledgeable and thorough. Extremely happy with choosing Clock Doctor. The full service along with the house call for repairs was $175 total. If parts are needed, this is included in the cost, as well as an oil treatment & a 1 year warranty. *Note- You should oil your clock's mechanism every 3-5 years to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. Also, this company will pick up and take parts to their shop in Scottsdale if it's a bigger job that requires more time and attention and will bring it back for install. BTW, If you're moving they offer their services to break down, pack and relocate your Grandfather Clock, then unpack and put it back together in your new place at a reasonable fee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The following Monday, the shop called and informed me of an 8-month crystal backorder and uncertainty about the screw, but said they would see if they could find a generic crystal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After no updates, I called Friday and spoke to Adam, who was dismissive, and seemingly inconvenienced, saying he's not sure why I hadn't heard back, but that "we are very busy here."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I said, "no problem, if you're too busy to give me an update on the repair, then I will be by later to pick it up." Adam replied, "okay." My understanding is Clock Doctor is a family owned business. Generally, I have found family owned businesses seem to understand the value of their custom base much more than large retailers. I believe this is probably the case with Clock Doctor, but sometimes a company's core values are not always appropriately reflected by their employees. In any event, after searching for a new watch repair store, I learned that most watch manufacturers today have a simple and convenient process to ship a watch directly to a repair facility. In this case, Bulova indicates most repairs take about 10 business days to complete and returned to their customers. I wish Clock Doctor success, but I will not patronize the business again. I live on the east coast where the amount of snobbery surrounding watch repair is insane. I took my broken vintage watch to a few places locally, and they all gave me absurd quotes without them even opening up the case back. It was clear they wanted nothing to do with it. The Clock Doctor was different. I dropped in while visiting family in the area and they were more than happy to take a look at the watch. They opened the case back in front of me and although they couldn't identify the issue immediately, they were willing to work on it. I was told it would take 12-16 weeks, but at that point I didn't care. I just wanted someone to fix it. The watch was ready 10 weeks later and they shipped it out to me. Long story short, the watch was damaged during shipment twice. The Clock Doctor honored their warranty each time and took it back for repairs. I called back a week later and they said yes they took $100 deposit and said it shouldn't be more than that. They took five months to repair a pocket watch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to call twice to check on the repair status only to find they hadn't even started.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Wow! I finally picked up the watch and, after one week, it seems to be running fine. Then, the amount charged on my credit card statement was 3% higher than the credit card receipt they handed me. When questioned, The Clock Doctor informed me there's a sign near the cash register stating 3% will be added to the total sale. But wait, the added 3% is not reflected on the credit card receipt! So, the credit card statement doesn't reconcile with the bank statement. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Clock Doctor representative on the phone said, "if it makes you happy, come back to the store and I'll show you the sign".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Are you kidding me? I have two cherished clocks that had problems. The grandfather clock I built from a kit many years ago. I had replaced the Hemle clock part 15 yrs ago but it had developed a problem with the chimes missing 12 o'clock and only going to 1. The second clock is an 1870 French Mantle Clock and the bell clapper had broken. I removed both clock parts and took them into the store. I have been a customer for over 20 yrs. First, let me preface things by saying that I have inherited and/or purchased about a dozen antique clocks in my lifetime. Some are worth thousands of dollars; others are just sentimental; however, they are priceless to me. This is especially true for the clocks I inherited, as I have lost my entire family and all I physically have of my parents and grandparents are my clocks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My husband took my grandmother's antique clock to them in May 2024. He was told the clock was worthless. Yes, that is fully understood. Though it may be worthless to them, it is extremely valuable to me, which is why we are willing to invest in it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fast forward to the clock being ready, which was seven months and $425 later. The clock is worse than it was before. I am not sure what they did, but I will need to take it to someone else who will fix it. Maybe it is because they are in a specialized industry and they have the market in this area, but their resulting work on my clock was unacceptable. Clock Doctor Located off of Shea and Scottsdale Road area, had on GPS to locate and the GPS took me around the block in right turns until I almost drove by it. Took in 3 - Tag Heuer watches to get battery replaced and was charged $13.50 per watch which some of the big jewelers would not touch. The old place where I took in for battery replacement was demo-ed in the portion of PV Mall . They told me there was a problem with the ladies Tag which we will see. Hopefully I found a place through all the Yelp reviewers that I can take my watches for repairs in the future. At $13.50 for a replacement battery, I honestly don't know how they make any money, The 3 watch battery replacements were done in 5 - 8 minutes and as a Yelper, when you check in , there is a 50% off one watch battery coupon popup.
