(I prefer bytes/Ivan's over CBTL, mostly because their beans are more aromatic stronger and flavorful over there.) the espresso drinks at CBTL taste very watered down. Let me begin by saying that I'm a Starbucks regular, and I always will be. But when I'm in need of a quick fix while I'm on campus at UCR, I'll 'settle' for Coffee Bean. If it's not already obvious, try not to come here in-between classes. The lines are always super long, but it goes by quite quickly. These employees know how hustle, and I commend them for that! I'll order and get my drink within 15 minutes most of the time. Another plus is that even though I'm here about every other day when I'm on campus, I haven't run into an unfriendly employee yet. YAY!~ I have quite a bit of a sweet tooth, so only consider my recommendations if you have a killer craving for extremely sweet drinks -- The Ultimate: FIRST drink I've ever had at any Coffee Bean. Not on the menu, but very delicious! It's a little chocolate-y with blended in coffee beans? Top it off with whipped cream, and it's decadent! A little on the pricey side, but whatevers~ Check your teeth after for any little black bits that may be stuck in between. Ice blended white chocolate: Generous amount of chocolate syrup on the cup and the concoction is then topped off with more chocolate syrup. Can't really taste the "white" in the white chocolate part, but there's plenty of ice blended into it which melts rather quickly...and makes the entire drink taste AND look disgusting. Drink it up fast on a hot day! Peppermint Jasmine Tea: It's different. I was expecting a very refreshing "ahhh" from the peppermint, but it wasn't that. It definitely tasted a tad bit minty, but it wasn't strong enough for my taste. For a $4 regular, it was a-okay. Coffee Bean is nothing special. Their drinks are pricier than Starbucks, their drinks are completely different from Starbucks, so if it wasn't so convenient, I probably would never go to another Coffee Bean. read more

The tea is all that is really worth purchasing at coffee bean. Everything has shrunk in portion sizes for their oatmeal and yogurt parfaits. Their drinks are really overpriced, and sometimes they're really slow and backed up. I've had other drinks from different The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf locations, but this has been one of the more disappointing places. I generally tend to purchase a coffee from the c-store just because the price is more budget-conscious and wallet-friendly. read more

I am not pleased with the service at coffee bean. I rarely go to get coffee on campus and i guess i won't be any longer. The last time i went, i ordered a hot Chai tea latte. 20 minutes later, my name was called and they hand me an iced drink. I mentioned to the man that i ordered a hot drink, he said immediately to come back later for a free drink because i was already late to class due to how long they took. I grabbed a straw and took a sip to find out this was not the drink i ordered at all, instead it was an ice coffee. I went back inside and told the same man what happened. I waited very patiently while three employees tried to ring up a fourth employee. None of them acknowledged me for minutes on end, and there appeared to be a fifth person working on ordering for the store or making a schedule or something. Finally, a guy walked up to wait in line, and they asked him if they could help the next person. He mistakenly thought it was him, when I had been waiting there for an unreasonable amount of time. I had to step in and tell the girl that I was next, even though it was hard for me to believe that they did not know I was there waiting to order. The girl that made my latte, the 6th employee I saw working that night, was very friendly, so, my visit wasn't totally filled with rude thoughtless people. Really tasty drinks and snacks but there is one particular staff member that is rude as heck. I think her name is Kassandra. She doesn't smile or try to help explain the drinks and she seems as if she hates her job. I get it, I'm a college student too and some days are just not great. However, it seems as if everyday when I come in, she acts like this. Other employees try to help her sometimes too and she frowns back at them. Other than that, most of the other employees are really helpful in recommending drinks etc. It's a cute little spot to cool down and catch up with someone but I don't recommend studying there since it gets really busy. read more

I love this coffee bean! Even when the line is long the service is really fast, there are always workers behind the register to help you and they are very fast. I always get the Caramel Ice blended with whipped cream and make it an ultimate. Making it an ultimate costs about 50 cents more and they add chocolate covered coffee beans and blend it into the drink it tastes so good! You can also add shots and replace milk with soy milk. read more

I am not writing to complain about the fact that this place is always packed to the brim with students that need to be caffeinated, i am complaining about many many other things instead, which is sad because that just goes to show that everything about this place is terrible in general. first of all, what is up with the powders by the milk station? at starbucks they have syrups, which makes sense to me. granted, they charge you for a shot of them, but anything is better than some hazelnut powder at the milk counter. if you get an iced coffee, dont even try to put that crap in there because it sits on the top and floats around like little white pieces of grossness. its completely unappetizing. secondly, they do not refrigerate their various milks at said milk counter. i dont care if its in a thermos brand thermos, there is no way that the milk is actually kept at the appropriate temperature, which really grosses me out as well. and i like milk in my iced coffee, but not enough to risk drinking spoiled milk. thirdly, the regular coffee and the ICED coffee (EXACTLY THE SAME THING BUT ON ICE) is 50 cents more. this is ridiculous to me. i shouldnt be charged 50 cents more for coffee that is old and kept in the refrigerator. i would prefer some of their fresh brewed hot coffee put on ice anyway, but god forbid you ask for that because they wouldnt know what to do...which brings me to my next point.... the service here. ugh. i get it. you hate your job because hundreds of disgruntled students heckle you daily about their coffee, but it is no reason to not give me what i want when i ask for it. i ordered an ICED coffee (yes, i paid 50 cents more for the crappy refrigerated version of real fresh coffee) and when i do this i expect to actually have, yanno, ice in it. no. this had literally 1/4 cup of crushed ice (i hate crushed ice, but whatever, thats not their fault) so i ask the manager behind the counter if i could get a LARGE cup FULL of ice so i can have actual ice in my coffee and this bitch straight gives me a medium cup full of ice. so i ask again, i would like a LARGE cup full of ice, my coffee wont even all fit in there and i will have to carry around two cups. so she gives me this snoody attitude and goes "we dont usually give away the large cups but i guess." bitch, this is your job and you are a manager. if the customer asks for something, give it to them. simple. quit your job if you dont like it. i dont care. i wont miss you. just give me what i want. its simple. i know this is long, but honestly, i hate this place with a passion and i keep going and hoping that the next time will be better. no, never. it consistently disappoints me. why oh WHY couldnt they have put a STARBUCKS in?!!! curse you, UCR, for giving us an inferior coffee establishment. coffee bean= BLEGH! read more

The drinks are not very consistent with the richness and bold flavors of other Coffee Bean locations outside of UCR. The iced lattes taste sweet more than anything else. There should be a firm balance between the sweetness and boldness derived from the coffee bean shots. The order and way the drinks are made is important. This is my favorite spot to meet my friends for coffee. I usually get an iced black coffee or their peach green tea. Both are fabulous.

The service is only so-so, but their drinks actually taste like something I want to drink as opposed to the watery diarrhea Starbucks tries to pass off as fit for human consumption. Starbucks has great service, and that usually counts for much more, but not when it comes to my caffeine. Flavor over friendliness, people. Their drinks are so good that I would probably still leave with a huge grin on my face if one of the employees flipped me off and told me I was uglier than Bruce Vilanche. That did not happen, mind you. The employees are not very warm, but they are fast and I appreciate that. I don't need to make a new friend every time I order coffee. This particular CBTL is a poor excuse for the real thing. I had hoped that since CBTL had their name on it they would have a firm hand in training and quality control, unfortunately this student run location churns out food and beverages at the same quality as the rest of the HUB: terrible quality and worse customer service. CBTL should really step in to fix things, today I ordered an iced coffee that tasted very very bad, I complained to the staff and asked if I could get a tea or another roast and she actually argued with me saying there was nothing wrong with the coffee and refused to help me. Yep, I will just add this to my reasons why CBTL on UCR campus is only a place a turn to out of desperation. I'll make sure to take the extra 10 minutes to stop by Starbucks next time and get what I pay for. read more

However, I dont know if it's because it's on a campus or what, but a frappecino cost me $5 instead of the $4 that starbucks charges. This coffee bean cab get very loud, especially because it is packed with students that are just about to get their coffee before heading to class or those who are just getting out. The best times to get your coffee right away without having to wait a good 10-15 min is right when the store opens at 7am, around 11am, and after 5pm. Other than those times People will have to wait about 10-15 min maybe even a little longer depending on the amount of people that are there during the peak hours which are 9-1045 and around lunch time.. The baristas are friendly and are willing to help customers, even during rushes. But when they have their screens full of drinks and are backed up about 10-15 min I can see that it can be a little difficult trying to help the customer when they are trying their best to get the customer's drink out so that we can be on our way. But I think they try their best. Considering that the baristas are students too I commend them for working so hard, I always see The baristas running back and forth because they are trying their best. It can be a little hard to study in this shop due to the loudness from all the students in line trying to get their caffeine fix , but a pair of headphones drowns out all the noise right away. Ok, so my latte was okay, but they use POWDER, not syrup for sugar free. You can tell at the bottom of the cup. It's good that they have green options-you can get your coffee in a regular re-usable glass for "here" or a to go cup. Here was the kicker - DON'T buy the cupcakes. They taste funny, they keep them cold to keep them "fresh" (it didn't work) AND it tasted like coffee grounds. It was a "Happy Birthday" cupcake - white with white icing and sprinkles. It was very small, way expensive (3.00) and tasted TERRIBLE. They also take a L O N G time to make your coffee - and I was the only person in line. read more

There was one career worker that was really rude. I brought in my own cup and just asked for an iced water. When I was getting my water, the career lady said "you know you can get it yourself." They get 5 stars because: - they do pretty good considering they are all busy college students - the wait is long but it is because there on a college campus and thus get bombarded with drinks like every hour - they are willing to make your drink over if it isn't made to your standards - friendly cashiers (not the blonde lady) - they have a great selection of powders to customize your drink at the section by the door -they have made my drink usually under 5 minutes. -they have an amazing tea selection - i love their black forest drink!!! read more

I'm a barista at another Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf here in California, my friend and I were heading out for a hike and made our way to this location. (because I always brag about our service) And in was not greeted when I walked in, no one welcomed me to a cash register, I ordered two small drinks with substitutions, unfortunately I was not asked the proper "for here" or "to go" question nor was I asked about SAH. when I received my drinks the barista was not the friendliest and my drinks were the wrong size. Also, I asked about my soy latte because of my allergy and it had to be remade. I will no longer brag unless its about my location because sadly I was unhappy with my service today. read more

Personally I believe this establishment is overall great. yeah they could improve on a couple of things but what place can't. if you people below want to complain about it being so busy, so loud, and untasteful (which i completely am in an unagreeable tone with, because their drinks are far better than any other) then don't go there, you're not that wanted if you give them crap about making a drink that you asked for and its not up to what kind of standard you like.. all you would have to do is ask them to remake it .. and they would! This coffee bean does get really busy, but that is because of all the massive people(students) that go there to order. This coffee beans drinks are far better than the starbucks down the street, but if you prefer to NOT chill, hang out with friends, or just sit there then that place really isn't meant for you to stay there, as it gets really loud by all the students cramming inside to try and get their caffeine fix. if you there to study it can be done, but only for those people that like a little noise. Even when the Batista's, which i think do a pretty good job of gettin drinks out considering they have to make at least 20-35 within a 20 minutes during a rush, which is in the big lecture halls get out or lunch comes around. Only thing one must have when they are there is patience, reason being being because it is always busy there and one can expects to wait about 4 min for a drink because of all the others, i am not kidding when i say this place gets crazy busy... the Batista's even look like they are working hard.. working fast to the point where some even look like they are sweating, so don't think they are being lazy because they are trying their best. I'm a Starbucks lover so, having a coffee bean on campus was a little disappointing for me. The coffee here is alright, it all tastes artificial compared to Starbucks. I tried a lot of drinks here, but the only two that I kind of like are the iced americano and the matcha ice blend. I only get them when I'm desperate for caffeine or want something cold on a hot day. Usually I don't have time during the day to make a Starbucks run, but I'd be MUCH happier if they converted it to a Starbucks. The service here SUCKS, there are a few really nice, really helpful people, but more than five times my order was forgotten or lost or whatever, I end up waiting more than ten minutes then having to ask someone to check it, they come back saying it wasn't put in or something. Today it happened with my onion bagel, I ordered it toasted, waited fifteen minutes, asked someone to check, she came back with my bagel and I left because I was late. I sat in class and opened up my bag and found that the bagel WASN'T FREAKING TOASTED! It's like she saw me waiting for a long time and tried to get it to me fast by putting it in the oven for like ten seconds! It was warm, but it wasn't toasted! I hate this place so much, idk if it's because there are students working or what, but I am fed up! If I didn't need my daily dose of caffeine, I would never in a million years come here! read more

The last time I visited The Coffee Bean on campus, the girl coughed all over me and then had to excuse herself while somebody else took over. This time my wife bought me a $25 gift card and I was told they don't take gift cards. Fine. I can get my money back. With Starbucks everywhere I can spend my thousands of dollars over the next 20 years elsewhere. read more
