If Boulder City ever considered having a sister city in the United States, I would nominate Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. Both cities pack a hefty punch in the small, historic towns category and effortlessly cater to the diverse tastes of history buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, antique & vintage shoppers, bikers, and a hodgepodge of other domestic & international tourists. I'll leave you with these two fun facts & my review of The World Famous Coffee Cup Cafe to illustrate my point: Fun Fact #1: The Boulder City Historic District--where this restaurant is located--is Nevada's largest listing on the National Register of Historic Places with 514 buildings. Fun Fact #2: Boulder City is one of two cities in the state of Nevada that bans gaming/casinos, and it's the only city in Southern Nevada with a growth ordinance to preserve its small town feel. The city is perched above Lake Mead and Hoover Dam (which created the town) and is a mecca for kayaking, biking, hiking, water sports, stargazing, exploring old mining ghost towns, etc. Restaurant Review: The World Famous Coffee Cup Cafe is one of the more popular restaurants in Boulder City, and it's solid as a rock. I stopped by for Sunday brunch this past weekend with my cousin and a friend, and there was roughly a 30-35 minute wait. No problem at all; that gave us some time to explore the locally owned businesses in the historic district and grab coffee from the coffee shop at the end of the block. Once we got back to the restaurant and were able to grab a table, everything went off without a hitch. First of all, we received satisfactory customer service. The food also lived up to the hype. Both of my dining companions ordered the Breakfast Tacos, and my cousin could not stop raving about how bomb and filling they were. While my friend's food critiques were a lot more demure, he also noted the tacos were pretty tasty. I ordered the 3 Egg White Omelette (86 the Swiss cheese) with cottage cheese and a cup of fruit on the side. I also ordered a side of extra crispy home fries for everyone at the table to share family-style. Everything came out just how I wanted, and I left the restaurant a happy camper. On a final note, the colorful and fun design aesthetic at The Coffee Cup is part of the overall experience, and it kept me thoroughly entertained during my dining experience. It was also a good conversation starter at our table as we discussed the abundance of surf boards and water skis at a restaurant in the Mojave Desert. SO WORTH THE WAIT! Just beat the waitlist being full! Had to wait 30 minutes or so and when we were called noted that the sign was out that the waitlist was full for the day. They close at 2:00 and the waitlist fills up by 1:00 or earlier when the weather is nice. GET HERE EARLY! Everything we have had here has been excellent! Love the water ski / lake theme ambiance! The food this time was not hot, our waitress was unfriendly, we got up 3 times to ask for something the waitress just didnt bother with. Something has changed to lower the standards of food quality & service. When we paid with a credit card, the girl at the register asked us if we wanted to leave a tip.....that was really a shock. Our favorite! We have been coming to Coffee Cup for almost 15 years and it never disappoints! We love their burritos and omelets and they have a great drink selection too! The service is always quick and even on a busy weekend, they still get you seated within the hour. The restaurant has the most unique decorations and lots of memorabilia, it's so fun to look around and see all that is on the walls. We found my new FAVORITE place for breakfast/lunch! My bf from The Netherlands and I went for breakfast and we ordered the Green chili omelette. It was so flavorful that we went back the next day and ordered the same! I am an authentic Mexican cook and I can assure you this is top notch! Oh, and the coffee is not to bland or bitter. We enjoyed every moment we had in Boulder City. Such a wonderful town filled with local businesses. I'm thinking this is THE breakfast spot. Had a much larger group for the ride than anticipated, so we called in advance to let them know and they were so accommodating! We were all sat together immediately in the back room (with a Tiki bar!!). The staff are super friendly and welcoming! We had refill carafes at each table, plenty of attentive servers and the food came out quickly and delicious! The pancakes are super fluffy and my egg was perfectly cooked. My husband loved his western omelette, especially with the huge chunks of ham! But let's be real. That pork chili verde. O.M.G. I would drive the 30+ miles just to have that again. Pork is fall apart tender, it's deliciously spicy and so comforting. You won't find this in Vegas. Take the trip to Boulder City. You will not be disappointed. Worth the wait. We came here on a Saturday around 12;30pm. Was told it'll be 30mins wait. It was about 20mins and as there's a menu outside, we knew what we wanted before sitting down. Fun looking restaurant, inside and out. If you just want a drink without waiting, there's a bar on the back of the restaurant to the left side. $8 for a mimosa and it was in a large plastic cup. Definitely was more like 2 glasses of mimosas. The portions were huge and good are great. All made to order. Amazing service from the waitress and the support staff. Bacon & eggs is always a "go-to" selection, but their biscuits & gravy is top notch & the omelets here are wonderful. Their coffee is pretty darn good too. Service is alway fast & friendly. Today we had Danielle, who was very good. Quick to smile & patient, she did a great job, which is what I expect here. The decor is unique. With Lake Mead close by, there is a LOT of skis, surfboards & pictures of family & friends enjoying the water activities available. This place has been on Guy Fieri's Triple D show & we can see why. Soon after we were summoned inside. Table of 8 in the main dining room and two tables of four in the adjacent dining room We sat down and immediately someone came to our table to take our drink orders. Hubby got a chocolate shake and I got a chocolate malt. Everything on the menu looked tasty. At our table of eight we were able to request separate checks of four. Ordered: * hubby got the chili hot dog burrito with jalapeños peppers. Choice of sides but he passed. The hot dog was wrapped in a flour tortilla with chili. * I ordered the tuna melt with extra crispy fries. The sandwich bread was thick and toasty. Ample tuna. The crispy fries were excellent. Our orders came promptly. Hubby & I ended up sharing. I think the chili hot dog was too much of a good thing. It had too much heat even for hubby. Half an order was best. Great attentive service. First time here definitely coming back again - although maybe not on a Saturday because we did have to wait about 45 minutes for a table but the people watching was great. This place is touted as having great breakfasts, and obviously, since we returned two days in a row, we had no complaints.
