After a morning activity in town, my family and I decided to have lunch at The Coffee Cup. It came highly recommended on Google and Yelp. There was a long wait, which boded well for the experience. We found the service to be friendly and prompt, and liked the casual atmosphere. We ordered coffees and chocolate milks. The coffee was a bit disappointing. It tasted watery and lacked flavor. We then ordered pork verde omelette, while the kids ordered an OG breakfast sandwich and the Short on Cash breakfast, with chocolate chips added to the pancakes. We did not finish anything but the omelettes. The breakfast sandwich was a bit flavorless, with the bacon not enjoyable. We could only taste the bread. The pancakes did not taste like much beyond the syrup or the chocolate chips. We ordered bloody marys to replace the coffees we hadn't enjoyed, and found that those lacked any body to them. Our family finally had a chance to visit The Coffee Cup, a super charming diner in the heart of Boulder City. It's always busy so plan accordingly but there is lots of seating and they are efficient at moving people in and out. There's also a large counter if you are looking to jump in and out quickly. The menu is large with very reasonable prices and lots to choose from, whether breakfast or lunch. In fact, the menu is two sided with a ton of breakfast items on one side, and a similarly huge selection of lunch choices on the reverse. My daughter had French Toast, my wife had a standard eggs/hash browns/sausage links classic breakfast, and I decided to try the "Food Network" recommended Meatloaf and eggs. We all enjoyed our meals...my wife's was as expected but a shout out to super crispy hash browns (recommended!) and we all loved the thick homestyle sourdough toast provided with our meals. My daughter's French Toast was delicious and she loved it-- super good quality and great portions. As for my meatloaf, the eggs and hashbrowns were great but oddly, the meatloaf arrived cold and unfortunately needed to be sent back. The server brought back a brand new side of meatloaf after a few minutes and it was much better and had good flavor. The brown gravy that was over it was delicious and paired perfectly for this guilty pleasure diner staple. Overall, there are also lot of breakfast choices in Boulder City but we really enjoyed our time at The Coffee Cup. If you don't mind a short wait, you will be rewarded with some of the least expensive menu items we have seen lately, and great food quality overall. There is a reason they seem to have a loyal following and we look forward to returning! One quick note - the name The Coffee Cup can be a bit misleading as their coffee is more the diner version of it with endless pours of typical brewed goodness coming to your table. Well, we've done it again. We introduced another couple of unsuspecting friends to The Coffee Cup in Boulder City--and yep, they're hooked. It's honestly becoming a problem. Pretty soon, I won't be able to get a table without a disguise and a decoy. We've been coming here for years, and not once--not once--have we had a bad experience. The only "negative" is that it's too good, which means it's usually packed. I've had to wander off a few times, belly growling and head hanging low, to find food elsewhere. (Cue sad violin music.) But not this time. We rolled in at 8 AM on a Sunday expecting the usual crowd--but lo and behold, no line! We were greeted with a smile, seated immediately, and had coffee and drinks in front of us faster than you can say "chorizo scramble." Prices? Still great. Food? Still amazing. Service? Still spot-on. Friends' reaction? "When can we come back--and who can we bring?" It's starting to feel like I'm running a recruiting campaign for The Coffee Cup. I better stop singing its praises before it's standing-room only and I have to eat breakfast in the parking lot. Thanks, Coffee Cup crew--you continue to nail it every time. Once upon a time, there used to be an institution called the American diner. Always open, it served as a beacon in the night for the poor, the hungry, the shivering masses. Sadly they are a dying institution. Fear not though as in Boulder City, NV exists a strange spin-off called the Coffee Cup. Only open for breakfast and lunch and then the kitchen closes and it morphs into a pub in the evening. As a diner, wow. Has everything. Huge delicious portions. Long menu with everything you could possible want. Prices you haven't seen since 1998. Gender politics of the front of house (all women) and back of house (all men) that you haven't seen since 1978. But hell, it's the middle of nowhere and damn the milk shakes are epic. They prefer cash. Credit is a tiny extra fee. More stickers and wall bling than you could ever imagine. And unless the fake memorabilia of your hard rocks and Texas steak houses, it all is genuine. It's a weird mix of water skiing and military but hell, I appreciate the service and sacrifice of our troops too. In any case, if you're off to the Hoover dam or Grand Canyon then save some space in your yummy for the Coffee Cup. We ended up with three meals worth of eatings. Epic. read more

That said, the service left a lot to be desired. The food took *forever* to come out -- easily one of the slowest dining experiences I've ever had. Our waitress was nice *enough*, but getting our bill took way too long, and the overall energy felt like she was more focused on chatting with locals than helping us. Both cities pack a hefty punch in the small, historic towns category and effortlessly cater to the diverse tastes of history buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, antique & vintage shoppers, bikers, and a hodgepodge of other domestic & international tourists. I'll leave you with these two fun facts & my review of The World Famous Coffee Cup Cafe to illustrate my point: Fun Fact #1: The Boulder City Historic District--where this restaurant is located--is Nevada's largest listing on the National Register of Historic Places with 514 buildings. Fun Fact #2: Boulder City is one of two cities in the state of Nevada that bans gaming/casinos, and it's the only city in Southern Nevada with a growth ordinance to preserve its small town feel. The city is perched above Lake Mead and Hoover Dam (which created the town) and is a mecca for kayaking, biking, hiking, water sports, stargazing, exploring old mining ghost towns, etc. Restaurant Review: The World Famous Coffee Cup Cafe is one of the more popular restaurants in Boulder City, and it's solid as a rock. I stopped by for Sunday brunch this past weekend with my cousin and a friend, and there was roughly a 30-35 minute wait. No problem at all; that gave us some time to explore the locally owned businesses in the historic district and grab coffee from the coffee shop at the end of the block. Once we got back to the restaurant and were able to grab a table, everything went off without a hitch. First of all, we received satisfactory customer service. The food also lived up to the hype. Both of my dining companions ordered the Breakfast Tacos, and my cousin could not stop raving about how bomb and filling they were. While my friend's food critiques were a lot more demure, he also noted the tacos were pretty tasty. I ordered the 3 Egg White Omelette (86 the Swiss cheese) with cottage cheese and a cup of fruit on the side. I also ordered a side of extra crispy home fries for everyone at the table to share family-style. Everything came out just how I wanted, and I left the restaurant a happy camper. On a final note, the colorful and fun design aesthetic at The Coffee Cup is part of the overall experience, and it kept me thoroughly entertained during my dining experience. Our favorite! We have been coming to Coffee Cup for almost 15 years and it never disappoints! We love their burritos and omelets and they have a great drink selection too! The service is always quick and even on a busy weekend, they still get you seated within the hour. The food this time was not hot, our waitress was unfriendly, we got up 3 times to ask for something the waitress just didnt bother with. Worth the wait. We came here on a Saturday around 12;30pm. Was told it'll be 30mins wait. It was about 20mins and as there's a menu outside, we knew what we wanted before sitting down. Fun looking restaurant, inside and out. If you just want a drink without waiting, there's a bar on the back of the restaurant to the left side. $8 for a mimosa and it was in a large plastic cup. Definitely was more like 2 glasses of mimosas. The portions were huge and good are great. All made to order. Amazing service from the waitress and the support staff. Had a much larger group for the ride than anticipated, so we called in advance to let them know and they were so accommodating! We had refill carafes at each table, plenty of attentive servers and the food came out quickly and delicious! The pancakes are super fluffy and my egg was perfectly cooked. My husband loved his western omelette, especially with the huge chunks of ham! But let's be real. That pork chili verde. O.M.G. I would drive the 30+ miles just to have that again. Bacon & eggs is always a "go-to" selection, but their biscuits & gravy is top notch & the omelets here are wonderful. Their coffee is pretty darn good too. Service is alway fast & friendly. Today we had Danielle, who was very good. Quick to smile & patient, she did a great job, which is what I expect here. The decor is unique. With Lake Mead close by, there is a LOT of skis, surfboards & pictures of family & friends enjoying the water activities available. This place has been on Guy Fieri's Triple D show & we can see why. Yesterday Monday the 16 of us swung by after playing golf at nearby Boulder Creek golf course. One of our golfer friends suggested we come as this has been featured on DD&D. We put our name on the wait list. Wait time approximately 25 minutes. We sat outside on the benches to wait. Sometime later a staff person came out to ask if our group could be split up. Sure. Soon after we were summoned inside. Table of 8 in the main dining room and two tables of four in the adjacent dining room We sat down and immediately someone came to our table to take our drink orders. Hubby got a chocolate shake and I got a chocolate malt. Everything on the menu looked tasty. At our table of eight we were able to request separate checks of four. Ordered: * hubby got the chili hot dog burrito with jalapeños peppers. Choice of sides but he passed. The hot dog was wrapped in a flour tortilla with chili. * I ordered the tuna melt with extra crispy fries. The sandwich bread was thick and toasty. Ample tuna. The crispy fries were excellent. Our orders came promptly. Hubby & I ended up sharing. I think the chili hot dog was too much of a good thing. It had too much heat even for hubby. Half an order was best. Great attentive service.
