Place was recommended to me by a friend of mine a while back and finally had the opportunity to check it out. Glad I did. Top notch menu from start to finish. Started with a stuffed pepper appetizer. Pepper stuffed with chorizo sausage , cheese wrapped in a flaky pastry. WOW. The French onion soup was actually 2 soups. The traditional French onion style and a creamy verdalia (sp?) onion served in a bowl shaped like the Chinese ying yang symbol. AWESOME. Entree was the bacon wrapped meatloaf. No need to say any more about that. FANTASTIC! Our server Lynn was very nice and took time with us and the menu, as well as tell us a little history about the building. First of all the decor is really nice. The place has been recently redone, and very nicely. We were there for restaurant week and the only choices for 20.14 were from the "comfort food" section of the menu - meat loaf, etc. Our entrees were OK, but that's about it. Maybe the food on the more "upscale" part of the menu (steak, salmon, etc) would be better, but I probably won't go back to try, they just didn't impress me enough. read more

The ambience and friendly wait staff are the only thing saving this from a one star review. It took over an hour to receive our food. There were only about 20 people in the whole place, so it's not like they were in the weeds. When the food did arrive, the pork loin was bone dry and the crust was burned. Dec. 31st, party of 6, we reserved a table, the hostess wanted to seat us upstairs, but with my handicapped mother, we were given a too small table on the first floor. menu items were limited. We were expecting high prices, but I was still surprised that the lowest priced entree, a meatless pasta, was priced at $24!! A plain salad was $7, there was no inclusions with entrees. our service was rushed, our original bread service included 2 pieces of bread for 6 people, she asked if we wanted more, duh, then never brought it. We requested more bread, then were served 2 more pieces, burnt! With no waiting between salad or entree, we were served $29 queen cut prime rib, cold! Lobster Mac was so-so, and heavily dependent on cheese, baby shrimp, 4 pieces of lobster. Again, we were asked if we wanted anything, requested hot sauce, and it never came. With 4 gals standing around, the room nearly empty, and when we said "miss" none would help us as it wasn't their table! Of our 6 meals, 4 were cold. We were in and out in 1 hour. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner tonight since I've had a groupon for a while... my Mother mentioned it was a cool atmosphere so we decided to give it a try. She was absolutely right! It's very woodsy, rustic and beautiful. We sat right next to a wood burning stove that was very cozy. We both ordered the Steak Frittes and they were both cooked to perfection with fresh French fries. I also got the grilled romaine salad to start which was delectable. My only thought is that a glass of beer was $8.50, which is very steap but we still LOVED the place. Our waitress Rebecca or Becky was wonderful. Highly recommend! We had a reservation and were promotly seated when we arrived eventhough we were ten minutes early. Ambiance is awesome. Server was very attentive, the drinks we ordered came out promptly. We ordered the walnut crusted brie and the watermelon salad which was a special and specifically asked if the appetizers came with some bread and were told that there would be some bread for the table. We got the appetizers which were great but we had almost finished them before we got some bread which was not impressive anyways. Entrees came, hubby had the rack of lamb which came with some spinach and some fennel and we thought we had read on the menu it would come with some roasted red potatoes as well, so we asked the server if there was a chance to get some potatoes and she offered to bring some fries. So we thought ok maybe they ran out of roasted red potatoes and will just bring some fries instead now. Fries came out a few minutes later and were so soggy that they were literally inedible. Again we brought it to the attention of our server and she offered to take them off the bill which left us wondering because there was a side dish of potatoes missing in the first place... I had ordered crusty pork ribs which were a special and I thought it was offered with baked beans and vegetable slaw but it only came with baked beans and the fennel and spinach that was also served with my husband's rack of lamb. So we also brought this to the attention of the server and she said that there must have been some last minutes changes... Well if that is the case let your customers know for God's sake! When the check came they had charged us full price for both entrees eventhough there was in my husband's case half of the sides missing and in my case sides had been replaced with a different item than advertised without them letting me know! So again we brought it to the attention of our server and she said she would talk to the owner to see what he thought about it. After a while she came back and informed us that the owner agreed to take off 20% of the check. The food that was served was good but still the whole dining experience left us with a sour taste of having been tried to get ripped off... And if that wasn't the case they have some serious issues in the kitchen for sure! They want to be a fine dining place but nobody is checking the plates that leave the kitchen????? And the waitress does not notice as well that dishes aren't plated they way they should be????? We also would have expected the owner who was working the bar to come to our table and maybe apologize or at least explain what went wrong... So overall it was a pretty disappointing experience and honestly for that money we'd rather go elsewhere... Sad because the place is awesome but they definitely have some issues with their staff especially in the kitchen since our server told us that this wasn't the first time this had happened... read more

First off, the place is gorgeous. It gives you a very warm and homey feeling as soon as you walk in the door. My guest and I were lucky enough to be seated on the second floor which overlooked the first floor dining room. The decor is really nice. The food was very good as well. The mushroom risotto, which was a special, was fantastic. But the chorizo stuffed peppers stole the show. Not too hot, just the right amount of kick. Well worth the trip out to Colden. Colden Mill was the perfect place for a date night with my husband. The service was amazing from the second we walked in the door, our seat on the patio was romantic, the sound of the creek was so relaxing, and the food was AMAZING!!! We started off with the French onion "two ways" soup, which is a must try because it was unbelievable! We then had the stuffed pablano pepper, which was absolutely delicious! Its on the menu as an appetizer, but it is huge so def. share or it could even be a meal! Every bite was so full of flavor, we couldn't stop raving about it! This is a must try dish as well:) Next we shared the salmon with sweet and sour pineapple sauce, coconut risotto and broccoli; this dish was light and the perfect balance of all the flavors! I was so full at this point but couldn't let any bite go to waste! We finished our perfect meal with a variety of insanely delicious desserts to try (my husband loves his dessert, especially when the food was as good as it was, we could only imagine what dessert would be like!). The entire experience was just wonderful. The place is adorable and we had such a perfect date night! The Colden Mill is an enigma. Where I would fully expect a place that looks and feels like a rustic barn and saloon had a child, to serve grits and biscuits with gravy, it instead offers a limited menu of dinner items, desserts and specialty bar drinks. Now these items are not your usual $10-$15 items, but instead manages a healthy $20-$40 per dinner but the elegance in the meals is worth double that. On a Valentine's Day dinner with the family, we ventured out about 30 minutes to this one-horse town and immediately were taken by the uniqueness of this restaurant. It sits on a corner lot by the water and looks like a Kinkade picture. I opted for the 22 ounce Prime Rib, which came with au gratin potatoes and veggies. My wife had the seafood tortellini and the kids managed to go out on a limb and try something new - grilled cheese and a hot dog. My Prime Rib was obnoxiously good. I cannot stress the size and quality of this slab of meat. The potatoes absolutely blew my mind. I told my wife as I grinned from ear to ear how badly I did not want the meal to end. She then shared that with the waitress, who offered to get me another meal to go. If I would have thought that I would survive meat sweats and a wicked food hangover the next day, I may have taken her up om the offer. It was one of the single best restaurant meals I have had in any recent memory. The caliber of this food was off the charts. My wife's tortellini was fantastic and a perfectly sized portion. The seafood pouches were stuffed full of fresh morsels all covered in a beautiful sauce. As expected the kids meals were exactly as expected just like the last 10 places we went to eat. This place is one for the books and should be on your high-end meal places to hit. I am not saying you should get there weekly unless you just roll like that, but for a family of 4, expect a good $100+ bill. However, I could not pay them fast enough because that meal just kicked the bar up for any other place I hit in the next year. read more

My dinner was disappointing; I had the grilled romaine, which my server thought would be substantial (meaning I didn't need to order an appetizer) being half of a full romaine, but it was more like 1/4. Not too many vegetarian options. I had a tart for dessert (was still so hungry), but we couldn't even dig into the pastry, it was either frozen or stale. My friend loved his dinner, however. I do not recommend this for families with younger children. the kids menu is expensive $10 for 3 little chicken fingers and small serving of fries. Coconut shrimp and onion soup was good. We ordered rack of lamb. It was over cooked and cold plus the potatoes were also cold. Service was just ok. She never asked us for additional drinks or dessert. We had to ask for water twice. We went on a Friday and it wasn't very busy. I think it is a little over priced for the quantity and quality. I don't like it when the don't put prices on the specials. We went here for the first time last night. The menu was very limited, and frankly, not that interesting. It took an unusually long time for us to decide on entrees because nothing really sounded that appealing. The prices are very high, considering the location and quality of food. I ended up ordering the beef shank over fries - all I could taste was salt. Yuck. The service was friendly and attentive, but not at the level of professionalism one expects when paying these prices. Went there on Valentines day, even had a reservation. When we arrive we are told our table isnt ready when there was only 3 table full.... we sat at the bar for 10-15 mins waiting when there were open tables that didnt get filled. then when we did get sat the server took 10 mins just to get to us, again it wasnt busy. and we had to tell her we wanted to oreder she was going to walk away. Great atmosphere, OK service, sub par food. The calamari had a chunk of plastic in it that I broke in half when I bit it and the soup was tasteless. Start to finish, just great. There were four of us, with no expectations. Martinis and manhattens were mixed just right. We shared the stuffed pepper to start. Very good, just enough heat. Red sauce was delish, a little sweet to counter the heat. Fresh baked mini baguettes with dipping oil and a head of roasted garlic, and our server made sure we did not run out. Grilled romaine salad and duo of onion soups are musts! Entrees were excellent from the comfort food section, the only thing uncomfortable were the waistbands when done. The service was attentive and knowledgable and the GM stopped at our table twice to check in. Nice ambiance, you can wear jeans but why? Dress slacks or khakis are a better match. Went last Saturday night. We arrived at 5 and had a couple cocktails. They were fine if a bit pricey. The staff was very friendly and engaging. The place filled up quickly after 6pm. We saw many fish fry orders (yes on a Saturday) come out to other tables, and they looked great. We had already ordered by this time, but will try one next time. .I had the beef tenderloin pasta with spinach, red peppers, banana peppers and cheese over bow tie pasta. This was excellent and the portion was big. My date had the grilled romaine and meatloaf, both of which were fantastic. We had no room for dessert. We had high hopes for the reopened Colden Mill, but it felt short in multiple areas. First we couldn't find a place to park and had to use the school parking lot up the hill...ok on a nice evening, but that won't fly in the rain or snow. The table we were seated at seemed to be dead center of traffic, bar behind us and kitchen entrance created a constant stream of people brushing by. Drinks were ok, bread wasn't delivered until half way through the salad. My steak was barely warm and two salmon dishes were served uncooked in the center. I can handle a little pink, but this salmon was like jelly...uncooked fish is not ok. The staff seemed disconnected. The owner took the dishes away, and after a few minutes returned (quick microwave trip?) but one salmon dish was still raw. He didn't come back to check on the table, or offer any further comment. The meals were not removed from the bill, which was surprising. I would have expected some mention or acknowledgement of it. I told the owner on the way out, I want this place to be great, but that kind of service really won't create repeat customers. I'm sure others have had great experiences, and I hope they get it together. It's a nice location with a great interior, the service just needs to step up to meet the prices. read more

Have not been here in such a very long time..l.park and walk in and everything looks the same, warm, cozy, comfortable...but the menu....WOW! Met another couple for a Saturday night dinner, ordered two drinks from the bar....ok but really small glasses......seated and began to look over the very different menu from the former Mill...lots of choices but not the normal run of the mill....our table ordered the Chorizo Stuffed Pepper for a starter...it showed up wrapped in a puff pastry, delicious! We each ended up ordering a different entrée and we all were very pleased with our choices....Beef Shank Poutine, balanced comfort food, tender, juicy, crispy....just a bit on the salty side so don't salt till you try it....Beef Tenderloin Pasta, I was told he could not wait to eat the next bite a total treat, Swordfish was totally enjoyed along with the classic Filet Mignon perfectly cooked....no room for dessert, maybe next time! Went to the Colden Mill on Friday night. The deck seating was nice and the red sangria was good. Other than that - I don't think we will be back. Our server neglected to tell us all the specials, but did tell us that there would be no short rib dinners, much to my disappointment. We did hear her tell the next table about the prime rib special, but did not tell them about being out of short ribs. My husband said that he overheard about the prime rib special which he ended up ordering. The server explained that it would be served with asparagus, but when the dinner came, there were green beans. I had the filet, which I have had better - did not especially care for the burnt blue cheese/bacon combination on the top. Also the potato wedges were hard. The server had no idea of table numbers - if that is how orders are kept track of - and tried giving our dinners to another table. When she finally brought them to our table, she managed to spill the au jus from the prime rib down my husbands leg while the rest was spilled on the table cloth. We would frequent this restaurant before it closed and absolutely loved it. This place needs to sharpen their wait staff and improve the quality and taste of the food - wasn't impressed - good thing we had a groupon..... read more

Loved the atmosphere! Classy and rustic chic at the same time. My husband and I did the full run, we had apps, soups, and entrees. All I'll say is we can't wait to bring friends back for an evening!! The stuffed Peblano peppers where delish, nice touch with the light use of truffle oil on the roasted cauliflower soup! I also really enjoyed the ahi tuna app. (That was a special.) We had the meatloaf and cod mains, both really good! I love that there is comfort food, like chicken pot pie, on the menu along with refined dishes as well!! Our server, Lynn was spot on! Went about 3 weeks ago with the ladies from my office. 6 of us ordered from the comfort menu. Every single one of us loved what we ordered! Now THAT'S UNBELIEVEABLE! Six women and we were all happy with our generous, flavorful, unique meals. It wasn't JUST meatloaf...it was BACON WRAPPED MEATLOAF! Three of us had that. The chicken pot pie-very good, piping hot. Loved the biscuit on top. Everything was great. The owner stopped a couple of times to be sure we were happy with out meals...and we were. It was a very good experience all around. This is a long standing local restaurant that changed ownership a couple of years ago and was beautifully redone. It has wonderful ski-town atmosphere but it's urban prices outpace its country setting. Owners would benefit by relaxing the menu a bit in order to accommodate local tastes. I will say that the food is very good but a bit too fancy for families on the way home from the slopes. read more
