At first glance, it's easy going atmosphere, juke box, and row of motorcycles out front will have you thinking it's just another dive bar. But if you spend more than two minutes there, you will quickly see that there is more to this little stop on rt 240! The Baja tacos are my favorite, the wings are perfect, and the roast beef (when they have it) is as good as or better than Bar-bills. There are dinner tables inside and out. Their newly remodeled patio is awesome, and usually shaded fairly well. What makes the last run the best is truly the people that work there. We also had been warned that dinner service would take between two to three hours due to traditional cooking methods, no air fryers or microwaves anywhere! So let's talk about the much anticipated food experience. We sat for the better part of an hour with our glasses of water before our cups of soup arrived at the table. The salad course came along 20 minutes later along with a basket of muffins and some of the best buttermilk biscuits I've ever had. They were tender and moist, slightly sweet and fluffy with a nice crumble on top. The salad was not memorable. The Dog Bar must be doing something right! Every table was full, the place was slamming-busy on this evening. Many of the patrons seemed to be regulars, comfortable with the menu and the wait staff. My husband held his comments until we got home. His fried seafood platter did not live up to his expectations. The thin fish cutlet was dried out during the fry process. He loves his coleslaw and potato salad, so this was a huge disappointment for him. We ordered a Peanut Butter Mud pie to split. It was delicious and it arrived at 7:30 pm. They were good, though they keep the steamed with their shells on and with the rock shrimp's intestinal tract still on. In restaurants elsewhere, they remove the shells (which are much harder than regular shrimp) and remove the tractor (basically the poop sack). As assumed, customers peel the rock shrimp/lobster daintees and rarely use a knife to remove the instestinal tract (which results in the meat tasting very sandy/grainy/eating whatever is in their intestinesinal tract). That being said, I did find it cool to see the tough shells on the lobster daintees. I also ordered a steak, which was made perfectly. I do look forward to going back, though I would also consider their beef on weck or other non-seafood offerings.
