I was referred by a local to go to Johnnie at Vanity Hair Salon. I had very dry, frizzy and rough hair. He recommended the Brazilian Blowout which I had only heard about, and promised that after the treatment I'll be able to get out of the shower and just rough dry my hair and that it will look like I just got out of the salon weeks and weeks afterwards (this is true!). He also did a haircut which looks amazing - suddenly I have really nice movement in the hair and beautiful layers. The Brazilian Blowout treatment was fabulous. My hair is insanely perfect and has a really nice healthy shine now. Best of all Johnnie is super fun to work with, is a great listener and is quite handsome ;-) I'll be back for sure. read more

I do not normally post on yelp, but unfortunately I feel like I need to say something about the poor professionalism that I had to deal with. I received a card for one of the hairstylists named Kelliegh at Vanity. I was so excited to find a new hair place in Monterey since I am fairly new to the area. I went into Vanity and was told that I could book a consultation online with her. I was also told that their website is still being worked on which is no big deal. I went home immediately and booked the appointment with Kelliegh. I was a little confused on how to book the consultation so I put down the consultation and also a partial highlight. My thinking was that it would let her know what I wanted a consultation for. I went in for my appiontment and Kelliegh gave me some great ideas on what to do with my hair. I was so pleased until we both realized that I had accidentally booked the appointment wrong and she was under the assumption that I wanted my hair done that day. I apologized for the confusion and let her know that I did want to book an appointment with her for the future. She then proceeded to act annoyed. When we went to make the appointment she flashed an annoyed look at another girl who was working who then gave her a look right back! This all happened right in front of me! I felt so bad at the time that I apologized again after she made the appointment and she again acted like she was annoyed and brushed my apology off with out much recognition. I know we all have our bad days but I as someone who deals with giving customer service every day I could never imagine myself giving a coworker an annoyed look right in front of a customer. I decided that I would not being going back due to how she handled the situation. In the end I ended up some where that provided me fantastic customer service, a great hair style, and for much less than what Kelliegh was going to charge me. *** shortly after posting this the owner of Vanity, Nicole, gave me a call and apologized for the poor service. As much as I disliked Kelliegh's customer service, Nicole's phone call helped the situation so much. It is nice to know that the owner is paying attention to what is going on in her shop :) that's what customer service is!! read more

Very unprofessional service on my wedding day! I had booked in advance, 2 hair appointments for my mother and mother in law - I had arranged rides for them and was told AFTER they arrived that one of the hair stylists was not coming in. Initially they tried to fit her in for an appointment 2 hrs later but on a wedding-day hours is way too valuable (they both drove out 30 min from Carmel Valley for the appt). This created a totally awkward situation where only one mother could get her hair done. My mother in law ended up not getting her hair done and my mom didn't even like her style! I paid for a deposit in ADVANCE so I would have to commit - and yet the salon isn't held to the same standards? Totally unacceptable. I did not receive a call nor an apology. My discussion with the receptionist before the appointment was pleasant but the outcome was really unacceptable. read more

I hate to write a bad review but if it helps someone avoid the horrible experience I had here than its worth doing. I was given a price for the service I booked and then to my shock charged double at checkout. Clearly this happens all the time because the receptionist took one look at my face upon receiving the bill and went to get the owner. I was told I was given a "gloss" that I knew nothing about which added an extra $100 to my already high bill. Shoot, at this price I could've flown somewhere beautiful to get my hair done. Ouch. To top it off the receptionist recommended I tip at least $20 to the Owner even though I was unhappy. What kind of business secretly adds extras and then makes you pay for it?! I also had to disrupt my day early on to go home and wash my hair because the Kerastase products they use smell like an older woman with bad taste in perfume whose nose doesn't work anymore ... strong & baaaad. But it's SUPER pricey so it must be good, right? Yeah right. read more

Oh man, hair is such a tough part of the wedding prep process. Especially when you're curly trying to be straight on the day of your wedding in a place that is known for fog. A few notable things about my experience: 1) My first trial didn't go so well b/c my hair puffed up immediately following. No worries. Nicole had me come in the Wednesday before my wedding and gave me a blow out in prep for the big day. It stayed perfectly straight all week. 2) The Vanity team worked with each and every bridesmaid for a look that worked best. All my girls looked HOT! 3) Nicole is the most calming personality. She made me feel - on the day of and in the trials leading up - like everything was going to be a-ok. Also, I looked "fly" all due to her. Thanks Nicole! 4) Our wedding was in Carmel Valley + we had to drive to/from for hair. The Vanity team made sure that everyone was on time + ready to go! 5) They greeted us with pastries + sparkling water! How cute is that?! Pro-tip: Blowing your hair out the day before means that you're less stressed/worried on the day of because you can just focus on the styling. If you're thinking of booking Vanity, do it. As a military spouse I move frequently and it is always stressful finding someone I trust with my hair. I was so happy to have found Kimberlee and the rest of the ladies at Vanity. I called in the beginning of the week and got in on Friday. Their prices were less than I expected for this area and the quality of work is unbeatable. The environment is extremely comfortable and professional. I look forward to the next time I need to get my hair done. Oh, let me not forget to talk about my hair. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and if you see my hair you'll know why I didn't want to spend hald the day in our room styling it. I found this place on yelp and made an appt. I was greeted promptly my hostess and then by stylist Jessica. Jessica was not only amazing to speak with but did a fabulous blow out and style on my hair. And I have TONS of hair! She even washed my hair twice! As she was washing my hair another stylist Brittany overheard our convo of what to do and not only gave recommendations of where to go but wrote everything down for me. I was so excited when I left we tried to get our hotel in SF for Thursday so we could stay longer and I could go back and get another blowout. unfortunately they were going to charge us so we have to leave. Andrea did a wonderful job on my hair. I have hair extensions and was suffering from really bad dandruff and I just needed someone to exfoliate my scalp of all the dead skin. The hair wash felt amazing! She took her time and really massaged my scalp. After washing my hair, it was on to blow drying. This part took awhile because my hair extensions are 22 inches long, but that was no issue for me. She styled it perfectly. Andrea is by far 5 stars! Only reason for 4 stars is because I didn't realize it was going to cost $65 to do all that. When I called the day before, I was told $35 and I did mention that I had extensions. It might have been a mistake. Maybe she was looking at the regular price for shampoo and blow dry and not the extension option. Either way, I am satisfied with my visit! read more

This salon has an amazing atmosphere (spacious, trendy, well-lit, and warm people) and the stylists there are definitely top of the line professionals which is very hard to find in this area (Typically for stylists of this caliber, I would need to go to the city or LA.) This is not your typical hair salon. It seems they are working on getting more staff, but I understand that they are very picky about their stylists and won't let just anyone work there. I very much like the concept of the blowdry bar and also have had great experience with haircuts and color jobs that I cannot imagine anyone else doing a better job at. read more

Kelleigh is an artist. I had been given an awful color and borderline mullet haircut from someone in TX and she turned what I thought would be a "chop it all off" correction into my favorite haircut I have had in years. I have very fine and thin hair and she gave it the lift of a short cut while still leaving me a little length with layers. I was only in town for a week and I used Yelp to find the salon and was given to her and could NOT have been happier. Only reason that it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the parking situation which is horrendous. If their spaces aren't open next to the salon, do yourself a favor and park in a garage and walk. :-) read more

Came here for a blowout before dinner. The staff are very professional and friendly. They work hard to make the customer feel comfortable. The parking is difficult, the blowout was good. By the look of the departing clients, I wouldn't come her for cut/color, but the blowout bar is decent. Limited seating for waiting clients is a bit awkward. read more

I booked my hair appointment online, which I have to say is very cool and easy. It was my first time at vanity although they had great reviews I was still a little nervous. Jessica was beyond amazing I work in hospitality and this salon goes above and beyond they are soooo nice. Jessica did such an amazing job at listening to my concerns. Johnnie spent 5 and a half hours on my hair. I've seen so many stylists and he is the only one that has been able to get my hair this light. My hair lifted so much and it was only the 1st session! Have you ever gone to a salon and not get what you wanted, and the stylists act aloof? This is what will happen if you go to this salon. During my initial consultation for the Ombre/balyoge highlights, it was unclear to me as to how few highlights I would get and have to be happy with--additionally I would also not be informed that dying my silver roots would not be included in the price. I did not get an ombre style. So I would have to walk out of the salon, only to dye my roots myself or pay an extra 90 bucks to have them dyed. WOW! Didnt get this information with my initial consultation. The lady that did my hair put in as few as possible at 90 dollars then ran away to the back as I sat wanting to express to her that I wanted more around my face--only for her to re-emerge 10 minutes later my hair processing without a dryer. The front desk lady/owner acted aloof and as I complain that I hoped that she never went to a salon and got something she didnt want. She blankly looked up and me as she took my money and said, "Have a nice day". DONT GO HERE. read more

I am a high school student who got a cut and color here. I came in to get my hair just below the shoulder length and dyed temporarily brown. This style was for a play and I didn't want it sticking around. Right when I went into the place, I adored the atmosphere of the salon. The people were nice, the building was gorgeous I was initially thrilled. I had a great time with my stylist, (I'd rather not say their name), we were chatting and just overall having a great time. Since this procedure took about three hours, my parents left for a while and came back when it was finished. Finally, when the stylist turns me around in the chair, they say, "So I used permanent dye because I thought it would last longer throughout the show." My stomach dropped. I could not believe that they had taken it upon themselves to completely change what I wanted, and without even asking me! On top of that, it was about $300 plus tip, and I left that salon feeling defeated and disappointed. I really wish I could give a good review, but this mistake could not be overlooked.
