I am a believer. I was beyond touched when I saw that the owner Talya not only responded to my review she invited me to come in and have a meal on her . That is exactly the kind of customer service that I was hoping for. I couldn't make it in on Saturday but today my son and I placed an order for our Mac and cheese and hush puppies. I had decided due to her request for me to come in and have a meal on her that I would come in and give the place a chance . Went to pick up my order the food was packaged and ready to go I decided I needed to try the pecan pie so I ordered that and while I waited Tayla came out from the back to spew with another customer and recognized me . You guys she is the nicest most beautiful warmest person you could meet. She was so kind and sincere. I am so grateful that I gave this place a 2nd chance. Not only is this a woman owned business it's a woman of color owned business and it's a family owned mother and daughter team. First impression walking in.. seen a check in desk so it felt like we were checking into a hotel. Turn the corner, very spacious area with lots & lots of tables. Light was dim so we thought they were closed so we had to wait until we caught someone's attention. The 6 wings appetizer/wings meal: those things came out huge and you can tell by looking at them that they were super crispy & freshly cooked. Looked very appealing as well however I opted not to try because I wanted my burger. My fried chicken burger was great. Chicken was crispy and savory which was wonderful. I ate every bite!! Mac & cheese is pretty good! You can tell their mac & cheese has a "real-ness" to it is the best way I can describe it. Very cheesy & delicious, not the cheap-imitation-microwavable ones. My daughter who is a mac & cheese freak said "it's one of the best!". Mashed potatoes & gravy was yummy!! Hence I've only ate KFC mashed potatoes but this one knocks it out of the park! Catfish was huge, crispy and fresh. No complaints! Hush puppies were ehh.. I think I had high hopes with the cornbread expecting it to be a bit sweeter? The fiancée and I were craving some fried chicken and looking to support a black owned business. We found the comfort zone on Yelp after a few other places we had our eyes on were closed. We ordered via UberEats - 6 wings + an extra order of 3 wings plus an extra side of one wing juuuust incase ha! Our order arrived on time, piping hot and fresh. I popped it in the oven for a few mins to keep it warm while we got ready for dinner. We didn't order any sides as I had some at home. This chicken was delicious! Tasted so fresh and cooked all the way through. I didn't see any pink and would have noticed since that's a pet peeve of mine. This thoroughly satisfied our cravings - I was able to eat three and the fiancée 5 before we couldn't eat anymore. An order of 6 or 8 wings should be sufficient for two adults. The food was amazing!! I ordered off ubereats and it was worth it. I thought 6 wings meant the little small wings like BWW or Wingstop but they were huge and filling. I also really liked the Mac n cheese! All the portions were really big (but then again I did order a lot) I ended up eating everything in a few sittings. Airfrying the chicken again was no problem, it still have the juicy and delicious flavors. I am so happy I found this place. I was looking for soul food places in Seattle and I found this restaurant on Instagram. My friend and I went to the African American Museum and we were really excited to know this place wasn't far from it. When we arrived we didn't see a sign. I remembered reading on Instagram that they were located inside a building so pay attention to the address. We walked a block up and found the address right away. When we walked in we could hear music and there was a lot of tables. A lady greeted us and told us to walk up to the desk. She showed us the menu and stated we order and pay first and if we would like to stay and eat we can sit anywhere. We both looked over the menu and I was excited to see so many meat and side choices! I love greens but it is hard to find places who make it without meat or with turkey. I am very picky when it comes to greens lol. I also ordered yams as my second side and a strawberry lemonade. Once we paid she handed us a number on a stand and told us to sit anywhere. The restaurant is very spacious and it reminds me of a night club. They have a huge stage and bar off to the side. I even was pleased with the old school music they were playing in the background. Finally when the food came out it was served on plastic which was fine with me. The food was hot because I could see the steam coming off it. I did receive mac and cheese on accident I told the waiter and he stated it was okay and he will go and get the correct side. The chicken was golden brown and seasoned well. The greens had so much flavor and big pieces of turkey mixed in. The yams were good as well I just wished I had a bigger portion of them. The lemonade was so delicious ! I had to get a cup of it to go! My friend enjoyed her food as well she finished it all. I was still full from breakfast so I got mines to go. The meals were a little under $20 but not bad for the amount of food. Hopefully they are able to get a bigger sign or something to point people to their location. It was perfectly fried and seasoned properly. Very moist on the inside. I highly recommend it if you go here! Pretty much the best thing I had from everything I ordered. The gravy from the mashed potatoes was very bland- kind of tasted like it had been diluted with too much water. I had to pass on it. Mac and cheese had the texture I love from a mac- on the thicker side. However, it had a funky taste that I couldn't quite pinpoint. I noticed some parts were pretty orange, so maybe it was mixed with some powdered cheese? Honestly, just speculating and this may not be true at all. It was odd. Had to pass on it as well after a couple of bites. Chicken wings were ok- only gripe is from other yelp photos, I saw them split and was expecting that, but again it's just a personal preference I have. I think anyone else would enjoy them more than I would. The seasoning was fine on it. Lastly, the pork chops were good. A little tough and dry, but that could have been from the delivery. Liked the fries; pretty standard. Overall, I really want to like this place a lot. Maybe I caught them on an off day. Unfortunately, the sides were the main thing I really couldn't get pass. Taiya and Shon (the owner and her daughter) welcomed us for lunch with a huge tasting menu of really delicious soul food - red beans & rice, fried wings, grits, catfish, shrimp, collard greens, hush puppies, mac & cheese, green beans, cole slaw - all delicious! After making our choices (lots of debate!), we placed our catering order through their website, and Taiya brought in a feast for 40 of us for just under $20 per person. Our event was a hit; Taiya was great to work with throughout, and we think you'll love this spot! The Comfort Zone food is truly fantastic. You might have trouble finding the front door but it is hiding in plain sight on Rainier Ave S. It's located in a black gentleman's club that has music some evenings. If you are not African-American, I'm not, please don't hesitate to go there. They are very welcoming. The food was really good!! Service was also very kind. Like many others mentioned, it was a little hard to find but once we meandered inside we figured it out. We got chicken and waffles with sides of mac and cheese and collard greens with turkey. The food is definitely cooked with love. The mac and cheese was, we both agreed, the best we've ever and made everything worth it. That being said, we know it's hard to prepare food this way (and so well!!) and still be cost-effective. The overall cost for how much food we got was still a little surprising to us, nonetheless. The environment was also a little strange to us - it's cool that it's in a club, and we overheard the manager saying to the other customers that some nights are busier than others, but we were one of two parties there. The venue is huge, and I feel like they may benefit from having a more intimate setting. The utensils, cups and bowls were also all plastic, which certainly makes things easier for busy times but was a little atypical for this area. I finally had an opportunity to eat here last night while celebrating my friends birthday! I'm so happy. I had the two wings, a pork chop, greens, and red beans and rice. Yikes! Like others who have recently posted, I had seen their great reviews for Southern Soul food and came by to give it a try, but was extremely disappointed. The place is a total dive with some unsavory characters in the bar. I was first greeted by the taped up/shattered glass front entry door (see photo) which immediately sent up red flags. Next was an obnoxious drunk in the bar who kept yelling about wanting his Tequila shots and other demands that he made to Robin, the very flustered bartender. If this guy is a regular, he is totaling killing their business. The kitchen brought out my fried catfish fillet order with a side of boring cooked cabbage (they were out of greens and it was going to be half hour for more) and bland white rice.
