Christine our waitress was great. The food, service and experience was better than I anticipated and highly recommend this place. Over the top! You have to have the white chocolate bread pudding swimming in a luscious sea of caramel sauce, that alone was worth the trip, but I must also say the food experience overall was far above what I was expecting for such a humble place. I was recently on vacation and staying in the area. I was so happy I decided to give this place a try! The food was fantastic, the service was quick and very pleasant. I actually ate there twice during my one week stay and will make sure to go again this next time I visit Concord. First off, great service. Very pleasant, and the items that were not cooked here (beer, cocktails, crackers, soda) arrived quickly and were pleasantly delivered. Food? Absolutely not good. Really not good. I'm fighting using the word ghastly. An encouraging menu with some daring twists, but not very edible. Crispy pork belly with maple glaze = pork jerky w/hint of maple sugar. My salmon, requested a little rare came (literally) lightly broiled on the top and room temperature, unseasoned, uncooked through out. Might be better if one sticks to the staples, but the food was just not good. A real disappointment, given our very positive experiences at the Camp, the Lakehouse, and the Town dock in Merideth, at the Tilt'n Diner, and at other Common Man properties. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for 22 years and have always had a wonderful experience even on the busiest of nights. The staff were familiar with us and very supportive and kind to our son as he was growing up. The atmosphere was always relaxed and welcoming. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. However, we went in there on Saturday night and it was very busy. We had a 45 minute wait for our table, which is fine. That's not a long wait considering that it was so busy! We went up to the lounge as usual to have some drinks while we waited for our table. All of the seats were full in one section so we went to the other section and all of those seats were full except for a couch, but it looked like it belonged to a group. They kindly offered it to us, but we declined because we didn't want to invade their group. We decided to go to the other side and just order our drinks and take a seat when one came up. Then a staff member came to us and and offered us a seat at the bar. She was ubrupt about it, but due to a back injury, I told her that I couldn't sit on the hard surface of the chair, she interrupted me and said "This is all I have!" We said it's fine and we'll wait. Then two of the small bar tables became available. One was taken by a waiting couple and the other was offered to us by couple of the other table. My husband and I thanked them and went to sit down (these seats had a bit of cushining so I could sit on them). The same staff member approached me and my husband and asked if we were having dinner in the bar and we said "no" that we're waiting for our table, but were going to have drinks and cheese and crackers while we wait. She then asked us how the long wait is for our table, because she'd rather save the bar table for somebody who wants to eat at the bar rather than have us take it "just to have drinks while you wait". She was so rude about it in her attitude. She went away. Nobody else claimed the bar table so we sat there. We ordered our drinks from a different bar tender who was very polite. After awhile my husband went to check on our table. The hostess informed him that they removed us from the list because we were sitting at the small bar table upstairs and assumed we were having dinner there. Nobody had told us about this change. If we didn't ask, we would have never known. My husband instructed them to put us back on the list for the dining room, which they did and we got our table shortly thereafter. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was one of heavy stress. The relaxing atmosphere we usually experience was far gone. Over the past 22 years, we've been there during busy, short staffed nights like this, but we were never told that we couldn't sit have a drink while we waited for our table. We were dropping alot of money for drinks and we had dinner as well so we were paying as much as everybody else. It was so disappointing to be treated in that manner. I've never had that happen to me before at any restaurant. I don't know if we'll go back there. read more

Stopped in here with some friends on our way back from a hiking trip. We enjoyed a nice time out on the deck which is part of the lounge. While the weather was nice and we enjoyed ourselves the fact that the deck overlooks the off-ramp for 93 is a bit weird. The menu in the lounge was a cut down version of what they serve in the restaurant section although we didn't really mind. They had a nice diverse drink menu, but we ordered a pitcher of sangria. It was ok, but certainly nothing special. Then we had an order of the nachos with chicken on them. While the nachos were huge and the cheese was plentiful the amount of olives, jalapenos and beans was short of what I was expecting. I then had the Bison burger for my meal. I liked the bun it came in which was some sort of hybrid between whole wheat and brioche. The burger itself was a little over cooked for the medium rare I ordered it with, but I figure that was just because the cook was not used to how fast bison cooks. I also had the sweet potato fries instead of the regular ones which were very good. They even came with a side a maple syrup which was very tasty with them. The first time, we drove all the way to the Lake Winnipesaukee area because my boyfriend wanted to go back for his birthday dinner (he had a mac n' cheese pizza there once). Granted, we turned it into a kayaking/overnight trip, so we didn't technically drive all the way there *just* to go to Common Man, but it was the seed that planted the idea for the trip. Today, we were on our way home from Vermont, and were looking for something for lunch, and happened to be passing through Concord around lunchtime. We looked up the Common Man locations and were psyched to find a Concord location. Oh Yelp, you came through for one person but not for me on this one. I can see why people like this place but the food did not reach par for me. I wasn't expecting a stellar dinner but was hoping for something good at least. Let's start off that the service was wonderful! Our server was chipper and prompt. I loved that she gave me an honest answer when I was deciding between the lobster mac & cheese and the rainbow trout. To start the tap water is great so you won't need bottled. The free bread and cheese and crackers were good as well. We had an applesauce zucchini bread with fresh cibatta. The cheese was an herbed cheese like aloutte/boursin and some other cheese that wasn't that good. Ok now to the nitty-gritty, the house salad was more like a bush. There were so many different kinds of lettuce and not so much cuckes and tomatoes. They did add a few edible flowers that was interesting. We ordered, the stuffed shrimp, rainbow trout, buffalo chicken, and prime rib. All fell short except for the prime rib. The stuffed shrimp was drenched in butter, the trout's sauce was too overpowering, and the buffalo chicken tasted nothing like buffalo all he could taste was bacon and onions. The prime rib was " good but not great" (the words of the person who ate it) It was tender but too much butter. 1/4 of the steak was covered in a melted dollop of butter. They ended with giving you free chunks of white chocolate which was a nice touch but couldn't save the overall meal experience. read more

I would recommend this place to anyone traveling through this area. Went back to the restaurant the next night, the place was packed. The Common Man is definitely one of my favorite restaurant chains! I eat gluten free and I am happy with the variety on the menu. My favorite thing to get here is the chicken wings (I always order a large so I can have PLENTY of leftovers, lol). I really like the upstairs lounge, ; it's very relaxing during the weekdays (I try to go during the weekdays to avoid the large crowds). This is probably my favorite restaurant in Concord. read more

I am from California and just happened to stop here for dinner at the bar on my way to our family reunion in Harpswell , Maine. Both the food and the service especially with Katy at the bar are simply wonderful!! I started with the Uncommon Salad with candied hazelnuts and vinaigrette dressing. Then for dinner I had the Yankee Pot Roast that was superb especially with the home made dinner rolls topped with parm cheese and garlic. I hope to pass this way again. read more

Came in here with a coworker and I must say that I;m glad we did. The wait was super long which was odd for a Tuesday but maybe there is a reason for the popularity. Anyway, I got the uncommon salad to start and also an uncommon surf and turf. Both were excellent. Service was excellent. They give you home made white chocolate at the end! Now, the best part was the rare old ads and magazines they have toward the restrooms. I found some super cool old VW ads that totally made my night. Overall, great experience. We were in town for only one night. Choose this place as was walking distance from our hotel. Sat in the lounge. Kristy our server was very attentive. She checked with us frequently as she felt meal was taking too long. My fish was overcooked but she and manager Scott took care of the issue very promptly and the new piece of fish was perfectly cooked. The lobster & corn chowder was delicious, full of lobster. This place is wonderful, if you are looking for a meal that is not your typical Resturant fare. If you happen to bring your kids, they have a small menu of some kid friendly favorites. For a starter the Mrs. and I split the Escargot and a Caesar Salad. The Escargot was very tasty in the butter and garlic sauce it was broiled in. The Caesar Salad was your typical salad, nothing fancy. For our entrée we split the Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Pot Roast. I would recommend the Pot Roast due to the fact the meat was very tender and full of flavor. Honestly this is the best Pot Roast I've ever had; a must try. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was delicious and full of Lobster Chunks, but can hold a candle to the Pot Roast. I will definitely be back when I come to Concord again. read more

The staff is really friendly and sweet. The food is good and has a homely flavor (something you don't come across too often). What I especially enjoy is that this restaurant gives you the alternative of not stuffing yourself with a zillion calories mainly from sauces and marinades (you can find healthy, non-fattening stuff on the menu, e.g the veggies with the linguine & the Parmesan). If you want something more on the greasy side, the pizza is terrific, otherwise no worries, the menu gives you a ton of choices. The atmosphere & decoration are cozy. The prices are reasonable. Great is an understatement. Prices reasonable service good. I had the "Yankee pot roast" and it was as good as my mother used to make. They have a full bar and some great drink specials. My only problem was I did not know the waiting list could be an hour and a half on Sunday night. I don't know if they take reservations or not but I would certainly try next time. My family and I have never had to pay for any of our meals here thank god. check usually come to be close to $200-$300 by the end of the night for an average family of 4. Service was slow and our waitress was a bit crass. We sat for 20 minutes without drinks. A bit disappointing to say the least. My chicken was a bit dry but the stuffing and sauces saved it. Somehow the vegetables were undercooked while being overcooked at the same time. Mashed potatoes were also a bit dry. Concord is apparently not a foodie town. The wait staff at the Common Man was nice and friendly but the promised fresh bread never arrived. My wife's wedge salad consisted of a quarter of Romaine lettuce rather than the usual iceberg. She said her lobster corn chowder soup "tastes like dishwater." My evening special prime rib was "flash grilled," and covered with sauteed onions and peppers - cold onions and peppers. The prime rib was apparently leftovers from Saturday, hence the flash grilled. Hint: when the menu says prime rib Friday and Saturday only, don't order the prime rib special on Sunday. The food was adequate at best and overpriced for the quality. I debated on giving it two stars but felt generous. read more
