I forgot to check in every time I have come to this Common Man location. I have been in at least 5x in the past 2 years. It's a popular place & sometimes parking can get full. The recent visit was for a work-related meeting & me and my manager decided to go to the upstairs bar because we hadn't been up there before. I like the atmosphere of the entire place. We were told about the complimentary cheese & crackers, but didn't have any by choice. Our server, who didn't say what his name was, seemed to be annoyed. Not sure if that's the correct word, but it's what comes to mind. I don't know if it is his demeanor, but he came off a bit sarcastic & like we were bothering him. He didn't come around very often, but when he initially greeted us, it seemed like we were taking too long to make a decision on what we wanted to eat. *Shrug* I had the grilled chicken sandwich with ranch. I upgraded to the sweet potato fries, which were awesome. The sandwich was very, very flavorful & the chicken was juicy. I couldn't finish it, but every bite was great. My manager had the BLT flatbread & seemed to enjoy it. We were 'all business' that day so we didn't talk much about our food or service (until a day or so later). Before leaving, I ordered the Mighty Mac burger to go to bring home to my husband. It was loaded with spiral macaroni & was cooked perfectly to the requested medium temperature. I stole a bite (despite being full from my meal earlier) & found it to be great. Total comfort food & perfect for a mid-week dinner. A fantastic experience start to finish. While we waited for our table, I enjoyed the complimentary cheese and crackers. The bread offerings included a sweet blueberry bread and a warm herb roll that was incredible. For my main course, I selected the Apple Walnut Chicken, which was fantastic!!! My husband had the meatloaf which he liked, but ended up finishing my chicken because he liked that better. Amora, our waitress, was very attentive and patient with our many questions. My wife, kids and I love the Common Man restaurants. We visited after a day trip in NH mountains on our way home. Our server was Christine, at first she was very polite. However, it took almost an hour to get our entreees after we ordered them. We were never offered bread, we had to ask for it after sitting at our table bored for 40 minutes. I would have asked sooner, but she was nowhere to be found. She seemed to have too many tables to serve or something. Usually we dig into the cheese and crackers, but they seemed to have run out of cheese this night. We finally got a basket of bread, which was delicious. They don't just have generic rolls, their garlic rolls are awesome. We finally got our food. My kids seemed to like the kids pasta, it looked gross to me. My wife had steak, it was actually amazing, she shared some with me. I had sesame ahi tuna on salad, also very good. This review is for the bar/lounge upstairs, not the main restaurant. The place has a country cabin type theme and it was nice that they had live music for part of the evening. I sat at the bar instead of a table and was pleasantly surprised to see that I could order from the main restaurant dinner menu if I so desired and was not limited to the bar menu. I nonetheless ordered a smokehouse burger from the latter hoping to have a savory meal rich in flavor. The burger itself was cooked perfectly but the flavors just weren't there. Perhaps there was too much going on with it to have an emerging taste profile? Who knows. But the fries were pretty good. Despite sitting at the bar, I was dismayed to have lackluster service. There were three times when the bartender checked in on the parties to my left and right but completely ignored me and my empty beer and water glasses. This persisted throughout the night and left a bad impression with me. Poor service and a meh burger nets a lower overall rating. Others may like this place (the couple next to me was raving about everything!) but for me it hovered around mediocre--and that's being a touch generous. read more

Went for lunch yesterday with two other friends. Since I have been there in the past and loved the Sweet Corn Bacon ravioli, I highly recommended this dish to my friends. Imagine our surprise when the dishes arrived with a bright orange cream sauce. Was it food coloring that was added to the dish? When ordered in the past, it was more of a light cream color sauce where you could see the corn, and other vegetables. This was suggested by family and friends as we were visiting NH. The atmosphere was like a home or cabin, very pleasant and inviting. Our meals were pleasing to both the eye and the palate. The fish was fresh and the meat was tender. As I reflect, our server Logan was kind but unfortunately far too absent. He never introduced himself, did not tell us about the complimentary cheese and crackers, no specials were mentioned and a poor job on the upsell or a variety of suggestions for a new customer. We asked for beverages and to clear plates and cups from our table. Did Logan not see the obvious? If you want customers to return sooner or later...you need to be excited about your menu and service should be above the norm. I've eaten at the C-man in Ashland many times and love its vibe and spirit. The one in Concord has none of that...and some of the worst food I've eaten in ages. The $25 salmon was clearly some pre-frozen nonsense and my kid's plate was frozen terrible broccoli and frozen terrible chicken fingers. My husband says his burger was pretty good. We had apple walnut chicken (speciality), sticky Thai meatballs, and a wedge salad. We had martinis (blood orange and salted Carmel mocha (dessert)), water, and beers as drinks. Came to the Common man in concord to eat. Informed the server that I cant eat onions, (allergy). When my order showed up it had a pile of onions on it. At best this puts me in the ICU, at worst, it will kill me. If I had not checked my food and trusted that I got what I asked for Id be either on respiratory support or dead. They did say they could make me a new one but by the time I was able to get service the person I was eating with was already over 1/2 way done and I wasn't going to make them wait. I asked to have the order removed which I don't believe they did. Checking the menu there was an appetizer and 1 burger to be charged to the bill with my food meal removed, it was still $56. I checked their menu online and the only way to get to that total is if they did NOT in fat remove my meal. So in the end I spent over 2 hours in the car to be served food I could not eat then charged for it after it was agreed that it would be removed. I have several reservations at the Common Mans lodging at another site over this coming winter. I can not in good conscience do business with this company at this point and will be canceling all the reservations. I do not recommend this company or brand to anyone. There's a huge difference between an accidental dip in quality, a mis heard or mis entered order, and putting someones life at risk. read more

Super attentive. We ate upstairs in the bar/lounge area at a high top. My wife was finishing feeding the little one in the car so they sat my son and I so I could order. Crab cakes. Lobster and corn chowder. Chicken wrap. Veggie burger. Everything was tasty and fresh. Cozy atmosphere. People were very accommodating. I see some reviews about wait times and lists. I was discriminated against and treated differently by the hostess, Mandy. She said her policy was to not seat anyone unless their whole party was there. It was a slow Monday night at 5:45 p.m. She refused to seat me even when my husband and 5 year old were getting out of the car. However, the incomplete party ahead of me and behind me were both offered to be seated. When I questioned Mandy about her policy, she lied to me and said I told her I wanted to wait for my husband and son. This is completely untrue. The only differences between the other parties and myself was that I am a person of color. We walked out and vowed to never support a business that is outright prejudice and racist towards people of color. Do better, The Common Man. First off, the ambiance is very welcoming. Think Cracker Barrel, but like the staff all had braces growing up. There is the dining room downstairs and a lounge area upstairs. I sat upstairs in the quieter lounge area. The waitress was very nice and not judging considering I was the only table dining alone. I ordered a bottle of the "Comman Man Cabernet Savignon" and the NY Sirloin, med rare, with "crispy fries" instead of the mashed potatoes. It came with a side medley of zucchini, summer squash and green beans. After ordering, the lovely waitress informed me of the self-serve cracker and cheese bar located a mere 15ish feet from my table. The steak was cooked perfectly to a med rare as requested. The NY Sirloin had a topping of crispy onions and bacon caramelized butter. The vegetables were as expected, seasoned and cooked al dente. The fries on their own were subpar. But, paired with the herb and cheese spread from the cheese bar: magnificent. The house cabernet savignon was very good. Not the best I've ever had but very good for a house cab. It was bottled by winery out of CA especially for the restaurant. It was full bodied, fruity and paired perfectly with the NY Sirloin. It had a decent afterglow with a hint of tannins as an afterthought. Overall, for a decent price, The Comman Man was an excellent experience. I've been coming to Common Man for years mostly work related. Recently retired and staying at hotel for two days nearby due to Power Outage. Wish I didn't wait so long to come back . This place was described to me as the quintessential New England meal. I do not really know what that means, but the description is fitting. Your meal includes the cheese bar, where you are able to slice your own cheese and try two (2) cheese dips. Any meal is enhanced with all you can eat cheese. I moved on to the Lobster Corn Chowder which was tasty and included a large lump of lobster and mini cornbread. I then had Nantucket Pie, which was filled with seafood. The only negative was that I stuffed myself and was unable to eat dessert. There were several options that I wanted to try, including the house-made ice cream. While I do not know when I will be back in Concord, this is certainly a place I plan to revisit whenever I am in New Hampshire. read more

Decided to eat at the Common Man before an Air Supply concert. We waited 10 minutes for the bartender to give us water. She left the bar for a bit, which is totally not acceptable. Didn't give us menus or tell us any specials. The bar was not packed with people so she had no excuses. The nachos were delicious! But the mussels were NOT cooked, which in our opinion is a liability. Got that taken off the bill with no apology. My drink was good but my friend sent hers back. Our water had his skinny jeans on way too tight. He couldn't suggest a steak because he has never tried one. He couldn't recommend a seafood dish as he dislikes seafood. When he recommended a apple cider sangria he couldn't tell me if it was sweet or light or even if it had cinnamon because he doesn't drink. Waiters are not only there to take orders, they should be well versed on the menu. They should be able to describe drinks. This place is really cute! We came here after a 5 hour drive from New York City. The atmosphere was really laid back, comfortable vibe. We just ordered snack food since we came at 9 pm. They still had people dining in the dining room but we chose to go up to the second floor lounge/bar. We ordered the truffle tots to share, and I had the uncommon salad and onion soup. Perfect portions for the price and the tots were nice and crisp but not greasy. Just a lunch stop at this place in Concord. I hadn't realised at the time that it's actually part of a chain, but don't let that put you off as the food is pretty good! I had the Sesame Seared Tuna with Avocado-Wasabi dressing on a bed of alfalfa sprouts and crispy wontons on the side, which was absolutely delicious, although the portion size was more like a starter portion I thought.
