I had the Sesame Seared Tuna with Avocado-Wasabi dressing on a bed of alfalfa sprouts and crispy wontons on the side, which was absolutely delicious, although the portion size was more like a starter portion I thought. This location was a first for us. We ate outside on the small deck off of the upstairs bar area. Three tables out there, first come basis. Nothing fancy but we felt safer outside. Our water had his skinny jeans on way too tight. He couldn't suggest a steak because he has never tried one. He couldn't recommend a seafood dish as he dislikes seafood. When he recommended a apple cider sangria he couldn't tell me if it was sweet or light or even if it had cinnamon because he doesn't drink. Waiters are not only there to take orders, they should be well versed on the menu. They should be able to describe drinks. As far as being more concerned with the sweet talk...an informed waiter is far more impressive than a brown nosing one. My steak was over cooked and dry. After a long two years of essentially quarantining ourselves, the three of us are finally back on the road. This time, we were headed to the White Mountainsfor the day. Although we don't usually eat first, we were all hungry, so we ended up in Concord, NH at the Common Man restaurant. They own several places around New Hampshire, I believe. It's easy to get to, and has plenty of parking. We were greeted by the hostess, and shown to a table immediately. My friend and sister ordered the steak frites, and I had the pot roast. They don't bring bread to the table, but they do offer a "crackers and cheese table". I wasn't interested, so I didn't go see it, but my friend did. She came back with nothing in her hands, and said that it was very basic. Our waitress was attentive, got us our waters and sodas, then took our orders. We hadn't seen each other for a while, so we had plenty to talk about, and yet we waited long enough for our food that we still noted it, along with the fact that people who were there when we got there had no food, either. It seemed as if the kitchen was backed up, for some reason, because just before we got ours, everyone else got theirs, as if they all came up at the same time. My friend and sister really liked the steak frites - the steaks were cooked correctly, were tender, and tasted good. They came with truffle fries, which had my friend asking for ones without, as I knew she would. My sister liked her truffle fries, but I had the same reaction to truffles as I always do - tastes like dirt. My pot roast was plentiful, tender, and flavorful. Unfortunately, I wasn't fond of the flavor that was ladled all over it - the au jus, or gravy - had a bitter note that put me off. The mashed were good - although I wished there was more - and so were the green beans, although they were lukewarm. The bathrooms were nice and clean, and the service was good. *** Not Vegan or Vegetarian Friendly *** (read my update below to find out more) My boyfriend and I have been hearing about this local NH restaurant chain since we moved to NH a few years ago. We finally gave it a try. Typing the restaurant's address into the GPS takes you to an entirely different town, so be careful! After doing a huge loop for 10 minutes we finally got there. The atmosphere is nice, with a nod to rural life, farming, the outdoors, etc. It took about 20 minutes to get waters, and to order. Very, very few veggie options. I ordered a veggie burger with fries, and my boyfriend ordered a portobello burger with chips. Our food took around 30 minutes to hit the table (at this point we're 50 minutes in, with no water refills.) This was @ 2 pm, with just four other tables filled. Veggie Burger: Very greasy bun, tasteless mushy patty, and this weird topping of "broccoli slaw" that was overdressed and greasy. Just weird. There was also some kind of mystery cheese-like stuff *under* my burger that I didn't ask for. Unless that was supposed to be the aioli. Which, looking at the menu, I guess that's what that was. It was thick like cheese, and just added another layer of fat. Everything was greasy and tasteless. Except the fries: those were greasy but good. Portobello Burger: Terrible. The burger was not a mushroom steak like you'd expect! It was just a few tiny, thin *shreds!* of mushroom, undetectable to the palate because there was just none of it in there. My boyfriend was essentially eating a single piece of lettuce with a greasy bun, and was absolutely famished afterward. They had also obviously given him the end of the chips bag, which was like 1/4 cup of crumbs on his plate and a few tiny shards big enough to eat, but they were burnt. We had to go buy him food somewhere else after having already dropped $15 on his meal! Basically, the food was mediocre to just plain bad, the wait times were ridiculous, and the prices were high for what you got. Fun for drinks maybe, but you can do that anywhere. UPDATE: Called out from work today, puked my brains out all night and day, and still am totally nauseous 24 hours later, because they cooked my veggie burger on an uncleaned grill with meat on it!! Totally obvious. This level of pain is completely identifiable, I've felt it whenever meat has "been slipped into" something I've eaten. My body doesn't make enzymes to process it and it makes me EXTREMELY ILL. For days. I'm lowering my 1 star to -100 stars now. Decided to eat at the Common Man before an Air Supply concert. We waited 10 minutes for the bartender to give us water. She left the bar for a bit, which is totally not acceptable. Didn't give us menus or tell us any specials. The bar was not packed with people so she had no excuses. The nachos were delicious! But the mussels were NOT cooked, which in our opinion is a liability. Got that taken off the bill with no apology. My drink was good but my friend sent hers back. The staff was a little miffed that we sent the drink back. Needless to say, not the best experience. But the meals around us looked pretty good. read more

The service was great. Kayla was friendly and attentive. It's not her fault that the food was disappointing and overpriced. I ordered a wedge salad and there were just a few leaves of Romaine, not the half described on the menu and very little blue cheese and bacon. It was good but more like a side salad. The house cabernet was not great, I've had better at my local Chinese restaurant. My friend ordered the pesto broiled haddock, it was tiny maybe 4oz of fish tops, a couple of slices of zucchini and a spoonful of mashed potatoes, definitely not worth $22.00. My first time visiting a common man restaurant. They have 2 areas of seating, dining area and the pub upstairs. Couches are present in the pub where they provide service as well. Got the uncommon wings, smokehouse burger and chicken tenders for lunch. Uncommon wings were really good. Got it with buffalo sauce though I couldn't really taste it but would recommend it nonetheless. Smokehouse burger was delish as well. The at the bottom got soaked a bit and the jam was alright. The burger itself was very good though. Sweet potato fries that came with it were good as well. Overall good experience, service was very good too. We found this restaurant when we were traveling from Maine to Boston . We came to Maine for family vacation . So we just stop randomly in this restaurant for lunch and we were amazed by the food and decor and customer service . Overall experience is great . Their customer service is superb . Lisa was at upstairs bar on Sunday June 25th. Asked to make a request on the hibiscus margarita. I wanted just soda water instead of sour mix and was told there wouldn't be enough water. So she suggested orange juice. Worst drink ever. I asked for a soda water and had to use use my straw to put the soda water to cut the sweetness. Service was very slow and none was there. Arrived on A Saturday night, but the place was surprisingly empty, and we could see why. The service was VERY slow and the food was poorly prepared. My wife ordered the Nantucket Pie, the most expensive dinner on the menu, which was to include shrimp, haddock, scallops and lobster...NO LOBSTER! Don't bother with call ahead! Last night at approximately 6:30 pm I called the Concord location and asked if you did call ahead seating. I was told yes, that they were running about a 40 minute wait for 2. They took my name and phone number. At 7:10 we went to the restaurant and were promptly told it would be another 30 minutes because "drive time doesn't count" by a young man. We left. At all other establishments we frequent call ahead puts us in line and reduces the time and number of people waiting in or near the building - something that is very important these days. When you arrive parking is a little tight but they have additional parking across the street on a fenced in dirt lot. Lol. I did mention country bumpkin right?? My bartenders name was Laura very sweet extremely polite very willing to have a conversation helped me with my food choices. First I went over and got the complementary cheeses my god you have to try them all with crackers excellent excellent excellent. For my main choice I went with the New England pot roast with red bliss mashed potatoes. I also substituted my vegetable medley for $1.99 I upgraded to the Common Man salad which included greens walnuts Gorgonzola cheese and a nice raspberry vinaigrette everything was served promptly was cooked perfectly. I wish I could give a 0 star to this restaurant as we didn't even get to eat here in that our family had made a "reservation"/put our name on this list for tonight's dinner. They let us know that it would be an hour wait and that they would call us when our party was ready. We had little kids and two babies that we were having wait for that hour and we arrived at the restaurant within a few minutes of when our time would be up. When we had arrived my wife went to check in and we're told that it would be a two hour wait. She explained that we were on the wait list and they said that it didn't matter in that we had to be at the location at that time. We were not told that and actually told that we were on the list and it would be an hour from that call being we were on the list. We were a party of 5 and showed up at 5:30 on a Sunday. We were told there was a 20 minute wait. We waited 30 min which wasn't a big deal. However we were at the restaurant a total of 2 hours and 20 min. The SLOWEST service. Not the wait staffs fault. The kitchen is way too slow. We love it here. Every time we stay near one, we eat at one. Our kids love the food options and we love the beer menu as well as the appetizers and entrées. Everything we've ordered has always been very flavorful and good portion size. Friendly and accommodating staff and really cute/country atmosphere inside the restaurant. Love their new call ahead system due to Covid. No more waiting around their crowded lobby area for a table. After a 45 minute wait to get a table, once seated, we waited another 10 minutes for a server. There were 5 people in our party, and all of us had at least one issue with our food. Ahi tuna salad supposed to be on brussels & kale, it was spring mix instead. Veggie burger on Asian bowl was completely burned on all edges...not edible. Both burgers were nearly rare (supposed to be medium well & medium rare). We've always had very consistent service & food here, so this was disappointing. They are obviously understaffed, so I sympathize with that, but we also saw a manager just walking around not doing much of anything other than checking in with customers, but never made it to our table. read more

Our waitress started the conversation by offering us warm cider with a cinnamon sugar rim. Yes please! The waiters are incredibly friendly and welcoming. All of our food was tasty, and the portions were huge. We had a corn and lobster chowder that was packed with lobster, but priced like a corn chowder. We have never been here for dinner but have attended a few events.... Anniversary, Birthday, Wedding Reception...Etc. each one was fabulous! They have accommodations which can seat 15 - 60 people comfortably. The Food is always INCREDIBLE & The staff is extra courteous and often went above and beyond their call of duty. The atmosphere is quaint and everything around you has a rustic/old timers feel. The open beams and woodcraft in this restaurant is truly beautiful. Prices are a little on the higher side but I heard they have a happy hour and offer specials which would be a little easier on the wallet.... This is not one of our normal go to hang out spots but if our schedule eventually allows to stop in during one of their specials or a happy hour I would be more than willing - sometimes it's good to change things up a bit. One more thing... Concord's Common Man is very conveniently located on South Main Street & it's within a mile to the Capital Center for the Arts just in case you wanted to grab a drink or fill your tummy before ( or after ) a show. I used to love coming here before COVID hit. I called a few times over the months to try and get some carry out. The line was always busy and I could never get through to place an order. A few weeks ago, I ended up getting through! We ordered two filets of salmon with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The salmon was dry as a bone, unseasoned, and cold to the touch. I will note that we waited in the lobby and picked up the food right away when it came out, and ate it five minutes later when we got home. The green beans were coated in excessive oil, and overly seasoned with salt, yet barely cooked at all. It seemed more like raw beans in oil and salt. The mashed potatoes seemed to either be from a mix, or going old. They had clumps of dry, un-reconstituted potato starch that would either be from a box or just old potatoes sitting out. Either way, charging what they did, I felt ripped off. I totally understand the busy lines, and long waits, thats the Pandemic. But the quality of the food was unfortunately not worth half the cost they charged. read more

A true New Hampshire institution and today with first time visitors ever to New Hampshire, the Common Man did not disappoint. In fact, they provided an absolute 5-star lunching experience! Our server, Bonnie, was amazing. Upon hearing that our friends had never been to NH, she asked the chef to open the entire menu to them, which included the dinner menu that was not available for lunch, and they obliged . An amazing gesture and something that I had never experienced in all of my years of dinning! Let me just start by saying that everything we ate was incredible, so if you're not included to read further, I totally understand, but if you are, start with the Rock Crab Cake starter! Now understand something here, I grew up the son of a lobsterman on an island in Maine's Casco Bay, so I feel an authority on such matters, and the crab cakes were off of the hook! Delicious. Trust me, you can't go wrong if you love crab cakes. Oh, to be clear, all five of us gave them a 6-rating! By opening the menu to our visitors, they were able to order the seafood casserole, which they raved about. Admittedly, I did not try any because they split the dish and I didn't feel I should take away from their shear enjoyment. They wanted seafood in NH and that's what the Common Man gave them. Our other visitor had the Lobster Corn Chowder and it was perfectly done. The broth was spot on and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. My significant other had the New England Pot Roast, something that is way too heavy for me for lunch, but she raved about it. In fact, our friends commented that they should have gotten that AND the seafood casserole and split both. The pot roast was amazing and the mashed potatoes were perfect. By opening their dinner menu to us, I ordered the Crab Crusted Haddock! Simple review - freaking amazing! The Common Man is uncommonly good for everything it represents about New Hampshire, today they were above and beyond perfection! This restaurant is terrible and it ruined my entire vacation! First, I called ahead to make sure there wouldn't be a big wait and they assured me that the wait would be no more than 10 minutes. We arrived to see a huge line with an over 30-minute wait, but despite this, we stayed due to hearing all of the great reviews on this site, YOU ARE ALL LIARS! Next, my burger was undercooked and too spicy for my liking, it felt like I was eating fast food rather than a sit-down meal because of how greasy it was. My husband said his meal was atrocious and unacceptable for a restaurant with this reputation. Both of my children took two bites of their meals before saying they tasted wrong and couldn't finish them. I am aware of how harsh this is but it is my experience and I thought I should share it with you all, if I could give fewer stars I would! read more
