My first choice tonight was Copper Door but they had more than an hour wait so we decided to try common man again. Bad decision. At about 8:30 we sat at the bar upstairs. I like the casual comfortable ambiance there. We were ignored by the elderly bar staff as they were busy cleaning up to close. Oh, they close at 9:30, more than an hour from when we arrived but clearly that was their priority. They finally took our drink and food orders. I asked if I could get a side salad instead of fries and she said no, just green beans or asparagus. The drink took awhile although it was NOT busy. My martini was about 2/3 full, so in reality not a full drink. My dates burger was shoe leather and mine was raw. Literally red and cold in the center. I showed the waitress and she said "I'm not sure what to do about that". She asked if I wanted a new one and I said yes. (I think she wanted me to give her permission to just microwave it.) She never asked my date how his was until he was done and when he told her it was overcooked she said nothing. When she returned with my new burger he was already done eating. The ramekin of ketchup on the plate was spilled all over the fries and part of the burger. I hate ketchup so this was a problem and I told her so. She just laughed and said "really?!" I ate about half my burger (the half without ketchup on it) and no fries. She asked if I wanted a box and I said absolutely not. She offered a free dessert but we were really done at that point. Service is everything. I should have waited an hour at copper door where you always get amazing service and food. If anything at all is wrong they take care of it. They don't make you feel like you are bothering them and they can't wait for you to leave so they can go home! Zero stars tonight common man. read more

4 of us sat in the upstairs lounge on a Saturday evening. It was crowded but not loud, which we really appreciated. Drinks were unremarkable, standard fare. Broad food menu from pub fare to seafood. 2 of us had prime rib, both were overcooked. Sent 1back, it was better but it's like they heat it on a grill so dark outside. Came with green beans and mashed potatoes. Both sides were good. The Nantucket (Seafood) Pie was ok. I expected buttery crumbs but it was seafood swimming in "lobster" sauce. Tasty but like newburg. 4 smallish sea scallops, 4 small shrimp, small piece of haddock. Meh. Service was good. read more

I attended a surprise 80th birthday party at The Common Man in Windham last evening. We were seated in a private nook at a large round table that accommodated us comfortably. Our server, Cathy, did a phenomenal job-taking our food and drink choices, telling us about the special dinners TWICE! our glasses were never empty and our dinners came out quickly and hot. We started with shared appetizers-Arancini, Almost Escargot and Mexican Street Corn Dip. They were all very good, but my favorite was the Arancini which came with a red pepper cream sauce, basil and shaved Parmesan. The bread for the table last night was garlic rolls and Blueberry Lemon bread, warm from the oven. We all had cocktails. Many of us had Signature Margaritas-very yummy! The dinner choices for the table included Steak Tips, Wedge Salad, Smokehouse Burgers, Haddock Dinner and a Seafood Fra Diablo special. Some of us, including me, had Street Corn Bowl, which was very good. The others added chicken to theirs. I love the atmosphere at The Common Man-so homey and welcoming with the blazing wood fire in the large fireplace. There is a table of help yourself cheese and crackers. Conveniently located right off art 93. Plenty of on-site parking. Recommended without hesitation. read more

Meal was pretty bad. I've never been a fan here. My wife loves the chicken dish. I've tried a different dish EVERY visit hoping I'd find something decent, unfortunately never been able to score a decent meal. Today, my wife said the prime rib always looked good and I should try it. My wife wanted to try something different too. She ordered the steak tips and I ordered the prime rib. She said her steak was a little chewy but tasty. My prime rib was VERY chewy. It was probably one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. Flavor of the prime rib was a bit bland. I'm suppose to go to a high end steakhouse this coming Wednesday evening for an event and told my wife I'm pretty scarred from my experience that I'm not looking forward to Wednesday's dinner! They won't disappoint! One of our favorite restaurants when visiting New Hampshire. Every location has their own unique building and interior design, but it's always so homey and comfortable. (The fireplaces are lit in the winter, definitely try to visit then) We had Kalei, who was fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and very good with my gluten allergy. Food is always good. Homemade style cooked meals, perfect for a family dinner. They offer cheese and crackers for free, as well as homemade bread and another loaf option (they had the white chocolate pound cake tonight). We had the mediterranean bowl and the smokehouse burger, both delicious. Portions were great. They cooked the burger exactly as we asked. The outside looks like a old farm house from the time when farming was the way of the Common Man inside of the restaurant was rustic and homey as well. The waitress was very nice and professional and pleasant. The potato skins were awesome cooked just right with cheese and bacon chives sour cream as well we were a party of three and the Burrata chicken was delicious and the Caesar salad with Steak tips was amazing as well I had a Bacon cheeseburger with French was great everything was perfect and the drinks were just as good the whole meal was great and reasonably priced good job read more

I had the grilled steak tips medium. they were so tender and full of flavor! The atmosphere, wine and service were top notch, and so was our waitress, Katie. I think Katie is the best Waitress we have ever had! We always hope to be seated in her section by the huge fireplace. We are already looking forward to going back again soon. We had our small wedding (20 immediate family members) at Common Man in Windham, and it was everything we could have asked for and more. We worked with the event coordinator Kristina Michaud for the planning and she was prompt, accommodating, direct, and added some personal touches that we really appreciated. Communication was great and allergies were accommodated without any stress. She took the time to get to know us a bit and understood how important the day was for us. Our waitress was (I believe) named Ashley and she was also amazing. The food was delicious and the space was beautifully decorated. When you live in NH, you become used to the idea that the minute you pull up to what appears to be somebody's house, when it is, in fact, a full fledged restaurant, you're about to eat some high quality food cooked from scratch. That's what The Common Man has to offer. A disclaimer up front: some items are better than others. The superb service and patience with a few mishaps made all the difference between granting these guys 4 stars versus 3. Because the food was....alright. Let's just say when we return, we plan on ordering very different things. For tonight, we started the evening with a rock crab cake appetizer. For the main course, the wife and I both got the prime rib, but at different temperatures. They also give you complimentary crackers with two kinds of cheese: a mild and barely flavorful white cheese spread....and an 'in-house' made cheese which looks like vomit and tastes more like salad dressing than cheese. Yeah. I didn't care for either. First of all, the crab cake was about what you'd expect in these parts. The thing to keep in mind here is that crab is best in Maryland. But in NH...eeehh...it's hit or miss. In this case, the rock crab cake wasn't even made with lump crab. So, that automatically kinda disassociates it with more traditional crab cake recipes. As for the crab itself, it was only mildly seasoned, at best. The fact that it needed remoulade sauce speaks volumes. This one was okay....but, 6 out of 10 for me. We've definitely had better. We ordered prime rib, but in a different way; with Bernaise lobster sauce. Thing is, I wish the waitress would have explained to us that they pour this lobster ON TOP OF the prime rib. Now, this wouldn't necessarily be bad in and of itself. It's just that I've never normally been a fan of placing seafood (especially the saucy kind) directly on top of a steak. I kinda feel like the seafood steals the show from the beef, ultimately masking its natural flavors. Not that it mattered anyway, because what parts of the prime rib I WAS able to taste sans sauce....weren't as flavorful or tender as I thought. But...check this out. This is gonna weird you guys out. You ready? Here goes! Wifey's prime rib was ordered medium, whereas mine was ordered mid-rare. Usually, the latter temp results in a more tender and juicy cut of beef. Nothing could be more the opposite as I bite into this thing, only to discover it had the consistency of a rubbery cut of steak from Walmart. Like, it wasn't completely inedible, else I'd have sent it back. It just wasn't quite what I was expecting. Meanwhile, after the wife had to send hers back twice for being undercooked, when it came back ostensibly mid-well, it somehow tasted juicier and more tender than my cut. Am I missing something here?? Did I just get punk'd?! At any rate, I had to take all of this into account when ranking the prime rib. Basing it off the best tasting cut (hers), I'd also give the prime rib a 6 out of 10. Main reason being....it could use more seasoning. I'm sorry, but when you have a basis for comparison, it tends to make one more harsh on ranking certain foods. Oh, the Bernaise lobster was good, too. Only I'm used to seeing this cooked in pieces placed into the tail shell and served like that. Like I said, I feel as if the lobster sauce stole the show from the prime rib, whatever amount of "show" that slightly under seasoning beef could even hope to produce. I must give accolades to the outstanding waitress we had that night. She had to deal with a lot of requests and send backs from us, but we were honestly not trying to be of inconvenience. Still, if the steak is under, the steak is under. It's going inside my body, might as well get the temperature right. But yeah, her patience evidently knows no bounds. So, we left her a nice tip. A must, since we WILL be back here very soon to try the lobster pie and filet. Maybe I'll even be able to update this review to a perfect score. For now though, The Common Man of Windham gets 4 thick cuts of prime rib drizzled in lobster sauce out of 5. read more

Great food from the appetizers (escargot, almost escargot, potato skins, pork belly with jalapeños cornbread) to the mains (PBJ Burger, Common Burger, steak tip salad, Mac and cheese burger, steak tips, Mac and cheese, and pulled pork Mac and cheese) and the biggest chicken nuggets I've ever seen for the toddler. To deserts, brownie sundae, cheesecake, crème brûlée, and carrot cake followed by complimentary house made white chocolate. Everything was well prepared and extremely tasty. The only downside was we were seated in a dark corner. Service from our waitress Katie was phenomenal. So nice to meet someone who truly enjoys their job. What a sweet person. We were there recently. It was not my choice and now I remember why. All of our meals were cold. Someone in my party ordered the crispy pork. It was dry and cold. The sides were also cold. I ordered the grilled steak tips, as you can see from the picture the serving was 3 small pieces of steak, the green beans and potato was cold. My whole meal was cold. LOVED this place!!! Driving to Vermont and we needed a place to stop for dinner. This place was close to the freeway so we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. Service: Sean was our waiter and he couldn't be any nicer and attentive. He was training someone at the time and was very supportive. Food: The bread was delicious. We had the uncommon wedge salad to start and it was delicious. The blue cheese is pasteurized, so if you're Preggo you're safe. We had the chicken pot pie, pulled pork Mac and cheese, and pot roast. We were not pleased with this experience. Our appetizer had a hair in it, and the waitress was good and addressed it. Her manager came to talk to us about it and was actually pretty rude. This will be a review of two dinner visits. Overall food was good. Lobster chowder was 5 of 5, excellent. Asian bowl with bacon wrapped shrimp, give it 1 of 5, way way too salty and the 3 shrimp were overcooked, ate one left the rest, ate about half of it, left it and consumed 4 glasses of water. The Greek bowl with steak, 5 of 5 was excellent. The chicken pot pie was as expected, chicken, vegetables with a crust, nothing heroic 2 of 5. Then came the sweet corn bacon ravioli with blackened chicken. Plating was a 0 of 5, was like a bowl of roasted red pepper soup hidden were the ravioli topped with the chicken. Looked bad. Different plate, lay out the ravioli, chicken and use 1/3 cup of the sauce, done. Give it 3 of 5 only because the ravioli weren't stuffed, blackened chicken 5 of 5 was excellent, juicy had great flavor. Overall I'd recommend the restaurant. read more

My family and I went to Common Man Windham because the location was an equal commute from our houses. The food was hit-or-miss: the kitchen should be put on notice. My family enjoyed a cocktail, the pot pie, the meatball appetizer and the desserts. I ordered crispy pork, but what I got was pork schnitzel with pieces of apple on it, served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The pork could have used apple sauce. I ate half of it, and took the rest in a take-away container; when I cleared the plate into the take-away container, I noticed some plastic remaining on the plate, which suggests that the green beans were probably microwaved. One of my family ordered a filet mignon medium rare--that's the way a filet SHOULD be cooked. What she got was so overcooked that the middle was grey. Our waiter, Brian, was apologetic and took it back to the kitchen. What should have been a 6 minute wait to get the steak properly took more like 15 minutes, but the manager himself brought it out. As an apology, the restaurant comped us a $7 dessert. Another of my family ordered the mac burger, also medium rare. The meat also came out well done, but there was so much stuff on the burger (i.e., mac-and-cheese) he ate it anyway. Don't ask how we want our meat cooked if you're not going to cook it that way. Service was ok, a little slow when the restaurant wasn't full (maybe that's why the meat was overcooked), but no real complaints. Ambience was nice, I like the rustic feel of the place and the warmth of the fireplace. However, when I go out, I usually go for the food so will not be eager to return. read more
