Sometimes I joke that this place is great to hide all your junk and crap in fancy boxes, only to forget that you had all your junk and crap hidden neatly to make you feel organized. Get rid of your junk. What I love about the Container Store are their hangers for my dress shirts, suits, and pants. Strong construction and competitive prices. I like their clear covers and suit bags to remind myself not to buy something I already own. The kitchen shelves are nice and very useful. I love their have clear plastic display boxes for collectibles and misc. items. It's time to show my things instead of placing in a box or on a shelf only to be forgotten. The store allows me to stuff the obscene amount of clothes/bags/bathing suits/etc. I own into my tiny closet/room and make it look tidy. I think it's magic. Great selection of products, customer service somewhat lacking. Was checking out with a modular drawer system that had many different components, said to the lady 'there are six of these'. She replies, 'I'm going to have to eyeball them anyway', as if I'm trying to steal some of the plastic drawers. Anyway, ironically, as she eyeballs them and puts them through the till, she 'eyeballs' one more than is actually there, charges for seven and we end up having to get it taken off the system. I walked around this behemoth of a store for a good half an hour wondering where to start. I feel like I try to spring clean every day and yet I'm one of the most disorganized people I know. Then a nice sales guy told me to drop my cart off, scan everything I wanted in the store with a little scanner, and have all of the containers delivered same-day for $25 (in Manhattan). I had an epiphany today. Was it expensive? Sort of - there is a nice sale going on right now but there are always different price points in similar items so you can go cheap. Also the staff know their stuff. Just ask if you feel lost. Now go pack and put away your winter clothes... oops, yeah it's still 40 degrees out. Maybe not. read more

Low score only because of the poor service there....The store is big and good variety of products. However the staffs there were disappointing. My credit cards ran into problems with their machines (which is not uncommon) and the woman who checked me out (black hair. Think she looked Latino) was so rude. She moved to try another machine and called me out "come!". I want to emphasize that all cards I tried there was fine just hour before and indeed I ended up paid with one of my card that was also rejected by their machines at the beginning. Throughout the process, she was impatient and rude attitude. I think, at most, we could just move on without getting any item. I won't own your store anyway. Why being so rude for issue that was no one's fault. The 2 stars is for the convenience and variety of products of the store. read more

I visited this location last week for a store-pickup. Kaylie greeted me upon arrival and was great, she then asked a male worker to bring my packages, which turned out to be 8 huge boxes (50 boxes of shoe storage). This guy seemed miserable, never greeted me, horrible attitude, I even caught him shaking his head in annoyance as we tried to figure out how to get the boxes to the car. Not the customer service you expect after spending so much at a store. I won't be back. read more

I think this might be one of those places where females can spend an obscene amount of time and money at and males will not understand why. I came in to get some drawer cubbie organizers for my socks and undies...and left with 3 canvas baskets, a wicker basket, 3 cubbie organizers and leaf shaped wall hooks. I also spent probably a good hour there (and walked the entire store like 3 times). Then the moment I got home I went into crazy organizing and home improvement mode. The store is a heaven for neat freaks and organizing fanatics. I secretly can't wait to settle down into a permanent home...just so I can come back and get more stuff! They're also having a special going on right now, if you spend $100, you'll get a $15 gift card to use in December. However, buying gift cards are excluded from the original $100 you have to spend. My husband's description of The Container Store: "It's like IKEA without the furniture!" - he was super excited once he saw that I wasn't taking him to a store that only sold boxes. The kitchen and closet sections are amazing. The staff is friendly and available and the prices are pretty competitive. They didn't have exactly what we needed on this particular visit, but after years of looking at their things online, I was so happy to find that their physical stores are just as great as hoped. What CAN'T you find here?! Probably nothing. They have any combination and permutation of storage and organizing needs you may or may not have. Even things you didn't know you needed - just come here, and you'll realize you definitely needed it. I bought an Elfa drawer system for my hall closet to organize my laundry detergents, paper towels/TP, medication and vitamins, and some mini greeting cards and miscellaney. I wasn't sure what would work, but the rep helped me figure it out. I bought the Elfa system in the Paramus location. But Container Stores are pretty consistent across different locations. The Elfa worked perfectly. It can be a bit cumbersome to put it together. But once it's done, it looks nice and it sturdy. read more

This is not a store where you need to shop very often; but they have a deep selection of many items which make it a destination stop in those specific cases. I was having problems storing liquids in our frig. I wanted to keep vermouth cold but the 750 ml bottles were too big to fit. I was able to find some 500 ml hermetic style bottles from Italy - which came with a a stopper and metal closure. Works well for me. Their selection of restaurant style kitchen shelving caught me eye. Not that easy to find in my experience. read more

The NAME says it all. So obsessed with this store. If I could quit my day job and work here just to tell people how to stay organized or to get ideas from others, I would. I've asked employees and they all love working there for that very reason. They provide plastic containers for EVERY need. Whenever I feel in the mood to organize, I head over. (jewelry, school supplies, shelves, closets, etc.) I've heard positive things about the Elfa closets from friends and even strangers, but I hear Elfa does not uninstall and you install the closets with the intention of staying there for the long haul. They recently started a wedding registry which I can totally imagine myself doing. I also noticed they partnered with Real Simple magazine and Japanese companies on products. Genius! I wish they had more incentives for people to come in (i.e. coupons or discounts like Bed Bath & Beyond), but unfortunately, they do not. The Container Store is dangerous. Dangerously addicting and damaging to the wallet. I'll be going back next week. Location is great because right after I stopped by here, I went across the street to Bed Bath & Beyond. Love The Container Store for all my organizational needs! I love their large plastic bins to store bed linens and out of season clothing, and the plastic shoe bin drawers that are stackable. Fun colorful hangers, but they need those little loops to hang straps on. Bought 2 a couple of their colorful Bisley filing cabinets. They were reasonably priced, but aren't as sturdy as a real Steelcase cabinet. Great kitchen supply selection. Pretty good sales regularly. read more

Not everything is tip-top quality, but I love the Container Store because their philosophy is that there is a solution to any and every organizing problem. I find that I really have to resist the temptation to buy everything, though, because (a) the money adds up, and (b) I'd run the risk of turning my apartment into a black hole of orderliness. When it comes to storage and space arrangement, there is always a better way--so I've learned that the best thing to do is just chuck it all. This store is the greatest! We moved from a 1200 square foot queens apartment to at 650 square foot apartment in Chelsea and it was very tight! Thanks to the container store we were able to keep most of our stuff. They had a ton of options to store a lot of things in a very small space. The price is right and the customer service is great. Overwhelming supply of everything I must have to get organized! Everywhere I turned there was a helpful staffer to answer questions. Relatively fast check out, and they provide wonderful big bags and handle holders to take your goodies home. I couldn't believe the mass quantities of good stuff folks were shlepping out the door! I've always seen this place from the street and saw it as a store that sells boxes.period. I was right but a little bit off. The things here are those little things we don't notice we need but always remind ourselves to get.like laundry baskets (made of bamboo), or wall mountable coat racks, bamboo dish drainers, and my favorite is the kitchen elfa. The prices reflect the quality of what you're purchasing and I assure you that you won't be disappointed. I used to make fun of my parents for organizing everything. And my fiancee. Now I am in the legions of people that needs everything organized. So on a slow week at work (between Christmas and New Years) I took it upon myself to get the office pantry/storage cleaned up. Armed with an expense account I headed down the The Container Store to do some damage. It was not as pricey as I thought, but it was deceivingly expensive as I watched things ring up at the register. Oh well. All in the name of organization! The staff seems nice, I did not really ask for help, bu they were friendly at the check-out. The staff here is friendly, greet you at the door as soon as you enter, and go out of their way to help you. It's a great place to find that container you need to hold whatever. I came in to find some empty plastic bottles to hold lotion and the super helpful clerk even asked his supervisor to get the answer to my question when he couldn't answer it. That is wow service that I expect from a five star hotel. I was impressed and would definitely shop here again even though they didn't have the containers I wanted. Container Store does have so much stuff to look at, items big and small, that too long in this place gives me a headache...visual overload.(Hence only 4 stars instead of 5) But when you are in the store, you can have a fun time and find stuff to help you organize. Great store! If you are looking for storage/organization accessories, this is the place! Need containers for your kitchen? They have it. Any size you need. Need to store all that pasta you got at Costco? You can find cool jars here to store them , that way they look more attractive. Need hooks or hangers for your closet? Yep. They have those too... They also give you the screw or nail you need to install them. That way your room won't look like your closet threw up. Mine dosen't anymore. Oh and they also have great storage containers and bags for all your shoes! I bought hooks for my bathroom, great for bathrooms with limited space. I've also gotten lunch bowls for my son here. I went in to buy a doorstop today, one I wasn't sure would fit under my door. I asked the cashier if I could return it, even if I opened the package and tested it out. His response? "Try it! And then try it again! You can still return it! And a receipt would be helpful to have, but even if you lose it you can still return it!" Well, ok then! The doorstop actually fit perfectly, but I'm tempted to buy something extraneous just to test out this seemingly magical and very generous return policy. read more

We were very excited for the new custom closet installation, to be ultimately extremely disappointed in how poorly the process went. So much of the coordinating responsibility fell onto us, the client, and after spending over $12,000 on two small custom closets, we expected superb customer service. When spending this kind of money again on a custom closet, we won't hesitate to use a private contractor or California Closets, as both qualities have been tried and tested with many projects before. This project dealt within a time constraint for our client's move in date, which ultimately led to our choice in using The Container Store. With a very rocky scheduled delivery, $750 EXTRA spent on hired help, and an installation that left a huge stain on the brand new carpet, we are confident in saying that we are unimpressed and will not use The Container Store's custom closets again for other projects. read more

Certainly many choices and the staff is always very nice and helpful-BUT be aware that the ONLINE prices are usually LOWER than the in store prices, even if you are a POP member. On more than one occasion my items in store scanned higher- even the 'sales' items. If you catch it they may adjust it at the register as a favor...Best to order online and then pickup in store. read more

It's a Type A person's playhouse. The store manages to stay clean and organized despite the range of items there. The products are generally good quality here - often much better than Ikea, say. This is especially the case for the archival storage boxes. The big problem, as many have said, is that their prices are really high, and they seem to be getting a lot higher lately. Now I only purchase items on sale, and even then it doesn't always feel like a great deal. I do like that when you purchase online, there's an option to have the items delivered to your home from the local store. This saves a bit on the shipping of bigger items, and allows you to specify delivery date and time. This is great for NYC where most people don't have cars (where would I even park to load stuff at the 6th ave store?). Even with the five hour delivery window, however, they arrived with my delivery much later than expected. There are worse things that could happen in life, I know. But with the too high prices and the seeming convenience of home delivery turning into a liability, I'll take my future organization business elsewhere. read more

I have very mixed feelings on shopping at the Container Store. I like their unique selection of organization products. But I do feel like I am sometimes paying top dollar for some cheap plastic stuff. I have never really tried finding the same products online, so I don't have a price comparison. I never looked online as it was so convenient just to go down to the store and pick them. But the last couple times I have been in there, the line has been ridiculous. 4 Registers open and 70+ people in line. Worse than Ikea. Not sure what the Container Store was thinking, as it seemed to have plenty of staff on the floor. At one point I saw 5 employees all together putting away 1 item....maybe it was training? The last few times have been like this, so it might just be bad management, or a disregard for the customer. Maybe, I will skip the store and try them online only. For the store at this location, I would suggest first walking across the street to Bed, Bath and Beyond with your organization list to see if you can find what you need for a lower cost. Then, if you cannot find it, go back to The Container Store for your item. They definitely have lots of storage and organization items, but for someone who is watching what they spend, I have often found that I can find something similar for a lower price at BB&B. Also, sometimes I have found that the employees at this store location, particularly in the Elfa section, are - how to say - slightly standoffish? Just, I don't know...sort of on the look-out for a particular type of customer (which I do not feel that I am in that category). This store location does a good job with getting people through the line fast - there's not really ever a ridiculous wait, at all. And, when they have markdown sales (not Elfa), you can really get some good deals. They also will deliver, if you buy something large. For me it was about $30 to an outer borough, for a $99 item. read more

Fraudulent practices. Buyer beware! Better off at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Ordered an item for shipping and they charged my credit card immediately. 2 weeks have past and my order has remained at the unfulfilled status though I have been charged. Several emails to customer service have been ignore. On hold for 41 minutes for their customer service phone line then disconnected. Triedthe 800# again the next day and it was a constant busy signal. Tried again the following day and they had a message that said due to the high volume of calls please call back. Again common business sense would be respond to emails and avoid this high volume of calls by actually having customer service hence the name. Better yet stop taking orders you can't fulfill. read more

VERY RUDE AND OVER PRICED FOR ITEMS THAT DONT WORK. I went this morning to buy a shoe rack amongst other items and spent a good amount of money here. I came back later with a friend because I needed more appliances anyways and my dad notified me that the shoe rack was made improperly and won't piece together. I asked the employee a simple question very kindly about it only to be get back a VERY RUDE reply. The shoe rack was pretty heavy and I'm a small girl who lives a mile away. The employee was a short female with her hair tied and a very ugly personality. I suggest going to the bed bath and beyond across the street instead, their stuff will at least work and is a lot cheaper read more
