I went with my step daughter and family to this store. Had bad customer service previously but decided to give it another try. Found a mirror for her. 75% off. Took 2 clerks about 15 minutes to figure out how to ring it up. But finally they got it. Very sad the clerks have not been trained on how to use the register. Get home. Open it. Broken. Parts missing. The complete lack of integrity of this company knowingly to charge $100 for a broken product that is complete trash is the epitome of sleaze and consumer fraud. No big surprise with this store. So she goes to return it. With a receipt. She is black. They wouldn't take it. I'm white, walk in with my son to help. Suddenly, after 45 minutes of stalling they take it back. Where to start ? My first initial experience here was great! All of the staff were very friendly. They literally went above and beyond to help me which I really appreciated. However this last visit was the exact opposite. Now the reason for the review. When I came in Luci was helping another customer and being really sweet to her. However as soon as I came to the counter she gave me a hard time. I told her I needed to return 4 of the item (one of the items broke) and the rest were still in there packing. I asked her a question about the coupon they'd offered me in my purchase which I didn't receive the last time I came. She immediately became very hostile. I was simply asking a question. I told her there was no need for the hostility. She then started to talk to me as if I was a child and asked me if I wanted to speak to a manager. Now I do! She then began to explain everything to him (with a much nicer tone). He said it would be fine and to give me the discount they offered in the beginning. When I expressed my concerns to him he kind of brushed it off and talked about the coupon which wasn't the issue it was her tone. Poor customer service. I would give 0 stars if I can. I rarely do reviews like this. When I do, its either the best or the worst places I've been to help fellow shoppers. Needed help but it took me about 8 minutes to flag down someone. I went through 3 staff members until I got what I needed. Kudos to Liv, the only person who was able to get everything that I needed. Went to the counter staff member, said I needed help just to ask if I can use my activated credit account even without a physical card and dismissed me; went to another staff member to ask the same thing but before I even asked the question, I was asked if I had an appointment, when she was entertaining other people's queries even without an appointment. She was only entertaining white people. Maybe she was the custom closet rep but she could've helped other customers while not busy or direct them to the right person. This is my 12yo favorite store and we try to come here when she is on some kind of break from school. If you are a person that needs EVERYTHING matching and organized then this the store for you. If you need ALL of your storage boxes in the same color and all stacked up in a nice, nest, straight line then again, this is your mothership calling you home. If you need your closet, your kids closet and any other closet in your home orgainized to a "T", then you need to be here....are you getting the idea? This will be long, and I wish I could make it as long as the time wasted at the 'The Container Store,' due to elitist employees, error, ennui, incivility, and absolutely no desire for customer input. Went with a friend who was going in to purchase her closet systems after the initial home visit for measurements. She had a confirmed appointment to meet and consult regarding completion of the closet designs. The rep, who did not call or cancel was not there, but the random rep at the desk, who was as snotty as a cold virus, and not accommodating in the least, was adamant that the appointment didn't exist. She even treated us to a scolding, as if we'd 'made up' an appointment. I actually heard her sigh, and if she'd rolled her eyes it could not have shocked me more. Evidently the computer lost a confirmed appointment? We waited, STANDING for at least 45 minutes as the rep fumbled to locate the measurements -- please note, she was helping all other walk-up customers first. She did not refer these customers to other reps, even though multiples were standing around at leisure, chatting. Of note, none of the other snobbish, uptight, replicated-appearing older women with whom we interacted at the Walnut Creek store were friendly, or helpful, one even unceremoniously told me to move out of the way, no "Pardon me, I have to get in there." Nothing. The store was OK, difficult to find a place to park tho. I would give it 3 stars, but not with one of the Witches of Eastwick waiting on us, and really, as their plastic and fiberboard inventory is almost all the same stuff Target has, customer service should be their edge. AND -- BS to giving more stars: Management, check yourselves, because in the end anyone can purchase a closet kit, and have a hubby or handyperson install it for much, much less. Had my friend known she had to 'do-it-herself' in picking out all the components she would have done just that, and not spent thousands, because oh yes, that's right, the rep had US go look at the closet designs all by ourselves. Which we did, we picked everything, including the accessories, then figured out the sizes and fit. So, in the end, other than poor service, wasting 2 hours of our time, and treating us to an ill-mannered debate about simple modifications, all the rep did, was look on her computer to confirm the components fit, and take the money. Hello? My advice to customers looking for closet systems is this, spare yourself the snotty privileged reps, in Walnut Creek. Measure your closet, go to Target and purchase their basic systems with their cool accessories. You can do it yourself -- it's easy, and for much less than thousands/per closet. Lastly, to the dear ladies of a certain age at the 'The Container Store' Walnut Creek: Customer service has an intrinsic meaning, and it is expected as part of your job. Now if I need something I can easily find it because it's not hard to find. The prices are a little high but they have to make a profit. So it's not bad. I recommend the Container Store. read more

If you're looking for holders, drawers, dividers, boxes, bins, jars, tubs or caddies, as well as a shelf to eventually put all if that on, your shopping experience will be both lengthy and productive. Their email club offers regular discounts, which helps to knock a few bucks off items that are good quality but are a bit more expensive. It is also a good place for packing and shipping boxes, if you buy and sell on eBay as I do. Though I don't mind spending on Elfa and Metro shelves. But that was years ago and I've gotten over the annoyance (and need) to explain the difference to people. This store is a mecca for people who read Real Simple and take photos of their shoes to store in rows and rows of plastic boxes. I mean, why bother with Walmart or Ikea for your organizational needs ... when there is the Container Store!! But good merchandising and slightly higher prices makes this store appealing to people with a specific project in mind - especially when project is visible to others. Plastic bins / back to school - you'll find cheaper prices at Ikea, Target or Walmart. But if you're looking for canvas boxes, hapao or other woven baskets, acrylic and slightly more unique products - this is a great place to check out. read more

If you need to consolidate your belongings or just want to simply appear organized then this place is it. If you need cute office supplies, cute drawers, kitchen knick knacks, tupperwares for all your needs (salads, soups, cereal, sandwiches, etc.), and creative arts and crafts idea then the Container Store is a winner! Prices are moderate to pricey depending on your needs. There is a cool coat rack that doesn't even look like a coat rack! The handles can be retracted in making it look like a modern lamp... If I were to be planning a romantic Chinese-style meal then I'd come here because they sell cute Chinese to-go type of boxes in all shapes and sizes so I can use those to decorate my table w/ or maybe serve my Chinese homemade food in it. Shoutout to Keri who helped me design a custom closet that I love! I was about to order the standard 3-foot closet online, but decided to go in for a closet consult to see if they could help me find something even better for my space. Keri was patient and walked me through the system and helped me eliminate a couple things that weren't actually useful to me. For example, the 3-foot standard closet comes with a special shoe rack for high heels, but I only wear flats to the shoe drawers were more suited to my lifestyle. In the end, I saved money by getting a custom closet. I installed the closet myself, which was a little challenging but YouTube videos helped. I am very pleased with my closet and the experience I had with Keri. Also, the curbside pickup process was a breeze. Thank you, Container Store! read more

I love this store. I stopped by here to pick up items for my trip in June and when they didn't have the travel clock I needed they pointed me down the street in the right direction. (AAA store by the way) I adore their cheap, easy to use stacking shoe boxes and perfect sized holders (I use them for pins). But they also have really nice gift wrapping boxes and bows. Okay well my daughter used to work here so I guess the fact I have container store stuff in every room doesn't make me bias or anything:-). But I do love the elfa we have in our closets and the shelving she left behind in her room when she moved out! So very handy for my new office! And for storage its the first place I go. And then theres winter wonderland....wrapping paper, ribbon, and pretty holiday boxes! And the cool stocking stuffers. Plus there are still familiar faces when I go in even though its been a couple years since my daughter has worked there. Staff sticks around which must say something about the place, my daughter loved working there. Its always the first place I recommend when someone's looking for storage or even that hard to find gift. One time I started with a green plastic basket with a handle, and started filling it with green items. Key chain, smaller green containers, green cord organizer, green paper clips, etc...every item was green. I put in an order a week before it said to pick it up, I drive 45 mins to come pick it up at the time that the order said it would be ready and when I get here I get a phone call from the lady working saying they didn't receive my order from the truck the day before and are just letting me know now when I'm here at the time they said to pick it up. Overall would never shop at the container store due to this being the second time my order has been delayed in the past month. The outside structure of the store looked grandiose, leading you to think that the building houses at least two floors -- but surprisingly the entire store sits on one main floor. I like this store because it wards off chances of becoming a disheveled hoarder for me. Keeping things organized had always been a New Year's resolution, so the Container Store really aids in my efforts. The products do seem overpriced (I've seen an identical item at Daiso for $1.50) but currently there's a spring organization sale that I've been able to take advantage of. There's an option to purchase your items online and pick them up in a store if you choose not to spend money on shipping. It doesn't take too long. All they have to do is retrieve your shopping back and sign their handheld (like UPS delivery has) and you're on your way... read more

I am a crazy-organizing type of person, and I love this place! Everything looks so clean and appealing. However, I'm usually on a budget because I get a thrill out of getting a deal, and some things here can be quite pricey. The selection of whatever you need is really good, and employees are very welcoming and kind. My son needed to use the restroom, and their facilities are very clean and I would not hesitate to take him to use it again. They even had a stool (to his delight) for him to use for hand washing. read more

Love the products, but the management at this store today is just kind of dumb. Sign in one door says it's closed, "use other door" but doesn't tell you where the other door is. Line to the one register open near the open door is MILES long, and shoppers are advised that another register, way at the back, that doesn't take credit cards, is open. Do NOT recommend shopping here and especially want to warn people about using POP credits (their reward program). I made a purchase using a POP credit and unfortunately needed to return it. Instead of giving me store credit for the cost of the item, they refunded me about 1/4 the price of the item. Despite their "discounts" and "receipt-free returns" program, there is lots of deception going on here. Rest assured they are making plenty of money selling the data from their "rewards" program, which offers minimal value to their (former) customers. read more

I love the elfa sale! Once a year their closet designs go on sale, luckily I timed it right with my decision to re-do my closets. While I probably wouldn't fork over the money for anything else here, their deals on their closets cannot be beat. The customer service here is great, everyone here is really nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. Some of the the other customers here can be a bit snooty and demanding (but hey its Walnut Creek, I guess it comes with the territory!). With the 30% discount on the closets, for three tiny closets build circa 1948, our total came to around $700, minus installation (as I have my lovely boyfriend for that!). The best part? Everything was ready in about an hour, custom fit for each one, totally sweet! read more

One of the worst customer service I've ever experienced walking today to buy closets system and one designer to help you with the process of ordering it and she was busy so she called for help and Amy showed up and after I explain to her what I wanted her response was we only have one designer so you gonna have to wait or I can reschedule your time for you to come by and get it done and my question to her was why can't you to help me with it and she says I am too busy running the store.. Found out Amy is the general manager and apparently she doesn't value sales or customer service and she is the one in charge good luck with that... This is most definitely the best place to be at if you are OCD and have an appreciation for efficiency and organization. Now, I do have an appreciation for such, however I lack the passion to organize every aspect of my life. Somehow my organization manifests in pockets of messes in my brain that I can somehow compartmentalize. If I can only do that to my room... Still this place is great with its many ideas and products that can organize and contain the things you have in your life. Everything from photo boxes, jewelry boxes, shelves, closets, random containers that pinterest might have inspired you to use for some miscellaneous thing... Definitely one of those places that can distract you from your original intention of being there... now why was I there in the first place? Oh yes, my niece wanted to show me the clear boxes she used for her shoes, that way you pile them up against the closet and can see which shoe you want since they're clear. She helped us narrow down our specs and pick out diff accessory finishes. Took care of everything in 15-20 minutes including delivery and installation. Delivery/install commit dates were only a week out. Great experience and recommend this location for custom closet help. read more

An irritating comedy of errors that I'll consider amusing when installation is complete. Carol P in design services was the exception. She was terrific. Suffice it to say that trying to change pickup to delivery was a trial over the phone as the staff (2x) saw pickup on their computers and never heard the words change to delivery, tho I even included "car totalled, cannot drive" for emphasis to the point. Asked price of delivery twice but the next staff person couldn't listen well enough until after I gave all my card info. (The price is ok, just wanted to know it BEFORE.) Was firmly told to make request for delivery on line after downloading an app only to discover in subsequent call that's not so. Of course, the timing was wretched because they were out of standard parts for two weeks. Considered cancelling but decided it had to improve. Right? Nope. Delivery service is independent contractor whose constant messages to my phone said he was 1. coming early, I responded ok, on site already. 2. was outside my door but the delivery wouldn't happen for 30 minutes, etc. (multiple messages on this one, over and over), 3. sometimes just my name, no message... and more. Total so far? 10+ messages? All a constant botheration until I realized he was still in Walnut Creek and thought he was messaging the store, not me. Golly. The constant interruptions interrupted work too much. Way too much. I stopped trusting anything from this company. Upon delivery service's arrival we looked over the list of goods only to find that many items were cut to the wrong measurements despite exact instructions to the half inch on the bill of lading (I checked) but turns out that's not for the customer, no, that's for the installer. Items are cut at the store and then cut again during installation. (Thanks for letting the customer know.) A "free" item was not included (that's for the installer to bring) and one item was missing (see "free"). Excuses included wrong information given during earlier calls because two clerks have the same first name and a similar sounding last initial (uh, give them nicknames for when in the store) were either on the line or not working that day depending on who you spoke to at the time, the delivery service is new to them (uh, so you are just figuring that? Be proactive!) and put a notation on the lading bill GIVEN to ME that says "to be supplied by installer", and "items will be cut to size for custom installation perfection". Last, the TWO phone messages TELLING me to tip the driver AFTER he'd left, AFTER crappy service. Some nerve telling me to tip, not even asking. At this point they should have given me a discount! Might have settled my ire enough that I'd not cost them business through this review, eh? I sure hope that installing will be better than this. Can hardly wait to see what that'll be like. This chain store is ideal for the well heeled, anal retentive, control freak! Organization junkies would be like kids in a candy store here! Plastic containers of all shapes and sizes, color coded boxes and storage bins, closet organizers of all configurations, a pantry lovers dream! I am basically lazy and a bit of a slob (or should I say "convenience motivated"?). But somehow, I have spurts of organizational adrenalin, where I like to make order out of chaos in short spurts. I like functional and purposeful stuff, but I am too lazy to adhere to it consistently, because I am easy-going and not a control freak, and ultimately a procrastinator. So with that combination, I need all the help I can get. Even if it is highly overpriced plastic containers from the Container Store. If you want to store or organize something, anything, in your kitchen, office, bedroom, house, bathroom, just about anywhere, you can find it here. This is where people on that Style TV show "Clean House" should have gone before piling crap all over for the Clean House crew to come in and organize. They always make the closets better on that show, but they would have run out of their yard sale money if they got all the stuff here. Or those people on Animal Planet or Discovery, who are being buried alive by their own hoarding, might consider a dumpster and coming here to get out of their mess, so they can find things, like the kitchen sink. Me, I came here at least twice recently. Once was to find a plastic multi-compartment container to hold a variety supplies, but is small enough to fit into a small bag. Then there was the small multi-compartment bag to hold it. And little plastic containers that could hold important vials of liquids. Found it all here! Then I wanted to get in-between shelves for the kitchen cupboard, so i could organize and find all those little dishes you use in Japanese or Korean foods without having to empty the entire cupboard looking for them. Many sizes, styles, shapes to choose from. Found it all here! You know if they have a plastic container specifically designed to hold one stick of butter (but isn't a butter dish), they probably have what your looking for. And a lot of stuff you weren't looking for, but ended up buying anyway. I love this store, but not the prices. Getting organized is expensive! Uh, wait a minute, where did I put my keys? read more
