This chain store is ideal for the well heeled, anal retentive, control freak! Organization junkies would be like kids in a candy store here! Plastic containers of all shapes and sizes, color coded boxes and storage bins, closet organizers of all configurations, a pantry lovers dream! I am basically lazy and a bit of a slob (or should I say "convenience motivated"?). But somehow, I have spurts of organizational adrenalin, where I like to make order out of chaos in short spurts. I like functional and purposeful stuff, but I am too lazy to adhere to it consistently, because I am easy-going and not a control freak, and ultimately a procrastinator. So with that combination, I need all the help I can get. Even if it is highly overpriced plastic containers from the Container Store. If you want to store or organize something, anything, in your kitchen, office, bedroom, house, bathroom, just about anywhere, you can find it here. This is where people on that Style TV show "Clean House" should have gone before piling crap all over for the Clean House crew to come in and organize. They always make the closets better on that show, but they would have run out of their yard sale money if they got all the stuff here. Or those people on Animal Planet or Discovery, who are being buried alive by their own hoarding, might consider a dumpster and coming here to get out of their mess, so they can find things, like the kitchen sink. Me, I came here at least twice recently. Once was to find a plastic multi-compartment container to hold a variety supplies, but is small enough to fit into a small bag. Then there was the small multi-compartment bag to hold it. And little plastic containers that could hold important vials of liquids. Found it all here! Then I wanted to get in-between shelves for the kitchen cupboard, so i could organize and find all those little dishes you use in Japanese or Korean foods without having to empty the entire cupboard looking for them. Many sizes, styles, shapes to choose from. Found it all here! You know if they have a plastic container specifically designed to hold one stick of butter (but isn't a butter dish), they probably have what your looking for. This is one of those places to go to for organizational ideas. I love it. It is floor to ceiling ORGANIZATION. With all of the paperwork that comes to me ... I need the right things to help stay organized. This place has everythinhg to help. They have so many ideas that make sense. The items they have are useful and generally afordable. I would probably give them 5 stars for being the best at what they do ,,. but the last several times I came in there was a thing or two that could have been better. They have been out of stock with an item I needed and one time something seemed like it was on sale, but in fact, it was not.. The sign was misleading. However ... I am still a big fan of the Container store in Walnut Creek. At least they help you carry things to the car. That would be impossible in San Francisco. read more

If you're in need of a container then head to the container store (who'd a thunk it?) Any kind of container that you can think of you will be able to find in the container store. It's a great place to go to if you're moving into a new place or going off to college. All sorts of little devices to help organize your place either on your wall, or with little compartments or any which way. If you have lots of stuff then come here and find a place where you can put it all away. The staff here isn't terribly helpful or friendly. When I couldn't find something I was looking for there was no one in the store who I could find to help me. Certain things are reasonably priced while others are a bit overpriced. Overall it's a good place to go if you know what you want in your new place or to help you condense what you already have. read more

I had never been to The Container Store up until last year after Black Friday. Never. "What do I need with a store full of containers," I asked myself? I had no idea what I had been missing, in terms of organization! I'm telling you, I've never been so organized than after having shopped at this store! My visit was precipitated due to necessity. I had been stuck at home for a while, and needed to occupy myself -- and found that I had a lot of organizing that needed to be done that I had missed when I had been a busy bee. I saw that my only option was to go to The Container Store. Nothing that I could order online seemed to have the same quality items for a reasonable price, so I had a friend drive me down to the Downtown Walnut Creek store. When I walked in, I was amazed at the variety of containers that were contained in that big box store! I'm telling you, I easily spent several hours in there, going over all of the options available to me. Hey, it had been a while since I had been out of the house, remember? : p After finally selecting my containers for the bedroom and bathroom, I learned that I could sign up to be a Pop Star and receive e-mailed coupons toward future purchases, simply by entering my e-mail at the register. That's what brought me back to The Container Store one year later; to cash in a coupon that they had sent me. I'm now planning to go back for my third visit to spend the bonus cash that I received from my second purchase. Customer service is excellent. The only gripe I have is about the lack of signage for the lines at the front register. They have the option to form two queues for each of the two sets of registers on either side, but they assume that everyone knows to stand in one line to the left. *Tip: Shop on a weekday evening, as it's not at all crowded. Let me tell you, I LOVE the container store but I'd rather travel all the way to the one in San Francisco just so I can actually get real customer service. I walked into the store this morning with my auntie and her two children. She had to purchase another attachment for her closet so I chose to wander around the store with the children to look for some drawer organisers and a little swivel container for hair ties, Bobby pins, etc. I searched for a good 15 minutes trying to locate the swivel container I was searching for but had trouble. I spent another 5 minutes trying to locate someone who worked there. As soon as I approached her I tried asking her for help to locate the item but her response? "I'm busy right now." With no intention of finding someone else who would be able to help me. I then spent another 5 minutes locating another person who works there, I approached her seeking help. Same thing happened. "I'm busy." I wasn't able to catch the other persons name. But, Charlotta was one of the rudest workers I've ever met. Walnut creek container store will now be remembered as the one with the rude workers and as my 4 year old cousin would say, "the mean lady." I absolutely adore The Container Store... so many goodies inside that I just had no idea that I needed! Don't miss it: their "Contain Yourself" reusable shopping bags, available in two sizes and a great value. Didn't give this place 5 Stars since their layout was a bit wonky - perhaps I'm spoiled after shopping exclusively at the San Francisco location for years. I just found it a bit confusing and not easy to navigate through the various departments to find things I needed. And the staff I encountered were not nearly as friendly or as good at giving great customer service as the SF store - it was acceptable but I found a couple of folks who seemed too busy to ask, "can i help you with anything?", and a couple of folks that couldn't crack a smile. An organizational freak's haven. elfa modular closet organizer systems take up a good 40% of the store - I'm just jealous because I don't need one, but I wished that I did. You can organize ANYTHING with the stuff they sell here, maybe even your mind! I can spend hours in here and always find at least one or two gadgets or organizational tools to walk out with. I bought a USB powered keyboard cleaner/vacuum on my last visit. . . Oh and they have some of THE CUTEST holiday wrapping paper and accessories (boxes, tape dispensers, tags, ribbon...) Nobody said getting organized was cheap. Walking into the Container Store is like walking into your dream closet and home. Metal trash cans, spice racks, sweater boxes, etc. The possibilities are endless. What I love most about the Container Store in Walnut Creek is that it isn't crowded like the one in the City, it's spick and span clean, and most of all it is dog friendly. For once Harley D was not forced to paw at the windows from the outside. He was welcomed on a red carpet as if he were the customer to kiss @ss to. The sales associates even busted out the doggy treats for Harley which he glady showed off his tricks for. If you have a dog and bring your dog everywhere, the Container Store does not discriminate. If you want to get organized or just need basic packing supplies (boxes, bubble wrap, styrofoam peanuts), the Container Store is the place for you. If you wanna get all Martha Stewart with wrapping (stickers, ribbon, super cute wrapping paper), then this store is for you. If you're hardcore OCD and want to have all of your shoes in clear plastic shoeboxes or if you get off on the thought of all of your spices lined up perfectly in a dedicated spice rack, then the Container Store will probably stimulate your organizational porn wet dreams and have you feeling good vibrations all day long. We just bought a Lego organizational system which turned my wife on immensely. My 4 year old, on the other end, only got mildly enthused about the colored plastic bins but got promptly pissed off when he realized those bins were empty and it was his job to take his Legos and put them in aforementioned bins. Mom always said...."An organized home is a happy home" but what she never told me is how expensive it can be to get organized.... The Container store is one of those places where I fill my cart up with tons of stuff, and then before I check out I look down and do a mental add up of how much all this is going to cost me....and then I take like 50% of back to the shelf. "Why is a tiny wire basket that screws into my cabinet door $15?" Sometimes I think lots of stuff in here is crazy overpriced for the quality and for what you are getting, but then again you can't find most of it at any other store so we are held hostage by their insane prices. I wish some other company would emerge with similar goodies and cause a price war. I mean, $39.50 for a newspaper basket? Hmm....no thanks. That being said, I still shop here regularly. What do you do in Walnut Creek when you have extra time? You walk into stores and check them out, which is how I ended up in the Container Store. It is quite large and has a good selection. As I wandered around I kept thinking This is nice and all, but expensive..." The thing is, it's not even top quality merchandise, it's regular old crates, bins, and kitchen stuff. I'm sorry, but I really don't understand why people come here. I mean I think being organized is a greeeat and a wonderful thing, but why are people paying like 50 bucks for a box? I can get a box, (wood, plastic, paper, metal..), u pick, and i'll paint it for you and just charge you say...10. Really, it's no problem. I still make a profit and you save like 80%. This place pretty much has EVERYTHING to hold EVERYTHING!! Upside: I went to find gift boxes and found so much more, as well as I will keep it mind for the future. Really helpful! I used to love the container store but I have never encountered such incredibly poor customer service. I had ordered a couple of wire shelving units online in March and was told I would receive the units in 10-15 business days. About 20 business days later, I called to get a status check and was assured it would ship by the end of that week. The week after, I called them again and they said it still had not shipped, so I asked to cancel my order but then was told that I could not cancel and would have to wait for the shelves to be shipped to my house and then I would have to physically bring them into the store to return. Mind you, the shelves had not yet even shipped. Two months after my initial order, I finally received these shelves. However, the boxes they came in were in really bad condition- they were mangled and ripped and entire corners were off. I have no idea how I am supposed to return these really heavy metal shelves in the poor condition they reached me at to the physical store location in ripped up boxes. This all could have been avoided if they had cancelled the order over a month ago before the shelves even shipped... super disappointed and frustrated!! read more

BUYER BEWARE: The Container Store has a very non-customer friendly return policy. The associates at this store are argumentative and not helpful. I brought in items that I was trying to return. The items were in pristine condition, unopened never used, etc. I also brought my Credit Card, and photo ID. They refused to refund my purchase and would only offer a merchandise credit. When I called there 800 number I was told two different things, by two different representatives. The first one named Kim talked over me, argued, and claimed there was nothing she could do to help me. But when I called back and spoke with a Robin she was EXTREMELY helpful - informed me that I needed to return to the store with my photo ID, items, credit card, and the order confirmation information that can be obtained via the 800 number...which is a proof of purchase! I walked into the store was assisted by a different associate who didn't seem flustered or worried at all about all the supporting documentation I was providing them with...said that magic ORDER CONFIRMATION code would allow them to issue a transaction refund no problem! So the bottom line is be super careful how you purchase items at The Container Store (ie. cash, credit card, etc.) A card can ALWAYS be traced, so you can pull up information on what was purchased. Do not let ill-informed or a lazy store associate and/or manager claim there is NO way to pull up that kind of information! Other point to consider: Even if you speak to multiple unhelpful associates/managers - don't give up...eventually there will be someone on that 800 line who understands the meaning of customer service! read more

I know I should love this store. I like this store a lot. I like how organized it is, and how it is divided up by parts of your life (travel, closets, kitchen, office, etc.). What I don't like is that a lot of their products can be found elsewhere for cheaper (ie. Target, Cost Plus). When we first moved into our place, I was inspired to organize my pantry. I bought a lazy susan (great find), a bunch of half shelves, some spice shelves to attach to the door. I also happened to pick up a under the sink shelf. Well, it didn't fit. The first time we had guests over, I stuck it in the laundry closet. Well, this past week, I noticed it again -- mind you, two years later -- and took it back to the Container Store. They gave us store credit. Now THAT's AWESOME! Anyway, since the pantry organization day, we have also bought mantle shelves for our kitchen and picture ledges for our dining room. I've even learned how to tie bows during Christmas. The wrapping paper selection is very nice, but alas -- I'm a mom of elementary school kids and have enough wrapping paper when once I year I buy fundraiser goods. I do admit, though, that sometimes I come for ideas . . . and then go to "Tar-jay" to see if I can get it cheaper. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Container Store. I used to shop at the San Francisco location but I recently moved to the East Bay so this is my new go to store for all of my storage needs. I can't go to this place without leaving with a huge bag of containers, jars, boxes, and other random things I probably dont need but were so cute or pretty I couldn't live without them. The items are overpriced and most can be found elsewhere for cheaper but I like the way the store is laid out and everything is easy to find. The staff was very friendly, available, and helpful when I needed something off of the top shelf. I didn't have to hunt someone down which I liked. read more

I had no idea how cool this place was until I came here this weekend. The store itself was clean, organized and had everything a Type A personality would want! Too bad I'm on the extreme side of Type B but this is a good place to get me organized. This store is pet friendly as just about every staff person came and greeted my dog and offered her a treat. They kneeled down to pet my dog and engaged in small talk with me. Definitely made me feel welcomed there. They have containers for EVERYTHING and the store is divide sections by room (ie. kitchen, closet, bathroom, garage, packing etc). Kitchen step stool - check little plastic bottle with a straw so that I don't have to buy individually packaged milks for my son's lunches - check cool bulletin boards to replace the hideous one my husband insists on having - check tall wire bin to collect all the balls, bats, etc floating around on our garage floor - check perfectly sized gift container so that I don't have to wrap it - check shelves for my son's growing collection of sports figurines - check Uber friendly staff. read more

Do not come to this store. Order online and pickup. If you enter this store by the time you leave you will be at least two years older and have lost part of your soul. Not because of all the options of containers, but because I've now been standing in line at checkout without moving for 15 minutes. I stood in the back checkout for 8 minutes and it didn't move there either. The line is 10 people deep. Everyone is complaining. "Sorry, but the other checker is on break." There are employees standing around at the front, one checker open. The store is disorganized, many things in wrong places. Unlabeled, not priced. It takes about 5-10 minutes per customer to checkout. This is the worst run department store I've ever seen. Order online and pickup. Do not come in. You've been warned. read more

Only giving it 3 starts despite the fact that it is an awesome store because as i walked into the women's bathroom, went into the stall and realized there was a strong feces smell in there and i figures it was just because its a public bathroom right? wrong i looked down and realized there was feces all over the floor and I didnt evem use the restroom at that point walked out of the stall and headed to the sink to check my shoes and there was feces on them. Took me about 5 minutes to clean it off and on top of that, the feces trailed off towards the sink where i had to strategically place my feet so they wouldnt get more feces on them. super disappointed about that. I would imagine that someone would've walked in and realized that before other people were able to walk in but oh well! wasnt offered any compensation for that which was disgusting. read more

What else would you expect? Always in great locations, a huge corner one though I have to say it's probably the smaller of the Bellevue or Portland one. It's the Christmas season out in full force when not just the storage containers come with red lids but even one for the wreath! they think of everything... the office stuff I think is more spacious, on the right side. Washrooms clean too. ended up buying these gadgets to keep your charging cords more organized, as well as TV cables off the floor, goes right on the walls instead. I am nuts for glass jars to store bulk items in. My sweetheart thinks I was an apothecary in a past life. So I love field trips to the Container Store like nobody's business. So why three stars and not five? I get freaked out by the amount of unnecessary plastic storage devices. Surely you don't really need a special domed plastic container to store half an onion? A BPA-free glass or polycarbonate square container would serve just as well and be multi-use and stackable in the bargain. Or store cut-side down on a plate, under an upturned bowl in the fridge.* If you ever wind up with half an onion; I hardly ever do. The employees - while always very nice - need some kind of damp sponge so they aren't constantly licking their fingers to grab paper to wrap items. The licking is really unnecessary and, frankly, gross - and yet every cashier I've had does this! I came down with a cold immediately after my last visit and can't help but wonder. I might actually write up an email to Mssr Container and Mlle Store. *No wonder my sweetheart's family thinks I'm a hippie. read more
