We had a electrician in our home yesterday doing some work. While up in our attic he noticed that our AC drain pan was leaking and the unit didn't look right. He was under no obligation to tell me about what he saw, but he did and I am so grateful. Cue the panic though...AC issues in Texas? That's immediately a scary thought especially as we are gearing up for the summer heat. I called a few companies but got all voicemails boxes. Frustrated, I went to yelp and found The Coolest. Someone immediately answered and although he couldn't get someone out to my house yesterday, he scheduled for someone to come today (the very next day!). Mark and Dagan were very helpful! They rerouted the ducts in the attic so the piping for the AC to the master bedroom is more efficient. They have been a pleasure to deal with from getting a quote all the way through installation of my new AC units. The Coolest was able to send a tech at noon on Saturday right after the winter storm moved through Austin, and confirmed that my downstairs blower furnace was dead. They quoted a very competitive price, and Mark provided all the details on what was to occur during the AC replacement. He even did the energy rebate paperwork for me. Curtis and his partner showed up at 9am on the day of installation, and they were both very diligent about the work they did. Everything was completed on time, clean-up was properly done, and Curtis explained how to use the thermostats. The Coolest LLC was recommended by a neighbor in the "Mommies In South Austin" Facebook group. Of course during the hottest stretch of the year, our AC stopped blowing cool air last night. Our house was 93° by morning so I was beyond relieved when they had availability same day before noon. Travis came out, diagnosed our issue, and I was fully expecting him to say we needed a new unit, which we were dreading. He instead recommended repair to our ampassitor (?) and a kick-start to prolong the life of our unit. He said there was nothing really wrong to warrant purchasing a new unit, and that there were some benefits of keeping this one as long as we can, which we were so relieved to hear. We chose The Coolest to simply get a second estimate, but after James came to inspect our AC unit (the same day we called) and give his assessment which was more helpful than the first company that came by, AND give a lower estimate, we went with The Coolest. The job was complicated and James completed it and our AC is COOOOL again. Unfortunately for me, I called a few other companies first and had 6 service visits from other companies before calling The Coolest. Mark and team have been amazing to work with. Being a first time home owner, selecting a new AC/heating system seemed pretty daunting. Mark took the time to take me through my options -- the pros/cons of certain systems, what would qualify me for the best rebates for the city etc. I took the time to secure 2 others quotes, and hands down, the information and customer experience I received from Mark was above and beyond what I experienced from other companies. During instillation, a curve ball was thrown from the my earlier system. The team was creative in finding the best path forward and pushed (staying later than anticipated) to complete all of the work in the single day. I was going to leave this at a 3, but someone asked me questions and I see the owner decided to take zero responsibility and actually pretend that the issue was me. Mind-blowing that this place could not see that I had been kind with the 3, but that is ok we will air the rest of the laundry on this for people. 1. The company wasted my time which is past insanely rude. I had to follow-up multiple times to get a response on e-mails. Let's not forget about the hour waiting on the person to get the correct address from the dispatcher the first time they serviced the units. Then the time wasted by the tech not knowing that there were 2 units and the again by him having to go back to take pictures because he was also not told that we were looking for a bid. To be clear the office person had me listed as a place of business 30 minutes or more away with one unit. Hum, how is that my fault? 2. I still over looked the first set of issues because the tech was that top notch. I literally had decided to use them for both units because I was going to be sure that the tech from the unit servicing was involved. 3. As the remodel got closer and I touched base and waited several days for a response, again how is this my fault that they made me wait? I contacted them again and I was told the reason for me having to follow-up is because the company was too busy to respond to my e-mail. 4. Then the company uses the excuse that I said "no" to them coming to the house again. Wait you are too busy to respond to an e-mail until the CUSTOMER tries again, but can waste hours coming back to the house to see the exact same thing? Hum? Anyone else want to explain how this makes sense? Also I told them they were welcome to come back, but it would be waste of time, but that was on them not me. 5. I provided the remodel drawings/plans to the company in the first touch base e-mail, if a remodel has not started there is nothing new to see so what is the point? The plans/drawings are what will tell them what changed, but no one could take the time to look at the plans/drawings or call me to talk to me. Probably more like the first e-mail got lost and the office person did not want to admit to it so complained that I was rude and demanding. Alternatively they were going to delay other trades by waiting to figure it on the day of install because they literally had to see it first. 6. While getting new bids, other companies said we have to see the remodel plans/drawings, hum, which is exactly what I provided to this company, but this company instead told me that they had to come back to the house. Now that I think about it the office person probably lost the first set of pics done which is why they needed to come back to the house. Which maybe explains the overwhelming stench of defensiveness in the owner's response. After getting new bids I see that my guardian angels were definitely looking out for me. Maybe these guys can do a basic replace of 1 unit, but I certainly would not trust them to do a full install, especially of duct work in area that will require drywall to be removed if the ducting is messed up. Definitely not 2 units with UV sanitizers and a dehumidifier in 1 house. Also, there is a clear inability for them to keep track of anything so only call them if you are going to have them do something immediately, definitely do not bother if you are revamping your entire floor plan which requires planning when trades will come in for their portion of the work. I hope the tech that serviced my units opens his own place. read more

Our ac stopped blowing cool air over the weekend, so we called the Coolest on Sunday. Knute was upfront about the fact we could save the weekend fee if we waited until Monday morning. We were happy to wait a day, and our service person was even able to come an hour earlier than originally scheduled. Dagan was super personable, a very good listener, and was able to troubleshoot our issue & get everything up an running in less than 30 minutes! He willingly stayed longer and let us ask him a 100 questions about a/c tips. He had a lot of great advice to offer! I'd highly recommend Mark and his team! I have a more detailed review below for people who like details, but in short The Coolest was priced fairly, extremely responsive, and the work was flawless. Mark even filed my warranty paperwork and applied for an energy efficient rebate from the City of Austin on my behalf. Also - all things equal, can you really justify not going with someone who has "Air Legare" on their business card? I had Mark come out to do a pre-summer check on my system as it hadn't really been working great on warmer days. When I moved into my house last August, I had some HVAC issues immediately while "under warranty". The work was sourced by the warranty company (Fox Services) and they had to replace the evaporator coil because the system was freezing up.....fast forward to March. Mark took a look at the furnace and noted that the replaced part was incorrect and causing issues with my system, creating a leak in refrigerant from too much pressure. The replacement part would have been ~$2K on a 13 year old system....so instead we discussed replacement options. Mark was very knowledge and honest, which was great since I am not an HVAC expert. The options were a 14 SEER replacement or the higher end, energy efficient MyEvolution system from Bryant which came at a higher price point. Thinking through the economics / payback period with Mark, I opted for the MyEvolution and couldn't be happier. In the few weeks since the work, my house is less humid and the temperature variance between floors is now negligible. The install crew (James & Curtis) showed up early on a Monday and were able to knock out the job by about 6 PM. Mark had warned me that we might need to open up a wall to replace the furnace as it was in a small closet, but they were able to get it in there, which saved me some post-project cash. James and Curtis were great and kept me in the loop as they progressed throughout the day - and they were very welcoming to my dogs, who wanted to be part of the install crew as well. Compared to the other quotes I received, Mark actually came in lower - which considering the quality of work / service, is incredible! If you have HVAC needs, Mark is your guy! read more
