I would like to give 4.5 stars but couldn't quite do 5! First of all, what a find in this small town. Do not miss this place on your visit! We are from the Nashville, TN area and it is better than some high end restaurants back home. Good: bone marrow, crab cake, spinach salad (esp the dressing!), popovers, mashed potatoes, carrots, service, ambience, sweet anniversary card on the table! Could be improved: duck was overcooked, stems on spinach. Really that's all. We will definitely visit our next time in town!

Amazing food and service! Highly recommended. Everything from drinks to appetizers were perfect. It was beautiful and clean and would go back.

what a great time! Not just a company. I brought an engaging conversation, but the staff is amazing friendly knowledgeable. The food is something you cannot miss. I have the stuffed flounder and it is stuffed with real crab meat and velvety smooth taste.

The copper door offers a traditional fine dining experience that is not widely available in this region. I had heard very good things about the restaurant and had high expectations. I was a little disappointed. My husband and I were visiting this area for our 14th wedding anniversary. I emailed them a few weeks in advance to let them know we were celebrating this special occasion (the reservation confirmation said to email them with any special info). I never got a response and no one in the restaurant had any idea we were celebrating anything until we told them. The service was good but nothing special. The food was good, but again, nothing special. They have a very extensive wine list. Overall it was a nice meal but nothing stood out to us. It was a bit pricey.

There's an article on the wall by the bar that compares this restaurant to the likes of French Laundry, and while that is pretty lofty, the food at The Copper Door was definitely unexpected for a small town in North Carolina. And it was definitely the best spot we ate at on our 2 week trip to Lake Chatuge. We came twice and had both the menu in the restaurant and at the bar. Drinks were good too, and I don't find many places outside of the UK where Pimms is on the drink menu. The menu in the restaurant is a 4 course menu, which you have seasonal options to select each course. Food was well presented, prepared and delicious. The bar menu is a la carte, and was just as good, but you can't get items from the restaurant menu and vice versa. Hence , having to go twice to explore both menus.

Great place. Didn't expect to find fine dinning in such a small town. Pot roast was perfect.

Best shrimp and grits I've had in a while! This restaurant was fancy and unexpectedly great for the area. We really enjoyed the food!

Ask the Community - The Copper Door

    Our kids allowed?

Of course! We don’t have a kids menu but can work with you on something they would enjoy, like buttered pasta with chicken.

What is the corkage fee to BYOB?

Our corkage fee is $10 per bottle of wine. Cheers!

Dress code: Are shorts allowed in the summer? We have been many times in the winter wearing jeans and no one has complained. Thank you!

No problem with shorts in the summer. My wife and I have dined there a number of times, in all seasons, we have worn shorts. So relax and enjoy.

When we walked in, we waited to be seated, we were standing close to the cash register and kitchen area. As we waited we listed to one of the staff complaining that wasn't a great sign. As we were being seated, we noticed all the cute decor! Someone took a lot of time to make the place look so cute! The waitress was super attentive! Hubby ordered the special, a Meatball sandwich and I ordered a salad with fried chicken tenders... I had to cheat a little bit. That Fried Chicken was calling my name! The food came out after a little bit of a wait. I completely understand because the chicken was fresh. But my poor hubby got a mess of a sandwich. It appears they made the sandwich and it sat while the chicken cooked. It was a soppy soggy mess. The bread was drenched and completely mush. He said the French Fries weren't much better. I asked him if he could eat just the meatballs and he picked up them each up with a fork and each and everyone of them were completely black on one side. Totally burned. Boy I felt bad because my chicken was delicious! This is the reason I added two stars. We went to pay, my husband leaving his hot mess in his plate. The owner was at the cash register, I found this out because she answered the phone while checking us out (stating her name was Julie). She was in such a mood, she was rude to the person on the phone placing an orderIn fact she was even rude to us, she scared the bjesus out of me....so we didn't say a word. I sure didn't want to complain and start an altercation . Hubby will never go back. He was not happy at all. I might go back, maybe with a friend and hope next time is better ‍ Possibly everyone was having a bad day? It was not crowded when we dined, as it was around 2:30pm. We thought this would be an asset, but we were wrong. Here is hoping it was an off day for them. Dine at your own risk my friends. Stay away from soggy sandwiches! Go for the fried chicken
