Converted skeptic. A yelp review for this place said "best bagel sandwich ever". Frankly my…read moreresponse was, "Ever? Like in all place and all time in the history of man? Where is this person from? Small town or NYC?" So expectations were low. But let me tell you, after a few bites I was thinking there's no way the king of Babylon had a bagel sandwich this good. That maybe, just maybe it actually was a better sandwich than that of our forefathers. And maybe that yelp reviewer was more historian than day hiker. It's like you drive up to Prescott and go take your kids to a park and see some guy casually running a 3min mile. You tell him, "what are you doing up here? You should be in the Olympics smashing world records?" And he just tells you, "I just like running." That's this place - it's got no business being up here just casually making transcendent bagel sandwiches. Someone needs to write about this place on a stone tablet in 5 languages so our posterity can have some sort of record for when in 1000 years some guy casually says unchallenged that they're eating the "best bagel sandwich ever".

I say "mildly suprised" because once we walked up to the actual coffee house we heard the live music on the large back patio. One of our absolutely favorite local artist, Aaron Howard was performing, and he definitely brings in a crowd. It was busy, as I mentioned, but not too crowded, and we found a good table towards the back. As it was the begging of the hot weather this spring, we were very grateful for the generous-sized table umbrellas. But first, we went inside the Bodega to order a Beer and a snack. They have a great selection of Beer and wine! And since we were still 2 hours or so away from dinner, we decided to grab a veggie & cheese board, which had a nice variety of cruditè and humas. It was very satisfying for 2 adults. We spent.a total of about 2 hours there and left there knowing we would be coming back to Janey's. Side note: For those of you who need accessibility, I myself am on an electric scooter for ambulating. The parking lot is dirt and only has a couple of handicap parking spots. But no space is more than approximately 150 ft from the entrance to Janey's. Once you get to the building, it is very easy to get in and out of the main bodega, with wide, level doorways. The doors were propped open when we visited. I did not utilize the restroom on this visit.

Julie explained that the ground beef used is also used for the chili, and that it was a little spicy. My wife is sensitive to spicy food, but she decided to give it a try. It was the highlight of her meal; just the right amount of heat and not overly spicy, and rest of the salad was fresh and tasty. The cranberry walnut salad I ordered was also fresh and tasty, although the chicken was a bit dry. Our son ordered the home made biscuits and gravy, which he said were delicious. The gravy was amongst the best he's had, and it contained bits of sausage. The serving sizes were all very generous, so there was no room for pie, unfortunately. Julie invited us to come back next week and leave room for pie, so we did just that. It was a really good meal, and a great way to start our vacation, worthy of five stars. Business was relatively slow on our first visit, but, when we visited the following Saturday, the restaurant was packed, since Memorial Day is the start of the summer travel season. We were seated within 15 minutes and were promptly greeted by Dakota. She told us the kitchen was out of numerous items and gave us a few minutes to look over the menus. One of the menus was quite dirty, with what seemed like maple syrup on the plastic-covered page. This time, I ordered the rib basket appetizer, my wife ordered a chopped salad with grilled chicken, and our son ordered the Rock Springs burger. On our first visit, the food took 10-15 minutes to arrive, on this visit, it took nearly 30 minutes. The ribs were meaty, but were room temperature, and seasoning was light and unremarkable. My wife's chopped salad was stacked high and served on a regular plate. There was so much salad that it was difficult for her to eat without the salad ending up on the table and, after 15 minutes, it looked like she'd hardly made a dent in it. She said the chicken was very dry, and ended up leaving more than half or her salad uneaten. Our son had no complaints about the burger, which appeared to be cooked perfectly. We each ended up getting a slice of the Dutch crust apple pie ala mode, which was served warm with a generous scoop of high quality vanilla ice cream. Rock Springs Cafe has quite a history, and the decor really shows its Western history. However, it looks like it hasn't been refreshed in nearly 20 years, and some of the posters, plaques and other things on the wall are in rough shape. The men's bathroom are unique, furnished with urinals made from beer kegs and more license plates than you can count. Rock Springs Cafe was a great stop for us, twice, and we plan to return on our next visit to the Grand Canyon.

Meanwhile I already paid a great tip on my actual bill, so I got a false charge and they kept the tip for themselves. If ya'll need the money that bad, keep it, just doesn't seem like the ethical thing to do. Service is quick. Loved the bagel which is a breakfast meal that is served until noon. You really can't go wrong here with any order. We had a lively conversation. We stayed outside for 1-1/2 hours.
