In search of a place to grub and watch the UVA basketball game, my friends and I came here for lunch. It's not so much a sport bar, but a pool hall slash restaurant. There was a single big tv at the bar so we posted up in front of it and the bartender accommodated our request to change it to the right channel. We enjoying chatting with him about a range of interesting topics from Donald Trump to the Super Bowl. The food here was just as awesome as the service. I went halfsies with my buddy and had the Blackened Shaved Steak and Chicken Club sandwich. Both were very good sandwiches that were fairly priced. The bread quality, in particular, was on point. Dinner after a movie. Even though it was a Saturday night we were seated quickly and service was prompt. Our waitress was outstanding- extremely friendly, filled all our glasses without us having to ask, and checked on us several times. There were four of us. Appetizers were Soup of the Day (Tomato Basil) and we split a dozen grilled oysters. Entrees were Spinach Salads, Ahi Tuna, The Special (Chicken Picatta). Everything was great. The oysters were perfect, soup delicious, and entrees were outstanding. Spinach salad was loaded with feta cheese, olives, and dried cranberries (opted out of the red onions). This place is what you would get if you combined a pool hall and a restaurant. There is a small bar and single TV where the pool hall meets the restaurant, but this is not a great option for having a drink and watching sports. There are several TVs by the pool tables, however. I went for lunch with some friends. I got the Chicken Club Sandwich (~$10 I think) and was surprised by how tasty it was. The chicken, avocado, and bread were all quality. I also appreciate that they served sandwiches with waffle fries. The service was very attentive. We had a few conversations with our very exuberant and talkative waiter which was nice, if not a bit different. Came in after a movie for a drink. Our server was so friendly! She offered great beer recommendations and seemed to be genuinely enjoying her work. On a Friday night at 9pm it wasn't crowded. Several pool tables were open. If we are ever in the area again we will be back and take advantage of the numerous pool tables or darts. This is a "as the dinner happened" review. Operating on a 1 to 10 scale 10 being best. So far we have had sodas and nachos. Sodas=2. How can sodas get a 2 you ask? When they taste like chalk is how. Nachos=4. Toppings were good but the chips were stale. The service is polite but slow. We ordered other stuff but it never came. I talked to the manager. My ex-wife and I went to Corner Pocket Saturday evening about 6:30ish. We were excited to find an unpretentious billiards room with a large menu and full service restaurant. We were given a rack of balls (by Adrienne), and told to pick any table and Hope would be right with us... In hind sight... maybe she said we should hope someone would be right with us! We waited... started our second game, no one even acknowledged us. Finally my ex went to the bar and got us drinks... this took nearly ten minutes... ten minutes of our time on the table which we were paying for by the hour. We finished these drinks... still... no hope. A few minutes we t by and Hope asked the people at the table next to us if they would like to order... I commented to them "at least she asked you"... which apparently was terrible of me to say. Hope heard and came to me in a combative/defensive manner. I was not apologized to... In fact I was given excuses as to why we were not recognized. At no point did either of us raise our voice, or use any profanity. I went to the bar and got another drink, and I spoke to Adrienne... again... somehow I was at fault for expecting service. Complaining about not being served is apparently a good enough reason to be asked to leave and threatened to have the police called... to which I responded, "call them!" This was a great place... People were having fun, hell, we were having fun... I just did not want to spend my pool time going back and forth to the bar. I saw appetizing dishes coming from the kitchen, and would have liked to order some, alas it was not to be. I will not be back... LOL... I was banned... BANNED at 55. A the hell I raised as a youngin' I was never banned from anywhere. HOWEVER... I would go back if permitted and if you have read this far and were thinking of going... You should, you'll have fun... I went here on a Friday night for a friend's b-day celebration. Got here past 7 and only a few tables were being played, but it got a lot busier as the night went on. Pretty diverse group for Williamsburg, ranging from group of hot coeds to old grandpa playing solo to middle-aged couples night. Pretty fancy looking place too. Service Good Server patiently answered my excessive questions about the food and came by enough times without us feeling abandoned. However, they put everyone's food/drink on one check (for 8 people) and it seemed to be a hassle to figure it out at the register. Food Good Not the typical bar food I would have expected, and with the price tag to follow...but nothing outrageous. I recommend the chips and dip (BIG basket enough to feed like 4 people, with housemade chips, salsa, and amazing cheese dip) and the quesadilla appetizer. Also requested a side of ranch with my burger...and it was the most amazing ranch I've ever had. Layout Not So Good No problems with the pool tables, but there's so many of them and seem a bit too close together. I felt like I had to stick at the tables most of the nights because I felt in the way of my neigboring pool players when I was standing around near my table. read more

The food is fantastic. Since we're a couple with a small child, we don't get to experience the pool hall side of the business, but every time we're in Williamsburg, this is our lunch spot of choice with their selection of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and delicious food. The beer selection is limited, but includes some good options (or has every time I've been there). I don't think I've ever had a better grilled cheese sandwich. And my wife swears by their cuban. My girlfriend and I were down for a long weekend in Williamsburg and wanted to find a place to watch the Caps game on TV. When we got there, all the TV's were tuned to ESPN and the NFL draft coverage...however, they were very accomodating. They changed the TV near us to the Caps game and also turned up the volume on that game so we could hear it. The food was above average. I had a Soft-shell Crab Sandwich. The crab itself was fairly small...and it had lots of lettuce and tomato on it that covered much of the taste. MY girlfriend got a burger that was decent. She asked for medium and it came out more on the rare-medium rare side. That's exactly how I like it, but she was a little put off. Burger tasted great, in any case. Lynn has been a Williamsburg restaurant favorite since we moved here in 1999. She continues to adapt new menus and atmosphere. The restaurant can be a pool hall, sports bar, good for a group night out, date night or convenient spot for quick work day lunch. The menu is very flexible and always fits my mood. Her beer selection is fantastic and she always brings in the newest styles and local brews. You van go here everyday of the week and feel like it's your first time. This has been a fairly regular and favorite neighborhood restaurant for us. Ate there last night after a month away. Previously food was great and service usually very good. Last night the service was very slow and food was delivered for 8 or us over a 15 minute period after waiting 20 minutes. They were short two cooks due to illness so this didn't seem unreasonable. But then were were automatically charged 20% gratuity. Usually this would also be reasonable, but not after the very slow service last night, which the owner was aware of because she was also the server. The last surprise was that there is now a processing fee to use a credit card. This is a change, and there is no sign in the front of the restaurant where diners eat or one the menus. Only apparently at the cash register, which only billiards and bar customers see. The food was delicious, thank goodness. Beware, though - bring cash or be willing to pay a processing fee. (Also, no checks accepted.) Costs have certainly gone up, but I would prefer to have the prices go up to cover the cost of doing business than have a processing fee to use my charge card. read more

After recently visiting this The Comer Pocket I was so disappointed in the experience I decided to write my first review. The atmosphere is fine, it's clean and the servers were friendly. However, every member of our party ordered a mixed beverage. Not one of use could taste the liquor in our drinks. One I our party paid for a double just to taste the alcohol. One asked for more alcohol in the first drink but was refused the second time around. Drinks are not cheap, we paid for top shelf liquor and essentially revived glasses of soda, tonic or lie flavored water. None of use will ever go back for drinks again. Unless you are ordering beer or not drinking at all you would be better off skipping this place. read more

Oh, Corner Pocket. I'm going to do my best to review, but let's face it; I've spent many a night there that I don't exactly remember.... Corner Pocket is always a fun time. The staff is fun, the crowd is a good mix of people, there's scattered live music, and the food is good. You must get an order of cheese fries. Piping hot and crisp waffle fries topped with house-made cheese sauce (which I've failed to replicate at home, despite knowing how they make it); and what the hell, go for the bacon. Deeee-lish. They serve your typical all-American bar food... but so much better. Most items are made in-house, not just dumped into a fryer from a frozen bag. They've got interesting sandwiches and great burgers. They also have several great entrees. I'm not going to say it's the best meal you'll ever have... but it might just become your most favorite late night munchie spot. I've been equally pleased going here as a restaurant, bar, and pool hall. And they have NFL Sunday Ticket in the fall so football fans, take note. read more

I do enjoy going, despite how much I suck at pool. The food is fantastic, and there's some sort of chocolate-y drink they make in a martini glass that's to die for. Pool costs about $18/hour, which isn't bad when you've got a good sized group playing, but when it's just you and a friend and you play for a while (which is easy to do), it adds up REALLY FAST. The atmosphere is nice, and they've changed the channel on the TVs several times for me to watch the Caps games. I've also been there on nights where they've had live bands, and it gets REALLY busy...like they can't let you in due to fire code. read more

The Corner Pocket is a really great-looking place, but I was really disappointed in the atmosphere on what should have been a great night in a sports bar. My visit was on the night of the Virginia Tech-Ohio State game on Labor Day. It was a big game for the area's big college athletics squad on a holiday against one of the largest fanbases in the country. I came prepared for a large crowd. We showed up thirty minutes before game time, and the place was virtually empty. There were only two other parties in the place. One lady at the bar, and an older couple in a booth. We grabbed a high-top where we could see the TV on which the pre-game show was playing. There was no sound on the TV, and there was some really bad techno-rock music playing. Well, no one ever showed up. There were eventually a group of about four women at the bar. A few other couples came and went, but we were clearly the only ones there for the game. They never put the sound for the game on -- techno-rock ruled the night -- and after dinner we left rather than stay for the rest of the game. We went home and watched it on TV instead. The food itself was pretty good. It was also a little pricey. An appetizer, an entree, a couple of iced teas, and two desserts, which we indulged in based on the recommendation of the waitress, were all nice but the bill surprised us both. I like this place. Nice and clean. It's laid back enough to hangout and shoot some pool with a beer and nice enough to have a good meal with the in-laws. The price was decent for the amount of food. You certainly get your fill. I have the Chesse Steak Sandwich and it was just ok. It wasn't seasoned as much as I would have like and the hoagie wasn't full of meat. Normally on a good CSS you have steak falling off the buns. Not here. I liked the spread of beers as well. Sea Dog Blueberry Ale was great. The staff was nice and attentive. I went after work last night with some friends to grab a drink, but ended up ordering food for myself as well. The server was slow to get to us, but it WAS Saturday night and the place was swamped, most notably by a middle-aged crowd who was really whooping it up. He was exceptionally efficient and friendly. We got a pitcher of Devil's Backbone IPA to share between three people, and I ordered the black bean burger. I was very impressed with their beer list, and there are a wealth of bottled craft beers I'm itching to try! I did find the pitcher to be massively overpriced compared to other local haunts. There appeared to be several pool tables open despite the healthy crowd. Clientele was loud as stated, but not causing any problems. I feel that the bean burger was a little pricey for the portion, and I wish the patty had had more seasoning, or I probably would have gone 5 stars. The english muffin it was served on was excellent, and they were generous with the avocado. I'll likely revisit to try more of the varied menu and update my review accordingly. I'm also looking forward to digging into the beer list. Overall, I think Corner Pocket is worth a visit, especially if you're looking for a change of pace from the downtown campus crowd on your next night out. read more

I've never been to the area before, but came here on a Friday night for drinks. I will say our server, Becca, was awesome. She was very enthusiastic, and really easy to talk to. She kept making jokes with our friends, and learned all of our names, it was refreshing to have such good service. The atmosphere on a Friday night was laid back, we played darts and stood by the pool table, it wasn't very busy. They also have a nice outdoor patio.
