Nachos were great. Went down lunch and we were the only ones there. Nothing special by day. Looks like it turns into a club at night.

Even walking in, we weren't quite sure what to expect. The entrance is small, and you're greeted right away, which was a nice touch. Once inside, it's very dark with deep red lighting--almost like stepping into a cave. It took a moment for our eyes to adjust, but once they did, we immediately felt at ease. The space is cozy and perfectly aligned with its purpose: it's all about the jazz. The service was great--welcoming, attentive, and added to the overall experience without taking away from the music. And the music? Absolutely captivating. It pulls you in and transports you--you can't help but settle into the vibe and just enjoy the moment together. We went on a Monday, so there was plenty of seating, but I noticed there's also a lower level that likely accommodates larger weekend crowds. There's a solid drink menu and a small selection of food, but honestly, this isn't the place you come for a full meal. Come for the drinks, stay for the music, and soak in the atmosphere.

To my pleasant surprise, the show was excellent, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. My boyfriend and I decided to visit on a whim while we were in Kansas City. Parking wasn't too difficult for a Friday night, and we were surprised to learn that the venue is located inside a hotel. Lonnie delivers a fantastic performance with great audience interaction, and his band is incredibly talented. The entertainment was easily the highlight of the evening. As for the food, it was just okay. We both ordered the Beef Wellington, and while it had good flavor, parts of the meat were quite chewy, which was a bit disappointing given the overall cost of the experience. Before visiting, I found information online suggesting dinner would cost around $50-$100 per person, so I anticipated spending under $200 for the two of us. Unfortunately, that estimate was far from accurate. When the bill arrived, it was already over $240, which caught me off guard. There was no pricing visible on the menu, website, or Yelp page, so I had no way of knowing what to expect. To make matters worse, when my card was processed, the final charge ended up being around $350 after additional fees and taxes were added, including tourism and hotel-related charges. I completely understand that quality entertainment comes with a cost, and I have no problem paying for a great dinner-and-show experience. My frustration stems from the lack of transparency. If guests are expected to spend this much, pricing should be clearly disclosed somewhere, and any additional fees should be communicated upfront rather than appearing as a surprise at the end of the night. Overall, if you're looking for a fantastic live show and don't mind a higher price tag, you'll probably enjoy Lonnie's. However, if you're on a budget or simply looking for an upscale dinner with some background music, this may not be the right fit. The entertainment was outstanding, but the lack of pricing transparency left a sour note on an otherwise enjoyable evening.

Recently, I went to the Knuckleheads Garage to see the Texas Headhunters, which is a newer band featuring my favorite guitar player and singer Ian Moore. The experience was pretty great from start to finish. I was able to buy a ticket online and save it to my Apple wallet. It was super easy to get in. Parking was on-site and plentiful. They had a great opening act that was a local band from Kansas City. I liked that the drinks were affordable and super cold. I got a tall Quirk for $8. Beers were similarly priced. Later in the evening, I got hungry and scored a hotdog for six dollars. The whole place is cash only. Be advised you will not tap to pay. They have an ATM on site if you need cash. The concert was fantastic! The band was amazing and I was very pleased with the experience. There's a large seating area with tables and chairs in the middle of the venue and on the north side there are rows of old airline or bus seats with cupholders that are amazing. You are even welcome to go down into the pit without an extra special kind of ticket The sound was great and not too loud, it was very clear and clean, the lights were well done and they even had robotic video cameras with someone mixing the video on screen and out in the bar area so you didn't have to miss what was happening. The restrooms were clean and nice. The whole thing was a great experience. I will most certainly be returning to Knuckleheads for live music!!

Museum is small but has tons of exhibits and it is well organized and decorated with a lot of interactive displays. Getting a glimpse of Ella Fitzgerald dress was one of many highlights for me. I had no idea how influential and historical Kansas City was to jazz music. I was expecting more from this museum…read more The museum is really small, and the few rooms are pretty sparse. There aren't many artifacts to look at. One pro is that the museum is very interactive. There's a lot of spots where you can play different jazz pieces and read about them. There's an interesting section that teaches you about rhythm, harmony, and mixing. Otherwise, the museum just has some basic facts about a handful of popular jazz musicians like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Not much interesting to read or look at. There is a nice introductory video with a little history of jazz, but I left feeling like I still know nothing about the local jazz history of Kansas City! Admission is only $10 for adults. You can buy tickets online or at the gift shop. At least the museum isn't expensive! If you're already going to the baseball museum, you might consider checking out the jazz museum as well. You can still access the museum entrance even with the current construction/closure on 18th street (Aug 2025). There's also an entrance in the back that connects to the parking lot. There's a parking map on the baseball museum website that is super helpful. Both museums are in the same building but require different admission tickets.

I had the Estrella, which comes with passion fruit sorbet on top of sparkling wine and nicta (corn liquor). It was interesting, but once the sorbet melted into the drink, it mostly just tasted like sorbet. Good, just not very "cocktail-forward." My husband had the Jade Jaguar, which was tasty -- probably a solid 7/10. Our friend ordered the Oaxacan, which ended up being the table favorite: smoky, slightly sweet, and really well balanced. We only tried a couple of snacks. The chicharrones were a highlight -- warm, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The bar nuts, however, weren't a favorite. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for something different and visually/atmospherically special. The music is great but a bit loud, so it's not ideal for long conversations or group hangouts. We didn't try the food menu beyond snacks, but based on the experience, I'd still recommend it for drinks and vibes.
