I had the American scramble with added avocado for breakfast. Katelyn was my server and so pleasant. She was welcoming and had a great personality. She was attentive but not overbearing. She gave me advice on what's worth seeing and what not to waste time on as I'm a Californian. She offered to refill my coffee but make it Togo which was awesome as it is some of the best drip coffee I've had. As I was leaving I happened past their bakery case and legit hear the cinnamon coffee cake say my name, so of course I rescue a slice and took it with me. Super cute place! It appears to be a local favorite as well as a place people who are visiting return to often. Service was fast as others have noted. I wanted something light and my companion wanted something filling and this place had both. I had the tuna poke salad, and my companion had fried green tomatoes (which are topped with shrimp and served with a marinara type sauce) and the crab and corn pot pie, which is absolutely packed with a ton of crab. This place doesn't have a ton of options but the food is super good! They do end breakfast at 11am though, so if you want breakfast go early! The parking is easy and free on the street and service was fast. Definitely not a great place for large groups, but they have a good bakery inside as well if you just want desserts or pastries to go. read more

Cute little neighborhood breakfast spot. Came by on a Sunday around 10am and we were seated immediately. Service is fast and good. Within a minute or two, a waitress came and took our drink order. As first timers, we were not ready to order but we were on a timeline. So when she returned with my coffee and our waters, we ordered. I had the corned beef hash and my date had the southern gentleman. While we waited for our food, I perused the cafe, checking out all the tea, decor, desserts and awards. Food came out right away. They also brought us hot sauce and ketchup per our request. Our server came by to see if we needed refills and to see how we liked our food. The southern gentleman was presented different from what I would imagine. I thought it would be a stack of English muffin, fried green tomato, crisscross bacon, sliced sausage, topped w poached egg. Instead, it came in a casserole dish with the English muffin on the side. This was less than ideal because the bacon and sausage were all chopped up and everything was sitting in its own grease. Nonetheless, the dish was tasty, albeit too greasy/fried. The cottage corned beef hash was unusual. It looked more like stewed beef. They cook the corned beef in Worcestershire creme fraiche and then dump it into a piece of bread, and top it with poached eggs. It was a very plain looking dish but it was delicious. I wished for a few more potatoes to be mixed in though. All in all, our dishes were hearty and filling. Service was great. We didn't get any of the sweets; they looked good, but I was put off by the spoon that was fully submerged in the almond cake pan. The almond cake is wet like a tres leches. They should not leave the serving spoon in the pan like that. I'm sure that's a violation. This made me wonder how they fare on their inspections. Of note, this place roasts their own coffee. It's called May River roastery. You can buy their beans! But they really should play up their tea service. The selection is unreal!!!! There is a small bathroom through the kitchen. It's weird cuz it has a shower, but it's clean. Parking is along the street. I would recommend this place for breakfast, coffee and tea. We were in and out of there in less than 40 min which was spectacular, as we were on the way to the airport. read more

I ordered their Breakfast Shrimp and Grits and they were great! It was a little different style for me as I am used to a heavier sauce and not tomato based. The shrimp were fresh and not over cooked but I couldn't tell if they were local or not and I forgot to ask. The staff was awesome! My server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I decided to try one of their slices as cake as well so I ordered the coconut with raspberry glaze and it was perfect with the local coffee they offer. As far as the atmosphere I always love going to Old Town Blufton and The Cottage was the perfect environment to admire the community. I will return to try something else next time! read more

We didn't realize we were arriving 5 minutes before the kitchen closed so everything was rushed and food flew out (out of order, lunch first with salad later). I ordered a cake for our 48th anniversary......it was suppose to be a red velvet cake with chocolate ganache between the layers and a light buttercream icing. Well the red velvet layers tasted like a cake mix, no chocolate ganache....instead a super thick layer of white icing that taste like shortening, and the icing on the outside of the cake was unbelievably heavy. I had already told friends we would be sharing some cake but I hesitated to even give it to them based on taste and appearance. Very cute place with a good location near several shops and galleries in Bluffton. The menu is a little limited, but I think there's something for everyone. The service is very good with nice staff members. I did not try the desserts, but they looked amazing! I will say I thought the scrambles were overcooked (I hate when eggs get browned, so I ended up just picking out the shrimp and veggies from the scramble); I also found it strange that there were full mozzarella balls, unmelted, in the scramble (I think shredded cheese is best in eggs). Bacon is in a lot of dishes, so if you keep kosher or don't eat pork, keep that in mind. Also, my mom's black coffee cost nearly $4.00, and there was a $3.00 up-charge for grits, even though it was replacing the toast and fruit (i.e. not in addition to them). I would go back, but maybe I'd order something else. read more

It was flavorful and just the right size portion. The coffee was locally roasted and tasty which is always a surprise when normally I expected crappy diner coffee at a cafe, but this was not the case here! Everything's fresh and wonderful along with portion sizes. The tea is absolutely wonderful. But if I'm being completely honest nine dollars seems pretty steep for tea. It's a lot less expensive if you purchase it bring it home and make it for yourself. They are extremely strict about their mask policy. This place is a joke. How do you think it is acceptable to change 18 to 20 dollars for breakfast when the food and service is way below average. At breakfast you get a basket on the table with packets of ketchup that are like you are in McDonald's. No bread or muffins or anything to complement your meal, and this is a bakery place. All the meals came out at different times, that is ridiculous. At least 8 minutes between the first person and the third. And every time they brought a meal to the table they auctioned it off, not knowing where anything went. Even the last meal that came out the runner asked who it belonged to. You would think if he looked at the table he would notice that one person had no plate while the others were almost done eating. The food it self was horrible, if they think the hash that they serve is appealing, I would be very surprised. The eggs Benedict were the worst I have ever seen . My father used to Masson houses with slop like this. The sauce was so hard and thick it was like paste. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I will never again get taken for 90$ for three horrible breakfasts. Like I said if this is a joke I don't get it. All three of us agreed that this place is way overpriced and overrated. No one enjoyed the food at all. I am sure that whoever owns this slop shop would never want to try and defend themselves because I'm sure she gets the joke. It was chilly so we chose to sit in but they had outside and porch seating and if it was a bit warmer, we'd have done that. Decor is old cottage style with pretty photos adorning the walls and a multitude of vintage teacups and teapots exhibited. We ordered the shrimp and bacon hash with poached eggs. Delicious!
