It has a great beach atmosphere, right off the sand, ocean in front. The menu is full of a wide array of breakfast and lunch options. It is very clean. The waitress was wonderful and from Romania. Our food arrived quickly, hot and was very tasty. I rarely deviate from my favorites - the equivalent of the old "Grand Slam Breakfast" and each of the components met with my approval. My wife, son, and daughter all enjoyed their breakfast. We had eaten there while in Cape May on vacation last year, and we went back twice this year. We are back from vacation but our experiences there have left us with good memories. read more

First off, I walk in and the guy tells me to go grab a menu and sit down, seems like they don't tend to care too much about first impressions. As I walk in I feel like I'm in my grandmas house, not in a warm cozy feel but a, wow this place sucks. Next as we sit down, our waiter is actually pretty nice which is good. I then order a large chocolate milk. I just went on a run and so I am thirsty but when they bring the LARGE chocolate milk out it is filled up half way. We then waited a VERY long time for our food probably about 25 minutes. I then order chocolate chip pancakes, you wouldn't guess it! There was about 3 singular chocolate chips on each pancake. The pancakes were actually pretty decent and thank god the waiter was a nice good guy which is why this place gets at least two stars. read more

We heard that some have a nostalgic feeling about the Cove so we tried it for breakfast. -the iced and hot coffee was fine as you'd expect from a diner -the main double door needs a screen to keep out the flies. Really... WT F with letting all those flies in -bad bacon. How do you get it so rubbery? -the smallest toast I've ever seen. 2 pieces not enough to sop up 2 egg yokes -and are those pigeon eggs? I didn't know chicken eggs could be so small -thin rubbery pancakes. And can't you put those 20 tiny blueberries IN the batter instead of on top? -French toast... or was that just toast? I couldn't tell. -were the home fries ever placed on the griddle or straight from the pot of boiling water? 5 disappointed people left this place thinking about having a second breakfast somewhere else. On Sunday august 17 my wife and I had breakfast at The Cove in Cape May. Free parking while we were there was a nice treat. We were greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant. We sat on the inside porch which was cooled by ceiling fans and open windows. Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere! As soon as we were seated our drink order was taken. My wife drinks black coffee and she said it was hot and excellent. I got fried eggs, bacon, potatoes and rye toast. Everything was hot and perfectly cooked. The bacon was crisp and tasty. The potatoes were tender, crisp and delicious. My wife had the special. Lemon, ricotta pancakes which she chose strawberries as the topping. She raved about the pancakes being fresh, light and delicious. The restaurant was immaculate. Our waiter was friendly and prompt. Looking out over dunes and seeing the ocean was an especially nice experience as we enjoyed our breakfast. 10 out of 10!! read more

Great location at the end of the street next to the beach. Wish it had been warm enough to sit outside as I would have given this place 3 stars. Upon entering, it looks like it was an old hardware store on one side. The inside is very strange looking with a few owners I guess using their laptops at a couple of tables. A woman handed us menus & said to sit anywhere so we went to the other room with a nice beach view. My husband got eggs & I got the fried clam app. We enjoyed our food. It was just a strange vibe for us & silly me, I didn't check Yelp before going or else I would have never stepped in. I love The Cove with all my heart. Have been a customer for almost 40 years! Straight up (always) fresh fish, nice breakfast and lunch/dinner options with a beach atmosphere that can't be matched (with on site parking!) The same welcoming faces when we walk in. Prices are fair. The Cove is The Cove - pure and simple. Aside from dine-in meals, we've been ordering their Manhattan Clam Chowder to go forever. We always ate it on the beach. The waxed paper bag with the crackers and spoon inside! It became a yearly ritual when my daughters were young and has withstood the test of time. The "kids" are now 35 and 40. I've been known to order two cups of that chowder and freeze it for my daughters when they can't be with us. Thanks for the food and memories! read more

I have been following the coves renovations on Instagram. I was so excited that there was going to be a renewed energy at this great location right at the end of the boardwalk in Cap May. They have increased their seating with a nice porch and outdoor seating on a patio. So that's a big improvement. The original structure is still dark, blue and dingy, with some staff sitting around working on things at tables. The thing that surprised me was the lack of innovation with the food. It's basically diner food. Served on diner dishes. There is nothing spectacular going on there, sadly. I got sunny side up eggs, which were done perfectly, I must admit. My husband got an omelette that was unremarkable but fine. I got club soda out of a tap. My husband got hot, black coffee, and we got a side of melon that would fit in the cup of your hand if you're a woman. All this with tip came to over $40!! That doesn't include the hair that was on the plate holding the cup of melon. It doesn't cover the fact that I asked for rye toast, but got what appeared to be white bread toasted. When I asked the waitress if I could have the Ryebread toast instead, she said sure and that she will go get it. She apologized, of course. She never returned with the Ryebread! When I asked for after she dropped the bill on the table, the waitress pointed to our cold, toasted bread and said that that was Rye bread, but it didn't have seeds. We only had a few hours in town and wanted to get going, so when I asked for the bill, she rolled her eyes, but I caught her doing it. I think she was pissed at me over the Ryebread situation. We were always smiling, kind and understanding so it was unclear why she had attitude at the end when I asked her for the bill. I still gave her a fair tip. Cove team, you have a great location and the world is your (cape may) oyster! Level up and you'll make a great deal of money. Keep doing what you're doing and people will just go to the same old pancake places down the road. Oh, two more suggestions. All staff should speak about the specials that are written and on the floor, leaning up against the door. We did not notice that they had ricotta blueberry pancakes, which we definitely would've ordered. Just a thought point to the floor at your food sign over by the door! And, I know it's the end of the season, and you guys are probably exhausted and having and had enough of all of us tourists, but smiling will go along way towards your tip. You are the face of the Cove restaurant it's hospitality rule number one. Be annoyingly nice to the clientele. I'm just gonna go back to George's . That's my go to Place. read more

BEWARE!!! Stopped by to admire the view and decided to get sodas for my wife & I. I realize that this is not a year round location, so the businesses try to make the most money they can in a few short months. However, I asked for two medium-sized diet cokes & the man barked that they only had one size. Got them and he said they were $3.35 each for about a 16 ounce drink. That's about a dollar more than it should be. On top of that, he charged $.77 tax. I asked the tax rate & he said it was a 10% tax. I checked elsewhere & was told it is 6.65%. It was the the amount of money. But the idea that he acted as if the tourist was there to be taken advantage of. Be careful. read more

If you're looking for a breakfast/lunch spot away from the hustle and bustle, stop in The Cove Restaurant. My family came here at noon and ordered off both the breakfast & lunch menus. The cream cheese stuffed French toast with strawberries and tuna stuffed tomato were delicious. No food pics as no everyone dug in when it came to the table. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive. Nothing is fancy, just good homestyle cooking. We've been coming here for years and never had a complaint. In a word BLEH! I never write reviews but I wanted to warn someone else. I ordered French Toast with grilled pineapple and coconut. The French toast was clearly frozen. The grilled pineapple was from a can and was sour and gross. My waitress forgot the coconut which after taking the pineapple off made it edible. This was not worth $13. My daughter ordered a side of bacon which tge waitress forgot. She came back almost immediately which tells me there is just a big pile of bacon in the back. My daughter described it as beef jerky tough. Walking to splashburger for a muffin is worth the extra effort. read more

I like the concept of the guys at the front door saying "take a menu and sit wherever you like". Well I did !! Right on the ocean with gentle September breezes. You just have to realize the locals are kinda folksy here and with the fishing/ old time beach decor don't expect 5 star linen and China service. My server was nice and attentive. My 2 eggs over easy with bacon and potatoes and toast arrived promptly. Coffee was fresh and perfectly roasted. Waking up over coffee with this view is very nice. read more

this spot my family and I have come to year after year. the little shack restaurant at the end of the street. my parents have come here years before to watch the surfers and enjoy the atmosphere so close to the beach. today, I met the owner. a little cranky but ok. the waitress was very pleasant until the well done egg for my 8 year old didn't come out well done. we just let them know and share our eggs with her. the 2.50 wasn't taken off the bill. upon checkout as its cash only- i let the owner know that we didn't eat it as it wasn't prepared well done and simply asked to remove the 2.50 and I would add it to the 20 percent tip for the waitress. no problem. done. all seems well right? nope. somehow he overheard us- the chef- it was a quiet and pleasant conversation. he barged out attacked me. my fiancé showed him the error. he admitted it: I had gone to get the plate still on the table to show him. he cursed at me and told me never to come back. the owner said - he's just cranmy! we are on vacation at their restaurant asking for a meal a certain way that they had no problem accepting. it was horrendous. We had breakfast at this delightful restaurant on a beautiful July morning. From the moment we walked in everyone went out of his/her way to make us feel welcome and provide excellent service. My husband had eggs and bacon and I had cranberry french toast with almonds. All was delicious, hot and served promptly. It is a lovely location, too. This restaurant is located in an amazing location right on the ocean with a beautiful view of the Cape May lighthouse. The waitstaff was very nice and efficient and courteous. The management who was seated at the front when we walked in were very welcoming and nice. There was parking both on street and I'm on the perimeter of the restaurant ground and in the off-season there was plenty of it. The bathroom was acceptable with hand towels and hand soap and clean enough. The food itself, the grilled cheese and tomato, but at world-famous Manhattan clam chowder, the Caesar salad with grilled chicken were all rather unremarkable. The grilled cheese with tomato was oily, the soup had an abundance of celery and very little clam and the salad had old Romain lettuce and poorly seasons grilled chicken. The tea came in a large proper mug which we appreciated and again the views of the ocean from the covered deck was amazing and I guess that's what you go there because you're right on the ocean. The folks from good enough that I just might go back there even if it's just for a cuppa tea. read more

It seems like nobody knows about this place, which is strange because it's practically right on the beach. On Memorial Day weekend, it was the only place we could find for breakfast that didn't have a long waiting line. However, we come here whenever we're in Cape May and it's always a pleasure. The dining room whrn you first walk in is admittedly a little strange, it kinda looks like a hardware store. If you sit in the patio area, however, the view is very nice. The servers are always very friendly and personal, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for Cape May. My only complaint is that the food can be kind of bland, it just feels like it wasn't seasoned enough or correctly. Regardless, I still think it's a pretty underrated place that you should give a try. read more

What a bad experience. No wonder no one was in the place at noon on a great beach day. First, abrupt, angry looking owner hangs out in the front of the restaurant and scowls at patrons as they enter. I know the place does not take credit cards, but is posting 50 "no credit cards" signs really necessary? I had a scoop of chicken salad on a salad. The salad part was a few slices of tomato, some sliced onion and a little lettuce. The chicken salad tasted like the salad I can buy at ACME. The credit card deal is strange. The crab cakes are most definitely worth the wait. I ate them without the Kaiser roll that completed the Sandwich. And the Manhattan style soup loaded with large clams was derish. Sit in the seaside deck. You are literally eating great food on the beach. Plus if you need a quick cup of coffee to get your morning started come here. It's not gourmet, but they let us walk in barefoot. After all, our feet were covered in sand. Can't exactly put your socks and tennis shoes on...I tried and it was messy and yuck. read more

The lady tolerated our special requests and she took our pictures with humor. Seagulls were a bit bothersome outside but wait staff shoo'd them away.
