Crab Cake Lunch

I went here twice during my recent stay in Cape May, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Both meals were good, I had King Triton breakfast and the crab burger. I sat in the back by the dunes, the water is a little tough to see since it's behind the dunes but you can catch a glimpse of it, and the atmosphere is define still very beachy. The service was good, food came out quick both times.

This review is a bit late but all the more reason to note, came to Cape May w friends this summer for the first time & after arriving & unpacking this was our very first dining spot. Randomly walking a few blocks & this spot ticked off all the boxes, right off the beach, huge space inside, tons of tables & super fast & friendly service. We loved everything, food was delicious & all were very attentive. Pretty big portions, highly recommend!

Honestly, I was impressed with this place. All of the food was fresh, hot, and tasted pretty good! Was is the best quality ingredients? Not really, but it all tasted good! The waitress was very friendly as we did have a large party. The back patio seating was right on the beach, made a great atmosphere!

Crab cake sandwich with "fruit salad"

Was not a good experience. Very slow service. Crab cake was served with a "fruit salad" which was two pieces of cut up fruit(see pic). While the back deck had a nice breeze, the only view is of the sand dunes.

One of the worst places in cape may. I ordered the chicken Francaise and I've had soggy sponges look more appetizing. Very disappointing. My tummy also hurts now.

Petfect waterfront restaurant in Cape May. They have a large selection of menu items and great ice cream. Fun casual spot for lunch or dinner on a beach day.

Simple and filling along the promenade. Price is fair for the location. Servers are super nice! They are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Definitely recommended for small and big groups.

What would a vacation in Cape May be without breakfast at Mermaids! I actually went twice!! I had a western omelette my first visit and Eggs Benedict on the second. Honestly I would recommend either! Between the view and the like home meal it's just a good start to the day!! The staff was great even accommodating a large party like us!

Outdoor covered seating

Great, casual place to grab lunch on a beach day or rainy day. Brian was our server, he was polite and seated us right away. Seated promptly, friendly service and fresh food. My lettuce was fresh and crisp, chicken was crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Glad we made time this trip to give it a try.

Jelly was amazing, best customer service. Definitely recommend this place. We had a good experience.

Eggplant Parm & pasta

So the service was quick and attentive, not at all like other reviews. Nice outdoor deck space, host was courteous in asking if we wanted to be in the sun or not. Good unfortunately was just passable. We had fish & chips, good. Eggplant parm with pasta, was ok, very cheesy. We also had crab cake sandwich which was very good and the chicken Caesar wrap which was too salty & not very good. This place is hit or miss. We had more misses than hits. Location is good though.

Loved this place so much I went twice last summer! Affordable, lots of options, friendly service and great views of the dunes. Fried clams were wonderful and the bathrooms very clean!!

While there are…read moreseveral places in Cape May to get a Lobster Roll, we chose Cape May Fish Market because it had lots of seating indoors & out. It was quite chilly while we visited Cape May so we really wanted to sit inside. First, the positive: The place is clean and the staff is nice. The Lobster Roll is delicious and the Shrimp Cesar Salad tasted good, but this is also where it goes bad. It is a huge salad and only had 3 shrimp. The cost of the salad is the same as the Lobster Roll. There is no way a salad should cost 26.99 and only have 3 shrimp. A pound of shrimp market value is approximately $25.99 depending on size & location. When it was expressed to our server, she quoted market price increases and that we could order more shrimp at an upcharge. If market price for shrimp is that bad, take it off the menu or offer alternatives like adding chicken that won't result in an upcharge or advise your customers upon ordering that they'd only get 3 shrimp. Hubs probably would have ordered something else. It's Cape May Fish Market so they should be upfront about their seafood. I didn't really care for the fact that we asked about it and were brushed off. While we'll definitely return to Cape May, we may not return here. .

I also ordered a bottle of their house wine, and it was excellent. It was served nicely chilled with just the right amount of sweetness, making it the perfect pairing for my meal. The flavors complemented the gnocchi beautifully and made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. The sauce was fresh, light, and earthy, and I loved the addition of the pine nuts, which added a subtle crunch. I'm usually not a fan of mixing different textures in a dish, but everything came together so well that it completely changed my mind. The shrimp were cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. My daughter ordered the seafood pasta, and she loved it as well. The seafood was fresh, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the flavors blended together wonderfully. We both left our plates nearly empty because everything was just that good. We were seated outside, and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. The weather was beautiful, there was a nice breeze, and it made for such a relaxing dining experience. To top it all off, the woman who took our order was absolutely wonderful. She was funny, energetic, and incredibly kind, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Between the amazing food, delicious wine, beautiful outdoor seating, and exceptional service, this was easily one of my favorite dining experiences. I would happily return again and again.

It was OK but we were right by the door to the patio, which was frequently opened and closed. Our server, Laura was fantastic. She did a great job all night for us. The seafood risotto was great as usual, as was the pescatore special and the scallop risotto appetizer (had for an entrée). The scallops Sambuca special was OK but the sauce was too sweet for me. No dessert tonight.

Prices, a bit regrettably, are scaled for Cape May in tourist season. While we enjoyed our lunch, dropping over $50 for our lunches plus two soft drinks was a bit more than anticipated. Still, Fins deserves more business than it appears to get. Hopefully in season it attracts it.

My fellow reviewers mentioning the tasteless cabbage and brown rice sides are depressingly accurate. Even the scallops didn't taste like much. I was truly shocked they had the audacity to charge $36 for their plates. Additionally, we were packed in there like sardines, basically touching elbows with the customers next to us. Not sure why anyone would enjoy this sort of cramped and loud atmosphere. I have nothing bad to say about the service, but if I'm paying such a premium for a meal that I could've prepared much better (even as a complete amateur), that's not going to move the needle into "could've been better" territory. It was just insultingly bad for the price. They are clearly just coasting off of their reputation as a local staple. We had a drink at the corner bar nearby beforehand and I caught a glimpse at some of their food. Wish we had just stayed and had our meal there. Just because you label yourself "farm to table" doesn't mean you can get away with your food tasting like fodder.

Service can be hit or miss depending on when you visit and who's working, but that's often the case at busy shore destinations. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a popular shore restaurant. And yes, if you know about the bathroom situation, you know--it really deserves a permanent fix rather than another temporary patch. The menu offers something for everyone. The pizzas are consistently good, the bar food delivers exactly what you'd expect, and there are several signature dishes that are always reliable and full of flavor. When the restaurant gets crowded, you'll definitely notice it in both the service and the overall vibe, but that's just part of the shore experience. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try.
