We've eaten here many times and this place is headed in the wrong direction. Overrun by pets. The last two times we were there we felt uncomfortable due to aggressive dogs barking and growling between tables. Smells like garbage if the wind is blowing east. Poor customer service. My father and I were driving back from our summer home to Denver. We never can judge how long it will take. We got to Denver four hours before our flight so decided to go see the Red Rocks Park. Before we headed there we stopped to get a bite of lunch. As we drove up and down Bear Creek we weren't going to be picky. First parking spot got our business. Blue Cow had parking and in we went. Seat yourself. We sat at a two person table next to the counter. We waited about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Once they did they were friendly. Dad ordered the cheese steak sandwich and I ordered their special burger of the day. Blue cheese. Food was a bit slow to show up but usually that means it is made with care. Mine was ok. Nothing too special. My dad did not like his. He usually eats every last bite but after half he said it didn't taste right. He waved down the wait staff and asked if he could have a cup of coffee and he was just going to eat his side. Well the bill came before the coffee ever showed up. We actually paid the bill when the wait staff said oh wait didn't you want some coffee? Well, yes he did with his meal. Overall bla food and not the best service. It was a Saturday and very packed. It is also a tourist area so I never have too high of standards. If back in the area we will look harder for parking somewhere else. read more

The Blue Cow does one thing well... Ice Cream. Their food otherwise is not much better than a Denny's or a Perkins. They do have a nice patio that backs to the River/Creek running through Morrison. They also have an ice cream window in the front which won't require you to eat inside. read more

I am giving this place 2 stars even though the only thing I tried was their water. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on our way to a concert at Red Rocks. There were 2 other small groups but the rest was empty. We sat down and ordered with high hopes. After about 10 min of waiting for our food 2 other people came in and sat at the bar and ordered. While we continued to wait the people at the bar received their food and began to eat. The food looked good (hence 2 stars). 30min after ordering our food we could not wait any longer. I walked up to the bar and asked when our food would be ready as we would have to leave. The woman checked with the kitchen and told us it would be at least another 5 min. I told here I couldn't wait any longer, she was not rude but offered no apology for the food taking so long. I got the sense that this is normal as she didn't seem to alarmed. We will not be going back. In addition to our bad service the table behind us didn't receive their full order, it was the kids food that didn't show up. As a result the kids were hungry and started to get louder and louder and more unhappy. Again I don't think I heard the waitress apologize she just said "oh im not sure how we forgot that" Others may have a better experience and the food may be amazing, but we will never know. I saw people lined up outside for ice cream and was inspired to order a root beer float. It was delicious and a perfect treat for a hot day. Stopped in for breakfast this morning and this place was packed! I figured it must be good. No disappointment here. I recommend the biscuits and gravy. I also sampled fried eggs over medium with bacon, crispy. My wife's breakfast was great and she mentioned the fruit bowl was one of the best. Retro diner food decor puts you at ease. Have always had great service whether stopping with a group or just a 2 top. What's great about this place is that doesn't claim to be anything more than what it is: a genuine, friendly and locally owned restaurant that offers good food at reasonable prices. What more could you ask for these days? Across the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus there are some nice standouts that include the chicken tortilla soup, the salads, and anything with a southwest theme. The salads sparkle with dark leafy greens and unusual vegetables. I'm additcted to the tortilla soup. All of their soups are home made. They're open for dinner in the summer. a word of warning: it gets really busy for weekend breakfast, so be prepared to wait a bit, but you'll be rewarded with something that wasn't created in a test kitchen two time zones away, and, chances are, the owner will be standing behind the counter. Let me just say it's a cute place. Stumbled on it going to red rocks. They asked if we would like to be seated outside.. which meant a completely covered patio . My guest and I thought .. outside?? I ordered a hamburger medium well, it came out well and tough! I don't know what cheese they used but it was gross!! The French fries were the only good thing on the plate . Chorizo scramble, French toast and crispy bacon. Great hole in the wall for breakfast. The Chorizo Scramble was a special for the day. Parking is either in the small lot or on the street. Do be surprised if you have to wait to eat as it is a pretty popular spot. There is seating in the "back" however during the winter months it can be quite chilly even with the propane heater that is running. We sat just inside the door and were still a little cold. Overall the food was great and we will look at coming back again in the future to try more of the breakfast menu. read more

Delicious food, fast service, and incredible service. I got their soup of the day which was a steak stew as well as their club sandwich. They were both fresh and scrumptious. Our waitress, Bailey did a wonderful job serving us. We ate in the heated back patio which had the perfect amount of ambiance and temperature due to the mini fire in the center of the room. Since they only have a certain number of tables, it seems that there is always a wait. (32 minutes at 1:10 on a Monday!) Parking is also an issue. That said, be assured that the wait is worth it. Since I like the 'not so ordinary' cuisine', I had the gyro burger. It's probably just me, but I would have preferred a more moist sandwich. Maybe more tzatziki sauce and less feta would do it, however, it sure was tasty! The chocolate chip cookie sundae was to die for. It took two of us to subdue it! We have been frequent visitors of this restaurant and loved it every time until the last few times. I don't know if it's new management but the food is overpriced poorly prepared these days. My favorite is the fried fish which has always been the best around. This last time the fish batter was undercooked and was difficult to eat because the batter kept falling off. The fries were soggy and underdone. I showed the waitress the gooey mess and she responded curtly that she would get the manager. The manager did agree to remake the fish and was slightly less rude than the waitress. I wouldn't call it rude but mostly disinterested which has been my experience the last two times I have been there. The stroganoff was all mushrooms with the little meat. So basically i wasted 60 dollars on a terrible greasy meal and ended up feeling sick afterwards. So my advice spend your money elsewhere. Morrison is a quirky little town next to one of the most beautiful venues of all time. The Blue Cow is the quirky little diner in the middle of this quirky town. It looks like a gentrified diner. Eclectic and cozy. They serve beer, wine, and espresso. I had a latte, however the coffee was a bit burnt. I sat underneath a painting of Morrison. I actually couldn't stop looking at it. The had a George Rodrigue (The Blue Dog series) look to it. Everything had thick blue lines; fitting for the town on that cold day. Oh, I also want to mention the bathroom. Nothing special, however when I entered I was overtaken by the subtle scent of dried roses. There was a pole along one wall that was covered in bouquets of dried roses. Been living in the Denver area now for almost a year. With VERY few exceptions, this is one place we love going to that's more than 10 miles from our home every chance we get. There is a primary draw for us to go here as often as we do... we spend "mountain time" with our dogs at least 3 times a month. This usually means we're are traveling through the hills going to and coming from some pet friendly destinations. The Cow (an eatery) and it's covered back patio is also very pet friendly. Love the breakfast burrito (get it with no lettuce). The Huevos Rancheros is far above par. Chix Fried Steak, corned beef hash (made from sliced CB) and thick and sinful French Toast are our other breaky favorites. For lunch The Holy Cow burger, regular and lettuce wrapped, is very satisfying. The Cow Wings Buffalo-style and Bacon, Green Chile, Tomato Jack a Grilled Cheese is very good too. The Mahi Mahi Salad was full of unexpected components like chopped zucchini and jicama. Only had one disappointment in our experience on the food side; the Sirracha Chicken Tacos were just not good. The chix tasted reheated and the Sirracha component would have been better mixed in a creamy mayo or sour cream rather than overly squirted "raw and uncut" from the bottle with the aligned lime creme fresh. One surprise we discovered early on... they have an amazing house made Bloody Mary mix. We have had the regular leaded and unleaded versions at almost visit. Mmmmmm! Service here is pretty good as far as the amount of tables they support. Be forewarned though, when the place is packed - and it will get packed - the kitchen can get behind pretty quick - but they are experienced with their tiny kitchen to recoup just as quickly. I think the longest we ever waited for a table order was 25 minutes. Conversely the average is about 10-12 mins as most everything is made to order. On site parking during those busy times can be a bit nightmarish. Save yourself the headache and park off-lot a block or two away. It's a nice walk, especially if you get to walk back to you car along the creek. It's not a divey place like others on the surrounding block and across the street (which we frequent as well). In this case, The Cow ( an eatery ) is more of the kind of place for all families, 24 hour couples, other Mom and Pops.... and their dogs so long as y'all sit outside. read more

We loved this place when it was the Blue Cow & were worried when it got new owners that we wouldn't like it anymore. We worried for nothing. The food is delicious & the staff is consistently friendly & efficient. The breakfast burrito is superlative! My husband loves the variations of Benedict's. This time he ordered the steak Benedict & loved it. I ordered the chicken fried steak. I consider myself an expert on them. Unfortunately, they do a reasonable job on the meat but the gravy was really not good. Actually bad. The eggs, shreds & pancake did not disappoint though. The ambiance here is totally inviting. (I always want to hang out after a meal, but do not want people to have to wait longer.) The front room is reminiscent of a small town diner- quaint & cozy. The back patio has been enclosed for year-round use. There are heaters & it is comfortable on almost any day. The former owners were older hippies & the place was full of plants. I miss that aspect but there is so much improvement in every other area of the business that a new visitor wouldn't miss a thing. The following comment is for people who cannot control their children and/or pets. The restaurant had to put up a sign telling people to keep off the flowers in the front of the building. Shouldn't this be common sense?! In the summer this is THE place for a creamy, cold treat. There is a walk-up window & I imagine people are so anxious for their ice cream that they let their kids run amuck. The new owners have done a ton to improve on what was already great place to eat. We will continue as loyal patrons. I will just avoid the chicken fried steak. read more

This is a great "diner" type restaurant with surprising menu items. The baked goods are made from scratch and smell drool worthy. I always bring my out of town friends and family here when they visit. I feel that this is a Morrison staple and such a cool place. The seriously have the best pancakes. They make some amazing coffee drinks too. I have been for lunch as well to be honest not as impressed with lunch as I am with breakfast as it is truly the best. They have a great fruit bowl for my kiddos as well. It always has all their favorite fruit in it. My mom always ask to come here when she is in town. It definitely has become a tradition for us. Mediocre and slow. The restaurant is cute in a divey sort of way, they have a nice patio near the trail, and they have a parking lot. But that's the best I can say about the restaurant. The food was slow coming out of the kitchen, the fries were undercooked and barely golden. The French Dip meat was dried out and old. Seriously, how do you mess up a French Dip sandwich? Bad bread and bad meat will do it. I was told by my kids that they have a good shake. So maybe I'll order an ice cream shake for dinner next time because their food wasn't worth the wait, money, and calories. read more
