Though I miss the Village Inn, I'm pumped to have a new, casual, cajun place so close-by! They've got a great menu, comparable to Crawling Crab or Yabby Hut. It wasn't super busy when I went, probably because it's fairly new and in a tough location. However, I loved my experience! The seafood came out piping hot in a large serving dish (they may have switched this up from the bag method I saw in some other reviews). The seafood was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I'm not usually a fan of cajun corn, but this one hit different, the cajun seasoning was bomb. We also tried the "Crab House Basket", a fried seafood sampler, and it was delicious. Not oily, crispy, and paired great with the sauces. It's a bit pricey, but didn't seem out of range with other cajun restaurants I've been to. The service was great, the staff is clearly working hard and care about the customers. I hope more people take notice and check them out, they're worth a shot! Employees were super friendly when i entered. We ordered the party 1 boil combo. It comes with 1 pound snowcrab. 1 pound Dungeness crab, 1 pound shrimp, 1 pound clams, 6 potatoes, and 6 corns. For $99 plus tax. For the price it was a lot of food. I'm so surprised there wasn't a full restaurant. It was so delicious and filling. Said it was for 4 people, but we ate it as 2 and finished it all with the exception of a few potatoes. The flavor was amazing . Just the right amount of garlic and Cajun seasoning. This is a new spot, it's in the old Village Inn off I-70 on Kipling. The ambiance is nice and it's great seafood in a casual environment. Come as you are either in shorts, flip flops and a tank or dress to the nines in a fancy dress. They have a variety of flavors to put in your boil bag and the have lots of good sides to go a long with your order. The prices are reasonable for seafood We paid $82 (without tip) for 3 of us and that included 2 beers and an appetizer. A 1 pound combo was enough food for an adult man. The service is lacking a bit though. For example we ordered the clam chowder (the only item we don't recommend) and never got a spoon. Then I asked for silverware and they brought 1 knife & 1 spoon for 3 people. We only saw our server to order drinks & food, all other times we were helped by the host and when I paid the check, the person who ran my payment asked for the slip right after I totaled the check and signed it, which wasn't bad, just felt a little awkward versus being able to just leave it on the table, it was 6:30pm when we left so it wasn't like they were closing and the person had recently started her shift so she wasn't trying to leave. First (and last) time eating here. Took my husband for his birthday and it was not good. His clam chowder came out and you could see that it was split / separated/ curdled whatever you want to call it and had an odd smell to it. He took 2 bites and slid it to the side of the table. Our waitress asked if something was wrong and when he told her he did not care for it, she took it back and did not charge us for it. I ordered shrimp cocktail and I can't even describe what was wrong with it. The shrimp had a "mealy" texture, I guess? They seemed somehow overcooked and underdone at the same time. My son took 2 bites of one and put the rest down. I ate one and a half and spit the other half in a napkin. Did not touch the rest of them. (They do not have a kid's menu, so you basically have to get a $12.99 plate of fried shrimp or chicken tenders for kids.) The chicken seemed like it was frozen and old. It had a weird texture and was very chewy. (I saw another review that referred to it as mystery meat which is dead-on) The fries were good and my husband did enjoy his lobster roll. It was 5:30 on a Friday evening and there were only 2 other tables. It was not busy nor was it closing time, so I am not sure why the food was so bad. We got the special that they were running which was a cluster of each snow and Dungeness crab, lb clams, lb shrimp, lb mussels , 4 corn, and 4 potatoes with butter garlic sauce. We ordered sausage because it didn't come with it but the sausage was below average and was disappointing. It's in the old Village Inn restaurant and by the looks of it you would still think that your in the old Village Inn restaurant because they literally didn't change anything. But that's irrelevant I guess. The service was below average. When we went the restaurant was empty and the waitress never came to us to see how we were doing until we were about done or we would have ordered more wine/beer. At the end of the day would I go back? No. Because the location is sketch and I could just go to Hook and Reel or Joe's Crab Shack for the same thing with better service and ambiance. read more

I thought crab house was great! I've been to similar restaurants in West Denver and I prefer this one. I like that it is unpretentious and comfortable. The server we had was the best server I've had in a long time! I like that you can order by the half pound and they put everything into the same bucket. Way better than having individual bags of everything you order. We were able to combine all of the seasonings and it was delightful. They also included corn, potatoes and sausage. I loved their snow crab and shrimp. Their crab cakes were also good. They may be more expensive than their competitors and I would recommend that they serve bread to sop up some of the yummy sauce. read more

We love love this place! We drive over 40 minutes just to have this culinary event... Our server is always amazing - the food is fresh, flavorful (you pick how you want it) and a totally fun way to eat!!! Seafood isn't EVER cheap BUT you get to pick it what you eat! Disclaimer: The food was great (if a bit pricey), but the wait was pretty long. I believe this to be a staffing issue due to current events and that it shouldn't reflect poorly on Crab House. I placed an order online and was told my food would be ready by 6:15. My husband and I got to the restaurant at roughly 6:20 to find out that the order hadn't been confirmed by the restaurant yet. Our order was finally put in at 6:28, and we waited another half an hour for our food to be prepared and bagged. During our wait, a party of six walked out after waiting too long to be seated, and a very frustrated Grub Hub driver berated the staff. I tried to be patient because I understand Crab House just opened and likely doesn't have enough staff. The owner(?) was very apologetic when he gave us our bag, and encouraged us to dine in next time and bring some friends. The food itself absolutely warrants a future visit. We ordered calamari, crab cakes, and the Crab House basket with Cajun fries. Everything looked great and tasted even better. We were glad we waited and impressed with the flavor overall. We were excited to try this place but it was disappointing unfortunately. The food was decent actually but overpriced for sure. Had a pound of shrimp and crab. Comes to your table in a plastic bag, which was fine I guess, I just didn't expect that. It says it comes with 1 corn, 2 potatoes and 1 sausage. Which means one 2 inch piece of corn and one BITE of sausage. Not one sausage. The crab boil was very messy to eat and we had to ask for a crab cracker to get it open. That should be an obvious utensil in such a place I would think. My wife had the cole slaw, which was decent and the clam chowder which was kinda meh. Half a bowl maybe? It was very little chowder for something like $8. After nearly $45, We left the Crab House and went to a steakhouse up the road for an appetizer and salad for "second dinner" because we were still hungry. Where I was seated, I had to stare at a "broken" TV (the color was strobing) the whole time. The Tv may have been a touch crooked as well. Not 100% on that. And the phone kept ringing and no one was answering it which was really annoying! The service wasn't bad, just a little un-enthusiastic. Three different people helped us, they were nice, but the vibe was a little funky in there. The restaurant or waitstaff or something reeked of stale cigarette smoke which was a bit unappetizing. But my biggest gripe was with the bathroom. I know it's expensive to open a restaurant and all that. But the bathroom is obviously original to the building and is in awful shape! They should have been remodeled. And I'm pretty sure it was relatively clean-ish, but it was honestly hard to tell if it was clean, dirty or just old. The soap dispenser was empty and the big bag of soap was sitting on the counter as well. I would probably go back if their Yelp rating goes up to 4+ stars. Or maybe in a year or something as they are a new spot, but all these little details added up to a less-than-stellar experience for me. We showed up a hour and a half before close and you could tell they didn't want customers but once we started the conversation with " is the dine in area opened?" They said yes and seated us. We ordered the combo pot ( sorry, I don't remember the exact name). We picked king crab, clams, and shrimp and it also came with 2 potatoes and 1 corn. I asked for a second corn for my friend. We also ordered the hush puppies. When our order came all but 5 clams where not fully cooked and some where still cold. We sent back the clams to finished cooking. The corn was tiny. To give you perspective think KFC corn cut in half. They also forgot our second corn and when it was brought out it was still cold. They forgot our hush puppies and we had to ask twice before they came. The whole time our server and the manager just sat and talked while slowly working on they closing tasks. Remember at this point they don't close for over a hour. Never once did we get offered refills. Our bill came to just under $80. If your craving Cajun I would recommend looking elsewhere. I have been going to this spot since they opened. Cheesy nautical theme in the building, but cozy. It is usually hit or miss, but if you know the few things that are safe it was OK. I wanted to see a new restaurant in Wheat Ridge succeed. I turned several friends and family onto the place and we would frequently get a few lbs of shrimp and crawfish in the restaurant or at the office. I have ordered and dined inside this establishment 50+ times easily and have only had minor service issues or attitudes. Until... I wanted a refund on 1lb of shrimp because it was severely over cooked. Only the potato and sausage were bearable to try. They weren't happy, but I was refunded for the 1lb of shrimp and I was still a loyal patron. Fast forward a few weeks later to today. I call in to order and am notified that I am no longer allowed to eat at their establishment. Not that my order couldn't be fulfilled, but was told to go eat somewhere else and waste their money... I hate wasting food and even more to have a business have to eat the cost, but one has to own up to the mistakes and do just that. Especially when someone is being as respectful as possible and not complaining about the wasted $16 in tips for some sweet potato fries and steamed white rice.. I will be surprised if they make it much longer as their decisions and attitude do not reflect those of a thriving business. I wish them the best of luck in this struggling economy. I was up in the air about whether to give this place a 4 or a 5 because while the food is good enough to go back for (especially the hushpuppies!), the value is poor. We ordered a lobster roll ($20), a small cup of lobster bisque ($11!), cajun shrimp ($20), and a side of hush puppies ($5). Portions were rather small, especially for the price, and it did take all of those items to fill the two of us up, at a cost of almost $35 per person when you factor in tax. I decided to give them a 5 because the food really is quite good and the pricing is likely to be a temporary situation given that they just opened. I know they're grappling with some nationwide food shortages right now, so what I'd suggest to the restaurant if they can't adjust the pricing is to keep it but bundle additional cheap sides, like salad, fries, bread, or mac and cheese, with the items. This will improve the value without costing the restaurant significantly more. We plan to order again, but would do so more often if it were cheaper. read more

We visited during their first few days being open. Despite the outside of the building not looking too pretty, the inside is clean and fresh (another review mentioned the restrooms were not in the best shape which I agree they need some attention). We had the hush puppies and calamari for appetizers and both were delicious. I had the lobster roll...bread was so good as was the entire sandwich. Coleslaw was creamy and yummy. My dinner mates got the 1 lb each of shrimp, mussels and clams. They loved it. I tried the shrimp and it could've been cooked more for my taste (I like more firm), but it was good. We finished everything and plan to go back. Staff was also very nice and our waitress really wanted our feedback when we were done, showing they cared about making improvements to anything. For three people our total before tip was $96...we felt this was a fair deal for all the seafood we had. read more

First time... crab roll and shrimp roll, Tested like it came from Costco. The Asian lady was very pleasant, but the food was not Cajun as advertised. Music was terrible and too loud. It needs some help. Would have preferred if it was done Asian style like the owners are. It was out of sync. The meat was just placed on top of the roll and made a mess trying to eat it. Very friendly staff and bright open atmosphere with a fun Huge Snow crab welcoming you upon entering the seating area. Let me preface this review by stating I lived on the East Coast for many years and know what truly fresh seafood should be. That said, and Denver being land-locked, the food was on par for Denver's very limited access to fresh seafood. The calamari, shrimp, hushpuppies and catfish were Really good. But the oil the crab-cakes were fried in was not hot enough, thus causing the cakes to absorb the oil, rather than to come out crispy. The fried oysters were cooked far too long and were simply rock-hard. Oysters should be soaked for a few hours in a mixture of eggs, milk and black pepper, then dipped in cracker crumbs or bread crumbs, then deep-fried quickly, drained and lightly salted so they remain moist on the inside. All in all this restaurant was good but needs a few simple adjustments. Again, the staff made our visit Very welcoming and we will definitely be back! Good Job! read more

It's an old village inn there are still some strong iconic resemblance of it. My family and I have never been in any establishments of The Crab House, we told the server this was our first time here and the server basically shrugged and said "okay welcome in". The server never told us we were to be eating on the table nor out of bags, and when we asked for plates the server brought us paper plates. To top it off we asked for a knife and the server came back and told us they only had one in the WHOLE restaurant. This caught us off guard and was non too pleasing. We were not very pleased with the price of the food or the whole experience. The restaurant itself could be turned back into an Village Inn in no time. Very little decorations to make it feel like it was a seafood restaurant. The menu it self was confusing to read and the servers themselves couldn't really tell us how to order. The food was very small portions for the price we paid. The server had told us that even if we were to remove the chicken sausage we would still pay. read more

When my husband suggested trying out the Crab House, I was hesitant after reading the reviews. After some consideration, I decided to give it a go. We will definitely be back. Our server was friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The food, while pricey, was flavorful. I grew up in an Alaskan fishing village, so I tend to be a seafood snob. The Dungeness was definitely better than the snow crab, and nothing was "fresh" but seriously... We're in Colorado! Was expensive - we went later on Sunday afternoon. Not many people. Ordered - had to ask for straws and more napkins when she come by - cleaning tables - she didn't stop - five all left. Earlier I asked for a takeout box - I happened look up at mirror and saw waitress walking out with purse - of course we never saw her again. No ticket - finally went to in desk to pay - only person in the whole empty restaurant when left about three. I love the Crab House! I ordered a pound of Dungeoness Crab cajun style, and it came out fresh, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. It also came with corn, sausage, and potatoes, like a proper crab boil. My waitress, Kelly, was very friendly, knew the menu, and was really helpful when I ordered. Went here tonight for dinner with my boyfriend and we were very impressed. We're both from the low country and have grown up eating crab boils, so we were a little skeptical to eat one we hadn't cooked ourselves-but we were pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a no frills restaurant but our food and service was great! Only thing that would've made it better was if we could've had a beer with our meal, since they just opened they're still working on getting their liquor license. Definitely go with the 2lb boil if you plan on sharing with someone, and get the crab cakes as an appetizer, they were yummy! We will be back for sure! read more

The food all tastes good but its a little unconventional. They are still in the process of opening and may alter things as time goes by but this was our experience today 6/25/21. When you first get there they bring over a giant white sheet of paper to cover your table. We ordered the Dungones crab $28, the headless shrimp $19 a bowl of Clam Chowder $7 the Cajun fries $4 and Hush puppies $4. You get to choose your seasoning heat and flavor to be added to your bag, yes I said bag. Your meal is served double bagged with seasoning, corn, sausage and potatoes. I don't know if this is how it's done other places but this was new to us. They give you a bucket for scraps and since your shrimp still have legs and shell them it's a good idea. Having to take your food out of bags is pretty messy so the fact that they give you plastic gloves and a bib makes sense. I'm pretty uncertain on how to grade this since I know they are still working out the bugs. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and giving them 4 stars. The bags are kind of off setting but since the food was good... a little pricy to peal your own shrimp and eat off paper plates.
