Honestly, we came here because the San Pedro Fish Market was booked and we were craving seafood and cocktails so we decided to give this a try. My wife checked yelp reviews to check on what was gluten free (she's a celiac) and saw that they only had a 3 star review. The person who answered the phone didn't know anything about what might be gf but that's our typical experience of most restaurants we call. The person who answered the phone (a male) took the time to ask a nearby server what was gf so it felt encouraging enough for us to go. Most places literally have just said we can either just have salad or say they have nothing for us to eat there. When we got there, the very sweet lady host told us it was a 45 minute and was super patient answering our general questions about the menu and options. They had a sign that acknowledged they were short staffed which was why I was even more super appreciative of how genuinely patient and friendly she was. We were seated 25 minutes later and the service just kept getting better. Our server was Sally and she was very knowledgable about what my wife could have on the menu. Things like the seasoning they use is gf, the fryer is not gf because of cross contamination and things like that. All of our drinks and food we ordered was incredible! Both my father-in-law and wife got Mai Tai's (served in a half carafe) and I got a Pina Colada (served in a big beer mug topped with a generous heap of whipped cream) - a nice size-able portion for drinks at $10. For food, I ordered popcorn shrimp and clam chowder, my wife got the grilled salmon with rice and potatoes and father-in-law got fish and chips. The salmon was crispy on the outside and tenderly cooked on the inside, not overcooked and dry at all. Everything else was lightly battered, perfectly seasoned and hot out of the kitchen.. We could have easily ended up with a plate of high priced, mediocre, room temp, under-seasoned food with an apathetic staff that is typical of a lot of tourist trap locations situated on the marina but this was not the case at all. Given that they were busy and understaffed, the service was through-and-through top notch and the food is evidently prepared by a chef who knows and cares about what they're putting out. Give this place a try. We're definitely going back again. read more

Hello, I am writing to express my extreme displeasure with the management staff of the Long Beach location. I had been frequenting this restaurant for a number of months now. I would come after work, sit at the outside bar and have 1-2 glasses of champagne, a cup of clam chowder or some French fries. I paid cash and tip 15-20%. I mind my own business and am familiar with many of the patrons here, as well as the wait staff. I had the unpleasant opportunity to come a bit later than normal a few weeks ago, and my station was taken over from Jeff by the bartender Laura. She was rude, dismissive, and essentially ignored me. When I attempted to engage her, she apologized to her male clients at the bar, and eventually made her way over to me. I was insulted and did not appreciate her preferential treatment of the men over myself. I mentioned this to Jeff on my next visit and made note not to come to the CP after 4 pm. A few days later, after paying... I was approached in the Parking Lot by one of the managers "LEO" and verbally threatened by him for DARING to say anything negative about Laura's service to another server. He assumed that I had somehow slandered her or threatened her and wanted to make sure I understood that this was NOT to happen again. EXCUSE ME????? I could barely understand his English, but I understood enough to be incredibly insulted and the last time I checked, my money was as good as anyone elses. NEVER in my life have I been treated in this manner, and I did not appreciate being FOLLOWED to my car AFTER I had paid, or being accosted for stating that I did not like someone's service. This is a SERVICE oriented industry, where tips count towards a good portion of a servers income and being in the service industry myself, this whole incident just shocked and appalled me. I will NOT be returning to the Carb Pot, and I intend on letting people know exactly what happened to me. This is reverse discrimination at its finest and I hope steps will be taken to inform Leo of exactly what a patron's rights are, especially those of free speech, before he is allowed to treat another respected and well paying client that way. read more

This place is a rip off! We got the Westport, below is the picture of the menu. We understood that at $50+ a person we'd EACH receive a cluster of Snow and Dungeness crab legs. Instead we received one of each total. At $50 a person that's $100+ pot with just 2 clusters of crab legs! That is a rip off! I've never paid so much for sub par crab legs, especially when the resource is right there. We live in New Mexico, no Ocean around and don't pay that much for crab legs. We told the waitress, I think we are missing 2 clusters of crab legs. She came back and said they do it by weight. Still doesn't make sense for the price! Also, the Mussels were awful, crab legs were dry, and the clams tiny! However they gave us plenty of corn and potatoes!!!! Never paid so much for a potatoes and corn pot!!! A fellow yelper took me here for dinner and I was in love! How did I not know this place existed? The food was off the chain, dumped in a big ol' pile in front of you so you get to get suited up with a bib and buttery and crabby with the marina as your backdrop. My pal introduced us to Amber, her favorite server and we were not disappointed! This chick hustles, anticipated our needs (my pal likes xxxxtra butter and lemons and I am a soda junkie) and she was always dropping off refills and fixins and was super friendly. The place has an old fish house feel, sitting by the waterfront with outdoor patio/tables, a bar and fire pit, so we hung out for a drink after dinner. Wish they were open a little later to hang out by the water for a longer nightcap. But, I guess it's smart to leave 'em wanting more! I can't wait to go back. read more

This rating is really about their service, which in fact was excellent. We went for their "bar" service which entails a separate service type. Rather than your "sit and dine" its open seating both indoors and outdoors in the blue tables. If the feast style is what you crave then just enter the restaurant like you normally would any other place. The food was actually up to my expectations which were low to begin with. The clam chowder was slightly salty, the fish and chips were juicy and tender, the calamari firm and tasty, chicken wings tough and slightly inedible, and the mozzarella sticks were cheesy as ever. All in all I'd come here again to do their feats which is what their known for. As for the bar, I won't be returning to that style here. read more

This was a very good place to watch the sunset and have some good crab and shrimp. The outside area had plenty of heaters so you can sit outside and watch all of the boats and the sun sink into the sea. The view across the marina, a beautiful sunset and the best of company is the key to a wonderful time here. The big surprise, to see buckets of food dumped on the table for us to sort through and serve on our plates. Yes, they did give us plates. I'm not sure what other items are offered here, but I was very satisfied with the buckets of crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatoes and corn on the cob dumped before me, and the great choice of wine Jenn supplied. This might just be my FAVORITE seafood restaurant ever! The decor is a little dated on the inside with strange figurines, but it does give a fisherman feel. The outdoors are romantic and inviting...you can enjoy the sunset over the pier with a candle-lit dinner. I love that there are bibs so you can really dig into your meal. Excellent place for a first date...the shared struggle to break into those delicious, juicy crab legs is a really fun way to break the ice. The seasoning on the corn and sausages is just enough to really add but not overpower the flavor of the food. I definitely encourage anyone to come check this place out! read more

Simply the finest fresh seafood I have ever had! Juicy crabs, sweet amazing oysters you eat like candy! Clams soft as silk, and when they put the bibs on you, give you the hammers and claw openers, the. Spread all the potatoes, corn, king red crab and bring the oysters just opened and caught that very morning.....oh lord have mercy! It's all in a pile in the center of the table! Like cape cod beach cook out! Joes is not even close to the quality and TASTE of this part of heaven! A LOCAL FAVORITE! Great prices! Fresh seafood!!! Delicious!!! I recommend the king crab pot. It comes steamed with Cajun seasoning (with butter and lemon) and corn and potatoes! So good! It's a unique environment cause they poor the food on the table and everybody goes for it! It's fun and they have a nice outdoor patio right on the water. The happy hour is also awesome and easy on the wallet. If you go for the crab I suggest adding a side of sausage. The clam chowder is also very tasty. I have no complaints about this place. I wish there were more one-of-a-kind places like this one. read more

My friends and i went to the crab pot for dinner yesterday and the view was stunning. However the food there was mediocre and pricey. Lets just say you are paying for the view rather than the food. They have a really dumb rule where you have to get two of the same special and not one and the other. I know it is not that descriptive, but you will see when you get there. I recently visited this restaurant and ordered a crab boil. Unfortunately, the seafood didn't taste fresh, and the overall quality was disappointing. That said, the service was solid--our server was attentive and friendly. I also appreciate that the manager stepped in and adjusted the bill, which showed good customer service. I'm hoping this was just an off day, and my next visit will be better. As a first-time experience, though, the food quality left a lot to be desired. read more

We visited this place around 12:30 PM on Saturday and noticed it was almost empty. After finishing our lunch, we understood why. The portion sizes were quite small--everything from the seafood to the potatoes and sausage was noticeably smaller than expected. Even after ordering extra crab, it still didn't feel like enough. I went with my kids and we had a great time. They love king crab and I felt like indulging so we ordered 3lbs of king crab from the seafood market section which was only crab, corn and potatoes. Worked out perfectly. We ate all the crab and most of the corn. My daughter ate most of it. A ten year old with a vicious appetite for king crab. Good times. We love this place. Yes I am a fan of this place, I like to eat off the table. The first time I ate here it blew me away, the server comes with a bucket of food, and they put butcher's paper on the table and just dumps the food on the table and says dig in. No plates, just forks, napkins, shell crackers and the bucket to put the shells in. You get a lot of food for reasonable prices, just that some times when you get the feast, it can be bland and over cooked. read more

The location is great but the place is filthy and the crowd is a nasty group of smokers. Last I checked it was illegal to smoke in the workplace in the state of California. The Budlight is only $3 dollars and they have $3 dollar plates which very by day ! My favorite is the oyster shooter which are only $.95c each .. Went for Mothers day. Called first and tryed to book reservations . Didn't take reservations, said to come in. We went and waited 2 hours for a table. Waiter forgot our salads and soup. Brought it after dinner. Food was good, but just not organized. Went again and it was great! Must have been the Mothersday rush! read more
